Armat
Hi everyone, I thought to start a new thread, which is open to any Art discussion. The present Avatar is a linonium cut that is I carved out the image and applied the paint by hand and then printed it. Since there is no set color scheme every print comes out unique. This one is called “Morning” http://home.earthlink.net/~aasla/av-1318a.jpg Edit Note: Dear Armat, Sorry I edited your post and put a copy of your current avatar on my site with a link here. That way in the future if you change your avatar this thread will still be accurate. --Azat
Stormig
At first I thought it was some kind of Near Eastern mythical creature, but now that I look at it, it looks like a naked human figure on a bed with one leg bent under the other... Unless you've changed it so far.
Azat
Armat, (i know this may sound stupid) but is linonium the same as linoleum? What kind of material is it? it does certainly look very interesting. To me it seems to have some Egyptian hints in it.(don't really know why)
vava
Egyptian, or at least some sort of north african flavour... very interesting indeed...

Armat
This painting subject is a psychological impact of the Armenian Genocide. It is called the Armenian Genocide.I changed this painting five times during its creation, which gradually got more intensified and overall portrays the agony or the pain of actual act of killing and slaughtering. As a kid I many times witnessed sheep being slaughtered and the peeling of the skin and the white fat between the meat and the skin left a memory imprint in me. I will let you guys feel what you think about it.Thoth thank you. http://home.earthlink.net/~aasla/av-1318b.jpg Edit Note: Armat I just added the image to the post so you can change the avatar when ever you want Edited October 23, 2003 by Azat

Azat
Dear Armat, what artists have had the most influence on you and your style. Who are your favorite artists?
Armat
Dear Armat, what artists have had the most influence on you and your style. Who are your favorite artists? Azat great question. As a kid Martiros Saryan and Kochar had great influence on me and not just me but a whole generation of Artists in Armenia. I am very glad that we came to States and my eyes were literally opened. Lot of Artists had influence on my work but now I am sort of “found” myself and consciously distill out the obvious resemblance to any artist.I love Toros Roslin, Arshile Gorky, Ruben Nakian,Richard Diebenkorn-(west coast brilliant painter died recently)Matisse, Van Gogh, Living contemporary ones-Anselm Kiefer, Francesco Clemente,Gerhard Richter,Julian Schnabel( did a painting related to Armenia and very knowledgeable about our history)Enzo Cucchi and my best friend (lives in LA) Gegham Khacherian –very gifted experimental Artist) the list is long but these are few I can think now. Azat
Very interesting Armat. Obviously I have not had any artist that have influenced me as I can't paint but I do LOVE art. My sister is an Art historian and has had lots of influence on me in that aspect. The spanish masters Velásquez and Goya and the Italian Caravaggio are the artists that I love. Especially Velásquez. But I also like Van-Gogh, Miro, Picasso, Vermeer, Vandyke, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael(no Sip not the turtles. ), Rembrand, Rivera, O'Keeffe, oh God i guess I love art. I know 2 very talented Armenian Artists Joanne Jullian - http://www.joannejulian.comhttp://www.joannejulian.com/images/triptychweb.jpghttp://www.joannejulian.com/images/BlueCarp.jpg http://www.joannejulian.com/images/lillies.jpg And my good friends mother Jasmine Sarabian - http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Gallery/1616/home.htmlSome of our canadian friends from Toronto and Montreal would have seen her works when they go to church as she did the frescoes in both cities. She is most famous for her works on the Parajanov movies and in the states for her painting of Nicole Simpson
Armat
Azat jan, I am very pleased that you love Art specially painting. It is a silent passion and it speaks in ways that other arts simply can't. Azat whoever you'll find as a life partner sure will appreciate your interest in Art. Man is both a thinking and feeling being and I feel we should nourish both of these attributes so we can be whole...- I like the red violent lilies by Joanne Julian. I also love all the artists you mentioned. Boston has great art; let me know if you’re in town.
Sasun
Guys, since you are talking about arts and you seem to know a lot of artists maybe you could help me. Many years ago I saw the photoes the works of a German sculptor. The thing is I don't remember the name exactly. It sounds like Gunter Yuqer, but when I search for this name on the web I can't find anything right (Seems like Google is not as smart yet ). He is quite famous as a modern sculptor. Any ideas? Sasun
You maybe looking for Gunter Uecker Oh, great. That's him. Thanks a lot Armat. I particularly like one of his works with a chair and threads on it. It was very simple and powerful. I will look for it on the web.Since you knew this one you may know also another sculptor, I think even better known than Uecker. Unfortunately, I don't remember his name, David something I guess. He primarily works with metals. His works are (not all, but a lot of them) gold, shiny, curvey, sometimes tall... I guess you are loughing but I just forgot his name but would like to check out his works.
ED
Nice works Armat jan, I'm sure I will make you an offer you can't refuse J/K But seriously, I can't explain it so eloquently maybe like Armat can but... Séance I had laid eyes on Salvador Dali's and Auguste Rodin's works, it has dodged in my mind, I simply fell in love with. None had such an influence on me like does two great artists, Among my fayvorit, Roden's "shadow" which I saw in Toronto few years ago.Armat I want to ask you, what is the name of a Spanish sculptor who has created such a beautiful cathidrals in Barcelona? I can't remember his name.
Azat
Sagrada Familia by Antonio Gaudi. He also has many other great works. lots of cool buildings in Barcelona as well as Parc Gull. If I remember he also built an interesting hospital(in terms of architecture) Was run over by a trolley or a car or something while the cathedral was being built while he was backing up to get a better prospective. The cathedral is still not complete and last I heard was that Barcelonans were trying to raise money to restart the construction to see if they could complete if for the 100 anniversary that is coming up soon Barcelona is a great city and Las Ramblas is the heart of the city. Azat
speaking of great architecture, you guys need to see the incredible building that Frank Ghery just built in LA. The Disney Hall that just had it's opening. Incredible

Stormig
Don't like to paint, prefer pencil (and my art teacher used to "complain" that I held the brush like a pencil).
