  1. Alexander Suvorov is thought to me half-Armenian from his mother's side.
  2. one of the armenian last names that i don't understand is Aslanian - Aslan meaning "lion" in Turkish, which is also a Turkish male name the problem is that we don't have a last name Aryutsyan, how come?
  3. Arpa, I was laughing out loud at the stupid Israel quote that has been fabricated by Azeris. You know, ironically 200 years ago there WERE Armenians in those lands like in Jerusalem but there WERE NO Jews (they were all in Eastern Europe and North Africa/Iran). And ironically there were no Azeri nationality either 200 years ago. But we have been and are a small nationally stuck between big powers, so harassing and continuously taking away our lands has become the thing for the big empires - be it Ottomans, Turkey, Russia...all the same too me. This kind of fowl language has been pre-fabricated by big nations to belittle minority groups within the empire limits and therefore justify the annihilation of the minority culture and the ultimate goals being is appropriation of lands. If indeed Pushkin said that crap, which I have heard has been taken out of the context, then he was simply being an instrument to the russian tsarist state or otherwise he was an idiot, either way....i don't really care.
  4. Hello guys, you know what our Armenian issue is - we take AMEN MEKI ASATSE SIRTIN MOTIK I don't give f... what Pushkin said about us, or what Putin, Michaelangelo or Barak Obama think about Armenians. I know who I am and where I can from, some idiot's opinion does not concern me. And if Pushkin is such a low life to go around blasting other nationalities then he does not deserve to be recognized as a great poet but simply an asshole, horny half breed who slept around St Petersburg then as a karma got killed by a guy who was sleeping with his own wife.
  5. Anoosh, there is an armenian website that has a bunch of maps from different eras uploaded, I think it's called armenicum or armenica.org something like that, go there and search for the old yerevan maps, there is one map I remember from late 18th century that shows all the mosques as well as the quarters (like Armenian Quarter, Turkish Quarter etc.), it's a very interesting and enlightening map. I have also read once about the azeri mosque being operational somewhere in yerevan prior to 1988, it was located in the middle of the "bak", but now it's gone. good luck!
  6. yeap, i am can you post some information? Thanks.
  7. well i guess this is happens when one marries for money and comfort
  8. anybody who understand russian, this is on Vigen Abraamyants' killing event he court is racist, did not recognize it as a killing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FDNH1kYHx0...feature=related part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Vqepx--8T8...feature=related
  9. probably the best source will be to examine persian zoroastrian tradition, i think right before christianity armenians closely followed that faith and also intermarried with persians a lot at that time.

  11. aratta, the more educated and well-rounded people (as a generalization) normally come out more quakaquavari and these people are conceived by the more blue collar less educated as too soft. This phenomenon is omnipresent in pretty much every culture, each having its own versions of what is soft, miamit etc. are you specifically talking about armenians?
  12. Avo, are you in Tel-Aviv? I really enjoyed russian tv on israeli stations
  13. seriously guys, let this guy just BE, he is 19 and has much to go through in life, so far he is expressing some mature stuff for his age (yes, even if he copied from What Women Want), I personally worry about those who are in their 30s and have no clue, put out whereever it is possible!!!
  14. So when it comes to ranking Armenia's economic progress you TRUST U.S. academics? You are quoting Wall Street Journal, Heritage Foundations - can you guess where the people that work for these organizations went to school and got their degrees??? To be fair I think you should try quoting studies done in Armenia at Armenian higher educational institutions?
  15. Ashot, nice listing of armenian higher education institutions' websites but I still did not see anywhere that any of the programs are the best in the world, did you find any rankings?
