sev-mard
Paycheck Pros: John Woo's style, and it wasn't too overdone this time. A cool concept with a decent story. Imagine a nuveau Total Recall. Cons: Ben Affleck, and Uma Thurman(as the hottie, but she isn't), John Woo's style Overall I was suprised, it was a decent flick, with some "believeable" sci-fi action and concepts in it. It's not going to change the world and I know it won't be a big hit because Affleck is so "popular" now people are going to hate on him. But it's worth a rental maybe. I just went to see it with my girl and her younger sister. 7/
gurgen
Anyone seen The Last Samurai yet? Trying to figure out whether it's worth going to.
sev-mard
Some people say it's good. I have a connection to Japan, so I don't know how realistic it is. So i'm waiting to see it as well. But i've heard good reviews from people, not critics
shiner
I saw The Last Samurai, I think it is worth seeing especially if you are interested in Japanese culture
sev-mard
Yeah I speak/read/write if fluently, and was out there for two years teaching English. I really should go see it, have been lazy...
shiner
I think another cool movie which I have not seen (actually it is also a book that I have not read) is Shogun. Shogun takes place in the 1600's, The Last Samurai takes place in the 1870's or so. Edited January 12, 2004 by shiner
sev-mard
Shogun is a very good movie. Pretty cool all around I think. Based on some true historical events as well. It's a big of an epic weighing in at almost 3 hours, or even surpassing that if i'm not mistaken. Two 1:30 halves i believe, but well worth the watch. I read the book too, now that is looonnng~! CheekY
the italian job was nice 9/
vava
the italian job was nice 9/10 I really preferred the orginal with Steve McQueen. He was the king of that genre (car-chase action movie). Ocean's Eleven - also preferred the original. New movies aren't necessarily better movies, eventhough the production valuenow is much higher (ex LOTR series - probably the most visually stunning series of movies ever made!) gurgen
I really preferred the orginal with Steve McQueen. Wasn't the original one with Michael Caine and Benny Hill? Or am I crazy
Accelerated
We were going to see the "Last Samurai" last night, but the place was packed out so agreed on Cold Mountain in the hope that there will be at least be some action: we were to be dissapointed, wasnt too bad though Cold Mountain Pros: Five star cast. About as good a drama can get. The preacher. Get to see Nicole Kidmans blond pubes! - I kid you not. Natalie Portman being raped. Cons: Its a romantic drama! Renee Zelwegger - she has a 'tomboy' role here: poor acting effort through the entire movie - she just looks like she has diarroea and her bowels will open minute now! Verdict: Go see it with your g/f(b/f) . I would never give a drama more than 7 points, but Nicoles blond pubes earn this movie another 1/2 point 7.
Accelerated
21 Grams Pros: Great cast and acting, Del Toro is particular. Original. Naomi Watts oversized nipples. Some funny bits (if you got a sick mind like me) Cons: Its a 'tsan@r' (heavy) film, so dont go in expecting to get cheered up. First 1/2 hour drags a little. Ending punch-line could have been better worded IMO. Verdict: Worth seeing just for the acting performances, but not to everyones taste 8.5/10 Edited January 23, 2004 by Accelerated
gamavor
Shogun oh, Sev- mart, you opened an old wound . Once I was injured slightly, but I needed some medical assistance. Actually I was burnt like Van Der Lube, so when I got to the hospital, the medical personnel (doctors and nurses) put me in a waiting room for an hour until Shogun serial has finally over. Other than that good movie, Torinaga san!
allarmeniangirl
BigFish I give it a 7.5. I don't know what it was about that movie that I liked. It was romantic, traditional, somewhat heroic and something else that I can't quite put my finger on. The Last Samurai was a good movie. I enjoyed it. I give it an 8-

But that's how I feel her face, ALWAYS looks. She's note cute, and she does look like it could go at any minute.
Accelerated
She's only ever got one look on her face - constipated - and this time she was REALLY straining it! She cant act for sh!t. Edited January 24, 2004 by Accelerated
sev-mard
So true bro, she's bad looking with that face. Anybody seen Rules of Attraction? I was surprised, it's not a comedy like a thought. Actually a decently filmed movie about the intertwining lives of some college students, leaning all to a darker side of Life. Pretty intersting, and funny in a dark sort of way. I'd actually say it's a worth a DVD rental.
Dan
She's only ever got one look on her face - constipated - and this time she was REALLY straining it! Azat
Big Fish - 9 This is one of the best movies that I have ever seen. Tim Burton has many good movies, but this is exceptional.
Accelerated
Last Samurai Pros: Everything about the first half of the movie. First battle is cool. Cons: Everything about the second half of movie. Tom Cruise achker@ s@rooma ('narrowing his eyes') in a pathetic attempt to look Japanese. Tom Cruise pleading with the Emperor - presumably in an attempt to get Oscar . Unlikelly story. Verdict: Ordinary - in isolation though 1st half of the movie would get a 9/10. 6.5/

I was thinking Steve Mcqueen 'cause of Bullitt and The Getaway. But yes, the original Italian job was Michael Caine. Good catch
Azat
Lost in Translation - 3/10 Why is this stupid movie considered to be such a great movie? Can someone else who has seen this movie tell me why it is so Oscar worthy?
ED
Azat, you just ruined a movie night bud; we were going to see this tomorrow, was it that bad? I heard so many good reviews about it; well anyways I guess we well go see the BIG FISH. By the way did anybody catch the MYSTIC RRIVER yet? I want to go see it again, simply great movie, and I thing this movie will win the Oscar this year.
allarmeniangirl
I saw The Butterfly Effect 2day and it was a really good movie. I give it a 9. It was also good to see Ashton Kutcher play a serious role(he can act).......it was g00000d.
shiner
Lost in Translation - 3/10 Why is this stupid movie considered to be such a great movie? Can someone else who has seen this movie tell me why it is so Oscar worthy? Hey Azat, I actually liked it. It was not a stupid comedy like I expected it to be. The movie left a lot to interpretation (as far as relationships and finding a purpose in life etc., not feeling in a box). I also liked catching a glimpse of Japan.
