And the opposite, disappointment consciously or unconsciously brings negative sentiments, nasty words, bad attitude, ignorant remarks, etc.. Some people go to extremes which makes things even worst. In very rare cases, one might develop such negative treads of his character as fixtures, as a result of long and continuous mistreatment from the opposite sex, for example.
