Sip
Arthur jan, in case you come back ... Argue[*]To put forth reasons for or against; debate[*]To attempt to prove by reasoning; maintain or contend[*]To give evidence of; indicate[*]To persuade or influence (another), as by presenting reasonsSo which one of those have you been doing again? I am not going to comment about your direct conversations with the others on this board ... but just to keep the record straight, I have never called you any names, been rude, or disrespectful. On the other hand, many times when you face a direct and simple question which seems to undermine your position, you resorted to name calling and/or slander ... that's not arguing! If you want to argue about something intelligent, I am always ready. But don't expect me to change my thinking just because you say so. You have to present a logical, valid argument if you want to be taken seriously by me (or hopefully any other intelligent person on this board). Can you count how many times I have asked something like "Arthur, what to you think about (this and that)" and you have replied by "Oh Sip, grow up" or "Sip you don't make enough money to ask questions like that" or "Sip you are gay" or "Sip you are not serious" or "Sip you are not a true Armenian" or ... I could go on and on! Can you find a single time where I have avoided answering a direct question? I doubt it. So typical. You will condemn others and make all kinds of claims - but when you are presented with your own BS you slink away...I, on the other hand, have no problem answering for my beliefs. And I don't claim that "my way" is the only way or that others must do as I do or even think as I do per se...and I don't claim that all is perfect (here in the West) either...Yet you do these things - until pressed to defend & answer to your silly proclamations. Arturian
I decided to answer anyways. My answers will be very short, i don't have much time. So here it goes. About me assimilating, blushit. The case i was answering was about disgrace, and the biggest disrespect from man towards his wife and children, it is out of question that he is the lowest material on earth and should be dealt with. Women, girls should be educated. Higher education, of course. I seek educated woman, obviosuly. If my family is doing not good, I will allow her to work, if not then there is no reason for that. The opinion of my wife will the most important, we will be discussing many things... You are repeating yourself... If she is not happy, i will explain why it is important as it is all will be for the sake of kids, but I won't be marrying some western girl, so I believe she will understand that Relations between man and woman is about caring and love, children about that as well. But the structure and order should be in everything. I am skipping things about sex. The last passage makes no sence. I said if it is unnecesarry, then woman shouldn't work. If there is a need, then it is ok. But if no, then it is better for her to be with kids. I don't see baby sitting/neighbors etc. etc. a good thing, i would never allow my kids to be raised by strangers! If her husband says no, then it is his decision. I would like my sister doing something which has got nothing to do with money. When she will have her kids her job will be raising her kids. She would have a husband, and she will respect his husband's word. Sip, with that example you sound as a kid, lol. Be serious... Thoth, i do not care about woman of other world etc. But looking at both of you, I want to ask... What is your problem ??? :: )))) Do you envy me or I touched your feeling explaining ways Armenian families operate. Did you know that outside of Armenia in former USSR countries 90% of women in Armenian families do not work. Dudes, you are not even girls to protect yourself. Funny hah? What is it then? Your women, treat you really bad or something? :::::::: )))))))))))))))) Anyways, I have to concentrate on my dissertation. And thoth, do you have anything during the day to do except typing one kilometer posts?

Vayri7X
THOTH, fascists do not have an unchallenged fashion-right to Doc Martens ! They stole it from the anit-fascists- & I hope folks do not to confuse the two I have knee-highs that I've had for several years, with Armenian colors painted on the side . Besides, my style as a woman - if unconventional- is flexible and not limited by the sole objective of trying to please narrow-minded folx. AnoushBabyGirl1
I am sick of reading all of these sexest remarks, but I do want to comment on the original topic. "Pandukht, not sort of uniform, but wear something that suits them. Russian girls dress 5000 times better than English girls or Greek girls here." I'm not really sure how all English girls dress, but Americans have to be the worst dressed people in the world. Some Europeans dress bad (like Greeks, Germans, ect) but Spanish, Italian, and French people all have very good senses of style. In CA, there are a lot of white people who look good but that's only because they have lots of money or wnat to become a model/actress/singer. I would say that Armenians, Russians, Persians, and other immigrants are the best dressed here; for example blacks from Panama all dress very good. Asians also tend to have better sense of style but only certain groups, i.e. Vietnamese, Japanese, Filipinos. Also blacks mixed with white or Asian usually look better than most. Poor white people and Mexicans are the worst. Edited December 1, 2003 by AnoushBabyGirl1
THOTH
I've been very impressed with the women in Europe...how they look and dress that is. I have been frequently all ga ga by gals in Paris and Rome...even the Turkish gals (Ankara mostly) left me with witha very favorable impression...and yeah lots of Americans really dress down (and I certainly do my share...)..and thats unfourtunate...but its not entirely all bad... Sip
I personally like the dress-down look... much more casual and comfortable. I never know what to do around girls that are too fancy and too made up... they make me nervous. Basically afraid I'd mess something up if I accidentally touch something I shouldn't I don't even own a suit and I love it.
angel4hope
agree--haha-funny seaphan-you dont own a suit-thats really funny...im the t shirt and"jeans" type==but mostly sweatshirt hoodie and jeans type-esp at school-cant imagine how some people--esp gals dress in heels and boots to school-w/mini skirts in this cold winter weather--esp outdoors...sure itas scute and all..but..kinda too much for school....if course i wouldnt dress in jeans and a t shirt when i go out 2 a fancy pace but i certainly dont dress 2 fancy either- makes me feel weird-im the kind of person who has a certain comfort zone with everything--esp clothing--

gamavor
European girls, just like Armenian girls have style. I'm not talking about the ones that Arthur was refering to. Those are minority. In Europe people naturaly dress well but in the same time they are relaxed unlike many Armenian girls that really dress nice but they do this as a punch line. I don't want to comment about Americans, because someone might think that I'm anti-American. I'm not.
UKGIRL28
In my opinion, i think French women are very sofisticated in how they dress, and Italian men know how to look good also in their expensive suits! Im half english/half filipino and tend to dress smart casual, whatever you feel comfortable in makes you feel good i supose

Poor white people and Mexicans are the worst. You don't like sexist comments, but there are a fair share of racially motivated statement here. Culture, more than race would affect how ppl dress. Sure racial groups may dress a certain way, but that's because in those cases it's cultural as well. If you grew up in Japan you'd eventually dress like them. If you moved there after your self image was formed, you might float to their side a bit, but never be just like them. I just think you're making some racialized, simplistic statments here, when it's not that easy.
AnoushBabyGirl1
I have a question. Do you think people dress a specific way because of their race? What does race have to do with an individuals personality, sense of style? Who said that race had anything to do with this? Not me. I compared Armenian girls to white girls, didn't I? Aren't we both the same race? I also compared Russians to whites---Russians are white! And I said that Black Panamians have a good sense of style, if I was talking about race then why wouldn't I say all black people? You don't like sexist comments, but there are a fair share of racially motivated statement here. Culture, more than race would affect how ppl dress. Sure racial groups may dress a certain way, but that's because in those cases it's cultural as well. If you grew up in Japan you'd eventually dress like them. If you moved there after your self image was formed, you might float to their side a bit, but never be just like them. I just think you're making some racialized, simplistic statments here, when it's not that easy. None of it is racially motivated, and I already explained why in my post. Of course culture is the most important thing, why do you think that I talked about Japanese and Filipinos in comparison to other Asians, for example Cambodians? Are Cambodians a different race than the Vietnamese? No. But Vietnamese, at least in CA, still dress better. Furthermore I was talking about the people I see in Cali, not in the countries they were born in or originated in. For example, Iran is a poor country, but most of the Persians here have a lot of money. I have no idea how they dress back home, but here they are better-dressed than for example, most white or Mexican people. I don't know why, I'm just stating the facts.
