Anileve
Soooo... we are thinking about a place to visit. I would love to go to Africa, but the price is too high. From some of your experiences which place intrigued you and inspired you most, which place would you consider romantic? I am not very interested Caribbean by the way, maybe because it’s so accessible and relatively cheap. Suggestions are greatly appreciated. Stormik, you are a world traveler, what would you suggest? Sip
From the tone of your post, I assume the US is out. But if it isn't, and if you haven't already done so, I would DEFINITELY recommend renting a car and just driving around the whole US. The North American continent has some of the most spectacular places on earth ranging from the great lakes, to Yellowstone, to the higher planes and the beauties of Utah (Bryce canoyn, Zion, etc), to the Rockies, coast line and vineyards of Calfironia (Lake Tohoe, Gay area, etc), to the deserts of Arizona (Grand Canoyn, Sedona), the high deserts, etc. I don't know much about the South and New Orleans is a dump now so forget that part Edited March 30, 2006 by Sip
Anileve
Sip, that sounds great, but we are planning to do this in the future. For our special vacation I would like for it to be somewhere remote, adventurous and slightly romantic. Haven't you been to Italy? What did you think? We are actually thinking about Madeira, Rhine, Alsace, Prague, Tuscany and Italy, Greece or New Zealand.
vava
I enjoyed Holland & Belgium... I think Eastern europe sounds fascinating - you could go to Vienna & Prague, then maybe some of the baltic states. I've always wanted to do a mediterrenean saling trip with stops in Spain, Italy (Sardegna, Cicily), some of the Greek Islands and Cyprus (maybe Malta) - get yourself on a nice sailboat with an able crew.... (I will tend to the galley!)
Sip
I've been to Rome ... it is definitely an amazing city. A big trip like that requires careful planning ... a US trip requires almost no planning ... just go! But for a certain special trip, I can see why remote, exotic, etc may sound better. I would recommend against trying to do too much ... I personally prefer to spend a few days anywhere I go. Otherwise, you are just running around and don't have time to literally stop to smell the flowers So stay away from the packaged european tours that take you to 14 cities in 1 week For a trip like this, I would recommend against Europe as a whole ... unless you pick some remote relaxed destination in the alps or some rural areas ... the dense cities are just too overwhelming. But before I talk too much about what I prefer, hehe ... are YOU looking to kick back and relax and enjoy a beautiful place or are you interested more into running around, do a lot of sight seeing (i.e. museums, old stuff, cultural thingies, etc). Because for the first case, places like Hawaii (Maui), Fiji, and New Zealand might be ideal ... while for the second case, I would definitely head to Italy (maaaaaaaaaybe even Paris). Germany is also great but I suspect it is less to your liking based on your colorful personality
Sip
By the way, for their honeymoon, my parents drove around England (literally). They were fairly broke at the time so my dad fixed up an old Morris car and they said they had a blast! It is really not where you go or what you do ... it's your attitude that will make or break a trip. If you have too many expectations, you are setting yourself up for disappointment
ED
I dont know exacly when is the trip planned but if it was like new few months I would defenatly advise Argenitina, I had few friends who just came back and were very pleased, from food to music and culture seanry etccc with a currancy exchange rate with Argentina you get a lot for your money oh yes, and you can tango till early morning hours
Armenak
I've already planned my travels for summer 2007. I will be visiting Armenia for one week and touring Europe for another week. I plan to visit most of the central European countries, such as Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. But I don't think a week is enough time to tour even one of them. armjan
i've heard southeast asia is inexpensive and nice to visit. i would never go there, but there are a lot of sites to visit and see. they are for the most part not hostile to americans but they do bite, atleast that's what i've been told. http://worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/as.htm singapore is cool, but on the expensive side. hell, have you looked into australia. It's bee-u-tiful.

gamavor
I think the best place to visit is the one that has special memories. For that reason I'm going to Bulgaria (again) this year (hopefully). Besides the seaside what attracts me as a magnet is my childhood friends. You just go there, make few phone calls, saying "Hey, I'm here" and before you know it the party is already set up!
Stormig
My answer is certain - Italy. I hope you make it there before the "alta stagione" (high season), though. As for places I'd like to go, how about a trekking expedition in Nepal or Peru? Or how about Greece? Spain? I have also been wanting to go to Croatia. OK, I am Mediterranean-biased. I don't know how the Seychelles would compare with the Maldives, but the Maldives are pretty fascinating, too.
Azat
Eve, a friend did this for a honeymoon and they were very happy. 3 weeks in Austria and Switzerland Fly to Munich to rent a car from there as it is the cheapest in Europe. Drive to Salsburg then to Insuburg then to Davos to st Moritz to Lake Lugano cutting thru Northern Italy, Geneva, Bern to Zurich and back to Munich 3 weeks in beautiful place I also would recommend the UK thing that Sippy mentioned. I have dont London, oxford, wales, Dublin, fly over to Edinburgh and back to London in 2 weeks and it is a VERY nice trip as well. Edinburg alone is unfreakingbelievable Also Italy is always sacred and wonderful. Tikrit Iraq may be a "blast" but I think you should stay away. Takoush
Tuscany, Italy should be nice or perhaps Australia or Hawaii. Eve, wherever you'll go I am sure you'll have much fun! Edited April 2, 2006 by Anahid Takouhi
phantom22
Santorini (Thera) in the Aegean is out of this world. How about Malta, with an amazing cultural mix or perhaps the art region above the French Riviera. All were relatively inexpensive when I was there. In the Pacific, Bali, if the Islamic revolutionaries stay quiet, and you can stop off in New Zealand nearby.

Nakharar
Personally I would say Italy and Spain. You shouldn't miss out on the Costa Amalfitana no matter what. If Europe isn't your thing Thailand and China come to my mind. I've never been to mainland China, but it's definitely going to be my next destination. rostom
I would suggest Italy. I especially liked Florence and the western coast of the country. I've attached some pictures of Cinque Terre (north western coast), which is an area of 5 adjacent villages with the ocean on one side and the mountains on the other. There is a lot of ways to see that area: take the local train from village to village, hike through the mountains to each village, bike, etc. If you choose to go to Florence, there is a very unique tour which I would highly recommend. Its a small private company that offers a variety of tours in small groups. We did the cooking tour where we went to a winery for a few hours and then to a local's house where we made pasta (the old fashioned way), conversed with the owners (they spoke very good english), and then ate the pasta that we had made in the local's home. It was a memorable experience. http://show.imagehosting.us/show/1278081/0/nouser_1278/T0_-1_1278081.jpg http://show.imagehosting.us/show/1278093/0/nouser_1278/T0_-1_1278093.jpg
