Armenak
Lebanese ARMY under heavy, heavy fire in Tripoli where HezbAllah doesn't even exist!!!!!! 7 soldiers killed, dozens injured!!!! 5-story building bombed, 10 civilians in it killed, 4 of them children!!! That's awful. My grandmother's sister lives in an apartment building in Tripoli and the only way we can get in contact with her is through her Muslim next-door neighbors. My aunt said she tried to call but all the phonelines seem to be down...
Arpa
That's awful. My grandmother's sister lives in an apartment building in Tripoli and the only way we can get in contact with her is through her Muslim next-door neighbors. My aunt said she tried to call but all the phonelines seem to be down... Much to my relief, I just learned that a dear friend of mine who is in the region visiting friends and relatives is in fact not in Beirut but Aleppo, soon to board an airplane on her way to the safety of the US. Arpa
Only if the Lebanese would realize that they are LEBANESE, not Maronite Christian or Shiite Moslem, not a Maronite kingdom, a suburb of the Vaticaan…?? Only then the Hezbollah/ Party of Allah and those Maronite/Katayeb, the Party of Jewhovah will come together rather than invite Israel to punish one or the other. Dave
There should also be some solidarity among all Arabs, not only Lebanese and Palestinian. Arab countries aren't helping Lebanon at all. Arabs inhabiting Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Egypt aren't even organizing protests against Israel. A shame... As Hassan Nasrallah said: "Hezbullah is not fighting a battle for Hezbullah or even for Lebanon. We are now fighting a battle for the (Islamic and Arab) nation. Where does the nation stand on this battle?" Edited July 17, 2006 by Dave
Sip
you CANNOT KIDNAP a soldier. Soldiers are "captured" and it's a normal part of war. Civilians, however, can be and are kidnapped by israel. Hmmmm ... if there is no war, then you cannot just go and kidnap soldiers. Kidnapping soldiers IS an act of war in itself. And guess what ... war's never pretty. In war, people DIE ... pure and simple. But with these morons (on BOTH sides), I don't think there's really any answer but a military standstill. Both will beat each other up until again they come to a stand still after many many deaths. Freaking MORONS is all I have to say.
ED
Freaking MORONS is all I have to say. Sip those MORONS include bush and his cabinet also? the way i see it violance spowns more hate and sure garanties future suaside bombings, both sides have to make compromises, but this is not the vision of wolfowitz (bush) doctrene impose american valuies by force if nesessery, and religios fundementalits sure elected there men to end the world, they are holding there breath and waiting for the Armagedon, soon there will be syria, and all hell will break loose how stupid you got to be by beliving you can impose democracy (american style) on 150 or so million people? democracy should be home grown and not be imposed, what continuies failed forign policy of the west, and especialy the US we are experiancing the fruts of it, no one is talking or condeming 7 family members who were bombed in gaza beach, hamas declared seaze fire in january but after that tragic event and silance of the world comunity they called it off, this is the root couse of all midle east problems, untill palestinian issue is not solved there wont be any peace. remember when Sharon who was visiting washington in 2004 and on a joint news conferance bush declared palestinians have no right to return to there homes in israel, who gave the right to divide palestinian lands withouth asking palestinians how they feel about it? arrogance and ingnorance, and next page is yet to come. Eurocentric
There can never be any solidarity among Arabs or any kind of unity. The only thing that unites them is their common language imposed on them by the armies of the Caliphate. They are all very distinct peoples. Dave
They're all officially called Arabs now, as both Eastern and Western Armenians are called Armenians regardless of the differences. This is unlike the different "types" of Turks. Officially, distinctions do exist in their case, as, for example, an inhabitant of Kazakhstan is called Kazakh and not Turk. Regardless, Israel is alien to the Middle East and is at the root of most problems that exist there, including the Lebanese Civil War, etc. Edited July 17, 2006 by Dave
Accelerated
I can actually draw parallels between Israel and the Crusader Kingdom. If we follow this analogy its only a matter of time before a strong leader emerges to lead/unite the Arabs/Muslims in the region and crushes Israel through a sheer force of numbers. Sassun
There should also be some solidarity among all Arabs, not only Lebanese and Palestinian. Arab countries aren't helping Lebanon at all. As Hassan Nasrallah said: "Hezbullah is not fighting a battle for Hezbullah or even for Lebanon. We are now fighting a battle for the (Islamic and Arab) nation. Where does the nation stand on this battle?" Well actually there HAVE been huge protests in Iraq, Kuwait, Egypt, all the way to Indonesia and Bangladesh... Sip - but there IS a war. Technically Lebanon is in a state of war with Israel. People are getting pissed off at HezbAllah - for not hitting and hurting stronger. So you can imagine.. Some Maronites and Sunnis have been trying to sow sectarian divisions but mostly the people are taking it very well. The Israelis seem to be betting on sectarian/civil strife, hence their bombng of Sunni north, Druze Chouf, and soon (they already hit Dora gas and fuel tanks - I pass by Dora every day, it is in the Christian east Beirut on the main highway) Christian east Beirut and Mount Lebanon. Sip
Sip those MORONS include bush and his cabinet also? Sure ... him AND his cabinet AND Zidane and anyone else who just can't let things go sometimes. Israel at fault ... Arabs at fault ... of course it's never that simple. They are ALL at fault. Who was at fault when Iran and Iraq beat the snot out of each other (millions died) while I was growing up? And what happened in the end? Nothing ... there are still sheepites, there are still sunnies, and they are both far worse off than they started. When will these MORONS all wake up and realize none of what they have been slaughtering each other for, for millenia, is worth a damn. Allah? Whatever the Jews believe in? God? And at the same time they are all VERY quick to condemn the great satan while they could all learn something from what we have in the US.
Dave
Didn't know about those protests... Good for them. People are getting pissed off at HezbAllah - for not hitting and hurting stronger. Obviously, Hezballah exists to organize the Lebanese resistance against Israel. So they must be very well prepared. I'm sure there's more of Hezballah than we think. gamavor
Jews are fighting for their survival there and that includes taking the initiative, so to speak. I don't understand all these tears for the Arabs. When was the last time that anything good came from them? They are swiming in petrol and yet 3/4 of them live in poverty. What good Hisbullah or any other of the terrorist organizations in the Middle East has to offer to the general public. Better democracy, education, prosperity? What? Of course, none of the above but just blind religious dogmatism.
Sassun
Yet again you ignore the main point and try to divert the discussion in a different (religious) direction. What does religion have anything to do with this? Israel is targeting all the Lebanese, whether Shi'ite, Sunni, Druze, or Christian. By the way, if you have so much faith in Jews' morality, why don't you come and sit in Beirut, since you trust that they are so moral as to take all necessary precautions not to harm civilians let alone intentionally targeting them? I will pay for your ticket. But oops, there is no airport, I forgot. Guess that's because HezbAllah was using it. Guess HezbAllah fighters were also dining in that restaurant or using the sponges from the sponge factory.

Sassun
Indeed it does. The Israelis first said it was a fuel tank, then they said it was a leaflet box, then Amir Peretz issued a statement saying, I think there is a slim chance that they'd be able to target our F-16s. Sounds defensive. Also, that was clearly a rocket.

DominO123
Why not to pick Armenia as an example? Given its last election, you may have a point. But overal, Armenia is much more democratic than Azerbaijan, but I admit that comparing it with Azerbaijan is rather cheap. BTW, Welcome back. 15levels
Olmert on the loose just gave speech in Knesset. To summarize his speech: We will wipe out Lebanon and the Lebanese people if need be. He said a lot more and in particular that until Hizbollah is kicked out of South Lebanon and the border is safe there will be no halt to the strikes. Nasrallah knows that, Lebanese know that and the rest of the world as well. High price to pay for a fool who plays with fire.
Sassun
Yes, I have. I have also seen American apaches go down by rifle shots. I see what I saw on TV, and heard what witnesses saw with their own eyes. Remember that those who were there are not HezbAllah fighters or sympathizers. And also the people there were the Lebanese Army so it is not war propaganda. The army has not yet confirmed anything (I think for diplomatic reasons - it has not taken sides so far in this conflict and does not want to be directly involved even though it was attacked) but from what we saw (we also saw LIVE video of the fallen aircraft pieces) it was definitely a F-16. This explains the change in Israel's explanations about what had fallen from the sky following the launch of the rocket and indeed the entire Olmert televised speech. Nasrallah knows that, Lebanese know that and the rest of the world as well. High price to pay for a fool who plays with fire. Yes that's what he said... Israel apparently would accept a ceasefire provided that Hezballah retreats north and releases the 2 captured Israeli soldiers. But at first, Israel was aiming to remove Hezballah from Lebanon for good. I wonder what made Israel change its stance. Is it because they care for the Lebanese people and the civilian casualties? No, I doubt it. It's because they are suffering greatly.
