  1. I have to admit that one of the best things about Armenians in general is how they take care of their kids ... so I hear you Mosjan jan ... but there is probably a line somewhere ... top of the line super car for highschool graduation, for me, is a bit passed that line. But $600 for Harutik sounds like Xmas in July!!!!
  2. ... and watched CNN in LA and invested in the stock market. Shahan, if you read this, I am kidding bud. But it might help if you started listing what makes you happy during the day (we already know you are fond of San Francisco, Canada, and maybe Orange Country -- so at least that's a start)
  3. I never understood that whole tinting thing ... and what's with driving with fog lights on in LA? Is the weather really that bad? A friend of mine got a fog light ticket in Glendale and he was so pissed at the cop ... I got a good kick out of it. But the funniest is my dad ... he got a ticket for not having turned his wheel toward the curb while parked on a downhill in Glendale ... I couldn't stop laughing when he told me.
  4. Sure no problem ... my comment was regarding the kids that drive late model beamers and merc's and super luxury SUV's as their own private car (not borrowed from daddy). Heck my own cousin got a brand new bmw M3 as highschool graduation present!!!! That is not an ordinary car .. that is a super car. He is a very good kid from a good family and I am very happy that he got it ... but there is no way in hell he could have afforded anything like that on his own (he still can't after like 10 years) My first car that I got myself was my 92 blazer ... I saved for almost a year working a full summer and I was able to make the downpayment on it! I think at the time I bought it, it was something like $12K (I was 2nd year in college). Then the next few years I sank like another 5-6K into it and another 4-5K just fixing things that broke but that's another story At least I learned REALLY well how to fix everything on that truck which has paid for itself maybe 1000x times since then. By the way, I am not saying this is an "Armenian" thing ... but I can't see myself handing the keys to such a vehicle to my kid (if I ever have one) before he or she has been able to earn it on his or her own. They are getting a 1982 burgandy station wagon as their first car ... just like I did
  5. By the way, let's not forget the $5000 "rims", the $3000 sound system, and the $2000 navigation systems that go along as pretty much mandatory accessories that go on these cars Now don't get me wrong ... if they can do it, all the power to them. God knows I have (and continue to) spend a lot on cars and boat etc ... But I sincerely hope they are getting those things through hard work and by earning things rather than either having mommy and daddy provide those or dare I say, through the "not so legit" means of acquiring wealth.
  6. Em, it is very hard for me to accept that a 16-19 year old kid in Glendale is able to afford a $50K+ European luxury car by "working". Even if we start with the H2 that you mentioned, they go for well over $50k ... let's even say the lease is $500 a month (very conservative) ... insurance can easily be over $100 a month (again very conservative) ... add gas and maintenance, a car like that easily requires over $800 a month. A kid making $10/hour must be working full time (160 hours a month) to be able to afford $800 a month with only 1/2 her income. And that's not even counting all the taxes and mandatory stuff that get taken out of paychecks ... it is more like a kid would have to be working full time and spend all she makes on a car like that and even then, it is highly suspect that she could afford it all by herself.
  7. In Shahan's defense, he is a fairly equal opportunity hater. There is not much he is happy about it seems.
  8. Are these two now the Armenian version of the "Dixie Chicks"?
  9. Well for the record (referring to many other such discussions), I respect the phonetics and recognize it as a legitimate dialect. I just don't think it's "Armenian".
  10. Excellent!!! Now that's the kind of post I really enjoy reading.
  11. All my friends, my two brothers, and myself are all products of public schools in LA and all of us have become very successful post highschool. Most of us have gone on to UCLA and a few to SC and many went on to pursue post graduate level degrees (my youngest brother is starting his 3rd year at UCLA). Los Angeles has its problems but it is really far from the crap hole you often make it out to be. There are a VERY large number of Armenian students that go on to CSUN, UCLA, Cal Poly, USC, and of course the community colleges (GCC, Pierce, etc) after highschool and almost all of them come out of the public schools. Now as far as San Francisco ... I can't stand that town.
  12. OH excuuuuuuuuse me. How about the iPhone? Doesn't cingular have it? I bet you'd bet that would get you a lot of chicks!!!!! (not that you need any, but still).
  13. With a basturma hat, I might attract Movses, Harut, and Yervant ... that's really NOT what I want to do
  14. You getting the pink one to match the hippo?
  15. I am no expert on this topic by any means but I do know that energetic people with genuinely sincere wishes can often f*ck things up beyond belief. "Genuine sincerety" and the "wish to contribute" does not "a qualified expert" one make.
  16. That's funny stuff delala ... I personally never ask a woman if she is fat. The answer is always yes. So it is a useless question About the pictures, that should be standard practice. As a very cool guy (MJ) around here once said (I might be paraphrasing a bit), a blind date is a bad idea because it's very hard to find someone who is willing to be blind. I think it is a VERY bad sign if a girl is hesitant to send pictures before a meeting in real life, there are only really 2 possibilities: 1. Really can't send pictures - i.e. she is a moron. 2. Doesn't want to send pictures - either very ugly or completely paranoid.
  17. Are you saying Armenian men in America are naturally losers? What's wrong with not wanting to look like a loser?
  18. That's awesome!!!! They should have had her say other things too

  20. But at least the girl's family is being really good about things and not turning this into some racial thing.
