Arpa
style_images/master/snapback.png Which god? Do you mean "jewhovah" or Aramazt? If you say Aramazt is fictitious then read the following. All the moo-doo that "book of lies" has fed us. And we have savored it!! Below excerpts. Read the whole article before responding. Orthodox Jews consider it a sin? There has never been a smellier bullshit!! We have to create a new and improved god, from us, by us and for us. Ask Siamanto. Read his poem about anahit. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5787665/site/newsweek/ Newsweek But the issue is more complicated for Jews. graves, but Dever, the American scholar, suspects the issue of Jewish graves is hiding a more serious agenda: "They don't want scientific investigation," he charges, "because they're afraid it will prove their patriarchal stories aren't historical." And, in fact, current scholarship is not especially congenial to Old Testament literalists. There is, essentially, no evidence for the existence of Abraham and the other patriarchs, and—despite more than a century of intensive study of Pharaonic Egypt—only the barest wisps of support for the Exodus, the central event in Jewish theology. There are accounts of Egyptian raids into Palestine that brought back captives, presumably as slaves, and a dispatch from a border guard in the early 12th century B.C., reporting that two people had escaped from Egypt into the Sinai. On the basis of what has been found so far, "there was no Exodus, at least not of hundreds of thousands of people making a miraculous escape across the desert," Dever says. "And there was no conquest" of the land of Canaan by Joshua. "There are several chapters in Joshua on Jericho," says Carol Meyers, a professor of Biblical studies at Duke, "but Jericho wasn't even inhabited at the time." Some things do check out: an Egyptian artifact, the Merneptah stele, refers to a victory
jgm1975
The problem with the question "God exists?" is that people often confuse spirituality and religion. As a personal opinion, I always considered religion as a caricature of spirituality, as man's definition of God. Religion tries to put human attributes to the divine realm. So naturally when religion is discredited and exposed for what it is, namely a collection of unreal myths, dogma and pointless rituals, people also assume that God is fake as well. The fact is that both religion and atheism, in my view, have serious flaws. People often lose sight of the third way, namely a simple and basic belief in that unknown and invisible force/energy/substance that regulates the endless cycle of life and death and is there to explain things that sometimes science can not explain. For example, the Earth is nothing but a tiny grain of sand in the endless expanses of the universe. Yet life developed here for some reason. Certainly the big bang had something to do with, but who created the big bang? Also, if the Earth's axis was tilted just a fraction towards the equator or towards the poles, life would be impossible because winters would be too cold and summers too hot. Yet somehow the Earth is tailored-made to sustain life. And in my opinion, I do not think that all of this is the result of a 1 in a gazillion coincidence. I have reflected more on this and you can read more of it if you want: http://www.geocities.com/jgm1975/Spirit.htm Keep in mind that these are only opinions. I do not claim to possess the truth. Only God owns the truth. Edited August 30, 2004 by jgm1975
Ludwig9
Arpa have you read the writings of Isreal Sahak or Yair Auron ? And yes Arpa, Armenians were monotheists before they became Christian. Before Einstein died, he was working on the GUT theory (Grand Unified Theory), in which all the formulas in the sciences was derived from one formula. I call it absolute mathematics and absolute physics. My theory states that there is an exact science to life, everything in the universe is from an absolute and exact measurement. I also believe that God is the originator of these formulas, life and the universe.

It has to do with the 4 foundamental interactions(now there is a 5th). But he could not accept Quantum mechanistic reality of the microworld which seemed to contradict with the macroworld and his relativity concept. As for Absolute "mathematic" this is ironic at best. To be an absolute, there must be a non-absolute... but Mathematic is already pure, the purest form of all... And no, Armenians were not monotheists before they became Christians. DominO123
Certainly the big bang had something to do with, but who created the big bang? The Big Bang was "created" by Quantum inflation in a vaccum bubble or from the collision between other universes that the "strings" for a moment didn't respected the path they had to take in their 11 dimention universes. But of course this doesn't exclude a god. Some crackpot scientists might have created this universe in a lab, or the universe might very well be the result of a simulation by a Quantum computer. But of course, since there are infinit universes, the existance of a god is probably the rules in many of them... What percentage roughly would have the Christian God versus Allah or Buddah - all of the above versus none - etc etc....? style_images/master/snapback.png I'll try to answer this question based on my opinion. First, the Buddha is not a "God". In fact, Buddhism is more of a philosophy than a religion. According to Buddhism, everyone can attain the status of a Buddha through enlightened. Next, the "Christian" God and "Allah" are nothing but human concepts and inventions, an attempt to place human attributes on the spiritual world. God is not some being sitting somewhere in the clouds. God is a form of substance/energy/force that is omnipotent and omnipresent. It is everywhere at the same time, including inside human beings. But it is invisible. I prefer to use the term "Divine Spirit" rather than "God", but that is just my opinion. Ultimately though, nametags mean nothing. God is greater than any linguistic designations. So I would say that we have the same "God" everywhere.

Ludwig9
According to Buddhism, everyone can attain the status of a Buddha through enlightened. Oh yes through enlightenment, which the Buddhist obtains and, if the path to enlightenment is different then your path to enlightenment then, you get the wonderful idea of - "my kungfu is better than yours" philosophy. :Fu_Manchu: HAYAAAAAAAAA Next, the "Christian" God and "Allah" are nothing but human concepts and inventions, an attempt to place human attributes on the spiritual world. That does not exclude me as human! But basically the word God is simply a reference to the creator, the divine one.

So I may be about 80% right, 90% right, or even 100% wrong. Also, I will argue that you do know about this being as well. When you feel connected to other humans because of an affection that you have for them, you are letting the divine spark in you be in contact with the divine spark in others. When you hesitate to do something because you feel that it might be morally or ethically wrong, you are experiencing the Divine Spirit. You might not realize it, but you know God as much as I do. And this applies to everyone, unless of course someone is filled with hate. Edited August 31, 2004 by jgm1975
Ludwig9
Actually I never did claim to “know” anything. Well..........if your stating that only God knows the truth then..........that would be a type of a claim right ? Because for you God only knows the truth. Then how do you know that God only knows truth ? Also, I will argue that you do know about this being as well. I agree, I believe in God. I also believe Christ to be the Son of God and my Lord and Savior. You might not realize it, but you know God as much as I do. Hmm.........honestly, I cannot know how much of God you know. But when we continue this discussion we will learn about each others beliefs.

If you cannot respect other religions then your religion/religious belief is not deserving of respect. And those who damn others to eternal damnation in hell because they [we] do not believe as they do are not showing any respect at all IMO - so I say - "get your jesus off my penis!" And jgm1975 - I hear you - and this is fine for you..but in reality does not at all (adequatly) answer the (my) question...and it is purely opinion on your part - as you admit - and not knowledge...how do you know that this god doesn't sit up on some cloud and have a long white beard, or is the great judge of men, or perhaps loves hell best of all - or what have you? Why is your version any better then anyone elses? And how can you at all lay out this topography of the godhood with only complete speculation to guide you? And Domino - thank you - confirms my claim/belief - that with infinite possibilities we are unable to reach any conclusions whatsoever - and the chance of any one version being true is in effect infinitely small - in the face of all the infinte possibilities that it is otherwise. And this is my belief....lol
THOTH
But basically the word God is simply a reference to the creator, the divine one. style_images/master/snapback.png Would you still worship this being if he/she looked something like a praying mantis that smelled funny and who took glee in watching star system explode (and all life in proximity with them)...and lets say the creator is also the destroyer, or is a being (or group of beings) that exist out of time (our dimensional understadning)..etc - how do we relate to these beings? Do they really care if you bugger another guy? And how are we to know any of these things? And does it really matter? What if the creator(s) are bacteria like beings or something totally alien and unknown with plans that do not at all coincide with any aspirations we humans might have - maybe we are just hosts - or maybe we are only in existance to develop machines and the next stage of evolution - synthetic/machine beings...etc etc - or maybe there is no plan - or creator/creators as we might know/understand - maybe we are just makig it happen as we go...or maybe....or maybe...or maybe...etc

If you cannot respect other religions then your religion/religious belief is not deserving of respect. Wait a minute, you go God bashing on other threads and that is OK. But, when I make a comment on a statement that goes against my beliefs then I am being disrespectful. And about me damning people to Hell, I am not the judge, God is the Judge. I sincerely apologize if anyone thinks that I am damning people to Hell.
