  1. Alright ... this thread has been quiet for too long This problem is more computer science-ish but I thought I'd put it here since it's also math: code:Can three houses be connected to three utilities without the pipes crossing? _______ _______ _______ | oil | |water| | gas | |_____| |_____| |_____| _______ _______ _______ |HOUSE| |HOUSE| |HOUSE| | one | | two | |three| |_____| |_____| |_____| So basically, the problem asks you to draw lines connecting the 3 houses to the 3 "utilities" without any lines crossing each other. Can you do it?

    Looks matter !!!

Well, maybe it's our definitions of "looks" that is the problem... with "looks" I mean how you are preceived by others which are always at a distance since no two bodies can occupy the same space (at least none that I know of). So how you "look" is how I preceive you by your actions (which includes your physical appearance, what you say, what you do, facial expressions, etc etc).

quote:Originally posted by Anshnork:...However, I also think that "brains" are important as well to most people... Yah but the point I am trying to make is that "brain" is useless if nothing comes out! I have seen people that have pretty amazing thoughts in their heads but they NEVER or rarely express it ... so although they may have exceptional brains, all it matters is what they seem and look like to others. What they think about in the privacy of their brains is completely irrelevant in my opinion

    Looks matter !!!

Ok, sorry for yet another one of these mental diarrhea's that I seem to have once in a while but the discussions (esp. seeing the "hye" perspective) in the past on several topics have been VERY interesting to me (such as the bed making stuff which turned very political at some point and the table cleanup stuff) ... So this is the next thing that's been bothering me ... I just saw it mentioned in another thread ... Why do people always say "looks don't matter"? It's not what what you look like but it's what you think (brains) ... etc etc I really think you are what you seem to be. i.e. you are what you look like. I really couldn't care less what you THINK. The only thing that really matters in life is what you present to the outside (of your brain). You could have the greatest, most amazing stuff in your brain ... but if it never comes out then it doesn't really matter! On a related note, I think beauty does matter a lot to people. I have heard many many times about how "looks" don't matter but it just seems to me that it is not very true. So here's the question that I have: 1) You are what you think. 2) You are what you seem to be. Which one of those do you believe? (feel free to propose a third if you feel it better desribes what you think). Simple example to defend my position: Suppose I really really hate purple people. Suppose I NEVER do anything bad to purple people and never say anything bad about them. I say I am NOT prejudiced. Do you think I am?

  17. quote:Originally posted by Azat:Oh ya, I forgot to say that I make my bed everyday. It only takes a second to do and it is not hard to do. My grandfather showed me how to make my bed when I was a kid and I have been doing it for the last 20+ years. It's no big deal. The only time when I do not make the bed is when I am in a hotel room. I also clean my room al th time, do my own laundery and cook. So will you feel bad if you don't make it one day? Oh, and don't get me started with hotels!!! The way they stick the covers under the bed ... what's up with that? I usually end up ripping everything up just to get the covers off the bed quote:Originally posted by Azat:But I refuse to wash my care but 3-4 times a year. I have a hard time understanding why people get their car washed every week. I bought a white car just for this fact ... I don't have to wash it every week The only time I have really had to "wash" the truck was after THIS. It took me about 3 days to clean it up ... It's been about 7 months but I still get chunks of mud out of the wheel wells once in a while. Good thing about southern California is that we don't have too much mud

So I consider "life in bed" quite important (hmmm ... I know what some are thinking here but that's NOT what I meant http://zr2.cs.ucla.edu/Sip/zr2/roflmao.gif) ... oh and parev right back at ya. quote:Originally posted by gamavor:Sip, I can bet that you have never been in the army! I had to skip some of the political stuff Sorry, I just didn't understand most of it plus some have already been removed. I know there is a big connection between "bed" and politics but here we are talking about "making the bed" ... it probably has some deep psychological meanings or just that it is a learned behavior (forced) but I don't believe it has a direct relationship with political stuff.

I am speechless ... such an amazing array of responses actually, I am in New Orleans right now with a very stange internet connection ... it's wireless but I either get FULL POWER or nothing ... so I'll keep this message short (I'll answer everything as soon as I can ) [ June 16, 2002, 07:48 PM: Message edited by: Sip ]
  20. Alright, this thing is just another one of those things that just doesn't make sense to me! What am I talking about? I am talking about people "making their beds" in the morning. Those that when they get up in the morning (in case of couples, whoever gets up latest, in case of tripples ... well, let's NOT go there ) they insist on completely putting all the covers nicely back on the bad, cleaning things up, puffing up the pillows, and then leaving for the day. What is the problem? Well, usually, after a long day, they come back home, and when they go back to the bedroom, they immediately remove the covers to use the bed. So here's my problem: What difference does it make if the bed is made up during the day or not? Why does that make some people feel better about themselves? Why not just save the time and the effort, leave the bed the way it is for when you come back to use it later that night ????? Ok, I understand that sometimes you have people visiting. Fine, go ahead ... make the bed then. But why everyday? why do it when NO one will be in that room except yourself and/or your spouse much later in the day when you have to remove the covers off the bed anyway? If you don't have any idea what I am talking about, you are one of the few lucky ones! Believe me, I have seen and heard of this crazy practice in many different places (yes, even different countries) ... among the Armenians and also among the non-Armenians ... It just doesn't make sense! Anyone able to shed some light on this for me? Are you one of those that insists on having a perfectly made-up bed when you leave the house or are you like me ... couldn't care less what it looks like except for when there are people that will come to the house ?????? Side note: why are females more obsessed with this practice than males? (or am I wrong )
