heya!

last week I spent the whole week watching movies at the rotterdam film festival, there I saw this armenian film/documentary (it is something in between) by Harutyun Khachatryan, called "documentarist" or "vaveragrogh" in Armenian...I have to say I was sceptical when i went but the film was amazingly impressing and filmed beautifully. would advise it to anyone if you have the chance to see it! (but be ready, it gives a kinda depressing image of armenia)

you van read more about it on this link

Anybody seen Rules of Attraction? I was surprised, it's not a comedy like a thought. Actually a decently filmed movie about the intertwining lives of some college students, leaning all to a darker side of Life. Pretty intersting, and funny in a dark sort of way. I'd actually say it's a worth a DVD rental. :P

This movie almost made no sense, but then it did. I don't know if that makes sense. I'm still trying to figure out if it helps to know that the character played by the dawsons creek dude is the brother of the character Christian Bale plays in 'American Psycho'<--- did you ever see that movie?

I saw 'Miracle' (with Kurt Russel) this weekend. It was actually a pretty good feel-good movie. It't about the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid when the Americans beat all odds and upset the Russian team in ice hockey. You know the team is going to win but it's still cool to watch them all upset and working hard and they play the game with such conviction it's almost as if you're watching the USA team beat the Russuans all over again. I'm all for great competition, I think that's what makes watching mosts sports fun, when the underdog wins or when the game is soo close to call. Anyway I give it a 9. Wish there were more people at the theatre watching the movie.........

The movie left a lot to interpretation (as far as relationships and finding a purpose in life etc., not feeling in a box). I also liked catching a glimpse of Japan.

Hmmmm... I just finished watching Lost in Translation. I felt the movie was struggling to find its identity. Sophia Coppola did a fairly good job as a director - she established the emotional 'longing' the characters are both experiencing. In fact she parlays this feeling to the audience with long, slow scenes that do not develop - they did nothing for the movie... except make me feel 'longing' for the film to come to an end. :o Despite this, I think the acting was quite good... 6/10 (and no, not an oscar please)

Love Actually

Pros: One of the coolest films I have ever seen. Funny as well as touching. Keira Knightley is HOT! :P

Cons: nothing!

Verdict: A must see, Im not a big fan of these girly films - but even I left more than satisfied

9.5/10

Big Fish

Saw big fish couple weeks back, I just remmember being disapointed - it was nothing special.

6/10

Really?! That's an interesting tidbit that I had no clue about...I haven't seen American Psycho but I'm familiar with what it's about and how sick and :yucky: it is. It's a quasi-social commentary on American excess che?

I just saw City of God. I liked it but I don't know if others will. It was just very different than what you normally see. It takes place in Brazil, done in Portuguese with English subtitles, intense.

I heard about this move a looong time ago. Glad it came stateside for viewing, I haven't seen it yet. But what you said is exactly what I've heard about it "...intense"

Yeah it's pretty sick but also quite funny sometimes.

It gets much sicker by the way, try buying one of those low-budget Asian 'maffia' movies...

Kill Bill vol2

Pros: better than vol1, Uma in yellow tracksuite :P , Bill's an Aussie yobbo :D.

Cons: Still crap and 'uncool' compared to Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction.

Verdict: Tarantino needs to get off the cocaine. I cant believe this film was 4 years in the making, its pretty ordinary

6.5/10

I've just seen the Passion of the Christ (finally).

I never thought I'd say this but I've seen enough blood to last me ten years. And what's up with that slow-motion crap anyway? The whole movie was in slow motion fs. In real time it would be at least half an hour shorter. This was a serious contender for wrong-movie-visit-of-the-year, with LotR3, though the acting here was a bit better.

Troy I really liked it and I would recommended everyone to go and see it.

I on the other hand rate it very poor. Among a whole load of things, the northeastern Aegaean coast is not as arid as they put Troy to be, and the way they left out the whole scene of Paris being cooed by the three goddesses on the Ida mountains while tending to sheep sucked - big time. Oh, and, last but not least - Achilles, a white Anglo-Saxon Protestant womaniser. Wow. OK, sorry, he's Irish Catholic, I shouldn't say that.

Ararat on DVD

5

Slightly better than I had expected, although halfway through I almost fell asleep and couldn't wait for it to finish. My favorite part was Gorky dancing to dap and zurna in his atelier. I wasn't very impressed by the rest and I fail to see all the depth and difficulty that so many people have talked about.

I loved that scene with Gorky - it brought tears to my eyes.

Nairi jan, take your time and watch it again - question the the way the movie was constructed... question the interplay/confict between the characters. Don't just focus on the story, but let the film guide you thorugh the challenges you yourself face as an armenian in diaspora - then you'll see the depth of the film, for it is not just in the plot.

Vava jan, you actually want me to go through that again? :) I did actually, a few times. I guess, like anything else, you could analyze it to no end, putting your own interpretation through your own experience into it as much as you want and even read into to it much more than Egoyan intended (was this not one of the main themes?). That scene with Gorky dancing made me laugh.

Egoyan made one good movie as far as I'm concerned and that was Krapp's Last Tape. Another movie that was almost as powerful was Felicia's Journey. Both based on Irish works. I'm sorry, I'm just not into anything else he made. Maybe I need more braincells to appreciate his art, but at this point, I don't. With Ararat, for me, there was no need for all the hoopla around it, making it artificially complex as if without it it would be impossible for him to say what he wanted to say. Some people may appreciate this, but I don't. Keep it simple and thought-provoking. It's just not my style.

21 grams was one of the most interesting films I have seen lately. Superb acting, excellent editing and great direction.

To the lovers of sitcom (and haters of G.W.BUsh) - download My Bush! from emule - its worth every second. They made 7 episodes (were shown on Comedy Central) and then got banned. Hey, eh, you cant make fun of the American president (even if he is the dumbest ever in the office).

havent seen that yet-- but i just saw Troy a few weeks back- that was a good movie but not what i exected. Some of the characters really pissed me off- like Orlando Bloom's character- i wanted so punch him in the stomach- butt Brad's sizzlin body made up for most of the stuff...

i think they cuold have done better with the plot and the story line- because i really expected way more from this movie- but i cannto say that it was horrible- because they put alot of effort into it and it was entertaining.
