Because Լիբանանցի implies a person from Lebanon (usually a Lebanese Arab) and is not specific to an Armenian. Hence you need to say Լիբանանահայ to make the distinction.

In the case of Armenia, Հայաստանցի means a person from Armenia (same as Լիբանանցի implying a person from Lebanon). Since we know that only Armenians (99.9%) live in Armenia, we don't need to make the distinction between non-Armenian citizens of Armenia vs. Armenian ones.

Shahan,

this kind of mentality is going to hurt you the most unfortunately. I know it's hard to understand but just trust me. You already alienated people here and that only really hurts you. Please stop this kind of thinking.

Umm... This isn't about me. This is about the rowdy Armenian youth from Armenia.

You can't fight nature. It is what it is. I speak what I see and don't try to hide the truth. Real people are being affected by the actions of this large group of imbeciles.

Since their arrival in the 1990s, the Armenians' image in the eyes of locals (Americans) has reached below surface level, especially in the east Los Angeles county (including Glendale, as opposed to west side and the Valley) where their concentration is higher. It's become so bad that I know many diasporan Armenians who don't want to associate with their Armenian side because locals can't distinguish between the different sub-subcultures among Armenians... (Yes, sub-cultures DO exist among Armenians.)

Shahan, come on, you're exaggerating a bit.

And as long as we're talking about success in education, I want to boast about mine as well :) I came to this country at 14 in February, was put in the Freshman class (even though the previous semester I'd been an eight-grader in Sweden) and managed to graduate with my class. I longed to take AP courses (what I love about the American education, you can pick and choose according to your goals) I only succeeded to take Honors Econ and Government in Senior year because I had so much to catch up to, including getting into regular English class during my Junior year, as opposed ESL class. And thanks to the community college system, I transferred and graduated from USC. I also plan to apply to grad school this fall. I love the American education, and I hate when people, whose kids have never done good in school, pick apart and criticize the American school system. Shahan, I don't know anything about you or your education. You might be very educated and have college degrees, but in my experience Armenians who've earned college degrees in the U.S. never bad-mouth the education system.

.. , maybe someone will realize how ridiculous their phonetics is.

Well for the record (referring to many other such discussions), I respect the phonetics and recognize it as a legitimate dialect. I just don't think it's "Armenian". :)

I cannot believe that the term “stantsi” was used here. I thought we had more respect for our own kind. But I am not shocked. I deal with this “segregation issue” on a daily basis at work in Glendale. In a mix of Persian/ Lebanese/Syrian-Armenians, I am a “stantsi”. When I was just newly hired and out with the big bosses having lunch at Raffi’s Kabob, a non-Armenian ex-employee came to greet the group. I was introduced to her by my boss and he jokingly stated..”She is stantsi, but one of the good ones”. Suffice to say, I was offended. And it did not stop there....

When this hit and run issue came up in the office, we all knew the driver was going to be found to be Armenian. And they added that he was “stantsi” for sure. I was so infuriated and saddened by the fact that it was another Armenian making this comment.

And Movses is right, even though our youth are not angels. The GPD hates us. They practice racial profiling and even let you know that you were pulled over because they suspected that you were Armenian. The tension is surmounting. Officer Balian & Co. have drawn their weapons and are taking no pisoners.

If you want to know how despised we are, just read the editorial/ opinion letters sent to Glendale News Press from fellow Persian/ Lebanese/Syrian-Armenians disparaging on their Hayastanci counterparts. If we hate each other so much, why do we expect the otars to accept and befriend us?

Very distasteful indeed, Shahan.

It should go without saying that Ara should have stopped and tried to help or call for help. Most human beings would do more for a stray cat or dog they ran over. I feel so awful for the family. But we have all been behind the wheel and made a foolish attmpt or move that could have ended disasterously. Afterward, you pray and thank God it did not end badly. And many of us have been on the receiving end of the same scenario where a young kid almost rammed into our car. But all things aside, how fast and reckless was he driving to be able to throw someone a 100 feet away from point of impact? I hope she went instantly and did not suffer.

I will respectfully disagree with the license plate issue brought up..but must go to lunch first.

for those who fret that the Armenian youth has gone mad...I do agree there is terrible racial profiling by GPD (aka Nazis)

from this source: http://www.onlinelawyersource.com/criminal...r-accident.html

Hit and Run Car Accident

A hit and run car accident can be a devastating event for the victims of these crimes. National government statistics indicate that approximately eleven percent of all vehicle accidents are hit and run car accidents. This equates to nearly 700,000 hit and run car accident cases each year in the United States. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the hit and run car accident rate has increased by fifteen percent since 1998 nationwide. In some states, like California, the rate of increase for hit and run car accident cases is even greater.

When I posted updates on this incident, I thought this is an Armenian forum and WE are talking about the terrible loss that two families had as a result of recklessness…

I was shocked to see that someone can point fingers and make it a racial issue…I mean, it is absurd, but Shahan in fact is a racist against his own race….

My father is born in Yerevan in a family that emigrated from Greece in 1945…My mother’s family is Yerevantsi for many generations…

It took me years trying to understand what label I have on me…

Am I a “texaci”? Am I an “axpar”?...Or I am a terrible mix of two? How can a “texaci” marry an “axpar”…

An now in LA I became a “Stantsi”… Great!!!

Mosjan You are Right…Gayli glxin avetaran karda kasi hot@ sar@ batcracav…

And Shahan if you feel closer to Americans or locals by putting your own race down (o, iam sorry only the ones that came to US after 90’s) You Will Not Succeed…

Em, I brought up the license plate issue, I would like to know what you have against it respectfully…

First it became uncool to be driving a German car (i.e., BM, Mercedez, Audi), next it was a titizakan* thing to tint the windows of your vehicle. Now, you cannot have specialized plates since it means your are trying to be cool and think you’re somebody important. Why must everything be scrutinized and labeled as wrong just because a group of young kids do it? Why is it so taboo for a jahel to strive and work hard to drive a nice car and fix it up to look nice?

In Glendale, if you are a Hayastanci and have a nice car it must mean you are either defrauding the gov’t or you are selling drugs. The fact that these young kids are the work force of the city and generated income for it is irrelevant. If they want to spend 50% of monthly income on leasing a H2, who is Officer Balian to question that? When did the authority of “police power” extend to personal rights and liberties?

Ani jan, you know that I grew up here. I have no idea about what the specialized license plates signified in Armenia, but I know over here it is an expression of individuality. Sure it draws attention, but I don’t believe it contributes to the recklessness of youth. He could have been driving a ‘94 Accord with generic plates.

There is an otar dentist in Glendale driving a yellow Porsche Carrera who has plates that read CYAAAAA. He is in late 50's and a Republican. (He told me). :) Obviously he is showing off and trying to have fun with car. I see no issue with it.

Em, it is very hard for me to accept that a 16-19 year old kid in Glendale is able to afford a $50K+ European luxury car by "working".

Even if we start with the H2 that you mentioned, they go for well over $50k ... let's even say the lease is $500 a month (very conservative) ... insurance can easily be over $100 a month (again very conservative) ... add gas and maintenance, a car like that easily requires over $800 a month. A kid making $10/hour must be working full time (160 hours a month) to be able to afford $800 a month with only 1/2 her income. And that's not even counting all the taxes and mandatory stuff that get taken out of paychecks ... it is more like a kid would have to be working full time and spend all she makes on a car like that and even then, it is highly suspect that she could afford it all by herself.

By the way, let's not forget the $5000 "rims", the $3000 sound system, and the $2000 navigation systems that go along as pretty much mandatory accessories that go on these cars :)

Now don't get me wrong ... if they can do it, all the power to them. God knows I have (and continue to) spend a lot on cars and boat etc ... But I sincerely hope they are getting those things through hard work and by earning things rather than either having mommy and daddy provide those or dare I say, through the "not so legit" means of acquiring wealth.
