MosJan
CNN WILL MAKE US BEAUTIFUL Armenia will be advertized on CNN. On August 31 the government approved the conditions of CNN for advertising Armenia on this channel. The decision was made in accordance with the government policy on tourism provided for by the law on tourism. The deputy minister of trade and economic development Tigran Davtyan was instructed to sign the letter of agreement foreseen by the decision which will enable signing a contract with CNN and “present our country as sustainable, safe, favorable for business, investments, as well as attractive for tourists.” The expenditures on advertisement will be covered on the funds allocated for turning Tsaghkadzor a center of tourism in the framework of the program of development of tourism in Armenia. phantom22
Bravo, Armenia finally has gotten the message that tourism is an export industry that brings in money. So now Armenia will join the Turks who are marketing Armenian historical sites (Aghtamar Church, City of Ani) to improve the local economy. Dave
Turks can't use Armenian historical sites to make money, because even if those sites are now located in Turkey, they weren't designed, built, or used by Turks. Armenians can, however.. Turks have also destroyed Armenian vestiges in the past. Edited September 3, 2006 by Dave
phantom22
Yes, they have destroyed or let crumble to dust the majority of the sites under their control. Now for external political and tourism reasons they are preserving a few sites (but removing Armenian symbols). My ex-wife and I visited numerous Native American sites not built, or used by European Americans, but run by them now and making money for them. So your argument, Dave, is not correct. The Armenians can give a more authentic backdrop to these sites, that is correct. What are the Turkish guides going to say to the tourists? That the Armenians suddenly went on vacation 90 years ago, never returned and that their children and grandchildren are now living in tony suburbs of major Western cities? name='Dave' date='Sep 2 2006, 08:05 PM' post='177776'] Turks can't use Armenian historical sites to make money, because even if those sites are now located in Turkey, they weren't designed, built, or used by Turks. Yervant1
ARMENIA HOLDS THE 74-TH PLACE IN WORLD TOURISM RATING By Ara Martirosian AZG Armenian Daily 02/03/2007 According to information provided by the Armenian "Economy and Values" partner of the organization, Armenia is the 74-th of 124 states in the international tourism rating list. Armenia is the third most popular tourist site among the CIS states and has disadvantage of only Georgia (the 66-th) and Russia (68-th). The World Economy Forum report says that the most popular tourist state remains Switzerland, then come Austria and Germany. The lest popular countries are Chad, Burundi and Angola. The competitiveness of countries in the tourism sphere is defined by three main parameters - corresponding legislation, business are and infrastructures and human, culture and natural resources. Armenia has considerable advantage in legislation (rated 65), natural, human and culture resources (rated 62) and disadvantage in business area and infrastructures (rated 96). Armenia is attractive in sense due to high sanitary and hygiene conditions, the security of tourists and the native people's welcome for them, as well as suitable prices. Armenia's competitiveness mainly suffers from visa regime with the states whose citizens go touring most frequently, problems with nature protection, lack of local air and vehicle transportation infrastructures, etc. On the other hand Armenia is rated first by elementary education level and the last by naval port infrastructures. Takoush
I actually thought both commercials were different and but short, sweet and to the point. Pretty good commercials. Now all we want is to increase these commercials and continue to publicize about our country as well as our culture. Good job.
Arpa
I like neither of them. If one is to follow commercials on CNN one would see ads by the Turkish chamber of commerce every 5 minutes, if not sooner that ends with “Come Home” or some such silliness. The tune is very catchy, not Turkish that I know of. They show everything between sunny beaches, Roman, Byzantian and Christian archeological sites, mainly dwelling on pictures of Nemrut. Not even a hint of Islamic heritage or a picture of a mosque, of course, they are cautious to not turn off the Christian world. You wait and see. Pretty soon they will add pictures of Aghtamar. And.. What do we do? Wall to wall khachkars and ruined churches, not to forget choir boys and priests. When is the last time you saw touristic ads about Egypt showing mosques, or Greeks showing churches? Who are we advertising to with pictures of ruined churches, crosses and priests? Are we doing any better than the Turks who will soon start advertising Aghtamar mainly directed to idiotic Armenian diasporans who melt at the sight of a ruined church? If we don’t have anything better than a few ruined churches and broken khachkars to show to the world, we’d better SHUT UP. They are playing music from AK’s Gayane. Where are the pictures of the ballet, specially that world renown tune that is played a hundred times a minute all over the world.. The Sabre Dance? Can we get off this church and khachkar bizzziness already? Who is interested? Except those moronic diasporans and natives who go to church three times in their lifettime. Once at baptism they don't remember, at the wedding where they couldn't care less, and at their funeral that they can't even participate! Reminds one of the story of the town dtunk who, when asked how often he went to the local bar, answers; "Uuuh... let me see... once ... or twice a day?" And when asked, hos often to church, he answers" Ever Easter, every Easter, ever Easter.. Amen Zatik, amen Zatik, amen Zatik!!! :goof: We want to show thw world how Christian we are? Didn't they know that in 1915? Edited March 27, 2007 by Arpa
Zartonk
Except those moronic diasporans and natives who go to church three times in their lifettime. Once at baptism they don't remember, at the wedding where they couldn't care less, and at their funeral that they can't even participate! One time the Roman Catholic, the Protestant and the Armenian Churches find that their churches have been infested by rats. After panicking a little, they all come up with solution. The Catholics torture the rodents away. The Protestants can't come to an agreement with the rats, and so the rats split and form a new denomination. Finally, The Armenians baptizes the rats so they only show up three a year- on Christmas, Easter and the week of April 24th.
