Anoushik
I don't quite understand. Where is the information that TIME did send that DVD. Who received it? I've searched extensively online but haven't gotten any results, aside from this, and it still does not make sense to me. Maral, or anybody else who knows something, can you provide me with information regarding this? If it is true that TIME did send it to subscribers in Europe, then I'll call and cancel our subsciption immediately.
vava
HERE'S a link to Time Europe: no mention of a DVD in recent issues. The last article with a focus on Turkey was a few months ago.... I'm beginning to wonder if this isn't some sort of red-herring designed to show that Armenians are crazed, letter-writing activists.
Sasun
Could it be that the online version is simply not mentioning the DVD because in all likelihood it was just an advertisement (like I often receive an AOL CD which gets tossed in the garbage right away. I have received maybe 10 or more of those so far)

Anoushik
I just got this email to my Hotmail account from genocide1915.info: TIME U.S. EDITION SPREAD FILM DENYING ARMENIAN GENOCIDE 6/6/2005 We ask you to write to Time magazine and demand to remove that ridiculous DVD, denying Armenian Genocide, from their distribution. Shame on Time magazine for selling out to Turkish propaganda. And as a protest, cancel your subscription if Time magazine does not remove that DVD and apologize for such a terrible act, by which they disrespect 1,5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide. Can anyone confirm that this information is correct?
Anoushik
I suspect that the information the rumor that TIME did such a thing is not correct, because if it were true we would have definitely heard about it on Hyelur on H1 from Armenia. Also, the various Armenian news agencies online (like PanArmenianNetwork) would have reported this.

Its shake up time! To our organizations and leaders. Edited June 8, 2005 by Edward
Anoushik
I so did not want to believe this This is incredibly sad and pathetic. I'm cancelling our subsciption right now. I really want to write to them a lengthly email explaining my outrage, and I think I am also going to call them. This is very pathetic Search on Google News This is very hurtful. Anoushik
I really don't want to believe this, and I am still not fully convinced. Who got the DVD's, every TIME Europe subscriber? Does anyone have any relative in Europe who can confirm this information? What if it's only the Turks who reported this - they made it up? And also the numbers of how many people got the DVD's don't match. Edit: It just doesn't make sense that such a big, reputable magazine as TIME would make such an unprofessional mistake. vava
Doesn't mean it's true - the source of ALL of this mess is Turkish Press. The Armenian news agency have made their reports based on this information. No where have I seen any Armenian who has actually SEEN the damned CD in Time. Jury's still out, it may still be a hoax. I'm beginning to wonder if this isn't some sort of red-herring designed to show that Armenians are crazed, letter-writing activists. style_images/master/snapback.png The DVD was not sent as part of the magazines article, but probably as a propotion publicity, and such publicities are not specific to Times... promotion publicities are not included in the web version, neither in the magazine. A third party uses the magazines distribution,... that is all. Times has no control over this, the only thing I think Times should do is to send an article stating clearly that in no way they do endorse the information. They can not apologize, because technically they did nothing, absolutly nothing wrong. We, on the other hand could prepare a DVD on Armenia, and use it to counteranswer. There probably is some documentary about Armenia prepared somewhere, which could be used as publicity... if anyone can get a hold of the DVD... send it to MosJan, he'll mail it to me, and I'll answer the distortion, free of charge ... we just need to find an editor to correct grammer etc. and a documentary about Armenia. Then, we find an Armenia buseness association etc. to pay for the promotion. This way, we'll have the last word... a distortion published and an answer following it, is better than no distortion published, because if we use this to show how their distortion work... people will realise the weakness of their arguments. I don't want to cancel on false information. This wouldn't make us look good. Edit: By us I mean the Armenians. We could do better yet, pay in the name of a compagny, let say MosJan, Duduks Times to provide their lists of European users... everyone having DVD burners... download it from a server, and burn as much as they can... and we send them in Europe to group of Armenians that will throw those DVDs in their mails of those users. vava
Yes, I have - but I would NEVER claim that TIME sent it to me! The article states that TIME MAGAZINE has DISTRIBUTED the DVD as part and parcel of the edition: A DVD attached to latest number of Time edition published in US denies the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey at the beginning of last century. Anoushik
Well, maybe I should send an email to TIME and ask if it was true? Would it be too naive to think that they would answer truthfully?

They have probably used Times distribution, the junk publicity crap people recieve in their mails, generally suc crap land in my garbage. If 10% of those having recieved the DVD haven't thrown them, it would be considered as a success.

Anoushik
Guys, if we don't know 100% that this information is true then we should be very cautious about distributing this information and urging people to cancel, like Genocide1915 did. It will only make Armenians look foolish.
