Could all this religions be as simple as the fear of dying?

Zen is no religion and knows no fear,no heaven,no hell,no people with wings etc.

Sometimes people justify it as a source for morality.Really?Does someone needs to worship something to be honest?open minded?generous?

Armat, actually religions are a major source of morality. If you think about it all moral codes in all societies have their roots in their respective religions. Having said that, of course one does not need to be religious to be moral. However, as a general rule, if one is sincerely religious then he/she will tend to be adhering to morality stronger than his/her non-religious fellows.

Sasun

If you take two opposites of any religion even within the same faith you'll see that morality plays very little in their hatred of each other.

Muslims vs Christians Catholic vs Orthodox, Shite VS sunny etc. etc. You are right only If those people are sincere in their practice which is a rare human attribute. People who follow anything blindly have the potential to commit the biggest crimes since we are referring to machines and not spiritual beings.

Sasun, what does it mean to be sincerely religious?

It means to be truly devoted to ones religion and the teachings of the scriptures of that religion - not in letter but in spirit and true meaning. It means not to be a hypocrit, not a ceremonial church or temple goer and who sermonizes things that he/she does not actually practice. It also means that one recognizes his/her moral shortomings and really makes effort to change his/her nature towards good. Also, someone who is not attached to dogmas, someone who respects other people's beliefs and practices, someone who helps fellow human beings by all means that he/she can, someone who does not look down to anyone but is serviceful towards all, etc... I could add more stuff but I think you get the idea. This is my understanding. I bet someone will disagree.

I pity you. I guess you believe in the creation of earth and man was by a 'big bang'. I say ur brainwashed.

Seb,

Let's get one thing straight: Supporting the Big Bang does NOT signify one's Atheism. It is simply accepting a view of existence based on evidence instead of speculation. It is Reason over probable myth. And if you are against this theory of science , what is your belief on how the Universe and Life came to be?

An Earth of 10,000 years..? Human supremecy and centrality? Divine Breath of Birth..?

Thanks

You have to pity me and feel sorry for me and try to convert me as you are a true christian.

Yes, Big Bang theory makes more sense than the writings in the Bible...

If you analyze the way Genesis was written, you'd see that Moses wrote it in a way so as to be taken literally. For example, he tells the story of creation by saying that there was plant life before there was a sun. This is obviously impossible. It was not meant to document creation scientifically ;)

Just because people back then did not have the science does not make them ignoramuses.

I also don't like people who question others' morality and ethics because of their believes: some christians have been forcing me to read the book and praise Christ in order to get to heaven ;)

lol why not?

The story (or should I say dream?) of that monk claims that Gautama Buddha was burning in hell because he didn't believe in Jesus Christ. Common, how could he believe in someone who was born 500 years after him! That's ridiculous. But the tragic fact is that that a lot of churches and missionaries resort to frightening in order to convert people. It is better to be an atheist than believe out of fear.

Are you telling me you would rather go to hell, than go to heaven because you're scared of going to hell?!

That does not make sense.

I am saying what I said before: it is better to be an atheist than believe (or subscribe to a religion) out of fear.

@Sasun: So if we follow your definition of a true christian.. It doesn't exist does it? ;)

@Sseb: How is it possible to laugh at people because they believe in the Big Bang and at the same time dare say : I believe God created men and we were thrown out of Heaven because of Eve's sin...

You believe Jesus walked on water, that Jesus made miracles and raised people from the dead (you've seen it?) but you don't believe that the Universe was created by what we call the Big Bang, you don't believe i suppose in the existence of life on other planets.

You believe in the writings of a book but you don't believe in Science? How weird.

Also how come many great scientists were christians and believed in God?

What is YOUR purpose? Why are you here on earth? To blindly follow something just to go to Heaven or Hell?

I ask all of you good christians out there.. Is it possible to have faith and believe in God without having to follow blindly everything written in the Bible, without living in the fear of God and Hell? And be considered as a "good" person? If not, then i am happy to be an Alien :D

I have nothing to envy to the Good perfect christian. In fact I could even consider myself better, because at least I am OPEN minded.
