Arpa
WeIl! I have not seen it. Has anyone seen hew signed it? If only we had as many writers and editors at the TIME as you-know-hew, if we only had a pen big enough as you-know-hew we would not be in this predicament. Any budding journalists here? Or are we condemned to be the world's demirji-ians and koshkar-ians forever!!??
DominO123
AZG Armenian Daily #103, 07/06/2005 Concern TURKS SPENT $ 1MILLION ON FILM DENYING ARMENIAN GENOCIDE Liberty Radio informed that the videodisc attached to the latest issue of the American Times denies the Armenian Genocide. The videodisc released in Turkey informs the readers of the periodical that the events happened in the Ottoman Turkey in 1915 were no genocide, but they were an exile. The disc says that the Turkish Government provided the exiled Armenians with food and water and very often they were fed better that the Turkish soldiers escorting them. The authors of the film represented Taleat ***** as a national hero. The Azeri representative of the film states that "the Armenians who massacred the Turks earlier now kill the Azeris." The disc says that the Armenians fought in the army of Hitler and carried out terrorist acts against the Turkish diplomats. "Those who keep saying that they were massacred in the genocide, committed genocide themselves." Sinan Aygun, chairman of Ankara Trade House, said that $1 million were required for shooting the film. They managed to accumulate the required sum thanks to the donations. Half a million of Europeans will receive the videodisc denying the Armenian Genocide with the help of Times. vava
UPDATE: I have not seen the CD, but I can now confirm that it exists and has been distributed IN TIME MAGAZINE's June 6th issue along with a 4-page promotional colour leaflet and a DVD. The DVD has an approximately 40 minute segment that essentially attempts to disprove the AG and includes interviews with turcophile denailists such as the late Sam Weems and Bernard Lewis. I'm attempting to get a hold of a copy myself - more to come later. Edited June 9, 2005 by vava

Sip
This might not be such a bad thing after all! vava
Here's some information from CRAG - there's also a link to a letter to the editor which I find much better than the genocide.info letter. Campaign for Recognition of the Armenian Genocide (CRAG) www.crag.org.uk / info@24april.org 10 June 2005 Dear Friends & Supporters: AA. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR The Chair of CRAG has sent a LETTER TO THE EDITOR of the TIME magazine (Europe) in an initial response to the DVD that was included in its edition of 6th June (with photo of German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder on the front cover). CRAG also continues to coordinate its efforts with other pan-European Armenian organisations for further follow-ups to this campaign of denial. Another LETTER TO THE EDITOR was also sent to the Journal of Turkish Weekly in response to an article by Dr Sedat Laciner. You can read both those LETTERS on the CRAG website. You can also update yourself on a host of other issues, including backdated CRAG d-base e-alerts, photos of past events UK-wide and future activities relating to the 90th anniversary in 2005, by logging on the website at www.crag.org.uk And for those who would like to send their own Letters to the Editor, hereunder are the two e-mail addresses: TIME magazine at: letters@time.com Journal of Turkish Weekly: info@usak.org.uk

vava
Here you are Armat jan: the Letter to the Editor sent to the TIME magazine (Europe) regarding the DVD issue by the Chair of both the CRAG and 90th Anniversary Committees: LETTER TO THE EDITOR Dear Madam / Sir: As Chair of the Campaign for Recognition of the Armenian Genocide in the UK, and also Chair of the 90th Anniversary Committee for the Recognition of the Armenian Genocide, you would not expect me to agree with the content of the DVD distributed with the 6th June edition of the Time magazine. Disagreements and disputes can often have two sides to them, but I believe that I have the solid advantage in that the vast majority of independent expert organisations (including the Association of Genocide Scholars, the Institute on the Holocaust and Genocide in Jerusalem, the Middle East Studies Association of North America and the International Center for Transitional Justice) have unequivocally recognised the fact of the Armenian Genocide. In turn, I would not have expected an august magazine such as yours to distribute under the suggestive cover of tourism promotion what amounts to gratuitous libel against the Armenian nation. I refer to such items on the DVD as the claims that the Armenian education system sows the seeds of hatred, blaming religious intolerance in Turkey on Christian missionaries or implying that Armenians are the inheritors of Nazi racial ideology. I would anticipate a statement from your magazine that the stirring of ethnic tensions, let alone the distribution of extreme rightwing and unsustainably dangerous propaganda, are completely inconsistent with the long-held standards of Time - more so when your own magazine reported on 6 June 1960 that Tala'at had introduced genocide to the 20th century by ordering the massacre of 500,000 Armenians. Furthermore, I would like an assurance that your legal department viewed the DVD in its entirety before sanctioning its distribution in its present format, and in its one-sided, overwhelmingly one-theme, content. After all, the DVD is being distributed Europe-wide within the covers of your magazine and could be a worrying example of imputation by proxy. Though you might believe that your action represents freedom of information, are you aware that publishing the counter-arguments to this DVD in Turkey would render any publisher / writer / individual liable for up to 10 years imprisonment under the discriminatory articles of the Turkish Penal Code introduced on 1 June 2005? Do you also know that Turkish children are taught genocide denial as part of the official curriculum by teachers who are under threat of dismissal and disciplining (as has happened already) if they object as a matter of conscience? Did you perchance report in Time that all the leaders of Christian denominations, including the Armenian Patriarch, complained directly to the former US Secretary of State Colin Powell in 2004 about ongoing routine discrimination against their churches and properties? The distribution of propaganda with such an offensive tone, and in the process causing at the very least injury to a whole nation, should not be the business of Time in spite of any putative commercial advantages. I hope on reflection that you would accept that this was a gross error of judgement, and publish a major article that corrects the distasteful impression given to your readers. Surely they deserve better than what they have been offered so far! DominO123
That's worst than I thought, if there was a publicity on the cover, Times own an appology and a way to repair the harm.

Give those suckers all the rope they need to hang themselves. Let them have more the horse manure to bury themselves. After the Turks were stopped at the front gates of Vienna in 1529 they have been trying to enter Europe any way they can, even if it takes to enter through the back door. Let them enter Europe. Let them vacate our lands. And if the Europeans are naïve enough and stupid enough to not remember history, if they are so forgetful to remember that Turkey has sided with the Fascists during both World Wars, then they deserve every thing they get by admitting those savages among their ranks …… Don’t cry…. for me old Vienna… Edited June 11, 2005 by Arpa
Sasun
This might not be such a bad thing after all! What it might do is to bring the Armenian Genocide issue more into the limelight which in the end, can only really hurt Turkey more than anything else. style_images/master/snapback.png I think we have reason to be greatly concerned, I think it is quite unlikely that we can benefit from this. It may backfire at them only if Armenians raise a really big noise all over Europe condemning, etc.., which is not granted at all. Otherwise it is very damaging for us, because in reality they are not bringing the Genocide into the limelight but fabrications, and are creating a false negative image of Armenians. I really don't see how we could benefit from such a significant blow.
ED
It is yet to be seen what kind of effect this move by Turkish government will do on a mindset of Europeans, however we shouldn’t stand on a sidelines and wait, we should adapt(ed) a similar move….now lets think about this for a moment….how hard it will be to mail a DVD documentary to where it would matter? They have done it, hate to say this but, in maybe an effective way and adopted Times as a credible source, like I emphasized before, we shouldn’t confront to Turkish moves, we should of though about this first,.. instead of spending some 20 million on a AG movie which reflected Egoyans ego more then the Genocide. We get it every Tuesday. Have been since 1999. It's claimed that TIME Europe sent those DVD's. We haven't received anything. What should I do? If I know 100% that these information is correct, and what it is that TIME did exactly then I'll cancel it immediately. My father doesn't want me to rush to cancel it, especially on false information. What makes me doubt a bit about whether TIME Europe did such a thing is because I haven't heard of this information anywhere else.
Anoushik
Does anyone know if Hyelur on H1 reported it last week? My dad watches it every day and he doesn't remember any such information. He might've missed it. The Armenian Genocide has been discussed very much recently and continues to be a major discussion in Europe. Hyelur keeps reporting these events. They would've definitely reported about TIME Europe.

MosJan
All i see is turkey trying to divert our recourses – trying yet another dirty trick We make an DVD - turkey will make another one – we all know haw skilled turks are in making stuff up ......... For many years we ( Armenians and our Friends ) have speed so much effort on bringing our case in front of the international communists in Higher level - it would not be wise to start spending million or 2 on making a DVD - just producing one might take a year or 2 – by then 99% times subscribers will not ever remember the #1 dvd by turks ?? what do we need to proof ?? we have no need to proof !!! it has been proven and higher levels parliaments / senates of many countries have recognize the facts - we have no need to make an DVD and send them to time magazine’s subscribers - #1 it will take to long to count as “counter attack” #2 we will loose way to much time and efforts – instead we can use the recourses wisely
vava
Mos is right. Instead of always reacting (counter-attack) we should go on a well planned offensive. Not just ONE cd, or dvd, but an entire series of CDs, documenteries, films/videos, articles one right after the other.... just as the dust settles after one (while the Turks are gathering their forces to counter) we release another, and so on.... The truth is on our side, so lets exploit it. Distribution and awareness are the keys to a successful plan - we know we have the expertise and the resources, we just have to apply them correctly.
