KGB
I totally agree with you Anon. Coercion is when a person doesn't have a choice. When a father or a mother suggests or even encourages for his son or daughter to attend Armenian get-to-gethers and balls "barahantes"s doesn't mean they are coercing. It simply means that they are heartily encouraging. In the Armenian pleateau, boys and girls; who may I ask they have met, FELL IN LOVE WITH!!!!! and marry!!!!! ARMENIANS, right? So KGB or others; you are giving us nonsense. How come our ansestors for a thousand and plus years, looked at each other, fell in love with each other (REALLY FELL IN LOVE), and then marry each other so that you and me were born. For years Armenians inter-married with each other and passed on the generation from one to the other. Suddenly now we may or may not fall in love amongst ourselves or with one another? What kind of nonsense talk is this? Illogical, unrealistic and plain nonsense. There is a huge difference between "suggests or even encourages" and incessent pestering. Someone forcing his/her own child into making a choice between a parent and a potential mate is coercion - it may not be coercion according to the fanatical perpertrators, with whom you and Anonymouse eagerly simpathize, but their (the parents') inability to reason without fervent passion means their opinions can be disregarded with little effort. For you to say they are "heartily encouraging" proves you are a fanatic who is not accustomed to reasonable thought. To claim that I'm speaking nonsense is one thing; to actually prove that my original post is full of nonsense is something totally different. You continue to claim that I'm speaking nonsense but you have not debunked anything I've said. If you are to dispute my original post, please prove it is nonsense without using words like illogical and nonsense. If you want a good example of nonsense, it is this: I am replying to you with the hope that you will at least consider my point of view, but I think this is highly unlikely. Because of this, I will restrain myself from visiting this forum. You and your leader Anonymouse are basically expanding the conventional Armenian views on inter-racial dating to areas where logic is not even applicable - it is fanaticism. To actually claim that having interest in non-Armenians is a prurient interest (basically, it is a sin) shows that you have developed your own religion to justify yourselves. Yervant1
Because of this, I will restrain myself from visiting this forum. KGB this forum belongs to everyone who follows the rules and regulations. We all disagree from time to time with each other and everybody has the right to express their opinions. In cases like this when a thread reaches its ugly state I stop posting and move on, you can do the same. On my part you are welcome in this forum like anyone else, keep visiting and posting. KGB: You are angry at me because I said illogical and nonsensical in reference to your input about not encouraging mothers to have their children to intermarry with Armenians. I want you to know that I would never say that you are illogical or nonsensical; but I said it about only this subject matter and how you are gearing towards a 'laissez faire' attitude about Armenians intermarrying. First of all please don't leave the Forum for me or for anyone else. Of course I want you to stay, learn, advise, discuss, whatever you wish to do. I most certainly don't want you to leave. However I really feel strongly about this subject matter; because I feel that Armenians in the Diaspora are the majority of our nationality and intermarrying is the only means and way of keeping us to stay Armenian abroad. Do you know how many times people on this Forum disagreed with each other, with me or visa versa? Many times; but if you leave, that would be a defeatus attitude. You are Armenian, and Armenians are strong people. So be strong and do not leave because people disagree with you or with your thoughts. I have been personally attacked, told off, and much more; but I have stayed. You are saying that I am a fanatic; I tell you KGB, I love all kinds of people from all walks of life; but is it fanaticism because I feel very strongly for the preservation of our nationality in the Diaspora?...and the very need to intermarry with our own kind? If that's what you wish to call me, oh well..... However, I am sure that my way and my thoughts are the sole path for the preservation of our nationality in the Diaspora. I really believe in it. phantom22
Edward, The present age is like no other we have seen. The young are bombarded with a global culture which is diametrically opposed to traditional Armenian cultural norms. The "genie is out of the bottle" and there is no way we are going to get him back into the bottle. What about the prospect that a little flexibility would have saved the nation from the situation it finds itself in today? If the Armenian nobles had not exterminated hundreds-of-thousands Armenian Paulicians and Tondrakians, we would have been less vulnerable to being run over by invaders. phantom22
When I became actively involved with Armenian community affairs, I felt that I was in the kindergarten classroom where I was forced to teach after I dropped out of law school. (My Dad had died suddenly after years of eating SUPER RICH Armenian and American foods, forcing me to return home to manage family affairs). Everything that I stated (e. g. Cher should MC an Armenian telethon for the Armenian Cause) was shot down by a grossly overweight Armenian "brother," who told me that Cher was a disgrace to our community. Perhaps he hadn't had sex in years and was angry that she exuded sexuality. ok kiddies, take it to private messages and please allow this thread to get back to the topic at hand! the rest of us are not interested in these issues,as amusing as they are on this beautiful Sunday morning move on... I agree that with the older generation that is true, but honestly it's not reality anymore, and it only works for a few years with our own children, they know very well they can go outside of Armenians for relationships and it won't be the end of the world or the end of their lives, and if they have decent families it will not put a strain on their family relationship...we can only plant the seed in their minds and in their hearts and hope for the best... almost nothing is 'amot' anymore..it is neither good or bad...it is what it is and we need to accept it and move on and hope for the best...can't get anywhere looking back and worrying what the 'older' generation is going to think... btw,I don't include myself in that 'older' generation Edited May 7, 2006 by Maral

She'll know what I prefer; but I must say when the time comes we have to wait and see. We cannot push her or we'll probably push her away. Food for thought for our leaders, including the leaders of our Churches, who should be serving their "flocks" instead of their "flocks" serving them. Maral: Although I am still shook up about what has transpired this morning; but in a way I can see your point; and (I only want to answer this time to you, I don't wish to talk about this any more!!!!!!!!!!) Having a child myself and being realistic; I can plant the seed as you have put it, show her the ropes, tell her what's right and wrong which we do it anyway, and then let her read her literature on her own and find it out more on her own. She'll know what I prefer; but I must say when the time comes we have to wait and see. We cannot push her or we'll probably push her away. I plan to be tactful as you seem to be that way too. Anonymouse
You are a fanatic. It seems your religion is Christianity mixed with a heavy dose of Armenian racism. All I can say is don't ever stray far from the Armenian community because you will find yourself all alone, especially if you decide to attend a church that is not located anywhere near an Armenian community. The church you attend will be full of people who, like you, also consider themselves to be "true disciples of Christ," except that they won't know what an Armenian is and won't even make an effort to find Armenia on a map. Typical response of an ignorant dolt. When arguments become superior the last refuge of the pointless is to utter the garbage which you did. When you see yourself outmatched in an argument and your sophistry is not enough, what other way to compensate for your lack of substance than to resort to the old friend, Mr. ad hominem? If you are going to sit here and be the intellectual midget that you are, you may as well stop throwing spurious assertions and show exactly how I am racist. And if racism means the self-preservation of my race and culture, then by that definition I am a racist and proud, as any blacks and Mexicans are able to do. The last thing Armenians need is for self-aggrandizing parasitic opportunists that cannot even effectively argue or justify dating non Armenians (except for their prurient interests) without bending and warping the definition of coercion. And when that flaw is pointed, they react like babies whining. And where did you get the silly information that I am somehow talking of Christianity? I did not mention anything about that because Christianity is a mere ideology, and is secondary to blood and soul. Christianity to me is more of a cultural marker for Armenians, and it serves more of a cultural than a religious purpose. Furthermore, your assertion that if I stray outside of the Armenian community I will find myself 'alone' is again, unfounded and stupid for two reasons. First, you do not know me and thus that is nothing more than hot air. Second, I have lived for most my life in non-Armenian environments. I have gone to school, associated with, been around and seen many non-Armenians. I have seen every culture and been among them more than you can imagine. I have been in the deepest recesses and hearts of Los Angeles, East L.A., South Central, Inglewood. I have seen enough of Asians, Mexicans and blacks to see that there are differences between these races and cultures and that I do not want to mix with them. There is no racism in what is the natural, rather, the cognitive ability of humans to differentiate. Only in the twisted and inverted era of multicultural political correctness are weak human minds not able to make these distinctions and submit to whatever soundbyte or propaganda they hear from media, punits and their middle school teachers. I have dabbled in diversity more than you to know, to conclude that I do not want that. I still have many friends and pals that are non-Armenian. Advocating the preservation of your race and culture, and associating or making friends with non-Armenians are not mutually exclusive things except in the mediocre minds. Dealing with you is a waste of time because you will not budge one inch from your present position, regardless of what your opponents say. Have a nice life... Aww are you hurt that you waste your time? I am glad I was able to waste some time from your pointless and hedonistic existence. To actually claim that having interest in non-Armenians is a prurient interest (basically, it is a sin) shows that you have developed your own religion to justify yourselves. You really have issues with this and are taking this way more personally than you should and it's not healthy. I am no one's leader and you have still not demonstrated how a parent expecting their child to marry an Armenian is coercive. If you don't like it and if you don't like being Armenian, pack your bags, kiss your parents goodbye and go and marry your Chinese sweetheart. Who is stopping you? It seems you yourself have issues and are stopping yourself. Stop blaming your parents and crying and start acting, eh? Unless of course, you are still a dependent which is most likely the case. Anonymouse
When you play the "rare man" role, she invariably wants to become your friend, not your lover. Women are not really true to their feelings. What they say they want is not what they really want. They want a tough man to ravish them, not a gentle lover. So I rarely show that I really understand their inner feelings. Precisely! Once you become a woman's "friend", she will no longer see you as a potential emotional or sexual mate and something deeper. She sees you "only as a friend", quoth the woman, and nothingmore. Women always want the opposite of what they claim they want verbally. When a woman says she wants a "sensitive" man, she doesn't just mean that. She means the whole package: someone who is sensitive, tough, rough, alpha, intelligent, attractive, etc. It's like some company who has an open security position. Will they hire the guy who can just scope out the camera, or the guy who is big tough, is able to scope out the camera, is familiar with electronics, physically fit, etc.? hagopn
Pure excellence. We have to forget about living outside Armenia if our intention is to remain Armenians, and, therefore, we have to lift mental and then, gradually, physical barriers for the sake of the generations, if we truly care about them. Mental barriers and physical barriers cross-influence on our day to day dealings as Armenians. We have the mental barriers of a small republic, too little land, landlocked, too little economic prospect in living there, too little chance of prospering materially as average urbanite lemmings... That's one barrier. The failing in our communities, our interrelationships as individuals and families, and so on all come from this substratum of hopelessness within the Armenian national context, but, as the old saying goes, you make the world as much as the world makes you. Then there is the barrier of the globalist ideology that Anonymouse mentioned. Nicely done, even though he's completely off the rocker on his denial that Armenians are a primordial nation, he has articulated the plight of nations in today's institutionalized anti-nationalism very well. After the mental barriers have been at least partly lifted, the physical barriers shall be gradually lifted, as they have been lifted to the tune of 14,000 square kilometers with the recovery of Armenian land from our murderous neighbors since 1994. I must say, despite my die-hard nationalist mentality, I had an additional "uplifting experience" after the 1992 reclamation of Shushi by Armenian forces. I somehow looked at my Armenian wife and my Armenian children in a different and more hopeful light. Try it one day, those who think nationalism is something about limousines and police escorts, flags, borders, and so on, to think of nationalism in this manner, that of a multi-generational tunnel of hope from the past to the future... Armenians can afford to be unique in this regard among nations. We are a nation with a strong set of roots, so long as we maintain memory of those very real roots. As my good friend always says, Keep the Faith. Hajoghutyun Յաջողոըթիւն Ա՜, այս ֆորումում հայերեն կարելի է գրել: Դէ, աւելի լաւ---

And if you think this was about 'changing' one anothers position you bit more than you could chew. EDIT: By the way, everyone is a fanatic in something. WOW! This is pure poetry! This is the most beautiful response I have read yet! Anonymouse, you are wrong about the fact that Armenians are not primordial as a nation, but your argument above is simply marvelous and true to the bone. It is always some tragic character flaw, a personal limitation, an shortsighted egotism, and, most importantly, that dastardly herd reflex that makes a person conform while believing that he is independent within an imperialist context. For example, you are constantly bombared with anti-nationalist bombs at every angle, from the songs you listen to, the movies you watch, the social studies classes you take, the novels you read, and all other communications media at the disposal of an institutionalized society of "melting the contents of the pot." Whil having been bombarded since brith via these sources, you are constantly told by these pavlolivian forces that "nationalism is racism, and racism is bad,' and then the conditioning is complete. The dupe that goes through this robotic programming does not ever realize, until perhaps his deathbed, that he has been a total fool, thrown from side to side to fulfill some sort of state mandated social agenda. The very few who are destined to be the visionaries who see this will be labelled with prefabricated derogatory slogans and titles, "Racist, Fascist, guitarist, pianist... (hey, music is an integral part of my racist life)" and so on. They shall always be isolated and alone among a sea of unthinking, ungrateful (to their ancestors), unfeeling, desensitized and utterly branwashed lemmings. Those few, then, will leave for a homeland once again. After all, they shalle be exasperated and exhausted in dealing with a large mechanism, a large and well-honed state (and now, quite global) apparatus designed to do away with "barriers to profit and conquest" such as nations and groupings that compete in general (hence the bombardment against the Catholic Church as well as any resistant nation such as the Serbs, Armenians, and so on). These "returning" itinerants have been a comon fertilizing phenomenon in our history, and I hope to be one who shall join their noble ranks. I am hoping for our state to be strong enough to support the true aspirations of our nation one day, and for that reason I own a home there. At this moment, one foot (the economic) is in the Disappearia, and the other in Armenia... the portion that we have been blessed with for the time being. In other words, "interracial marriages" are the topic of those who wish to forget that they are human beings with obligations to their ancestors. This sense of debt and duty to ancestry is a beautiful, highly spiritual, and noble instinct, and, unfortunately, it is one that has to be taught: Perhaps in the platonic sense, it has to be "revived and brought to the forefront" past all the animal and reptillian instincts of the two lower portions of the brain into the Cerebral Cortex where the spirit finds its home. Higher human civilized functions such as multigenerational thought have been taught via ritual and myth. It is either taught by myth, example, and, ideally, by ritual. Today, the same form of "ritual" is being used for the opposite effect of detached denationalized mayflies. The mythology we are being fed is that of the "spiritual egotist," an absurd justaposition of two opposing and incompatible images of the "spiritual saint and the egotistical and selfish fool with the short memory." We are taught at the lowest level to think in terms of "I am an individual with my own gonads and libido and must be left to my animal (so-called "romantic") instincts in order to advance my egotistical life" and this message is played again and again in the mass media and also the educational/academic world. When you get tired of swimming against a sea of shit, consider seriously investing in the noble project of enlarging your homeland's political boundaries, and I mean seriously, and sersiously think about investing into the move there, in concrete and material, as well as psychological, terms...
