Maral jan, that was very beautiful, however whats in it for the guy?  how come we always get the short end of the stick.  we have to romance them and buy expansive gifts and have a special occasion to pop the question.  Whats in it for the guy?

it is not getting laid as one can get laid all the time without buying some 50 caret  rings and going on top of the Eiffel tower to pop the question.

Actually as I have gotten older(maybe less wiser) I keep wondering why ANYONE would want to get married.  50% of marriages end up in divorce and the other 49.9% are miserable yet stay together because of kids or family and such.  Why not be with different people until you are 80 then die?

another way to pop the question is putting it in pringles box and popping it...

another more romantic way is taking your parents, bunch of other relatives, especially elderly ones and going to her home, while her parents are at home along with bunch of other her relatives, especially elderly ones, and let our parents have the honor of proposing to her parents...

This is probably going to sound a 'bit old fashioned, but I always liked the idea of the man coming up to the girl's father and asking his permission for his daughter's hand in marriage. Of course, do this if you are ABSOLUTELY sure the father will say yes. lol.

That's very old-fashioned and so terribly disrespectful of women. In a way the bride is considered to be a property to be handed over from one man (her father) to another man (her husband to be). I am sorry but that's a very primitive and plebian tradition. Can you see that being reversed? If a woman had to go to the mother to ask for her permission in marrying her son, how ridiculous is that?

Well, I think that shows respect the man has for the parents of the bride and fathers are usually flattered when a man does this. I mean, a daughter to the father is very precious. A father's love towards his daughter is different than towards his son. After the man asks her father, he goes on with proposing to the love of his life and hopefully she says yes. Her answer is the most important one of course. =)

And now the other side of the coin.

Kaj Nazar had a beautiful daughter. The boy next door was madly in love with her. His family decides to pay a visit so they arrange for an aghjiktes. Once again after much niceties and talking about the weather etc. Kaj Nazar becomes impatient and comes up with this bright idea to sweeten the deal. He says not only his daughter was beautiful and talented she was also seven months pregnant.

What!!!

The guests quickly scramble to the exit in a panic. Nazar stops them saying “ What’s the hurry? Why are you all running away? Let me explain. Some time ago I was trying to sell a cow. I would take her downtown every day, up and down street announcing her virtues , how beautiful she was etc. Days passed, weeks passed, no takers, I had even lowered the price. No go. Until one day I had this bright idea and announced that the cow was not only beautiful and healthy she was also seven months (yot amsu) pregnant. She was sold within minutes.”

:):)

:hammer: :hammer:

That numskull Kaj Nazar!

What a genius!!

KAJ NAZAR for PRESIDENT!

:dunce:

True, it could be done. But not all guys are like that. Most guys would just give you the ring and tell you so shut up. Kidding, well a little. :P

You know Mosjan jan my husband didn't even come down to his knees; I don't know why I married him.  :D  :D

wrong janik! ...thats why you married him, and in general IF a man comes down to his kness one should not marry him :)

You guys are putting a 'media spin' on this...

No one gets 'down on his knees' to propose marriage!!!?? Do they? Y'all make it sound like begging! The correct expression is to 'get down on ONE knee'. It is NOT begging whatsoever - it is a chivalric gesture of honour & respect. After all, you want to make her feel like a princess, right? :)
