I just had the desire to laugh out loud! "The most pernicious element is the Armenian effort to exclude from public school curriculums any teaching of the facts and arguments that would call the Armenian Genocide claim into question. There they are really trying to suppress access in the public schools." -- Bruce Fein, Associate Counsel Assembly of Turkish American Associations The most pernicious elements is the Judaic effort to exclude from any and all public venues any exposure of reality that would put the "THE HOLY HOLOCAUST" into question. Arpa
http://www.anca.org/assets/graphics/june05/time_dvd.htm After viewing this I had the desire to smash few faces! style_images/master/snapback.png Hey people! Why the sadness and long face ; http://www.roches.com/discography/whythelongface.html It is time to celebrate and rejoice. We have spoken about this before. Watch how that gobble-gobble bird/turchun is losing its feathers/peturs, running from Washington to Berlin , from NYT to Time Magazine trying to stop the damage. Ankara has never been so frazzled before. She has never before shot herself in the foot as now. Armenians massacred 3 million Turks? You wish!! By these wretched souls? http://www.armeniapedia.org/index.php?titl...Genocide_Photos Maybe we should have massacred 299,999,999 of them and left the remaining to the mercy or Gamavor. DVD and Are there any cartoonist/artists among us to prepare a parody to show how one Jew exterminated 6 million Nazis and how the Native American massacred and exterminated Anglos of America? Comedy and farce in action!!! What we need to do is prepare a totally comedic DVD and write to those publications in a totally sarcastic , ridiculing and comedic style. Do not render those whores the dignity of a civil response that they don’t deserve
hytga
Arpa goble goble or no goble goble they get their job done. We should take action not make fun of the gobleing noise. http://www.azg.am/?lang=EN&num=2005070201 ARMENIANS SHOULD TEACH TIME MAGAZINE A LESSON Armenians in the United States and Europe should launch a coordinated campaign to ensure that Time magazine would never again allow itself to be used as a tool for the dissemination of Turkish lies on the Armenian Genocide. The Ankara Chamber of Commerce had paid around $1 million to place four full-page ads and a DVD in the June 6 issue of the European edition of Time magazine which has a circulation of around 500,000 copies. The ad pages contain pictures of Greek and Armenian historical sites in Turkey. The DVD insert, which comes in a blank white wrapper and does not carry the mandatory "advertising supplement" disclosure, contains a couple of short ads on tourism and a 70-minute segment that includes dozens of distortions and vicious lies about the Armenian Genocide. It is very obvious that the real intent of the Ankara Chamber of Commerce, and most probably that of the Turkish government hiding behind it, was not so much to promote tourism in Turkey, but to denigrate the Armenian Genocide. This DVD, more aptly called a piece of hate mail, starts with the following pompous declaration: "The most comprehensive documentary serial ever made on the Armenian Question in the history of [the] Turkish Republic." An indication of the extent that the Turks have gone to distort the facts of the Armenian Genocide is that they have prepared this DVD in seven languages: English, French, Turkish, German, Spanish, Arabic and Russian. The Turks claim to have conducted research in the archives of 11 countries, including Armenia. It is noteworthy that while the Turkish Prime Minister keeps repeatedly saying that Armenia must open its archives, Turkish filmmakers are inadvertently proving him wrong by stating that they have access to the Armenian archives! There are so many lies in this DVD that one does not know where to start. One would need to write an entire book to expose all of the distortions in this 70-minute DVD. The DVD accuses Armenians of committing genocide against the Turks; collaborating with the Nazis; and distorting documents, while the filmmakers themselves blatantly distort just about every fact. The DVD blames the Kurds for the Armenian killings, while claiming that Armenians were not killed. It misidentifies not only historical sites, but also well-known places, such as calling the Glendale City College, "University of Glendale," and the Turkish Embassy in Paris, "the Turkish Consulate." It calls Amb. Henry Morgenthau’s documented reports on the Armenian Genocide, "hearsay." It cunningly describes as a "published letter" the paid ad against the Armenian Genocide by some U.S. "scholars" who had received grants from the Institute of Turkish Studies which was funded by the Turkish government. It falsifies the interview of Kemal Ataturk published in the August 1, 1926 issue of the Los Angeles Examiner in which he admits that the Young Turks massacred millions of Christians in the Ottoman Empire. It identifies Albert Amateau, a Jew, as an Armenian who allegedly denies the Armenian Genocide. It wrongly identifies an unknown interviewee as Prof. Radick Martirosyan, the Rector of the Yerevan State University. It distorts the words of French parliamentarian Francois Rochebloine who said after viewing the DVD: "My words in there are taken out of context. I did not recognize myself in the way I was presented." It will not be surprising if the other interviews in the DVD are also distorted. Adding insult to injury, the narrator claims that Armenian "women and children were to be carried by carriages" during the deportations. It shamelessly states that "food was distributed, shelter was provided and field hospitals which were established by the [Ottoman] soldiers served on the way. Measures were taken for security. The Ottoman state was allocating allowances for those moving despite the dire financial situation of the state. The state orders were that those who were subject to the relocation law would be provided with housing immediately at their destinations. In addition, if necessary, those people would also be provided with food from the ration of the Ottoman soldiers at war, they would be served hot meals and meat." It is appalling that Time magazine would accept such a pack of lies as paid advertising and then have the gall to say that it is not responsible for its content. We are not talking here about depriving the Turks of their right to express their opinion. Rather, we are dealing with a clear case of false advertising, hate mail (a hate crime), and fraud (representing outright lies as facts). Time’s executives either knowingly accepted this fraudulent DVD and turned a blind eye to its contents for the sake of pocketing the $1 million ad revenue or they were negligent in verifying its contents. In either case they have an obligation to set the record straight and make amends. They should either do this voluntarily or would be compelled to do so by a court of law. The Armenian community should ask Time magazine to: 1) Publish an apology for disseminating this fraudulent DVD; 2) Issue a formal memo to all its divisions around the world not to accept this DVD as an insert (the Ankara Chamber of Commerce has announced its intention to place the same DVD in Time’s Asian and Pacific editions); 3) Issue a written warning to all its advertising executives not to accept any more ads from Turkish entities that deny the Armenian Genocide (just as they would not run an ad that denies the Jewish Holocaust and glorifies Hitler; the New York Times recently rejected an ad from Turkish organizations denying the Armenian Genocide); 4) Destroy the extra 116,000 copies of this DVD that are still in Time’s possession; 5) Agree to insert and disseminate free of charge a DVD prepared by a reputable research institute on the Armenian Genocide; 6) Donate the payment it received from the Turkish Chamber of Commerce for this ad to an Armenian charity. Should Time reject the above demands, Armenians should then: 1) Cancel their subscriptions and ads; and urge their friends and business colleagues to do likewise; 2) File lawsuits in several European countries (France, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland and Germany) where genocide denial or making statements of racial hatred is against the law; 3) Issue a public appeal for funds to pay for the legal costs of these lawsuits. The most important issue is that Armenians should not remain silent in the face of such an offensive ad. If they ignore it, they would then be encouraging the Turks to place similar offensive ads not only in other editions of Time, but also in magazines around the world. It is somewhat fortunate that the Turks chose to run this ad in the European edition of Time. Since several European countries have laws banning such hate mail, it makes it easy for Armenians to take legal action. Armenians should take advantage of this unique opportunity and make an example of Time magazine! gamavor
Speaking of the Law suit that should follow against Time Magazine-Europe, it should be brought in Strasburg as the subject matter of the case is of a legal nature and geography that could triger and involve such jurisdiction. One doesn't need to have special legislation about Armenian Genocide to seek redress and remedy for the label, verbal abuse and offensive language. Telling lies by using major news outlets is not yet publicly and legaly sanctioned activity in Europe. Time Magazine CANNOT take the 'inocent' defence of "freedom of speech'. Journalists are professionals and as such are obliged to KNOW what to publish and what not to! Plus, they should have know the difference between propaganda and information, although they are Americans (I guess that is not excuse, but I might be wrong!) Armat
Here is what I think about this affair. I think Times marketing dept. thought they scored big and rushed to collect the cash and felt too ecstatic about it to even look into the content involved. They probably just thought it was an another tourist travel info and editors did not bother to look into it either since who has time to look into something which seems clearly a tourist dvd. Now, had the Times really looked into this I am sure they would not indorsed the material however this does not excuse them from possible low suits to come which I strongly encourage. Please sometimes we overestimate managerial and control apparatus of this organizations. Remember Newsweek's stupid article about the Koran? Lot of innocent lives was lost. The reality is these people don't have the time and energy to construct deep political plans which would have involved some underground secret organization or some kind of Jewish conspiracy. Times simply made a error and too proud and too scared to admit since that could trigger a low suit but we should sue them anyway. Let them learn their lesson. Aratta-Kingdom
Six weeks ago, the Switzerland-Armenia Association (SAA) sent a letter of protest to TIME magazine expressing its "shock and disappointment" that TIME included in its European Edition (June 6, 2005 issue), as a paid ad, a Turkish DVD that denied the Armenian Genocide. As the denial of the Armenian Genocide is a criminal offense under Swiss laws, the SAA threatened TIME with legal action, unless the magazine took nine corrective steps ranging from publishing a formal apology to disseminating, at TIME's expense, a factual DVD on the Armenian Genocide, in the same seven languages as the Turkish DVD. James Kelly, the Managing Editor of TIME, responded last week to SAA's letter by stating: "We regret distributing the [Turkish] DVD as part of TIME's European edition and are very sorry for the offense it has caused. The so-called 'documentary' portion of the DVD presents a one-sided view of history that does not meet our standards for fairness and accuracy, and we would not have distributed it had we been aware of its content. Unfortunately the DVD was not adequately reviewed by anyone at TIME because it was believed to be a benign promotion piece. I can assure you that we have changed our review process and will be much more vigilant in the future. We apologize to the Armenian community, and to our readers." This is a fine letter that makes several very important points: -- It expresses regret three times in the space of a few short lines; -- It challenges the credibility of the Turkish DVD by referring to it as a "so-called 'documentary'" that is "one-sided" and not meeting TIME's "standards for fairness and accuracy"; -- It acknowledges that TIME would not have distributed the Turkish DVD had it been "aware of its content"; -- It accepts TIME's negligence by admitting that the DVD "was not adequately reviewed by anyone at TIME"; -- It pledges to be "much more vigilant," should the Turks attempt a similar ploy in the future. Clearly, this letter is an improvement over TIME's initial wholly inadequate reaction to Armenian complaints. James Geary, the editor of TIME Europe, had callously responded that the magazine was "not endorsing any political organization or cause." Mr. Kelly's letter, on the other hand, reinforces the e-mail Norman Pearlstine, the Editor-in-Chief of TIME, sent to a reader admitting that the contents of the DVD were "different from what we had been led to believe." In other words, Mr. Pearlstine acknowledged that TIME was tricked by the Turks. Despite Mr. Kelly's more understanding letter that included profuse apologies, the most critical element is still missing from his response to the Switzerland-Armenia Association. He expresses regret for TIME's dissemination of the offensive DVD; acknowledges that the Turkish DVD was one-sided, unfair and inaccurate; admits that the magazine was negligent in not reviewing the DVD; and accepts that the DVD should not have been distributed by TIME. Acknowledging its error and apologizing for it does not, however, go far enough in redressing the harm done to the psyche of the survivors of the Armenian Genocide. The Turkish DVD also tarnished the memory of the Armenian martyrs by casting doubt on the truthfulness of their agonizing eyewitness accounts. Mr. Kelly and his superiors at TIME now have an obligation to undo the damage they have caused by their negligence. They need to take the nine steps suggested by the SAA. The least TIME could do is agree to disseminate free of charge, to the same 500,000 readers that received the Turkish DVD, a new DVD that accurately portrays the facts of the Armenian Genocide. Otherwise, TIME's admission of mistakes and expression of regrets remain simply empty words devoid of any meaning and sincerity. It is too easy for TIME executives to pocket the one million dollars for circulating the Turkish hit piece and then simply tell the Armenians, "we apologize." A true apology has to be accompanied by concrete steps that include making amends to the aggrieved party -- the Armenians. Until then, Armenians worldwide should continue their boycott of TIME magazine and resort to all possible legal measures accorded to them under European genocide denial laws to seek adequate redress. Kind words alone do not compensate for the damage caused by TIME's negligent, insensitive and offensive act. Armenians should stick to their guns and make Time Magazine pay for their mistakes and redo their mistakes by creating another DVD that totally corrects Time Magazine's mistakes and does justice to our martyrs who perished from the Armenian Genocide by the hands of the then Turkish govenrment. I very much agree of The California Courier's Publisher, Harut Sassounian. We must continue to boycott Time Magazine until a new corrected DVD is published and distributed. Well said. Anileve
Actually this all too funny to me, and I'll tell you why.... 1. Time Warner CEO - Gerald Levin (Jew) 2. Executive Editor of "Time Magazine Europe" - Robert Safian (Armenian) Oy vay! It maybe very primitive on my part to say this but I find all this really ridiculous. Turkey denying genocide, Armenians proving it and refuting false allegation, back and forth, back and forth. Don't people have anything better to do? Just admit it, pay up, get it over with, enter EU and prosper. Why can't others see things my way, the world would be so much more peaceful. But I am afraid many Armenians will start seeking therapy if this happens with such ease, I mean what will they do, what will be their mission be then? There is always some strong Armenian coffee and juicy gossip about your neighbors... I guess. P.S. I am sorry to raise this from the dead and beaten, but I wonder what the reaction would be if Time advertised a DVD denying Holocaust. First of all I doubt that it would ever allow it to enter their pages, but if it did I am pretty sure that the writing and editing staff of the publication will be faxing their resumes to temp agencies. Hypocrisy is a bit nauseating at times. Edited October 14, 2005 by Anileve
Anileve
UPDATE: This excerpt is from the following site: http://www.jinfo.org/Computer_Scientists.html It notes the origin of "Safian." It can be Polish-Jewish or Armenian. Perhaps he's a Jew after all, well that makes things a little more kosher. 2. In Eye of the Hurricane: An Autobiography (World Scientific, Singapore, 1984, Chapter 1), Bellman indicates that his maternal grandmother was Jewish, but states that he suspects that his Polish-born, maternal grandfather, Samuel Saffian, was of Catholic origin, although he practiced no religion. "Saffian" is, in fact, most commonly a Jewish name and a "Samuel Saffian" from Poland, married to a Jewish woman, would most likely have been of Jewish origin. (Spelled "Safian," the name is almost exclusively Jewish. Spelled with a double "f," the name can also be German, but it is not Armenian, as Bellman implies that it may have been.) A few sentences later, he states that "I suspect also that my father was also only one-half Jewish" {emphasis added). This seems to be saying that his father was nominally Jewish. Our reading of this account is that all four of Bellman's grandparents were most probably Jewish. Perhaps if a letter or email is written it has to go directly to those two, and maybe mentioning the Holocaust analogy will grab their attention? However, you were not quick enough, because if you read my post right above, I dutifully posted the same excerpt as you did and mentioned my doubt as to the accuracy of my initial assumption. Additionally if you want to know why I was so hasty to assume that he may be Armenian this is the reason: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=safia...G=Google+Search As you can see from the above search there are several Armenians with that same last name. Aratta-Kingdom
PRESS RELEASE Armenian National Committee Eastern United States P.O. Box 1066 New York, NY 10040 Contact: Doug Geogerian Tel: 917 428 1918 Fax: 718 651 3637 E-mail: ancaer@anca.org Web: http://www.anca.org/ Time Apologizes and Prints Letter Condemnding DVD Denying Armenian Genocide Time Magazine European Edition printed a full-page letter in its October 17, 2005 edition, decrying the magazine~Rs inclusion of a DVD that included a documentary, which denied the Armenian Genocide. The letter was written by Bernard Jouanneau, the President of Memory 2000, which is described as ~Srepresentatives of . . .French organizations whose aim is to fight against racism, anti-Semitism and for the memory of the Armenian Genocide.~T Mr. Jouanneau is a leading lawyer and activist defending against anti-defamation concerning the denial of the Holocaust and the Armenian Genocide. Directly following Mr. Jouanneau~Rs letter, Time~Rs editors expressed regret for the offense caused by distributing the DVD. ~SThe so-called documentary portion of the DVD presents a one-sided view of history that does not meet our standards for fairness and accuracy, and we would not have distributed it had we been aware of its content,~T said the editors. Claiming that the DVD was not adequately reviewed, the editors announced a change in their review process to avoid such future incidents. They conclude by apologizing to the Armenian community. In his letter, Mr. Jouanneau asserts the magazine~Rs responsibility regardless of whether or not the Turkish Chamber of Commerce misled them. He says redress for distributing the DVD to 500,000 house holds across twelve European countries should include 1) disclosure of officials standards used by Time when considering the inclusion of an ad and whether a similar DVD denying the Holocaust would have been acceptable, 2) free distribution of a ~SDVD prepared by the European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy (EAFJD) regarding the history and modern-day consequences of the Armenian Genocide,~T and 3) a donation from the revenue earned from the Turkish advertisement to a nonprofit organization dedicated to informing the public about the truth of the Armenian genocide and other genocides. The letter describes in detail many of the ~Slies, racial defamation, personal defamation and historical mistakes in this DVD, which contains all the techniques of disinformation and propaganda.~T Jouanneau points out footage of Justin McCarthy, a known revisionist of the Armenian Genocide, who says that the survival of some Armenians proves that a genocide did not take place. The letter strongly objected to the characterization of all Armenians as terrorists and accusations that Armenians collaborated with the Nazis to exterminate the Jews. Mr. Jouanneau criticizes Time~Rs editors for contributing to Turkey~Rs campaign to deny the Armenian Genocide. In doing so, Jouanneau condemns Time for aiding Turkey~Rs precedent of having committed a genocide with impunity. ~STIME magazine has helped embolden future perpetrators of genocide with the knowledge that their crimes can be committed without consequence,~T said Jouanneau. Aratta-Kingdom
TIME PRINTS FULL-PAGE LETTER TO RECTIFY TURKISH DVD FLAP TIME magazine came a step closer this week to properly address a major dispute with Armenians worldwide over its distribution of a Turkish DVD denying the Armenian Genocide. In its June 6, 2005 issue, the European edition of TIME ran a four-page ad placed by the Ankara Chamber of Commerce promoting tourism in Turkey. As part of that paid ad, the magazine included a DVD insert that had a 70-minute segment that denied and distorted the facts of the Armenian Genocide. This highly offensive material, hidden behind a couple of benign segments on tourism in the DVD, was disseminated to half a million TIME subscribers in a dozen European countries. Initially, the editors of TIME did not seem to realize the grave error they had committed by becoming accomplices to Turkish denialists. They dismissed Armenian complaints about this hateful and hurtful Turkish DVD by simply stating that TIME did "not endorse the views of any organization or government." However, when the Switzerland-Armenia Association wrote a letter threatening to sue TIME for violating a Swiss law against the denial of crimes against humanity and genocide, the magazine’s managing editor, James Kelly, wrote back stating that no one at TIME had "adequately reviewed" the offensive segment of the Turkish DVD. He apologized profusely and repeatedly to the Armenian community and to all its readers. Mr. Kelly said that the DVD presented a distorted view of history that did not meet the magazine’s "standards for fairness and accuracy." He added: "We would not have distributed [the DVD] had we been aware of the content." The Swiss-Armenian group, however, was not satisfied with this response. They wrote back pointing out that the magazine had not addressed the issue of redressing the damage caused by the malicious Turkish DVD to the descendants of the victims of the Armenian Genocide. Meanwhile, five French organizations hired an attorney in order to pursue their legal rights under French laws that call for the protection of "human dignity." Mémoire 2000, the Coordinating Council of Armenian Organizations of France (CCOAF), the Armenian National Committee of France (CDCA), J’Accuse, and the Movement Against Racism and for Friendship Among Peoples (MRAP) wrote a lengthy joint letter of complaint that was published on a whole page in the October 17 issue of TIME’s European edition. The French organizations requested that TIME distribute free of charge an objective DVD on the Armenian Genocide and donate the income from the Turkish ad to non-profit organizations that advocate the truth about the Armenian Genocide. In an "Editor’s note" published along with the letter, TIME restated the apology that it had expressed earlier to the Switzerland-Armenia Association. The note added that TIME was publishing this letter "pursuant to French law (‘droit de réponse’)" [right of reply]. The ANC of France (CDCA) stated in a press release that by printing the letter and expressing its apology, TIME had partially acknowledged its error. This right of reply "is the initial result of a common and long-term initiative by the associations fighting against racism, anti-Semitism and for the defense of the memory of the Armenian people" said Harout Mardirossian, Chairman of CDCA. "If TIME magazine thinks that this right of reply settles all accounts, it is sadly mistaken. TIME magazine’s response does not redress the terrible suffering of those who saw this sordid tool of denialist propaganda. Taking into account the most heinous content of this DVD, our demands for redress go far beyond this simple right of reply and we intend to attain them," said Mardirossian. The Chairman of CDCA reiterated the demand of the five organizations for the magazine to disseminate free of charge to its European subscribers an objective DVD on the Armenian Genocide, and to have TIME donate the revenues from the Turkish ad to non-profit organizations that advocate the truth about the Armenian and all other genocides. By acknowledging its error, apologizing for it and publishing a full-page letter, TIME magazine has begun to take responsibility for the pain and suffering it has caused to Armenians worldwide. TIME’s executives and the representatives of French and Swiss organizations now have to sit down together and consider the proper ways to undo the damage caused by the Turkish DVD. As has been suggested previously, one such way would be for TIME to disseminate to its readers an accurate DVD on the Armenian Genocide. Another possible step would be for the magazine to donate the revenues from the Turkish DVD to non-profit organizations. It would be wrong for TIME to profit from tainted funds belonging to revisionists and denialists of genocide!
