I agree Edward, a stable democractic (not to be confused with pro-Western) Armenia is essential to attract diasporans back or at least to inrease the level of investment that comes from diasporans. And also good neighborly relations in the region, lack of violence. Another component is the Soviet era aparatchik mentality amongst current Armenian leaders, hunger for power and more and more and more wealth, which has left a meager 2.9 million people in the country. Another important point is equality between diasporan Armenians and local Armenians by way of equal citizenship rights etc.

YAN stems from the Russian way of spelling and subsequently of the pronunciation of the Armenian last names. In Russian, the letter "я" (pronounced YA) plus letter "n" is used to create the Armenian IAN ending, therefore one hears a clear YAN as opposed IAN (pronounced ee-aan) which is virtually impossible to pronounce in Russian. Hence the Soviet Armenians mostly have the YAN ending.

Emma, lots of Armenians in the diaspora do not come from Armenia, your comparisons therefore might not make sense. for example: if it is an Iranian Armenian in US then you might want to compare that with an Iranian-Armenian who still lives in Iran.

we are BROWN...nobody considers Armenians to be white except Armenians with inferiority complex like you. Walk around Glendale...90% of people have brown eyes, brown hair and dark olive toned skin...and this is beautiful btw...much more than same pale ugly look.
