    Weird names

How about the name ARAM? Is it Arameic, how come only Armenians use it today?
  2. only 1/3 of Armenians in Russia or maybe it was in Moscow are from the Armenia proper. I recently read a very interesting study on this in Russian unfortunately (for those interested ...please google it). The rest (majority) of Armenians come from Georgia, Azerbaijan refugees, Central Asian states, the European ex-Soviet states and of course some have been in Russia for a couple of generations. The 2/3 of Armenians in Russia speak Russian at home and mostly adhere to the Russian culture...in other words...the issue of moving back is probably not realistic.
  3. Zurderer, the ethnic background of this TURKISH citizen should not matter and particularly when it comes to defending the rights of its own citizens, Turkey should NOT pay attention by its CONSTITUTION (correct?)about ethnic origin of its citizens. Are you saying there is discrimination in Turkey based on ethnic origin/religion/language etc? I always thought Turkey was a model democracy in the Middle East.
  4. "puri" also means bread in hindi
  5. hehe I came as a child, too young to be a bride. but I recognize a girl on bride.ru website and I can tell you she comes from a very good family, is educated etc.
  6. there is also bride.ru that has armenians and azeris and georgians on it as well.
  7. how do you think i got to this country?
  8. I've been curious to do this, the mtDNA test which will show where your mama's mama came from but have been too cheap to spend that much money on it.
  9. faces of hamshens in russia (I believe these are the christian ones) sorry the forum is in russian for those who don't understand but still can check out pics http://forum.openarmenia.com/index.php?sho...=13336&st=0

  11. I mostly meant stereotypically, meaning kind of like a rumor...with just like any stereotype some people will match it and some people won't. Also, I doubt we can get any statistics unless if somebody volunteers to stand on the corner of Glenoaks and Pacific Avenue and collect opinions ....ok joking...in truth I believe that being good or bad in bed depends on couples chemistry match not as much the ethnic background...but perhaps I am wrong ...
  12. I think, we the Armenian people stereotypically are great in bed! SanVal, did that answer your question :)
  13. the question is "Why are we discussing this on an Armenian issues related forum?"
  14. I agree here, I do also know/heard/read that they pretty much consider themselves Turks.
  15. whoever started this post "have you ever been to Turkey?" they are a very hospitable culture, unless you want to investigate something there about Armenians...then they want to put you in jail "Midnight Express" style.
  16. I know Zartonk, I was not trying to prove anything scientifically...but if i think about it again Yezidi Kurds living in Armenia are more Armenian to me personally, than these people today unfortunately...we tend to cling to genes which is irrelevant in my opinion.
  17. rough analysis of Armenianness: Christian Hamshen living in Russia religion - Armenian Apostolic - pass language - Hamshen dialect+Russian - semi-pass tradition - turko-russian - fail national consciousness - a type of Armenian - pass Muslim Hamshen living in Russia religion - fail language - semi-pass tradition - turko-russian - fail national consciousness - a type of Armenian - pass Muslim Hamshen living in Turkey religion - fail language - fail (mostly turkish these days) tradition - turkish - fail national consciousness - proud to be turkish citizens with armenian roots - FAIL compare to Jewish Armenian (an Armenian practicing Judeism who was born and grew up in Armenia) religion - fail language - only Armenian (fluent in Russian) - pass tradtion - only Armenian - pass national consciousness - Armenian - pass
  18. from Armenopedia "There are currently 400,000 Hamshen Armenians, half of which are Muslims. Most Christian Hamshen Armenians reside in Abkhazia and the Krasnodar region of Russia." the question is - how do we convert the other half back into their origins? Is this too late? Is this a violation of freedom of religion? And lastly - what makes one an Armenian (is it the language, religion, traditions, or just the willingness to be one irregardless of the things mentioned above).
  19. I recently read that pretty much all the Hemshens that settled in Southern Russia belong to the Armenian Apostolic Church, it's only the remaining ones in Turkey are Islamisized (actually that was the reason why they were NOT touched during the Genocide).

    52%

Turkey had a female premier though and Pakistan an Islamic country has Benazir Bhutto, a female premier as well, so the problem is not Turkish or Islamic but rather Russian-influenced (where are those "civilized" Russia's female politicians?)
  21. Armenians that are well-off in Russia would not make a big fuss about this utter intolerance because of fear of losing their possessions, the Russian government seems to be either supporting or putting on a blind eye when it comes to these murders to satisfy the thirst of the russian population that has been left out of the benefits of privatization and market economy.

    Stereotypes

how about stereotypes that apply to all three groups together: For example: Ararat and Masis oil painting in the living room above sofa, painted by some amateur painter, sometimes bought at Vernisage in Yerevan, sometimes not, but sometimes the painter is so amateur that the mountains really are unrecognizable.
