The article says that Mongolia has a population problem and women far outnumber men. Moreover majority of the male population seems to have alcoholism problem which hurts the economy. They want 20.000 Turkish males to balance the men/women ratio and also they think hardworking Turkish males will knock some sense into Mongolian men. As for why they have chosen Turkey; the article tells that Mongolians regard Turks as their 3rd neighbors, because of historical connections. A council will be arriving next month to discuss the issue.

ARMENIAN PREMIER CANCELS VISIT TO ISRAEL DUE TO POSSIBLE ARREST

Tigran Sargsyan "Tigran Sargsyan has canceled his visit to Israel

due to possible arrest."

Armenian Premier Tigran Sargsyan has canceled his visit to Israel

due to possible arrest, according to Aykakan Zhamanak.

Officially, the prime minister was said to have a high temperature

due to which he was obliged to cancel the visit.

The newspaper refers to sources in the government saying Sargsyan has

canceled his visit due to "smear acts" while being the head of the

Central Bureau, in particular, money laundering via the banking system

of Armenia and transfer of a part of it to the Arabic countries. These

amounts could be used to finance international terrorism, the newspaper

reads. Israel is well aware of the smeary acts by Sargsyan, therefore,

the Armenian leadership recommended him to cancel the visit to avoid

possible arrest.

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has survived an attack from the 21st century citizen's weapon of choice - the shoe.

The Prime Minister had been in Seville, Spain on Monday evening when the attack happened. The shoe missed its intended target and hit a bodyguard.

The 20-year-old assailant was swiftly detained. According to reports, the man was of Syrian descent and was shouting "Viva Kurdistan" as he carried out the attack. Turkey's state-owned Anatolian news agency reported he was heavily intoxicated.

The attack comes just days after Turkey was forced to arrest 50 military commanders in what most believe was a coup plot.

ARMENIA HAS NO INTENTION TO RECONCILE WITH TURKEY

Trend

March 4 2010

Azerbaijan

Armenia has no intention to reconcile with Turkey. Its aim is to

crush Turkey "from inside", the President of the Center for Political

Innovation and Technology Mubariz Ahmedoglu said to press conference

held at the press center of Trend News Agency.

"Starting normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey,

Armenia has shown that it may at any time come closer to Turkey upon

the order of the West. At present, the main task of Armenian is to

oust Russia from the South Caucasus region. In exchange, Armenia will

receive much greater reward from the West," said Ahmedoglu.

Turkey and Armenia signed two protocols on October 10, 2009 to

normalize relations between the two countries. After his official

visit to Moscow, the Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan

said in Ankara in December that this process is directly related to

the solution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, despite that some people

have argued that the Turkish-Armenian relations are separate from

the Nagorno-Karabakh.

After the adoption of protocols, Armenia's Constitutional Court said

that there is no need to establish a joint commission to investigate

events that occurred in 1915 in the Ottoman Empire and that Armenia

would never back down from demands of recognition of "genocide."

According to Ahmedoglu, all the processes occurring in the Caucasus

are directed against Russia. The aim here is to get Russia to withdraw

from the South Caucasus.

"In these processes, Armenia has a special role. Relations between

Russia and Armenia have become very tense. Armenia now turned to

China," said the political scientist.

11-year-old spends $44 million on Dubai homes

Boy's shopping spree puts spotlight on alleged corruption in Azerbaijan

Image: Aerial view of residences on Palm Jumeirah

Records indicate the son of Azerbaijan's president may have bought

nine waterfront mansions on Palm Jumeirah, Dubai's luxury real estate

development pictured here.

By Andrew Higgins

updated 11:37 p.m. PT, Thurs., March. 4, 2010

DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES - Even by the standards of a city that

celebrates extravagance, it was a spectacular shopping spree: In just

two weeks early last year, an 11-year-old boy from Azerbaijan became

the owner of nine waterfront mansions.

The total price tag: about $44 million -- or roughly 10,000 years'

worth of salary for the average citizen of Azerbaijan. But the preteen

who owns a big chunk of some of Dubai's priciest real estate seems to

be anything but average.

His name, according to Dubai Land Department records, is Heydar

Aliyev, which just happens to be the same name as that of the son of

Azerbaijan's president, Ilham Aliyev. The owner's date of birth,

listed in property records, is also the same as that of the

president's son.

Officials in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, declined to comment on

how the president's son -- or at least an Azerbaijani schoolboy with

the same birth date and the same name as the son's -- came to own

mansions on Palm Jumeirah, a luxury real estate development popular

with multimillionaire British soccer stars and others with cash to

burn. Ilham Aliyev's annual salary as president is the equivalent of

$228,000, far short of what is needed to buy even the smallest Palm

property.

Azer Gasimov, the president's spokesman, declined to discuss the Dubai

real estate purchases. "I have no comment on anything. I am stopping

this talk. Goodbye," he said when contacted by telephone and told

about the names on the property records. Gasimov did not respond to

requests for further comment sent by fax, e-mail and cellphone text

message.

Azerbaijan, a former Soviet republic blessed with plentiful oil and

gas reserves yet blighted by widespread poverty outside its glitzy

capital, has long had a reputation for corruption. But the Dubai

purchases, which have not been reported before, could provide a rare

concrete example of just how much money the country's governing elite

has amassed and of the ways in which at least part of this wealth has

been stashed overseas.

'Pervasive corruption' The transactions sharpen a dilemma that has

shadowed Washington's relations with Azerbaijan for years: how to

reconcile the United States' security and energy interests in the

oil-rich Caspian Sea nation with what the State Department, in a

report last year on human rights around the world, described as the

"pervasive corruption" of its increasingly authoritarian regime.

Azerbaijan has sent troops to support U.S. democracy-building efforts

in Afghanistan and Iraq but at home has retreated steadily from

democratic practices, according to diplomats and experts on the

region. Transparency International, in a 2009 survey of global

corruption, ranked Azerbaijan among the worst at 143 out of 180

nations.

In addition to recording nine properties owned by Heydar Aliyev, the

now-12-year-old schoolboy, Dubai's Land Department also has files in

the names of Leyla and Arzu Aliyeva. President Aliyev has two

daughters with the same names and roughly the same ages. Their exact

dates of birth could not be established, but various reports indicate

Leyla's birthday is the same as that of the Azerbaijani woman who

figures in the Land Department records.

In all, Azerbaijanis with the same names as the president's three

children own real estate in Dubai worth about $75 million, property

data indicate. Dubai real estate dealers with knowledge of some of the

transactions said the purchases were made by a buyer representing

Azerbaijan's ruling family. The dealers said the properties were paid

for upfront.

Ali Kerimli, chairman of the Azerbaijani Popular Front, an opposition

party, said in a telephone interview, "We all know that our country is

one of the most corrupt." But when told about the Dubai purchases, he

added that he was surprised at the apparent lack of effort to conceal

them.

Azerbaijan's leaders, Kerimli said, "face no danger" because the

judiciary, anti-corruption bodies and most of the country's media

outlets are firmly under their control.

'Resource curse'

The rush to move assets overseas, often with scant regard for returns,

is a common feature of many oil-producing nations, where corrupt

elites seek to ensure that their wealth is safe just in case political

winds at home change. The phenomenon is part of the "resource curse,"

an ailment that has deformed the economies and politics of

corruption-addled, oil-producing nations from Nigeria to Venezuela.

Kerimli said Washington paid too much attention to security and energy

issues and thus "sent a signal to our country that democratic reform

is not important." When Richard B. Cheney visited Baku as vice

president in 2008, he not only held talks with President Aliyev

focused on energy but also met with executives of BP and the U.S. oil

company Chevron, both of which have operations in Azerbaijan, as do

Exxon and other foreign oil companies. Azerbaijan and the United

States, Cheney said, "have many interests in common."

The Obama administration has also focused on strategic issues in its

relations with Azerbaijan. On a visit to Baku two weeks ago, William

J. Burns, undersecretary of state for political affairs, praised

Azerbaijan for supporting the United States in Afghanistan and

trumpeted the role of a U.S.-backed oil pipeline from Baku to Turkey

that broke Russia's stranglehold on energy exports from the Caspian

Sea.

In a speech, Burns avoided direct criticism of Azerbaijan, noting

only: "We also believe that the strengthening of democratic

institutions, rule of law and respect for human rights will have a

positive effect on the future of this country."

The Aliyev government and its supporters, meanwhile, have tried to

burnish Azerbaijan's image, sponsoring trips to Baku by prominent

foreigners and hiring lobbyists to trumpet the country's achievements.

David Plouffe, President Obama's former election campaign manager,

visited Baku last year to deliver a paid-for speech; a few months

later came former British prime minister Tony Blair, who also received

a fee to speak. Plouffe declined to comment about his trip.

Lost Jewish tribe 'found in Zimbabwe'

By Steve Vickers

BBC News, Harare

In many ways, the Lemba tribe of Zimbabwe and South Africa are just like their neighbours.

But in other ways their customs are remarkably similar to Jewish ones.

They do not eat pork, they practise male circumcision, they ritually slaughter their animals, some of their men wear skull caps and they put the Star of David on their gravestones.

Their oral traditions claim that their ancestors were Jews who fled the Holy Land about 2,500 years ago.

It may sound like another myth of a lost tribe of Israel, but British scientists have carried out DNA tests which confirm their Semitic origin.

These tests back up the group's belief that a group of perhaps seven men married African women and settled on the continent. The Lemba, who number perhaps 80,000, live in central Zimbabwe and the north of South Africa.

And they also have a prized religious artefact that they say connects them to their Jewish ancestry - a replica of the Biblical Ark of the Covenant known as the ngoma lungundu, meaning "the drum that thunders".

The object went on display recently at a Harare museum to much fanfare, and instilled pride in many of the Lemba.

"For me it's the starting point," says religious singer Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave.

"Very few people knew about us and this is the time to come out. I'm very proud to realise that we have a rich culture and I'm proud to be a Lemba.

"We have been a very secretive people, because we believe we are a special people."

Religion vs culture

The Lemba have many customs and regulations that tally with Jewish tradition.

They wear skull caps, practise circumcision, which is not a tradition for most Zimbabweans, avoid eating pork and food with animal blood, and have 12 tribes.

11-year-old son of Azerbaijan’s President Aliyev ‘owns Dubai mansions’

The President of Azerbaijan suffered embarrassment yesterday when it was reported that nine luxury mansions in Dubai worth millions of pounds had been bought in the name of his 11-year-old son.

The waterfront properties on the exclusive Palm Jumeirah development have been registered with Dubai’s Land Department under the name of Heydar Aliyev, the schoolboy son of President Aliyev.

The Washington Post newspaper reported that they were bought in a two-week shopping spree last year for about $44 million (£29 million) — 10,000 times the average annual salary in Azerbaijan. The President’s daughters, Leyla and Arzu, also appeared as the owners of Dubai properties, bringing the total value of the children’s alleged property portfolio to $75 million.

The President’s official salary in Azerbaijan is about $228,000 a year.

Dubai may have lost its shine in the age of the credit crunch, but the villas on the Palm still claim a host of famous owners. If young Heydar loses his football over the fence, he may find it returned by David Beckham, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie or Simon Cowell.

A spokesman at the presidential administration in Baku refused to discuss the claims yesterday when contacted by The Times.

Reports of the alleged purchases shine a light on allegations of corruption in the former Soviet republic, which is swimming in revenues from vast oil and gas reserves in the Caspian Sea.

Azerbaijan has been dominated by the Aliyev dynasty for decades. Mr Aliyev’s father — also called Heydar — was leader of Soviet Azerbaijan for 13 years until 1982, then President of the independent republic for a decade until 2003, when he fell ill and nominated his son Ilham as his successor. Ilham, the vice-president of Socar, the state oil company, was elected President of Azerbaijan with 76 per cent of the vote in a poll condemned by international observers.

He was re-elected in 2008 with 89 per cent, after opposition candidates boycotted what they called a “sham election”.

Azerbaijan is booming thanks to oil revenues of $7 billion last year alone, but most of its eight million people endure harsh poverty, and up to a million are refugees from the frozen conflict with Armenia over the enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh. The US State Department condemned “pervasive corruption” in a report last year that also criticised the regime’s human rights abuses.

The Aliyevs certainly bought their seaside homes at the right time. A self-styled Eighth Wonder of the Word, the Palm Jumeirah was supposed to cement Dubai’s reputation as the new playground for the rich and famous.

From their peak in mid-2008, however, property values across Dubai have plummeted. By early last year, top-end villas on the Palm were selling for about £2.7 million each, half their peak value, as the emirate’s real estate market collapsed and panicked investors bailed out.

TIME TO RECONSIDER: THE LIMITS OF KARABAKH

By Elnur Aslanov

Today's Zaman

March 15 2010

Turkey

South Caucasus, 2010... Twenty-two years of conflict between Azerbaijan

and Armenia.

For those who still do not know, it is a conflict revolving around

the ancient Azerbaijani territory of Nagorno-Karabakh now occupied

by Armenia. The conflict has turned more than 1 million people into

refugees and caused enormous damage to regional economic development.

Numerous potential economic and political projects that would have

brought the South Caucasus closer to Europe have been sidelined. The

South Caucasus has sunk into an abyss of conflict, the analysis of

which has troubled the world's leading powers. All Azerbaijanis have

been expelled from Armenia, while 20,000 Armenians still reside in

Azerbaijan. Nationalist sentiments are growing constantly in both

states. Mothers fear the beginning of war, while politicians calculate

the risks.

But for what? For the sake of "the misguided initiative" of a certain

political power that governs Armenia, a small South Caucasus republic

of about 3 million people? Nobody can disagree that the principle of

territorial integrity is a fundamental principle of international law.

And surely no one can think that Nagorno-Karabakh will ever become an

independent actor in international relations. So what is it all about?

Is it not better to live in peace in your own country and enjoy all the

boons and privileges bestowed by the social and economic development

of a country rich in energy resources?

Today, the Karabakh Armenians have food for thought. Azerbaijan is

a country of ancient traditions, at the heart of which lies tolerance.

Historically we have proved this to be true, and it has often been

used against us. We continued to live in peace with the Armenians even

after the genocide of Azerbaijanis in March 1918. We continued to

consider Baku an international city, despite the active resistance

of the Armenian population to the declaration of Azerbaijani as

the official language in the constitution of 1956. Prior to the

onset of the conflict, an elite part of the city of Baku was even

called "the Armenian settlement." We Azerbaijanis continued to see

the events of 1988, when the Armenian-Azerbaijan conflict began,

as a misunderstanding and believed that fraternal people could not

act like this. In 1988, when provocations by Armenian circles led to

bloodshed in Azerbaijani cities such as Sumgayit, many of us believed

that it would still be possible to change things. Years have passed,

but irrationality has grown in Armenia.

Today, two decades later, a TV channel and a news agency in the

Armenian language function in Azerbaijan. What about Armenia? The

answer is obvious: none. We understand better that the South Caucasus

is a common house, and we call on Armenia to renounce unconstructive

politics and halt the pressure on their compatriots.

The Armenians of Karabakh would be happy to live in houses where

there is light, warmth and amenities. They would like to enjoy the

fine infrastructure that would open them up to the intensive economic

development of Azerbaijan. Certainly, the Armenians of Karabakh dream

of the social security system, public health services, education

and other social benefits and advantages that are available to the

residents of neighboring Azerbaijani cities. Moreover, the Armenians of

Karabakh would be part of the social life of the country that they used

to live in. What have the years of conflict given to those whose lives

are in misery in Karabakh? Why do they agree with the aspirations of

"outside forces" that prevent them realizing the ideal of living in

peace in their own state, Azerbaijan?

Today Armenians live in Azerbaijan, while in Armenia there are no

Azerbaijanis. There are citizens in Azerbaijan with Armenian surnames;

there are none with Azerbaijani surnames in Armenia. We have proved

that we are capable of living together despite war and loss, pain and

sacrifice. Strangely enough, we have been tolerant of the people whose

leadership has been waging war against us for our ancient lands for 22

years. The Armenians should now prove that they are capable of living

together with us. The South Caucasus is a common house for the people

settled there, and the time has come to realize this. Armenians moved

to Karabakh a little more than two centuries ago, but we understand

that for the Armenian families that have lived there for generations

Karabakh has become a native place. However, the fact that Karabakh

belongs to the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan should not

be questioned.

Unfortunately, the Armenians of Karabakh fell hostage to the leaders

of Armenia and the field commanders who served their own mercantile

interests. War is money, and every Armenian in Karabakh should realize

that by protracting the prompt resolution of the conflict, they line

the pockets of war criminals. The military leadership understands

full well that they will never achieve their purposes and continues

to strain the situation by increasing the expenditure of an already

scarce budget on the construction of various defense systems. They

reiterate to the public the same theses that it would be possible to

ensure public security only in the case of independence. Nevertheless,

let us take a sober look. Nagorno-Karabakh, granted autonomy with

comprehensive privileges of self-administration within Azerbaijan,

will become a focus of international attention.

Undoubtedly, each step of the central authority, the leadership of

Azerbaijan in Karabakh, will be closely watched by the international

community. The nonsense that if the Armenians of Karabakh are part

of Azerbaijan their lives will get worse or they will be forced to

leave all the territories at once does not hold water. The superpowers

will ensure security guarantees for the local population. Azerbaijan

already put its signature to security guarantees for the Azerbaijani

and Armenian populations of Nagorno-Karabakh in the resolution of the

1996 Lisbon Summit. Azerbaijan is willing to return its territories

and refugees home through peaceful means and to turn Karabakh into

a prosperous region. The population of this region can only benefit

from this, be they Armenian or Azerbaijani.

It's time to face the truth. New prospects are opening up, so it is

necessary to stand firm and thwart the pressure from outside, to decide

to live in agreement and peace for the sake of future generations. What

does the younger generation in Karabakh believe today? Fairy tales

about "independence"? But where is the life worth living: education,

pensions, public health services? It's time to decide who will live

under what circumstances -- whether to continue to create more broken

destinies, damaged lives and deprived families or to abstain from

illusory pseudo-ideas that instill only enmity and hatred.

It's time to reconsider, but time is always pressing.

Erdogan: Armenia Should Be Saved from the Diaspora's Control

http://www.turkishweekly.net/news/99718/erdogan-armenia-should-be-saved-from-the-diaspora-39-s-control.html

LONDON (A.A) - Turkey's prime minister said on Tuesday that Armenia should be saved from the diaspora's control.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with his British counterpart Gordon Brown in London. Following the gathering, the two officials held a joint press conference and replied to questions of reporters.

Upon a question on his recent remarks in an interview regarding the status of illegal Armenian migrants in Turkey, Erdogan said nearly 170,000 Armenians lived in Turkey currently.

"70,000 of these people are our citizens and others are living in Turkey illegally," Erdogan said.

"We will not decide on such matter immediately. These people have been living in our country for more than 10 years. However, if developments continue like this, we will definitely make an assessment and take the necessary steps," he said.

Replying to another question, Erdogan said Armenia should be rescued from the diaspora's control.

"At this point, the Minsk Group has an important duty. It should fulfill such task. Once it is fulfilled, all the problems will naturally vanish and there will not be any problems between Turkey and Armenia, or between Armenia and Azerbaijan," he said.

Karabakh Armenians are hostage of Armenian leadership and field commanders

http://www.today.az/news/politics/63005.html

http://www.today.az/images/spacer.gif03 March 2010 [10:39] - Today.Az

http://www.today.az/images/spacer.gifInterview with Chief of the Political Analysis and Information Department head at the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Elnur Aslanov.

The first stage of the Justice for Khojaly campaign is over. Is it possible to sue criminals involved in the genocide against the Azerbaijani people in the international court in future?

The Khojaly tragedy is a crime for which its perpetrators should be definitely made criminally responsible. Killing of innocent civilians, cruel acts against them do not fit the logic of military actions. Therefore, I think that it is necessary to use all possible legal and political means to bring the perpetrators of this tragedy to the International Court of Justice. None of the criminals who committed these crimes against civilians in Khojaly cannot and should not be forgiven.

Recently, Yerevan, concerned about Azerbaijan's statements on the possibility of military resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, tried to submit a resolution to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly requesting peaceful resolution of the conflict. What are the chances of adopting such resolution?

It shouldn't be forgotten that Azerbaijan is an active supporter of the peaceful settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. We have not occupied by using force, but our lands are occupied. However, Armenia is aware that each process has its own limit point. We have witnessed a violation of fundamental principles of international law; territorial integrity of the state and borders. The rights of over a million people have been grossly violated. Socio-economic development of the region has suffered from enormous damage. And all this is a consequence of Armenian policy, which seeks to realize its own illusory ideas.

Today, Armenia is concerned about the strengthening of military-political and economic potential of Azerbaijan. At the same time, the people who live on the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh do not want to be an object of an irrational policy of Armenia.

Armenians of Karabakh seek peace in their own country and want to be part of the socio-economic development, to take advantage of all preferences of effective development. But what does Yerevan give them except tales on "independence?" Nothing. The Armenians of Karabakh are hostages of Armenian leadership and field commanders in the Karabakh, as conflict creates conditions for a comfortable existence and enrichment through the illegal arms and drug trafficking for Armenia.

Azerbaijan also offers to be part of the process of economic development and infrastructural reforms. While Yerevan is thinking about saving the image in their own society, thousands of people who do not want to be out of the realities of human development suffer in Karabakh. For what they have to endure the hardships of war? For the ambitious plans of the Armenian government? Yerevan understands the hopelessness of its own position. Therefore, it tries every way to secure itself against the foreign policy, and of course domestic political fiasco.

Any conflict should be resolved peacefully. But it is difficult to talk about peace when you neighbor is irrational, and for the sake of its own mercenary interests doesn't want to accept reality.

On the eve of parliamentary elections, how do you assess the internal political situation in Azerbaijan? What are the chances of the current government and opposition in the upcoming elections?

In general, the internal political situation in the country fully meets the spirit of democratic development. There are parties, which compete with each other, discuss the possibilities of upcoming political battles, alliances and blocs. When the electoral process is close, the situation becomes usually tight. All this is natural, and even the already familiar. Each election is a movement forward in the field of democratization. So these elections will not be an exception.

I am sure that democratic and transparent political competition and elections arising from the desire of voters to vote for the most worthy candidate wait for all of us.

Azerbaijan Celebrates 10,000th Threat to Attack Armenia

Azerbaijan, Baku - A festive ceremony involving President Ilham Aliev and key government officials

featured a long-expected speech by leader of the country. A landmark threat to wipe out Armenian forces from Karabakh was attended by representatives of international organizations, embassies and reporters.

The State Statistical Service of Azerbaijan had predicted the landmark 10,000th threat to take place by end of 2010, however extra effort on part of the government pushed the date closer. Surrounded by excited officials, as well as invited Guinness book experts, Aliev swiftly took his stand by the tribune.

“We are gathered here today to celebrate one of the most important milestones in the history of Azerbaijan. Today I am going to voice my 10,000th threat to use force against the occupant forces of Armenia”, said Aliev in an unusually motivated tone.

“I remember my first threat back in 2003 as I assumed the office… Nothing compares to a first threat.. incredible feeling”, Aliev looked down for a second, shaking his head nostalgically.“

“Proudly, I stand here before you today with 9,999 publicly announced threats, over 5,000 ultimatums and countless nags at Armenia behind my back”, continued Aliev as the crowd ripped in applauds at each announced number.

“Attained results are stunning. The previous threats have scared Armenia so much, that they were forced to modernize their army and build up heavier front-lines. No doubt, another 4 or 5 thousand elaborated threats and Armenian army will be forced to surrender Karabakh. Another 7-9 thousand more threats and Zangezur will be ours!”

After some 5 minutes of introductory suspense Aliev eventually unveiled the hard-boiled message. Slapping his fist on the table Aliev frowned heavily, almost zipping eyelids in anger and said:“Seriously, Armenians, leave Karabakh. I’m super serious. Leave it, OTHERWISE,” the crowd froze in awe, as Aliev raised his pointer finger in a two-minute additional suspense “we promise to use force!”

Aliev’s speech was immediately released on TV and other media. Azerbaijani politicians flooded press with comments on the unprecedented tough message of the leader to Armenia.

Baku Times called the landmark threat “nation’s biggest success after the 5,000th threat back of 2006” which marked a turning point in threat development and announcement efforts.

Political analyst Yusuf Bakiev from “Yusuf Bakiev” Foundation comments on the speech as extremely impressive.“This year’s speech is frankly much spicier than anything I heard before. I think we are just a few threats away from liberating Karabakh from the infidel assholes. I mean, let’s be reasonable, 10,000 threats could not go without an impact. It’s simple physics – energy like that doesn’t just vanish, it kicks ass. In this case, Aliev totally kicked Armenian ass”, explained Azerbaijani top expert.

Did Turkey’s Ambassador really lobby for passage of Genocide Resolution?

Thousands of articles are posted on the internet every day. But, very few make us fall off our chairs!

Last week I came across a shocking news item posted by the Turkish Forum -- the largest website for Turkish news. It was titled: "Forgotten Ambassador in Sierra Leone Uses Armenian Genocide Resolution to solve his Problem." Here is the summary in translation of that incredible article:

"In recent years, parliaments of several countries have adopted resolutions on the Armenian Genocide. In retaliation, Turkey has recalled its ambassadors from these countries. It has been revealed that some opportunistic ambassadors exploited this situation, by abusing their position.

"According to a Foreign Ministry announcement this morning, Orhan Emin Turkone, Turkey’s Ambassador in Sierra Leone for the past 12 years, has been fired for having lobbied for the passage of the Armenian Genocide bill in that country’s Parliament.

"During a press conference this morning, the Foreign Ministry’s Undersecretary Ersin Ozbukey explained: ‘Recently, it came to our attention that the so-called Armenian Genocide bill was placed on the agenda of the Parliaments of Chad, Eritrea, and Djibouti. But, when we saw that this bill was unanimously adopted by the Parliament of Sierra Leone, we started suspecting that something had gone terribly wrong.’ Ozbukey added: ‘We formed an investigative committee that uncovered some interesting, but disturbing information.’

"’We confirmed that Amb. Turkone had carried out lobbying activities in favor of the Armenian Genocide bill,’ Ozbukey stated. ‘Of course, this can’t be excused, but the Ministry also has its fault in this affair. This man was abandoned and forgotten in a far away country. He got that idea, after [Turkish] Ambassadors were recalled following the adoption of the genocide resolution by other countries. Twelve years is a long time,’ Ozbukey admitted.

"Ozbukey then provided the details of Amb. Turkone unbelievable actions in publicizing the Armenian Genocide in Sierra Leone. Ozbukey said that whenever the Ambassador visited a bar, he would write on facebook: ‘We massacred the Armenians in such a nasty way.’ He told bartenders: ‘My grandfather alone killed 100-150 Armenians whose bones are in the basement of our home.’ The Ambassador made up such falsehoods and lies. He basically said whatever came to his head. Sierra Leone is a small place. Word spreads quickly. No one had ever heard of either Armenia or Turkey. But, within a month, everyone in the whole country was agitated over this issue. People were dancing in the streets when they learned that the genocide was recognized. This shouldn’t have happened, but unfortunately, it did!

"Ozbukey explained that after this revelation, the Turkish government started paying more attention to the agenda of various parliaments. In order to avoid such situations in the future, instead of recalling ambassadors, ‘we are now considering the possibility of cutting off trade relations, until the resolution is removed from the Parliament’s agenda,’"

Even though this article sounded too good to be true, the amount of detail and specific names mentioned in it led dozens of Turkish websites to post it, without realizing that it was a hoax! After learning that Turkey did not have an embassy in Sierra Leone, the Turkish Forum deleted the fake news from its website. It was also not true that Armenian Genocide resolutions were being considered by parliaments of Chad, Djibouti and Eritrea in recent months.

It is not known who concocted this elaborate hoax. Given the extensive amount of criticism directed at Prime Minister Erdogan within Turkey in recent weeks, the author could well be a disgruntled Turk with a sense of humor who decided to take a sarcastic swipe at his Don Quixotic leader. The article was accompanied by an authentic looking photo of three African officials along with a non-African individual at a signing ceremony. The photo gave the false impression that the latter was the Turkish Ambassador to Sierra Leone.

It is not at all surprising that several Turkish websites fell for this ruse, as the government of Turkey has made a practice of recalling its ambassadors from France, Canada, the United States, and other countries for having recognized the Armenian Genocide.

Namik Tan, the newly appointed Turkish ambassador to Washington, was recalled on March 4 after the House Foreign Affairs Committee approved the Armenian Genocide resolution. It was reported that he might stay in Ankara until after April 24. This is great news for Armenian-American activists, as they can lobby Congress without facing any opposition from the Turkish Ambassador during the crucial weeks leading to April 24, when he needs to be in Washington trying to block the Genocide Resolution in the House and persuade Pres. Obama not to refer to the Armenian Genocide in his annual statement!

To the best of our knowledge, Amb. Tan did not lobby Congress for passage of the Armenian Genocide resolution, as did the fictional ambassador in Sierre Leone, in order take an extended vacation with family and friends back home. However, judging from Prime Minister Erdogan’s recent self-defeating statements, sometimes truth is indeed stranger than fiction!

ARMENIANS MAY PROVOKE WAR OVER KARABAKH

Day.Az

March 24 2010

Azerbaijan

About three years ago I was chatting with a military expert from a

country in the west who was an officer of an alliance of some kind,

not just an ordinary soldier, but someone who was certainly well

informed. He spent a long time complaining about "militarism". The

whole dreariness of the world community, which was supposedly

completely and utterly objective in its mediation and its desire to

resolve the Karabakh problem, was presented in all its glory.

We, of course, know that one of a journalist's main qualities should

be to have an almost child-like curiosity. Looking at the expert

with all the innocence of the eyes of a 30-year old, I asked him:

"So, if there is going to be a war, who will win?" His reply came as

a surprise, even to me. He claimed that Azerbaijan had a minimum of

tens of thousands of assault troops (a precise number exists, but

I will maintain a discreet silence on that score), who are trained

at the highest level and could within two weeks reach the Armenian

border from the unoccupied part of Agdam or Fuzuli districts, unless,

of course, they were ordered to advance further. Let me repeat,

I am not talking about a regular army, but trained assault troops,

to whom it would not be appropriate to extend the principle "One at

altitude against five attackers from below".

I re-checked my companion's information at official level. After the

usual silence it was later confirmed by independent experts and even

those who showed opposition at most to the authorities and at least

to the Defence Ministry.

I will not itemize all of Azerbaijan's armaments and weaponry. It

was enough to have been in last year's parade in Azadliq Square [in

Baku], but even then by no means everything was shown and not the

most terrible weapons. After all, the parade was for our benefit,

and not the Armenians. But recently I have come to understand the

hysteria of the Armenians with regard to "Azerbaijan's bellicose

statements". But what can they do after all, the threat is a real,

a tangible one, so to speak.

Armenian war preparations

I wrote recently that the Armenians have been busy digging trenches in

Karabakh. Let me repeat, this information is 100-per cent accurate. An

Armenian counterpart, who has perfectly good eyesight, has seen this

new line of defence for himself. He said the reason for it was because

the Armenians are preparing to repel an attack, whereas I believe the

Armenians are preparing to de-occupy Azerbaijani territories. Whose

prediction will be proved true is a 50-50 question, but I would go

for mine.

The other day the [Armenian] Hraparak newspaper wrote that they

are busy preparing for war in Nagornyy Karabakh. It said that all

young people who had reached adulthood had already undergone medical

examinations, the basements of local hospitals had been cleared out

and beds laid out, first-aid medicines were being purchased and the

population was stocking up on food and water.

Those who agree with the idea of a forthcoming de-occupation believe

that the Armenian leaders are scaring all and sundry about a possible

war, so that if territories are returned the people can breathe easily:

the danger is over, peace is the main thing, is what they are saying.

More subtle specialists and near-experts believe that by declaring a

"patriotic war", in which not just the regular army will take part, but

the population as well, official Yerevan is covering up its inevitable

defeat should hostilities break out. The idea is that it would not be

[Armenian President Serzh] Sargsyan and the military junta as a whole

who would be defeated, but the whole nation. Another excuse for 95

years of mourning [since the 1915 Armenian genocide]?

They are tying to say that the Armenians are innocent, and all this

is the devilry of "cruel monsters" who beat the beautiful and the

misunderstood. So long as Sargsyan is in power a solution to the

conflict exists.

It was here that the experts analysing the "preparation for war"

apparently concluded their suppositions and restricted their

predictions. But I will venture to go further.

Not "hot air"

First, (proceeding from what has already been said), the Armenians do

have something and someone to fear. Azerbaijan's "aggressive rhetoric"

is by no means just hot air. If they didn't know, they wouldn't be

afraid; if they weren't afraid, they wouldn't spread slander.

Secondly, at this precise moment we and the Armenians have reached the

crossroads: it's either peace or war. We will decide this year. Time

is short.

Thirdly, aware of all this, the Armenian generals may turn to

provocation. We have always considered the option of a possible attack

by our troops on the occupying forces, but it is rare that anyone

contemplates the option of a strike from the other side. But it is a

real possibility. It cannot be ruled out that the Armenians will turn

to provocation. Of course, they are not guaranteed military success,

but the talks will be wrecked. And the junta, which has gorged itself

on a war, might choose this path, whether led by President Sargsyan

or without him.

Let us at least assume they will experiment. This very same officer

of the alliance claimed that within another week, that is a total of

three from the start of an attack, our troops could be in Yerevan. We

will speak about the CSTO [Collective Security Treaty Organization]

next time.

A NEW "GAS" BY TURKISH HISTORIAN

news.am

March 29 2010

Armenia

Yusuf Halacoglu, Head of the Turkish Historical Society (TTK), made a

"shocking" statement at a conference in Konya, Turkey.

Haberler reported that, speaking of the proposals concerning the

reforms implemented in Turkey since the 19th century, as well as of

the Kurdish problem, Halacoglu claimed that the Kurdistan Workers'

Party, which is considered a terrorist organization in Turkey, is

not at all a Kurdish organization, as 80% of its members are Armenians.

Yusuf Halacoglu has made numerous false claims about the Armenian

Genocide. His flights of fancy deny imagination. Several years ago

the Turkish authorities "sent him off."
