i personally don't have a job till monday, that's why i am wasting my time on this forum.

Tigranes, remember that you might try to raise your kid whoever you want, but that kid is going ot have his/her own mind, and one day he might as well choose to be a 100% armenian, or convert to budhism and forget his greek ancenstry and other ancesntries for good. Raising a child in Northern America is not as easy for any minority culture. So sorry, you can try but life will only show what can happen. In fact, if you insist your child not to follow a culture, then there is a big chance he/she will for sure.

And yes, Armenians are afraid of assimiliating, and this is only true in the diaspora, not armenia, so what??? don't we leave in democratic societies where we can practice whatever religion we want, we chose to practice the religion the anti-assimiliation for example. If you really dislike Armenians why waste time on them, move on and find a culture where people embrace you.

Would you act as cocky in front of Italian-Americans, not really, because they are far more dominant than anything greek that walked on the earth. Hey, you could even be a deadman by now.

italians are the only ethnicity that i embrace because they follow the positive reinforcement model...

unlike the armenians which have the fear of assimilation religion as you say... their culture is as great as ours and I will admit probably greater because they continue to have accomplishments today( ferrari, G7, soccer, etc.)... We have just begun lately in 2004...Olympics, eurovision, Euro soccer, Euro Football....

Tigran, you gotta understand that that anti-assimiliatist model is mostly followed by Armenians who are descendants of genocide survivors. Armenia proper and the largest community of armenians today (2mil in Russia as you mentioned) does not follow this model, so don't worry...you are really dealing with a unique sample.

ok ok guys...im new to this forum..im fifteen and in canada...im half irish and half armenian tigranes...yes and im god damn proud of bing both! i may young but am very historically and politically active...so please...im new to forums...so i would really appreciate it if other armenians here didnt rub it in that im young and know nothing

kk so my point...

look tigranes...i read ur first post...you sounded alittle desperate but you made some good points..but the problem is that you just critisized armenian communities everywhere without realising it...i think you need to review your methods here...

but on the other hand...my couzin is greek and i have a great amount of respect for him,

armenians everywhere...lets not forget that greece is the only countrey in the world who has been with us from the beginning, they are the only countrey besides us (i mean this in a relative term...england ww1 but you know...turkish massacres...) who's had to put up with turkish bullying and massacres...we had our genocide but greeks have lost at least 800 000 to turkish hands...

our ancestors have been allied witht he greeks for thousands of years

now look tigranes...i think you owe everyone here an apology...and good luck with stavros...i deeply respect and admire the greeks and their community but stavros should not forget his roots and what his people ahve suffererd (both of them)

make him greek...but an armenian greek

:)

damn strait...ever heard of the horse of troy?

ya...armenia had sent an army with the greeks...

and who do you think was in the hoarse? armenians...

LOL, as far as I know the Trojan War is a legend, so it would be pretty difficult to prove who was inside the horse or if a horse actually existed!!!

The legend of the Trojan War is very likely based on fact rather than pure fiction, as are most legends. And, please, Armenians sending the Greeks reinforcement? Get real. It was the Hittites who sent Troy an army against the Achaeans - during any war, most likely THE Trojan War. This is based on two findings - firstly, Hittite court records (clay tablets of cuneiform) and a Hittite relief in western Asia Minor used as a landmark by the Hittite army to turn north. Please spare the "Hittites were Armenian" part - I don't think they were aware of anything of the sort at the time and at any rate Turkish pseudo-historians are also claiming something with them (and also the Etruscans, incidentally), much to their discredit. To mention "allying with the Greeks during the Trojan War" - which side was "the Greeks"? -_-

Storming; where did you get your information in reference to the Hittites being part of the Trojan war? I don't dispute at all with the fact that Armenians had nothing to do with the Trojan war and I fully understand your disagreements about the matter. As a matter of fact after your input I went into looking sites about it and I have stumbled at least to one Turkish site that purposely to do anti-Armenian propaganda they have mentioned as if the Armenians were part of it. I now fully understand and share your frustration about it that it's a Turkish malicious propaganda.

"Once the statue had been built by the artist Epeius, a number of the Greek warriors, along with Odysseus, climbed inside. The rest of the Greek fleet sailed away, so as to deceive the Trojans."

basically for my purposes I wanted to be more informed to know how you got the info. Thanks. :)

The Hittite Connection

"We know today, from our own excavations and even from earlier ones, that in all main respects, Bronze Age Troy had stronger ties with Anatolia than with the Aegan. We've learned this from the tons of local pottery and small finds, such as a seal with a local hieroglypic inscription, as well as the overall settlement picture, mud-brick architecture, and cremation burials. Research by Anatolian specialists has shown that what we today call Troy was in the Late Bronze Age the kingdom of Wilusa, powerful enough to conclude treaties with the Hittite Empire; even the Egyptians seem to have been familiar with the city. Furthermore, according to Hittite records, there were political and military tensions around Troy precisely during the thirtheenth and early twelvth centuries B.C. -- the supposed time of Homer's Trojan War."

I'm so glad I live in the US! Sure it's hard for children of minority to get caught up and lose their culture, but parents can try and raise them with a sense of culture identity. But I couldn't agree with you more on the fact that if you insist your child not to follow a culture, then there is a big chance they will. I'm a Latin girl who dates outside her race, loves learning about other cultures, embraces ALL people, and practices Buddhism, much to my parents chagrin. And hey, I'm interacting in an Armenian site! LOL My point is you can try hard for your kids not to assimilate but the US is the land of "the melting pot" and kids are introduced to cultures from all over the world, weather parents like it or not. Even if you manage for your child to grow up 100% of this culture or that, they are little people with their own minds and they may as well chose not to follow their culture rule by rule when they get older. Don't get me wrong I think it is important for everyone to know and take pride on their culture, but I also believe that you can learn from other cultures as well. Every culture has something good to offer!

Tigranes, I'm sure you and your wife raise your baby to know and love both his cultures! I am all for interracial/ interculture marraiges. I think it's a beautiful thing and I myself (when I am ready), will look for a husband outside my race and raise my children knowing about their Latin culture as well as the father's culture but never making one more dominant than the other. By the way, Italian-Americans, as much as I love them, can be downright cocky... and wacky! LOL

There you go. In fact, "Wilusa" is postulated as the Hittite name for Troy, a.k.a. Illion (Greek), a.k.a. Illium (Latin), hence the Illiad. I have not been able to find mention of the Hittite relief that directed soldiers north by online search - I had watched it on a documentary.
