Stormig
300 Spartans - never seen so many six-packs together, good eye candy, good visuals, but I felt giddy about the way they showed ancient Persians as towel-heads and Xerxes as a gigantic transsexual who had just had had a permanent cosmetic eyebrow procedure and the most absurd of piercings, among other things such as the nauseating "You see, I am kind"... Leonidas looked like he had jumped out of a computer game, much like the setting itself did. Still it felt like Braveheart, in some places, the series Rome in others (the intrigue within political circles)... And then I absolutely hated the "Athenians are boy-lovers"... What BS. Spartans are known for having practiced military pederasty. It is historical fact. 'Nuff said.

I loved it, mindless bliss, but it was pure fiction.

Nané
Eastern Promises A very interesting movie about Russian Mafia in London. The special features give a lot of interesting information about the tatoos (and the symbolism) of "vor zakoni." Nané
Some more recent watches: "No Country For Old Men" In my opinion did not deserve that Oscar. The only thing wonderful about the movie was Bardem's performance. He is one of the greatest actors of our times. If you have not seen "The Sea Inside" you definately should watch it. The Oscar it received was very well deserved. "Mrs. Brown" Netflix synopsis: "Grieving widow Queen Victoria (played imperiously by Judi Dench) withdraws into sadness for years, until plainspoken manservant John Brown (Billy Connolly) disrupts her mourning. Their friendship grows, resulting in personal and political ramifications for both. Funny, exquisitely shot and featuring sparkling performances, Mrs. Brown brilliantly portrays the woman behind an empire and the man who helped her live again." It was not that great but Dench's performance was immensely enjoyable.

And I was hassling her for her overly dramatic new SN. Sorry babe! Makes much more sens now. Thank you Em jan, I thought so. I like Zabel Yesayan very much, she was one of our dynamic Armenian women writers of the 19th/20th century. I thought so as Ani writes a lot of Armenian poetries and having come from Armenia herself. I saw earlier you prompting her to somehow legalize her writings and I agree with you. She should do it right away. She writes well and a good deal and she must do it before some others copy her own works! Edited March 28, 2008 by Takoush
