Welcome a-board!

About marrying other nationalities, I think it is perfectly ok if there are not going to be any childeren involved. IF there will be childeren, I think it is ok mainly in the westernized nations, especially in the United States. Otherwise, the childeren will have a very tough time growing up and will essentially be torn between the two cultures ...

Don't get me wrong, even in the US the kids may have problems if the parents (or their families) are very insistent that the childeren maintain their culture ... but if the couple are open minded and ready to adapt, change, and define their own unique culture, then I see no problem with marrying people of other nations, cultures, races, etc.

Hi everyone

Thank you for responses even though I asked the question but I personally think that our nation should marry with each other that is the way we can stay pure Armenians. Specially in U.S. everyobody are mixed that is the uniqness of being Armenian so we should stay Armenians. I dont consider happy marrige withought children do you? even if you do then we all have our opinions but my bottom line would be We were Armenians, will stay and should maintain our culture and religion.

THank you all

if the parents are very insistent that the childeren maintain their culture then they won't mary a non-armenian. of course, unless the non-armenian partner is "armenianized" him/herself.

in general, i think interethnical marriages are ok, but very complicated.

after all there is more to marriage than just sex and care. you will have to live possiblely whole your life with that person. and if you don't enjoy the same music and food, if you don't have similar lifestyles, if you don't have similar viewpoints on life, if you don't enjoy the same things in life, if you don't appriciate the same things about life, if you don't have the same religion, if you don't have the same child upbringing proccess, etc etc etc, then it will get really complicated.

I know it's a very dangerous thing to say on an "Armenian" forum ... but I'll say it anyway! I really don't see anything wrong or bad with being "mixed". I really don't.

Sure being Armenian has a lot of good stuff associated with it. But so is being almost any other nationality. I personally see a lot of value in being able to pick and choose all the best qualities and things from each different nation, and discarding the bad stuff. I guess you could say, I want to be a "cafeteria nationality" smilies/lol.gif (going along the buffet of all nations, and picking up anything that I like!)

About "happy" marriage ... can there really be a "happy" marriage? Happy relative to what? Yes, maybe there can be a HAPPIER marriage with childeren than without childeren. But I really don't think there can be a trully "happy" marriage. It simply requires too much sacrifice for too little gain.

Hi Seaphan

I have no problem either with mixed people most of my friends are not Armenians but my point is I prefer marrying to my own nation then to a forighner I guess me and you do not have the same opinion because I still have my deep Armeinan thinking and I am assuming that you lived in U.S for a quite long time and I dont see anything wrong with that. I agree that you learn stuff which are interesting, and also challenging. I do not descriminate anyone in this world GOD SAKE MY FRINDS ARE WITNESS TO THIS BUT AS I MENTIONED ONCE I WOULD LIKE TO CONTIONUE MY NATIONAL BLOOD.

Well, apart from the general benefit of 'the more (Armenians) the better'. These days marriages are complicated matters and many dont last. A mixedmarriage would just be another source of arguments and misunderstanding, because of cultural and other differences (basically pointed out by Harut).

Dear Qristine, Welcome to HyeForum.

Are we kidding ourselves or do we think that we can continue to be Armenians in the US or Australia or Canada or any other country but Armenia. Maybe we should ask it is it worth all the sacrifices to continue to be an Armenian or marry and an Armenian. I like Sip think it does not matter and over the long run(maybe 100 years) the only people who will be known as Armenians will be the people who live in Armenia, rest of us will be Americans(for those of us in the US) and only when someone asks where out great great grandparents are from we will say Armenian.

Sip, I like this cafeteria style marriage you are talking about. Where do I go to get married like that?

I strongly disagree with you, what is the matter with you. what you mean by if we don’t live in Armenia then we are not Armenians maybe it is true in your case (not maybe but for sure) but it never is in my or anyone who thinks like Armenian so it is obvious that you are willing to betray your own nationality, because you don’t live in Armenia

So what I am trying to say don’t make up stupid and nonsense rules or what ever you want to call it. Did you even read what you wrote? because it doesnt seem like it.

bye

Hi Azat

thank you for the warm welcoming.

Well I guess I dont have anything to say after all if you think that way then go head. I dont think enybody can stop you to think that way but I am perfectly fine with it. We all have our own views and our own thinking ways. But it is sad to see that our Armenians changed because of you are in different country it does not have to change your identity. I am proud to be Armenian and continue my love for Armenians. The other issue in your case might be that you are a not female so from your point of view you basically might not expeince the way females will because you are the man of the houshold. Anyways being desagree with me will never stop me to think it differently neither do I can make you think differently so I do not feel offende say whatever you think and consider is right. Good luck

Varduhi and Qristine jan,

as allready quite apparent to you, many (actually the majority) of the active forumers at HyeForum dont think like the 'conventional Armenian'. They are however intelligent and able to come up with powerful arguments, so my only hope is they dont sway you from your current correct (IMO) position. But watch them swarm all over you like a pack of hyenas, escpessially look out for the one they call Winston (THOTH)....LOL

Varduhi, you may disagree with me, but it is reality. Show me one Armenian who says that they are Armenian after 5 generations in a foreign country.(I know you will find one or two as it is those exceptions that make the rule) but in general after 3 or 4 or 5 or 10 or 20 generations we all become Americans.

That is all I was trying to say. I am sorry if I offended you.

By the way, I live my life as an Armenian more than most others who are around me in LA. It is not me that I am talking about, but generations after me.

Dear Qristine, While I agree that it is sad, but it does not change reality. Please take a look around of the generation that came to the states 30 or 40 years ago and see how many have assimilated with others. Now imagine in another 30 or 40 years or maybe a 100 years, do you think my or your great grands kids are going to have the same feelings that you and I have for Armenia and Armenians? Few will, I am sure, but most wont.

i do too. I have only been in the US for 22, 23 years. But I have relatives in Armenia and I go back there to visit, I keep up on things there, but I already consider US as my home. I currently do not have plans to ever go back to Armenia on a permanent basis.

By the way, I did not mean to offend anyone on this board, quiet the opposite, I am happy to see new members like you guys join our forum and hope to learn something from everyone.

Hey juggs, are you always looking for ways to cause trouble? And it is not Thoth that they should watch out for but that Harut who appears everywhere where there are beautiful women.

Take care

Azat

Hi Azat

I don't feel offended becasue in our life none of us think the same way isn't that right? So dont even think about it it is just great to see that there are some people who do not think the way I do and it is a great experince for me to get you know better. Well I agree that it is hard to find Armenians who have been here for a quite bit but what I am trying to say is we should maintain that if we do then you will see first of all Many new generation of Armenians. But we can't see a lot of them because they got married with other nations and lost basically being Armenian. So I perfectly understand what you are saying but in order to maintain our roots we should stay with our nation. I am not sure about your case maybe you are married to an American that's why you think a little different. If it is then thats great if you are happy. But still if we get involved with Armenians then we will became many of them.

Dear Accelerated

I don't affraid if someone is going to kick me out from this forum because of my different way of thinking. And of course intellegent person will never do that, however, we all know that we have our own ways to see the life from our perspective.

Thank you alll
