  1. Westwood, from what I have heard, is not what it was 20 years ago. There were hundred of restaurants, many movie theatres, small bookstores and lots of gorgeous women walking around. Has it bounced back from it's slump years, I don't know.
  2. Only in LA do upscale neighborhoods border dangerous neighborhoods. Only in LA do people "live in their cars" and only walk from their car to their home and from their car to their office. Santa Monica Promenade and Old Pasadena have replaced Westwood, which was once a wonderful place to walk around and shop, eat, etc. I have been to many cities around the world. My informed analysis is "LA SUCKS." Yerevan was more livable than LA when I visited there in the middle of the blackouts. LA is the "***hole" of America.
  3. Azat, I guess that things change. However, I can't see that the northern upscale part of Glendale that I know nor the downtown, for that matter, could have deteriorated that much lately.
  4. I had dreamed all my life to go to Hollywood and Vine, the glamorous crossroads of Los Angeles. What I found there was not what the media had depicted, but a district in utter decay with prostitutes and transvestites frequenting the streets. The essence of Los Angeles was not the bevy of beautiful starlets I had seen on Baywatch, but a 26-mile long underpriviledged area that stetched from downtown to Long Beach. The San Fernando valley was a mix of luxury housing and run-down walk ups. There were many days that we could not even see the building across the street from my office building downtown since the smog was very bad. You didn't want to live east of the downtown because the smog was worse there, so you would try to live west of the downtown. This meant driving to work with the sun in your eyes in both directions. The women in LA were very shallow, even the Armenians. I was asked by many women whether I was a studio exective. When I answered "no," they literally walked away. Glendale is a nice little town, but the south end where the poorer Armenians live is not too good. The eshegs there drive BMW's and Mercedes but live in substandard housing. Reminds me of the Blacks I grew up with some years back.
  5. The Turks are "Opening up a can of worms." The more publicity this gets in Europe the better. They think that what they have been brainwashed is the truth. The more of a magnifying glass that they put upon the Turkish Hitler, the better. The more they do, the quicker they will sink into the quicksand. They are doing us a great favor. Perhaps the life of Tehlkirian will be made into a movie. It would be great If a re-enactment of the court proceedings that freed Tehlirian were disseminated to the WORLD.
  6. Arpa, To paraphrase Ronald Reagan "There you go again." I am not a Turk (Khoja), Anglo (Smith) or a Jew (Stein). I am almost 100% Armenian. So, if I don't buy the standard Armenian line, then you do not consider me to be an Armenian? I have no doubt that the Neocons that work for Bush have every intention of invading Iran. It will not be "Moshes" and "Avrams" who invade Tehran, but thousands of American GIs, who come mainly from poor white neighborhods in the Southern US, as well as, from underpriviledged Black and Hispanic neighborhoods throughout the US. As for the Arabs who saved us during the Genocide, they are now on a collision course with the US. Can we afford to be one sided now? If the Turks can play the double-sided game that they play, so can we.
  7. Arpa, You talking about Haleb? Arpa, I don't think that Tel Aviv will have the fate you refer to. Iran will soon be invaded. I predict this before the end of 2006. Syria will be next if she doesn't change her policies. Bush, the darling of so many of the conservative (read: church-going) Armenians wants to make a clean-sweep before his term ends. We sealed our fate when our nobles annihilated the Paulicians and Tondrakians. This serious reduction of Armenians greatly weakened our numbers (the remnants fled to the Balkans and to areas of present-day France) and opened us up to invasion.
  8. Arpa, You forgot Tel Aviv. Vaspurakantzis and Tigranagertzis (who now consider themselves Armenian Christians) going back to claim their ancestral lands from which Tigran the Great exhiled them. Just like Shah Abbas forcefully exhiled us from the historical Julfa. Why do you think that there is a Nor Julfa? We kept our faith in the land we were exhiled to. The Jews in Armenia became enamored with the faith established by "one of their most itelligent boys." As they assimilated, they forgot their roots as the centuries passed.
  9. Armenian white supremacists are similar to Jewish white supremacists. A joke. It is a real disconnect. Armenians are only borderline white and many of us clearly display Semitic (Jew and Arab), East Asian and even African attributes. Just go to a large Armenian social event and take a close look around.
  10. This is a canard. Evans is not being replaced. State Department as categorically denied this is going to happen.
  11. Azat, Living in LA has made you a bitter young man, as it did to me. After years of living with LA floozies who only think of money, I left that miserable place. LA is a city with a sick culture. Few find happiness there. Every chick is looking for a man with movie-star looks or a millionaire. Where I am now the women find me attractive and my white-collar job makes me a good prospect. In LA I was considered dirt.
  12. To the Azeris, we are the children of pigs and monkeys. so to them the death of this young Armenian on the front means nothing. Why would they care about snuffing out this life by firing during a truce when Safarov, a killer in cold blood, is a national hero in Azerbaijan? name='anoushik' date='Mar 5 2006, 12:47 AM' post='164814'] Born in 1987??? That's a horrible thing to read. He was so young
  13. Yes, they created a new chapter in case law. I heard about another recent case going back 140 years.
  14. These cases sprung from Vartkes Yeghiayan's astute perceptions and relentless pursuit of justice. They have opened the floodgates of case law toward recompense from those who made a windfall from our misery. The effects of the Genocide reached far beyond the confines of the Ottoman Empire and continue today. A majority of us were lost to the sword, starvation, etc. and the few who miraculously survived were scattered to the ends of the earth.
  15. You are so correct, Emil. Fear of death comes from ignorance. Death comes only to the "vessel," not the consciousness. What is so great about this stinking dimension where God tests us constantly? Have any of you ever realized that Hell is where you are right now?
  16. Nevertheless, they are a tourist draw especially for tourists from Europe. Are we Armenians schizophrenic? Many of us (e.g. Artaxias and that nut Avetisyan) claim vociferously that we are Europeans (a distorted concept since we have Hebrew, Assyrian, Persian, Chinese, Mongol and Hindu genetic strains and a mixed culture). Turning Yerevan into cookie-cutter city will not help our tourism. What is next? Demolishing the Matenadaran building or Opera House to make big-bucks for a developer buddy of the President Kocharian hoping to build another luxury condominium or hotel?
  17. Here are that discuss his ex-wife, Kris Houghton Kardashian Jenner. I wonder what ethnic combination she is, since she looks Armenian or Southern European. http://www.armeniapedia.org/index.php?titl...bert_Kardashian http://www.brucejenner.com/krisjenner.html
  18. Did William Jefferson Clinton really sign this petition? Wasn't he the guy that Hastert blamed the October 2000 fiasco on, while secretly being on the take from the Turkish government?
  19. Not removed from my reality. My brother divorced his Jewish wife and married a Portuguese.
  20. Verginne, You have a very distorted perception of Jews. They know all about our suffering. Their lack of support for us is based upon their "covering their backs" by unequivocally supporting Turkey. I suspect that will soon change. Except for a few maniacs like Avetisyan, there is no general anti-Semitism in Armenia. This is not the situation brewing in Turkey. I do not think that the Turkey-Israel alliance will last. The Turkish chameleon will change its spots again and return to its instinctive behaviors.
  21. Rule Britannia, Britannia Rules the World!! This is the arrogant attitude that creates fiascos such as the sending of Gulbenkian's treasures to Portugal. Knuckleheads! Restore the Royal House of Stewart to the British throne and depose the usurpers who arranged the assassination of the part-Armenian princess Diana.
  22. A "he" or a "she." "Armena" is a "she" name. Yet, perhaps really a "he" as is the case, I believe, with "Anoush."
  23. I have to pack my books as I am moving into a bigger place. I will list the remaining books as I pack them tomorrow. I have hundreds of books. Have to study for an upcoming exam right now. Us tzeroogs have to work full time while going to school. Too much effort for an old man.
