  1. Shahan, this kind of mentality is going to hurt you the most unfortunately. I know it's hard to understand but just trust me. You already alienated people here and that only really hurts you. Please stop this kind of thinking.
  2. I am also a product of Hoover High and just finished a graduate degree at Columbia. Go Hoover!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. I agree with you Ani and Edward, my main point was that Armenians or the Armenian youth did not invent the "hit and run" phenomenon, nor they invented rich parents buy expensive cars to their undeserving kids phenomenon. While we might feel "shameful" in this particular case b/c the perpetrator was "one of us", the bigger picture tells that this is an unfotunate case and I am glad the driver was caught and will be punished accordingly. As far as Armenia being a lawless society, I will not argue against that either, but given its history and only very recent independence from even corrupt soviet system, i think this should not come as a surprise. It is great that we know where we are lacking, the questions is how to improve... Finally, what about those license plates, I am not familiar to this Armenian system at all.
  4. come on guys, don't you think you are overreacting a bit about the whole armenian youth thing, this kind of hit and run, running to mexico thing is very americana. The incident is very unfortunate, a young girl was taken away from life because of a reckless driver but let's not be carried away with sentimental ethnic arguments...really anybody could have acted cowardly like this, perhaps an educational and social class has something to do with it but even that argument is weak for me.
  5. let's make this Jivan Gasparyan is the best threat!!! here is another video with Jivan and Presnyakov (for those who understand russian) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-mwDNMBac4
  6. finally...this was long overdue. I've personally dumped men before for being too talkative..
  7. Tokyo = Eastern Capital To - eastern kyo - capital Kyoto - Capital City Kyo-capital to - city, metropolis (when at the end)
  8. First dear Mozart, don't believe everything you read on this site, there are armenians that are very open minded and will marry a Martian in a heartbeat if they are in love. I do believe that your relationship ended for various other reasons...one of which might be his armenianness but I doubt that it's all there is. This is going to be a hard time for you but sooner or later you'll move on and will realize that you learned a lot from this relationship and things will become more clear...meaning it will become more clear why this relationship was not meant to last. You sound like you are very young, perhaps early 20s...you have lots of time to explore good luck!
  9. pedophilia I think is not mentioned either I consider myself to be very open-minded about these kind of issues, nonetheless, I still cannot stop thinking that there is something inherently "wrong" in homosexuality, or it is not the norm or something of the sort. I still have to figure out what it is that I don't like.
  10. no you simply want to understand it that way, in my post I was referring to offering help to her, if I am talking about offering help then obviously I don't find it to be ok, I was simply asking you not to judge her (have mercy and compassion...the Christian thing...the Armenian thing...you forgot that Armenians are Christians and should adhere to Christian values of compassion as opposed to heathen values of ignorance and ill will...I guess you've been assimilated into the materialistic American mind-set...alas by your logic if one person has a different value system from you and your immediate circle then they are assimilated? Interesting???? May I care to classify you as uber-conservative which by the way makes me think that YOU are indeed assimilated into the American conservative thinking machine...but I will not make that judgement as I have read only few posts from you.
  11. no i don't find this situation to be ok in misfortunate situations...but that's the reality and what does assimiliation has to do with anything...grow up a little, take Harut's advice about getting to know people outside of immediate circle...ask your parents to stop supporting you financially...then your perception of your reality will perhaps change...and you'll stop judging
  12. I'll have to say that I am ashamed that you guys are so narrow minded to judge someone like that. Life is full of hardship and misfortune and particularly for some people, unless you walk in her shoes, nobody should come here and put down this person or other...perhaps you can offer to help but don't judge please.
  13. I know because she is a female, she has to be the receiver ...lol
  14. then perhaps our political and intellectual leaders and community organizers have to make a conscious effort to "re-educate" the masses about the advantages of the diversity. This perhaps can become one of the avenues to achieve unity.
  15. Zartonk, I only agree with #4 here, moreover I think #3 is an unrealizable dream...so then if there is a diversity of opinion then what we should not unite? I think we can only "unite" based on loosely defined cultural, economic, political goals and by loosely I mean goals that do not require some sort of uber-patriotic extremist unrealizable committments. #4 in Shahan's list makes that exact point of loosely defined- well being of armenians both in the diaspora and in Armenia. What do we mean by well-being...well every Armenian individual can decide on their own. In my opinion, our unity should be based around a lot of choices and flexibility given the diverse socio-economic, political histories that we all bring into the big picture of what today is to be Armenian. And I refer to our diversity as a one of our important assets but we have to make sure to leave enough room from all diverse opinions to find their voice in this unity.
  16. Well, think about this when next time folks on this forum and elsewhere are putting down Turks calling them barbarians etc.
  17. armenianow.com has good articles, read it there

    Lilith...

Armenian "Lilit" and "Lilith" is the same name. The ending has to do with the Armenian letter "th" (as in titer) which corresponds to the Greek letter "theta" in both alphabets, the Greek "theta" appears in the English language as "th". Another example is the word "theory", which is from Greek and is written in Armenian with the same "th" as in the letter in Lilit.
  19. хорошая новость
  20. Edward, the woman's dress upfront comes down to her knees only...women started wearing shorter dresses in the West in 1920s, I personally think this is 30s.
  21. nice observation Arpa I would add that even the interior of the church might be orthodox russian as opposed to armenian. It's some sort of a church choir, definately Russian Armenian (meaning Eastern Armenian). Can be anywhere from Gyumri, Tiflis, Rostov on Don, Crimea or anyother place Armenians settled in the Russian Empire.
  22. Hi Anoushik, I know it's more of an "obscure" field of music...but still was interesting to learn about her.
  23. I was watching a Japanese movie the other day and one of the characters was obsessed with Susanna Mildonian, was quite an interesting experience to learn about one of your own from a Japanese film. So here is some information about Ms. Mildonian. Maybe others will know more about her, would like to learn. ***************************************************************************** Susanna Mildonian was born in Venice, Italy - daughter of Armenian parents. She studied harp with Margerita Cicognari at Benedetto Marcello Conservatory in Venice and later on in the Conservatory of Paris where she became the favourite student of Pierre Jamais, the head professor of the harp course. Susanna Mildonian is the only harpist to have ever won first prize in all three major International Competitions: First prize in the First International Harp Contest in Israel, unanimous First Prize at the International Music Competition in Geneva and First Prize in the Marcel Tournier International Competition in Paris. She has also been awarded the prestigious Grand Prix du Disque in Paris. At present Susanna Mildonian is Professor of Harp at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels, Belgium and of the International Summer course in "Accademia Musicale Chigiana" in Sienna and of the International Course "Centro di Cultura Musicale Superiore" for Perfection in Venice, Italy. Professor Susanna Mildonian is frequently invited to give master classes and concerts all over the world.
