Harut it looks like something gets screwed up with the forum because of the strange characters in your post (???) ... can you post the source file on the web somewhere and post a link to it? That would probably be the best way.

Yeah! And who got the latest episode of CAIA Magazine!

Not really ... mostly since I think that "smartness" is not that well defined. For example (it's one of my favorite ones), it used to be that if you were good in chess, you were considered smart. But now computers can be very good in chess and I don't think anyone considers computers "smart". At the moment, I would say that "smartness" probably means being able to tell the difference between random letters and phrases from the meaningful ones. Since the human brain doesn't work too fast and since we don't really have a lot of time (like that monkey up there), we have to rely on some intelligence to say things that have any meaning. ... also, when I start talking all philosophical and stuff (that increasingly get incoherent) that is usually a VERY good indication that it's time for me to shut up and get some sleep! I usually feel much better after sleeping about 10 to 12 hours. ... and what does this all have to do with Dutch Politics? I have NO IDEA http://zr2.cs.ucla.edu/Sip/zr2/roflmao.gif

quote:Originally posted by hasmiek:well Sip there could be more truth in that than you would think....the dutch seem to be bored to death and ready to grab any kind of entertainment, even politics! the world cup could have saved pim fortuyns life! ....maybe you are superduper intelligent!wo would have thought... Damn, now I wish I didn't put that "just joking" phrase there You know what is amazing to me? If you have a monkey with a typewriter that just sits and types random letters ... eventually, after enough time, it WILL type the ENTIRE written works of Shakespeare!!!! I find that completely mind boggeling. By the way, to give credit where it is due, that is pretty much straight from a poem by Eddington (not sure of the first name).

Ok I thought long and hard before posting this. But I think it is important that everyone be aware of this ... so here it is : http://zr2.cs.ucla.edu/Sip/zr2/bad_picture.jpg

Glad to be of service! I knew there was a reason for taking high school math and algebra all those years (my teachers were telling me that I would need them but I didn't really believe them ... I thought just having 1's and 0's is enough!)

Oh and a few other things ... it is funny that they are still wasting time and effort with Full-Screen Anti-Aliasing (FSAA) for 3D! That turned out to be such a rediculous thing especially with these ultra-high resolutions that most gamers are playing with! Also, I thought it was funny that they had "sample" pictures and videos on their site to show how good the color is on that video card!!!!! That is so stupid (everyone has a different video card and will view the pics using that ... so what is the point of having sample pics to show how 10-bit color looks like when your video card doesn't support it anyway? ) ... gotta love marketting-type web sites!!!

That IS quite interesting ... I hadn't heard of it before so I thought it was about time for me to catch up a bit Unfortunately, I just don't see that chip being able to compete with Nvidia's stuff From what I read, it has some impressive features and it is going to be VERY fast. But it is also going to be very expensive ... which means, it is not going to be any factor in the normal gaming market. Which would further mean that developers will NOT spend extra money and effort to make their stuff compatible with (or tuned to) that chip ... But as far as 2D, I think Matrox has done it again! I always loved their dual-head cards and now this one looks like it may be a tripple-head!!! I don't think the normal gamer will spend the money for 3 monitors just for games ... but I can imagine a lot of pros starting to use that card. It's still too early to tell but don't sell your Nvidia stock just yet!!!!!

That Tiqit is NICE !!! I added it to the list of things to buy when I win the lottery ( ) ... now all you have to hope for is that I win the lottery before your birthday I have seen that car before! If I remember correctly, it is a VERY ugly looking car from the outside but the inside is SWEET ... except the ugly red paint Oh and that wrecked exotic pics are just too sad I got this link from a good friend of mine who works at JPL Nasa searches web for shuttle parts ... I thought it was pretty amazing! 8" Floopy disks? That's way before my time ... ah and the good'ol 8086 .. it never goes away

Wow that's pretty cool ... it must be using "differential" GPS then to be that accurate. Normal GPS can be off by several meters (if not more) sometimes. Differential GPS, which uses additional signals generated on earth in addition to satellites, can be very accurate EDIT: Oh of course I am talking about the civilian GPS where the US Department of Defense INTENTIONALLY screws up the signal. There is always the military signals which are very very accurate from what I hear (but is encrypted for obvious reasons). [ May 14, 2002, 05:30 PM: Message edited by: Sip ]

Fascinating! I always had this feeling that nothing much happens in that part of the world but I guess I was wrong. See now if Holland had qualified for the world cup, none of this would have happened. People there whould have had other things on their minds ... (of course just joking )

Harut ... you are only interested in responces from girls/women/grandmothers ? IF I were a girl, this is what I would say (in case this helps): 1. what is the best thing about being the sex you are? I have the ability to drive, talk on the cel phone, put on make-up, eat breakfast, pay attention to the kids in the back seat, think about what groceries I need to buy, and listen to music on the radio ALL AT THE SAME TIME. (There is NO way a man could do this ... maybe 2 or 3 of the above but NOT all at the same time). 2. what is the most difficult thing about being the sex you are? Society tells me that I should try to be attractive (esp to men). If I try to appeal to men, other women hate me. If I try NOT to appeal to men so I can befriend other women, society shuns me ... it's a viscous cycle with NO solution. 3. a. if you could change your sex for one week, would you? Hell YES. b. what might you discover? a) How painful it is to be kicked you know where How simple it is to be a male. c) The joys of not having to worry about how I look ALL the time ... I can get up, shower, eat breakfast, be in the car and ready to go in 2 mins flat! If you want the grandma perspective as well, let me know

I have not heard or read a SINGLE thing about it so I have NO idea what's going on But I did read that video games led some dumb-a** kid to shoot his friend (Article) Sometimes I get the feeling that the majority of the people in the world have gone NUTZ

To clarify, if I were the father, I wouldn't feel any different than if they used "my" last name. I think Thoth also said the same thing (i.e. doesn't matter which name is used).

I think people make too much fuss about names ... they don't really mean anything anymore. Before they used to represents clans and stuff I guess. I am perfectly happy being known as a number ... as long as it can be proven that it is unique If two people get married, we may have to take their corresponding numbers and find the Least Common Multiple or something like that. Maybe even multiply it by a specific prime number to make it trully unique. Of course for Armenians, we'll just add 'ian' to the end. So to answer the question, I don't think names are too important as long as each individual has a unique identifier. [ May 10, 2002, 06:08 PM: Message edited by: Sip ]

There should of course be an extra level of awareness about "hacking" but generally, it takes much more effort to destroy than to rebuild in case of electronic media (although I could be wrong). I think at the end, that will be the main force that will help in fighting against e-vandalism. [ May 09, 2002, 04:22 PM: Message edited by: Sip ]

But MosJan, you are assuming that those "hackers" have any sort of intelligence :lol.gif: :rolleyes.gif: [EDIT]: OK ... I promise I'll try not to start another reply with the word "BUT" ... [ May 09, 2002, 04:20 PM: Message edited by: Sip ]

But WHO CARES? All you have to do is backup often. Let them do whatever they want. Doesn't matter how hard they try to get in ... it is always much much easier to restore from backups than to "break in". I see all these reports of "Oh, they broke in to such and such system ... all world is coming to an end!" ... nothing could be further from the truth.

Pretty cool site. This sentence in the "about our country" caught my eye: "... Humankind was reborn here and archeological discoveries bear the hallmarks of an advanced civilisation." Boy, we sure are a very humble nation, aren't we?! Plus, if we were sooo advanced, wouldn't we know how to spell correctly? Just a bit ironic, I thought ...

I am not sure about those numbers above. Here are exact numbers for mine. It's a 300W ATX 2.03 Supply: code: +3.3 +5 +12 -5 -12 +5sbMin Load 0.2A 2A 0A 0A 0A 0A Max Load 14.0A 30.0A 12.0A 0.3A 1.0A 2A * +5V & +3.3V combined output 150W max If I remember my Athlon 1Ghz specs correctly, they said something about min 28A on the +5 line. The symptoms you describe, i.e. completely random freezes, crashes, or resets, is very concistent with power supply problems although a number of other things could cause them.

I think I'll quote my idol and hero at this time: 1) "If something is hard then it is probably not worth doing." 2) "Trying is the first step to failure." --Homer (not the homer you are thinking of ... or maybe it is?) I think those words to have VERY deep meanings and I try to live by them. Hope that cheered you up just a bit.

My main problem was the case I think. The cards dont really sit properly in the motherboard and the screw holes don't line up. I bent the frame of the case (it's a cheap case) and now things seem to be ok. I had to play a lot with the system to get it to be stable. Just motherboard, CPU, RAM, video card, and hard disk. Tried many different bioses and many different settings. If you don't have a stable system with just these components, there is no reason to go any further! The best way to tell in my opinion are these benchmark programs like 3D Mark. I let it run for a day. Usually when there is a problem, the thing crashes within a few minutes. Now I am sure those components are 100% stable so I started installing everything else. So far so good !!! But it's still too early to tell. But basically, my Geforce2 is VERY stable even running at AGP 4X. By the way, the power supply is a big issue with these boards. Are you sure yours is rated for Athlon or Pentium 4 use? I had to switch power supplys when I first got the Geforce2 card. I think this one is rated at about 30 AMPS on the +5 volt line which is good (anything above 28 AMPS is good) I would say a PS that can provide these is pretty good: +3.3v 28amps, +5v 30amps, +12v 15 amps. Note that the full rating that they provide (like 300W) is not enough to know it it will be good enough. The +3.3 and the +5 lines are what really matter.

That is pretty strange because I thought all the A7V series had the temperature protection stuff. I know mine shows the temps but I have never tested to see what happens if it overheats! Athlon chips are GREAT in terms of architecture. The main problem has been chipsets and motherboards. ALI, VIA, and even AMDs own chipsets have always sucked with very poor driver support. But AMDs CPUs have really kicked ass in the past few years compared to intels. But as far as system stability and ease of setting up ... there have been many occasions when I wished I had spend the extra money to get an intel system
