Some of them have bigger tail wings than a 747 LOL - yeah perhaps thats the new version. I've always preferred small cars (just /my preference)...my Audi is really as big of a car I would ever want - I like the manueverability..and being able to park most anywhere - another reason I miss driving my MR2...could get that thing into about any spot... Sip Posted October 29, 2003 Report Share Posted October 29, 2003 Talking of parking ... a few years ago at UCLA ... the stalls are really small there and parking is very hard to find usually. Anyway, I was driving around and spotted an empty slot from far away. I gun the engine trying to get to it but a chinese guy in a honda was already there trying to get in. Anyway, he tried and tried and it was obvious he wasn't going to fit .. there were two huge SUVs parked not exactly in the middle of their slots which made that slot unusable. He could go in, but there was NO way he could open any of the doors. Anyway, I waited for him to give up and as he left, I pulled in the slot screaching my rear wheels in joy!!!! Parked the blazer. Locked the doors, and got out through the back!!!! Actually both my blazers are surprisingly small and agile. They are tall and have a lot of ground clearance ... but the body is narrow and short since it's only 2 door and only has room for 4 people inside. The body is so narrow that the normal (neutral) wheels stick out... from factory they put on positively offset wheels. Anyway, I've done that many times ... also having all the offroading experience really helps in in getting the trucks to fit in places that most people dare not even dream of. I am not a particularly fast driver, but I can park these guys into slots about the same size as the vehicle itself .. no matter from which direction I approach the slot. The wheel base is incredibly short and especially with no top and doors you can squeeze it in and out of amazingly tight places .. and I love doing tight switchbacks up narrow hills especially squeezing between trees ... one small slip and you got a giant dent on the side Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
THOTH Posted October 29, 2003 Report Share Posted October 29, 2003 Its funny how my car is actually very subtly done - and even with the modded exhaust is quite tame sounding (until I floor it!) - but all the car folks - the rice modders, big blockers etc etc - seem to notice it - I think its the wheels and the fat exhaust...(Its those soccer moms & drivers of mid level - somewhat quick - but not nearly as they think - who have no idea what hit them...when they try to drag to a light etc - LOL)...I even get thumbs up from speedbikers - got on just today in fact. While I understand the utility of the spoilers - they really only help when driving at upper speeds - so good for the track. Sure some of these guys track their caars and drive them such...but most I think just do it for the look (which is sometimes cool - but often is overdone) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Porsche usually does very functional and cool looking spoilers ... especially on the 911 line. I was reading the specs on the new 911 GT that's supposed to hit the US and it can use the spoiler as a break assist. THOTH Posted October 29, 2003 Report Share Posted October 29, 2003 Accel - no biggie - just think that when your the age that you are you ought to be doing it...like nearly all the time...(and not just with yourself) LOL (There are also so many benefits/joys to having - being with someone that you care about and vice versa - and adventures to be had - things to learn, do and see together) - etc...thats just what I think...and its not like i don't feel that way now (about all the preceeding...)...and for the most part can't complain (& still fully functional & all & married life certainly does have some benefits..)...but having almost died 2 years ago - I certainly feel like life and/or health can end at any time...so you figure it out... But don't hold your breath, because the legendary all-wheel-drive coupe won't arrive in showrooms until at least late 2007 or 2008.Speaking at the Tokyo Motor Show last week, Nissan president and chief executive Carlos Ghosn said the all-new GT-R would be displayed at the 2007 show. The day before, Nissan Australia managing director Leon Daphne had said he would take the GT-R if it became available. "The day Mr Ghosn announces the GT-R, we'll have our hand up for it," he said. "It has a brand power of its own, and in terms of performance and image is every bit a (Porsche) 911." But he warned that the GT-R would not come cheap -- think something above $150,000. "The GT-R would be terrific for the image, but it would be very expensive," Daphne said, predicting that probably only about 50 a year would be sold in Australia. Australia was the only country outside Japan to get the original GT-R. Just 100 were imported here in the early 1990s, selling on the image of a V8-crushing racing pedigree and two Bathurst 1000 victories that even prompted a change in the rules. Since then, many have been privately imported. But Ghosn was adamant that the GT-R would be sold globally to boost Nissan's image, which, at least in Australia, relies largely on 4WDs and the Pulsar small cars. He said the GT-R "will be a world car . . . which means it will be sold in Europe, the United States, everywhere". Nissan executives would not elaborate on the details of the new GT-R, although it appears certain the classic in-line turbocharged six-cylinder will not continue. Instead, Drive understands there will be the choice of two engines, with the adoption of a naturally aspirated V8 increasing its appeal as a global car and helping it meet, as one insider put it, "US emissions issues". There will also be a twin-turbocharged six-cylinder (possibly a 3.2-litre capacity) version, although it is expected to be configured as a V rather than the more traditional in-line set-up of earlier GT-Rs. One thing is certain: the GT-R will surpass the self-imposed 206kW Japanese power limit, instead forging closer to 350kW and giving it the sort of performance it will need to compete with the likes of Porsche and Ferrari. All-wheel-drive and four-wheel steering also look certain, providing the GT-R with the all-weather traction and dynamics that helped define its image. From a styling perspective, Nissan is said to be finalising the car's basic direction, although reports suggest it won't look like the concept shown in Tokyo two years ago. In the meantime, Daphne has been looking at ways to expand the Nissan line-up locally, with more passenger vehicles high on the agenda. He is keen to get the Skyline coupe, which comes with a punchy 3.5-litre V6 powering the rear wheels. "The Skyline coupe is an image performance car that would be good for the brand," he said. "We'd like to make a decision in the next six months." He dismissed the Skyline sedan as a chance for Australian buyers, but said the Murano luxury 4WD was a possibility, and would sell for about $60,000. Currently only built in left-hand drive for the US market, Nissan Australia was keen to adopt it locally to take advantage of the never-ending popularity of off-roaders. I actually did the Rubicon trail with it (the Jeep is named after it) and it did amazingly well mostly stock. I added a couple of extra protection items like skid plates and rock gurads but it was basically stock. Other than a dented front fender and bumpers, and some minor scrapes I had no damage at all. It did great. I'm sure I've posted pics of it here before. Jeep crawled right over it. But you can see how much trouble a blazer can end up in (that's a week after a buddy and I pre-ran to check the trail for this big blazer/Land Rover group)! Of course that's also driver error. Fortunately I have no such worries with the blazer and the jeep really doesn't have much body anyway. But the step bars I have on the blazer really helps me out. Not only does it protect the lower body panels, it also prevents people from smashing their doors into mine ... the door would hit those bars before the body. My dad wants to get a 4WD soon, hes been really keen since he went fishing with his buddies a few times...but there is only so far his truck (rear drive) can go....so yeah prob next year hes gonna get a toyota hilux SR5 (4WD) or maybe a landcruiser, but I think I have convinced him not too get the latter coz its just too big, thirsty and wont be as good off road as the SR5. My dad is driving it since he needed a car I let him keep it for now. I only have my blazer here with me. I don't have the old one anymore. I'm going to save up some money in the next year or so and hopefully start some major projects on the JEEP. It's going to be my project vehicle from now on. That's why I also need to learn how to weld since some of the modifications may require welding. I think after I'm done with the blazer (maybe another 2 or 3 years) I may want to go with a sports car for a change. I'll have the jeep for offroading so my primary car can be something more fun.
