ARMENIA NOT INTERESTED IN PEACEFUL RESOLUTION TO CONFLICT - AZERI PRESIDENT

Interfax

Dec 1 2010

Russia

Yerevan is deliberately escalating its conflict with Baku, said

Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev.

"Instead of holding talks in the atmosphere of goodwill to resolve the

conflict within the shortest possible period of time, Armenia prefers

to follow the path of escalating the conflict with unpredictable

consequences," he said at a plenary session of the OSCE summit in

Astana on Wednesday.

"[Armenia] constantly violates the ceasefire, holds military drills

in occupied territories, tries to change the historical names of

occupied towns and villages, organizes illegal civilian settlements

in the occupied territory, trying to make the situation irreversible

and the peaceful process pointless," the Azeri president said.

"Armenia's behavior at the talks is making us think that Armenia is

not aspiring to peace, not aspiring to the liberation of occupied

territories, but would rather want to preserve the status quo for

a long period of time and make the negotiating process pointless,"

Aliyev said.

Azerbaijani expert: 2011 will be decisive for Armenian statehood

06.01.2011 16:34 Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 6 / Trend M.Aliyev /

2011 will be decisive for the Armenian statehood, Political Innovation

and Technology Center head Mubariz Ahmadoglu said at a news conference

today.

"Most of the events that occurred in Armenia in 2010 were negative and

the unresolved. Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is in the center of it all,"

Ahmadoglu said.

He said over the past year, a number of problems became evident in

Armenia, including a demographic crisis, assimilation of the Diaspora,

price increase on the background of economic crisis, problems in the

military.

There were quite tense moments for the Armenian authorities, Ahmadoglu

said, citing the differences arising between the parliamentary speaker

and president as example.

"In 2010, one of the most important events in Armenia is the gathering

of a terrorist organization ASALA in the country. This meeting has

negatively affected the socio-political life of the country and led to

the weakening of the Armenian Diaspora in the U.S. and Russia,"

Ahmadoglu said.

He said the OSCE Minsk Group should draw conclusions from the fact

that Armenia is controlled by a terrorist organization and understand

that the party, which unleashed the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, avoids

a peaceful solution to this problem.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988,

when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian

armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992,

including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994, with the

co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, comprising Russia, France, and the

U.S., currently holding the peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four

resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding

regions.

“Googoosh was invited to give concerts in Azerbaijan. However, the organizers said she refused to perform in Azerbaijan stressing she intends to give a concert in Armenia. Honestly, we should think over whether we need arrival of an Azerbaijani singer who does not attach importance to the fact that Azerbaijan is at war with Armenia and sings Armenian songs,” Azerbaijani journalists write

Official Ankara is aware psychological barriers are not easy to overcome so it is going to take an active part in the April 24 commemorations. Turkey believes Armenian-Turkish protocols reached a stalemate because of the psychological barrier. However, they will be put into practice, Sabah reports.

Ankara set itself a task to take steps to help get over the psychological blows. This year, the first ever time, Turkey has sent its representative to commemorate the Holocaust victims. Turkish State Minister was the first high-ranking Turkish official to visit Auschwitz.

Turkish authorities want to show a similar approach on April 24, calling for active participation in Armenians-held events.

In this context, at its sitting last December the Turkish National Security Council, made a decision on developing ties with the Armenian community by taking part in Armenians-held events.

To establish ties with the Armenian people Turkey will first of all try to establish a dialogue with the Armenian community.

The Armenian Diaspora will also be involved in the Armenian-Turkish reconciliation process. Turkey has lifted the political boycott of the countries that recognized the Armenian Genocide. Evidence thereof is the fact that the Turkish President recently met with his Argentine counterpart. The Canadian Minister of International Trade, as well as officials of other countries that recognized the Armenian Genocide, are to visit Turkey soon.

The Armenian Genocide resolution is expected to be put on the U.S. Congress agenda again. Official Ankara will not have the Obama administration take any steps to the detriment of Turkey-U.S. relations.

Israel threatened Azerbaijan to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a decree, which approved the agreement between Azerbaijan’s MFA and State of Palestine disposal of material-technical support to Palestinian Embassy in Baku.

“Pia.az” informs that the agreement was signed on January 31 in Baku. The phrase “State of Palestine” is underscored in the agreement. Official Baku used not to define “Palestine” though has been supporting the idea in the international organizations.

Having signed that decree Ilham Aliyev approved Azerbaijan recognizes Palestine. A “Pia.az” source told that the Israeli party appeared with touch counteract for Baku.

“The reason to cease the activities of Israeli Embassy in Azerbaijan was that fact. Israel threatened Azerbaijan who establishes relations with Palestine.”

Israeli MFA addressed a message to Azerbaijan saying that Israel would recognize Nagorno-Karabakh if Baku didn’t revise its policy.

They come in all shapes, colors and ethnicities, all the way from Indiana to Italia. All the way from so called evangelical nuts to spaced out space-moon walkers. Buzz Aldrin? I think his brain was “buzzed” out in space. And now this Italian “nut-cracker”?

In the Italian nut=noce (pr. nocheh) Did this Italian nut also compose the tune of Mer Hayrenik? :)

I don’t know what version of the Bible they are reading. Nowhere in the Bible it is said that the Ark rested on Masis Sar. Read it again "mounatainS” of Ararat is in the plural. They ignore the fact that in that Land there were other mountains like Sipan and Maratouk.

Gen.8

[4] And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.

And of course our genius translators would ignore the pluralizing S above and attribute the passage to the most prominent peak in the region..

Biblical Hebrew אררט

Just as any other Semitic script it is read from right to left.

Therefore the first from right is the so called alef=A, the two following are supposed to be resh=R and the last is supposed to taw=T. Drat!!! Where are the other vowels?

אררט ... Greek: Αραράτ =(Ararat)

Where does this Noce Italiano talk about real Armenian History and Culture except for reference to Kurds and other turds. And, we have to regale that some other nut speaks about us? On a positive note, at least he uses the A word and G word.

Azerbaijan A Model of Tolerance - Aliyev

April 07, 2011

BAKU -- Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said today his country can

serve as an example to the world of national and religious tolerance,RFE/RL's Azerbaijani Service reports.

Addressing the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku, Aliyev

said "everyone lives like one family in Azerbaijan. No national or

religious confrontations or misunderstandings have existed here. We

give preference to ensuring national and religious tolerance in

Azerbaijan at the state level."

Some 435 people from 20 countries are participating in the forum,

which lasts until April 9.

Attendees at the forum include Parliamentary Assembly of the Council

of Europe President Mevlut Cavusoglu, Islamic Educational, Scientific

and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) Director-General Abdulaziz bin

Osman al-Tuveycri, and former Council of Europe Secretary-General

Walter Schwimmer.

The Baku forum is an initiative of the Azerbaijani government with the

support of the Council of Europe, the North-South Centre, UNESCO, the

UN Alliance of Civilizations, and ISESCO.

Despite President Aliyev's claims, however, Azerbaijan's record

regarding ethnic and religious tolerance is not spotless.

Azerbaijan has had problems with some of its minority ethnic groups,

For example, the Lezgin, Talysh, and Avar minorities complain

periodically of being forcibly assimilated by state officials.

Aliyev also did not mention in his speech the ethnic conflict between

Azerbaijanis and Armenians that centers on the dispute over the

breakaway Azerbaijani region of Nagorno-Karabakh, which is controlled

by Armenians.

In February 1988, outraged Azerbaijanis responded to Armenian calls

for the transfer of the then-Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast of the

Soviet Union to Armenian jurisdiction by killing dozens of Armenians

in a three-day rampage in the coastal city of Sumgayit.

Hundreds of thousands of ethnic Armenians fled Azerbaijan during the

six-year war over Karabakh, while similar numbers of Azerbaijanis fled

Karabakh and adjoining regions of Azerbaijan that were taken by

Armenian forces.

Additionally, in the past decade, authorities in the Azerbaijani

exclave of Naxcivan have been accused of destroying ancient Armenian

cemeteries.

The U.S. State Department wrote in its most recent Religious Freedom

report that Azerbaijan enforces "legal restrictions on religious

freedom" that include bans on "the call to prayer in some areas." It

says the government has also demolished and closed mosques, raided

religious communities, and confiscated religious literature.

It said Jehovah's Witnesses and unsanctioned Muslim groups "were often

targets" of harassment.

Meanwhile, the Baku-based opposition group Republican Alternative

today quoted Council of Europe Secretary-General Thorbjorn Jagland as

saying in a letter to Aliyev last month that the "intercultural

dialogue" at the Baku forum would benefit Azerbaijanis only if

Cavusoglu's participation results in the release of jailed Azerbaijani

journalist Eynulla Fatullayev.

The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg has ordered that

Fatullayev, who international rights groups say is being held on

trumped-up charges because of his political activities, be released

and paid compensation by the government.

75 year old grandmother surgically severs fiber optic cables? One wonders if she can surgically trim her fingernails.

Here is her picture;

http://www.reporter.am/images/StandardImage/IMG_0153.jpg

Note her alleged fictional name- Hayastan Shakarian?? :goof:

And you thought the biggest comedians of the region lived in the west of Arax River or the east of Artsakh. Look who is competing for first place. :jester:

---

Yesterday;

http://news.am/eng/news/54563.html

Georgian press reported that Hayastan Shakaryan damaged cable connecting Armenia to the global network.

An old woman from Georgia denies any accusation. “Look at me, could I damage a cable in a gorge?” 75 years old woman said.

http://news.am/eng/news/54620.html

YEREVAN. - Three out of four cables connecting Armenia to the global network were damaged in Georgia twice over the recent 16 days.

The last damage cut off majority of the Armenian internet users. Three days later Georgian sources reported it was caused by Hayastan Shakaryan, a 75 years old woman of Armenian origin. Georgian Internal Ministry said the woman was looking for copper near the village of Ksani on March 28 and damaged fiber optic cable.

All the mentioned events could still happen but there are certain facts that cast doubt on disclosure by the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs. Firstly, the cable was damaged at the section having strategic importance from the viewpoint of information security.

Secondly, Georgians note that the woman was looking for copper but forgot that fiber optic backbone cable is made of fiber optic, not copper.

Another point is whether 75-year-old woman is physically capable to digging in and removing a cable. The arrested woman also claimed she could not. If we imagine that she managed to do it then she had to spend the whole day digging and removing it. In this case why was this fact neglected by Georgian controllers who are ensuring security of a key junction providing considerable part of Armenia and Georgia with the internet?

Finally, Georgian Internal Ministry named the suspect only three days after she was arrested. Why were they concealing her name for three days?

The case resembles a farce especially after part of cables connecting Armenia to the World Wide Web was damaged again on April 7. This time Georgian side failed to find “grandma looking for copper”.

Surprisingly, the Armenian officials responsible for information security are still silent. Neither National Security Council, nor other institution issued any statement commenting on these events. One gets an impression that those responsible for information security do not understand importance of the internet both for the state and population.

Once such an accident occurs overseas, joint inter-governmental groups are set up to investigate causes of the damage and assesses financial losses.

In this case governmental institutions should protect interests of the internet operators functioning in Armenia, as legally this case is considered force majeure and companies cannot protect their interest in courts.

Armenian institutions should clearly explain to Georgian neighbors that ensuring of Armenia’s internet security should be perfectly fulfilled.

Presently Armenia is connected to the internet through 6 foreign channels – four in Georgia and two in Iran.

Armenia, where they can be kidnapped by Hizballah and Hamas

terrorists.

The decision was evidently prompted by the countries' vicinity with

Iran, according to IzRus portal. Armenia and Georgia were also put on

the previous list of dangerous countries issued in February 2011.

Erdogan insults not French MP but descendent of Armenian Genocide survivors

http://news.am/pic/news/55481.jpg

April 15, 2011 | 10:04

French parliamentarian who asked question and got a sharp response from Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in PACE turned to be of Armenian origin.

Muriel Marland-Militello is a granddaughter of Armenian Genocide survivor. Militello told Turkish NTV channel that her grandmother and grandfather lived in Istanbul before 1915. Her grandfather’s name was Seyran (Armenian name). In 1915 they were warned about future events and managed to escape, she said.

Commenting on Erdogan’s response French MP said he made a mistake answering so.

“From the very first sentence I understood that he said something insulting French people. I did not reply as such conduct is disrespectful in PACE,” she said.

French parliamentarian asked Erdogan a question about protection of religious minorities in Turkey.

“You are speaking about something you are not aware of," Turkish premier said, "You are clearly French, in Turkey you are French too (in Turkish, when somebody does not know something or speaks out of context, it is said that they are from France).”

Armenian wild pigs vs. Turks?

April 18, 2011 | 11:17

Wild pigs caused serious concern in Turkish province of Igdir, fleeing to the territory of Turkey from Armenia by the Araks River.

The animals fled to Turkey because of fires on the Armenian side and damaged crops in villages of Tuzluca district, Internethaber website reports. Turkish hunters went on hunting them.

The villagers’ statements that Armenians set fires deliberately to send pigs to Turkey are at least absurd.

THE WAR IN NAGORNO-KARABAKH IS POSTPONED FOR A YEAR

DEFENSE and SECURITY

June 1, 2011 Wednesday

Russia

Source: Argumenty Nedeli, No. 20, May 26 - June 01, 2011, p. 2

[translated from Russian]

VICTORY OF AZERBAIJAN IN EUROVISION 2011 CONTEST POSTPONED THE

PROSPECT OF RESOLVING OF THE NAGORNO-KARABAKH CONFLICT BY THE MILITARY

WAY?; Situation related to Nagorno-Karabakh was relieved a little

lately. Although separate firing exchanges do happen on the frontline,

analysts presume that a big war between Azerbaijan and Armenia is

postponed at least for a year.

Situation related to Nagorno-Karabakh was relieved a little lately.

Although separate firing exchanges do happen on the frontline,

analysts presume that a big war between Azerbaijan and Armenia is

postponed at least for a year.

The main reason is the unexpected victory of Baku in Eurovision 2011

contest. According to the rules of this song contest, a year later

Azerbaijan will have to receive the contest at home. The country

does not come to the top of international news very often and that

is why experts do not doubt that Baku will not wish to miss such rare

opportunity to pose its country in a better light.

Authorities of Azerbaijan will definitely use Eurovision for propaganda

of their stance regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh problem. A similar

thing already happened during Eurovision in Moscow in 2009.

Then Azerbaijanis noticed images of historic monuments located on the

territory of Nagorno-Karabakh in the video of Armenia and started a

loud scandal.

If the contest passes successfully, Baku hopes to increase its rating

in the international mass media. This will be very good in case

of a military clash. Besides, according to military experts, the

country is not prepared for a war fully yet and needs to reinforce

the air defense. That is why Baku is patiently conducting drawn out

negotiations on purchase of Russian systems S-300.

In any case, people in Yerevan do not believe in a long postponement

of a war very much. Already next day after Eurovision 2011 President

of Armenia S. Sargsian announced that Azerbaijan might start a war

in Nagorno-Karabakh, "There are probably plans connected with even

bigger accumulation of forces and means to try to start a new military

reckless enterprise at a convenient moment." Nonetheless, Armenians

try not to provoke the neighbors. Analysts said that because of this

and not because of a fear to be shod down Sargsian cancelled the flight

of his airplane to the new airport of Stepanakert planned for May 9.

Scandal at Venice Biennale - Azeri president thought Muslim minaret resembles phallus

June 09, 2011 | 15:31

The world art community spoke about the fact of political censorship in Azerbaijani art after two sculptures at the Venice Art Biennale were closed for viewers under instruction of President Ilham Aliyev.

It was later decided to remove two sculptures by Aidan Salakhova from the pavilion, the Russian Nezavisimay Gazeta writes.

Beral Madra, the Azerbaijan pavilion curator for the Venice Biennale, issued an official statement announcing the sculptures were removed.

Beral Madra said that she and Chingiz Farzaliev commissar and local curator have discussed with the authorities and responsible people of the pavilion and explained that removing the sculpture will mean “censorship” and it will do more harm to the image of the country than the sculpture itself.

Two sculptures were covered up after Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev visited the pavilion. President considers the marble sculpture “Bride” – a woman cloaked in a black veil is of Islamist character. Another one, depicting Black Stone of Mecca, an Islamic religious relic, was called “insulting Islam”.

The same applied to works on paper showing sexual images in the context of religion, for instance, a woman holding minaret resembling a phallic symbol.

It was officially reported that the sculptures were covered up “because of being damaged while transported”, the newspaper writes.

Kicking Women

We should not allow Iran to degrade international standards in any arena, including sports

by Dokhi Fassihian

10-Jun-2011

FIFA's decision to ban Iranian women footballers from a game against Jordan last Sunday because they wore headscarves and not the approved cap had soccer lovers in a fit of rage all week. They accuse FIFA for being "agents" of their repression and of "Western" discrimination against Muslims.

Please.

Alyssa Rosenberg of Think Progress compares the situation to the rejection of multiculturalism in Western Europe. She writes, "f we're really concerned with how women are perceived and treated in Muslim communities, it seems hugely counterproductive to adopt policies that force women to choose between abiding by the tenets of their faith and participating in activities that let them demonstrate their physical prowess and strategic intelligence."

Say what? How do we even know these women's faith? Iranian citizens have no right to choose their faith. Iranian women have no choice in dress. Some don't have a choice in husband, or to divorce. There is no religious freedom in Iran. There is no freedom of expression. We actually have no idea how many Iranians are actually Muslim, yet we certainly know that no Iranian women -- Muslim or not -- can choose not to wear the hijab even if they don't believe in it. Most of those footballers would take it off if they could, as would most Iranian women, but they would face lashing and jail. I wonder how Ms. Rosenberg would feel living in a country that forced her to think and dress a certain way against her will, or does she think that kind of life is the reserve of only some women. Would she want the world to push back against that treatment, or let her play soccer on unequal and potentially dangerous footing?

David Zirin writes in Al Jazeera that the FIFA decision feeds "profound Western ignorance regarding the position of Iranian women since the Islamic revolution." He describes the improved literacy rate since 1979 (does he honestly expect a nation of 70 million to go backward over a span of three decades?). He also points out that one out of three Iranian doctors is a woman. Oh well, that settles it then! Things can't be that bad for women in Iran since they can be doctors! How is it then that most Iranian women I know desperately wish to leave their country today? That things are good for them is news to my cousin who last month snatched her 14-year-old daughter and left Iran for San Francisco after the regime started mandating different textbooks for girls than those used for boys to start rolling back hard-won progress in education.

Since last week, Iranian traffic cops have been authorized to harass and fine women for failing to wear "Islamic" dress, which means a few strands of hair showing on their forehead. Iranian women's rights activists, which have worked peacefully for decades to gain many of the basic human rights they lost after the 1979 revolution -- such as the right to wear what they want, equal rights in education, work, marriage, and child custody -- have been charged with national security crimes. Women like Nasrin Sotoudeh, Shiva Nazar-Ahari, Maryam Bahreman , Mahboubeh Karami -- have all been sent to notorious Iranian prisons for peaceful human rights activities. The pro-democracy Green Movement -- modeled, and in many ways, led by Iranian women -- was brutally suppressed in 2009.

Let's get some clarity on a few things. First, the regime running Iran should get no credit for the advancement of women. That credit goes to the progressive people of that country for resisting and circumventing a fanatical government which has made every attempt to block their progress by putting them on unequal footing. Forced hijab is the most powerful symbol of that policy. Second, Iran should not be considered an Islamic state -- whatever that means. A prerequisite for a person to be a true Muslim is free choice and since Iran doesn't allow that opportunity to its people, it fails the Islam test. Today, Iran is a brutal dictatorship with misogynist leanings using the guise of "religion" to stay in power. Forcing a headscarf on a women while playing a grueling game like soccer is not Islamic. It's ideological tyranny. Rejecting headscarves on the pitch for safety reasons is anything but Islamophobia.

It becomes deeply disconcerting when free-thinking people start drinking the Islamic Republic's Kool Aid by using the concept of "culture" and "religion" to provide justification for the violations of the rights of women. Western observers should be far more careful in their analysis of these societies, which are all different. Only a few countries in the world force women to wear hijab against their will and Iran happens to be one of them. We should be careful not to accept the definition of a nation's culture sold to us by non-democratic regimes. There is a reason why such oppression in a country like Iran exists, and it is usually because that "culture" is imposed.

One might say that these issues are unrelated to sports and the right to participate in international sporting events should still stand, notwithstanding politics or human rights. Fine, but only if governments and teams abide by the rules. Iran does not. As usual, it tried to bend the rules. There is no reason that international organizations should adhere to the Iranian regime's demands when it breaks the rules and it has harmed the mental and psychological health of its women and men through three decades of gender apartheid and discrimination. The Iranian government has recently declared that it does not agree to universal human rights standards as set out in international treaties and plans to challenge them globally and promote their own "Islamic" version, which denies religious freedom, gender equality, and freedom of expression. Of course, the input of their people will likely not be solicited since Iran's human rights organizations have all been shuttered and their activists and lawyers jailed or exiled.

Make no mistake about it, gender apartheid in Iran is as damaging to that society as racial apartheid was to South Africa. It is time for the world to recognize it as such. The UN has declared that the lack of equality between men and women is the root cause of violence against women. The world should not legitimize institutionalized violence against women which is exactly what forced hijab is.

Put blame where the blame should be. The unfair treatment of women in Iran today is that country's biggest shame. Let the Iranian people deal with the consequences of their government's flouting of international rules and reckless approach to the health of their women. As much as all of us want Iran's women to play the beautiful game, they should play safely and freely and we should help them get there by calling their government out. We should not allow the Iranian government to deflect blame for its abuse of women, and we should also not allow it to erode international standards in any arena, including sport.

Aliyev Continues to Revise History

Azeri president Ilham Aliyev

BAKU (APA)—Azeri President Ilham Aliyev, in remarks Tuesday to the World Azerbaijani Congress, claimed that Yerevan and Zangezur were Azeri lands that were “granted” to Armenia, adding that Azerbaijan would spare no effort, including military, to ensure what he called its territorial integrity.

“Armenia knows very well that they are guests in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Armenian state was established in historical Azerbaijani land – Yerevan and Zangazur. The Turkic world was geographically separated, as Zangazur was given to Armenia,” said Aliyev while pledging to continue the talks.

Aliyev added that ensuring Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity is one of the major issues facing the country.

In his speech he noted that international organizations had passed resolutions on the Karabakh problem, which remained unfulfilled because of what he described as Armenia’s “unconstructive position”.

“Yerevan has to understand that Azerbaijan’s potential cannot be compared with Armenia’s capability. Azerbaijan’s economic potential is ten times greater than Armenia’s economic potential. Armenia has no power to compete with Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan’s military expenditure is 50 percent more than Armenia’s budget,” the president said, echoing remarks made in his speech at a military parade on June 26, Armed Forces Day.
