nairi
Nakharar, is that Calcutta?
Stormig
That would have been my first guess too! Nakharar gave me some under-the-table hints, but I'm not up to the job of searching architects who have left their signs in cities.
Stormig
Nakharar, is that Calcutta? It's somewhere in Europe. Too neat and tidy, for one thing. <_<
Anileve
Nakharar, don’t give it away yet. The whole view is breathtaking in that photo. The onion domes are very confusing, can be anything from a Russian Orthodox to Greek Orthodox churches. The street has more of a perhaps renaissance architecture but then there is this Art Nouveau building which is fascinating. I was thinking maybe St. Petersburg, Kiev or perhaps Amsterdam, Vienna or even Germany. It’s driving me nuts. EDIT: Sorry mixed up names. Nakharar
Anileve, you rock girl! I like your thinking. Keep going.
Anileve
Biblioteca Nacional? In Madrid? I'm not sure... Actually Vavushka, you guessed the city correctly but not the name of the library. I think Azat would know this one. The library is located in this palace.
Anileve
Anileve, you rock girl! I like your thinking. Keep going. Well I have a few cities down, now I only have a few thousand to go... Can you give a microscopic hint? Something very remote, very subtle.
Nakharar
Is it the El Escorial Palace by any chance?
Anileve
Is it the El Escorial Palace by any chance? Really now, did you have to guess it so fast? I mean while I am struggling and dodging any sort of work I must complete looking for onion bulbs. At least you could have made me feel better and guessed it in 10 minutes. Nakharar
How can I help it if I have been there? At least you are on to something unlike some others around here who are waaay lost. I'm still curious about the connection between onions and Calcutta.
nairi
Hey Nakharar: do a kick google search. Hmm, don't think it's Holland. Then again I haven't been everywhere in Holland, thank god perhaps. But if it has to be in the area, then I would guess Belgium. That could welll be a street in Brussels.
Nakharar
Hint: Think of cities where archtiects have left a distinct mark. Eg. Gaudi in Barcelona, Horta in Brussels.
Anileve
I am thinking Eastern Europe...Prague. Dangit! I am obsessed, what have you done to me Nakharar? I am doomed and so is my work. Must... find out the building...

nairi
Hmm.. You should know.. You've mentioned it a few times recently on other threads. Other hints later.
Stormig
How am I supposed to tell something from some guy's Adam's apple?? Well, let's see. The rock looks limestone-derived. That's as far as I can get.
nairi
I know! I can't show you another picture as it will give it away... The question is: what is he doing? Like, why is he in the position he's in? If you've been there, or you know about it, you might have a better idea.
Stormig
Abseiling in Cappadocia?
nairi
Nope. Where did you mention abseiling recently?
Stormig
You're right, I didn't. But then I didn't mention climbing either. :-\
nairi
You didn't mention having been there. Â Clue 2: it's not a rock, but something between two walls of stone. And you only need to climb stairs to get there.
Stormig
Should I be ashamed of myself?
nairi
Don't know Nah. I guess the picture really is too vague, although I think someone who's been there recently would recognize it. Clue 3: "gift of the gab".
