  1. This topic was suppose to be about the film (and useful resources, inputs).. but we again managed to turn it into a dispute... pity.
  2. Hi guys, I have restarted the work on the film about the genocide and I wanted to let you know about it. I work in a big post-production house in Tel Aviv now and I have all the help and advice on how to make this film, I think it’s a perfect opportunity to utilize the possibilities I have to make this film after all. So I wanted to ask if you could help me a little with research (if you have any time available), with regard to : 1. the look of an Armenian village at the beginning of 20th century, in particular with regard to interiour of an average village house 2. possible wardrobes – Armenian costumes. I have started to draw the storyboard, scene by scene, I feel I can really do this. Its possible. The synopsis is available on http://armeniangenocideposters.org/film/ - if u like, look through it - any relevant visual material (photographs, drawings) would be greatly appreciated - forward it to my gmail – 15levels@gmail.com with subject line - "300 seconds" materials Many thanks in advance for help, Ruben
  3. High-level talks in Ankara lead to new $1.5b arms deals between Turkey, Israel By Amnon Barzilai Israel and Turkey are currently discussing further security cooperation that would involve the refurbishment of another 48 of the Turkish air force's F-4 Phantoms and some 200-300 M48 Patton tanks belonging to Turkey's armored corps. Turkey is also looking into the possibility of purchasing Israeli-made Harpy unmanned aerial vehicles. The potential scope of the arms deals under discussion is estimated at some $1.5 billion. A Defense Ministry delegation, headed by ministry director general Amos Yaron, was in Turkey last week to meet with senior Turkish Defense Ministry officials, who said they wanted Israel's defense industries to play a part in the modernization of Turkey's military. The series of discussions in Ankara saw the formulation of a joint work program for the two armies in the coming year. The Israeli and Turkish defense establishments are considering broadening the cooperation that alreadys exists between the two countries' air and sea forces to include the land forces too. In 1997, Israel Aircraft Industries won its first tender as principal contractor for the refurbishment of Turkish F-4 Phantoms. The deal was worth some $650 million. That same year, IAI, in conjunction with Elbit Systems and Singapore's aircraft industry, won a contract to refurbish Turkish air force F-5 fighter jets. It emerged in last week's talks that the Turkish chief of staff and his deputy, the commander of the Turkish air force, wants IAI to do the overhaul work on the aircraft, while Turkey's deputy defense minister would like to see the local aircraft industry do the work. Turkish Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul is expected to rule on the matter. The talks last week also included a progress report on Israel Military Industries' project to refurbish 170 Patton tanks for Turkey's armored corps, at a cost of some $680 million. IMI is currently completing a prototype of the refurbished tank that will then be passed on to Turkey for mass production by the local military industry. It was noted in last week's talks that the tank-refurbishment project will only be economically viable if an additional 200-300 tanks are overhauled. A final decision will be made after IMI completes the prototype of the improved tank. The political changes in Turkey and the rise to power of the Islamic party has not caused any changes in the relations between the Israel and Turkish defense establishments, sources stressed after last week's discussions.
  4. Good idea, however those posters are really poorly designed (my opinion as a graphic designer with 12 years of experience), they could have done a better job, the posters are works of an amateur and thats a pity... the text is hardly readable, the layout is too busy and there is virtually no design work done on it... I think we did much better at http://Armeniangenocideposters.org

    Election 2004

Dear Friends, Ok, it sucks. Really sucks. But before you go and cash it all in, let's, in the words of Monty Python, “always look on the bright side of life!” There IS some good news from Tuesday's election. Here are 17 reasons not to slit your wrists: 1. It is against the law for George W. Bush to run for president again. 2. Bush's victory was the NARROWEST win for a sitting president since Woodrow Wilson in 1916. 3. The only age group in which the majority voted for Kerry was young adults (Kerry: 54%, Bush: 44%), proving once again that your parents are always wrong and you should never listen to them. 4. In spite of Bush's win, the majority of Americans still think the country is headed in the wrong direction (56%), think the war wasn't worth fighting (51%), and don’t approve of the job George W. Bush is doing (52%). (Note to foreigners: Don't try to figure this one out. It's an American thing, like Pop Tarts.) 5. The Republicans will not have a filibuster-proof 60-seat majority in the Senate. If the Democrats do their job, Bush won't be able to pack the Supreme Court with right-wing ideologues. Did I say "if the Democrats do their job?" Um, maybe better to scratch this one. 6. Michigan voted for Kerry! So did the entire Northeast, the birthplace of our democracy. So did 6 of the 8 Great Lakes States. And the whole West Coast! Plus Hawaii. Ok, that's a start. We've got most of the fresh water, all of Broadway, and Mt. St. Helens. We can dehydrate them or bury them in lava. And no more show tunes! 7. Once again we are reminded that the buckeye is a nut, and not just any old nut -- a poisonous nut. A great nation was felled by a poisonous nut. May Ohio State pay dearly this Saturday when it faces Michigan. 8. 88% of Bush's support came from white voters. In 50 years, America will no longer have a white majority. Hey, 50 years isn't such a long time! If you're ten years old and reading this, your golden years will be truly golden and you will be well cared for in your old age. 9. Gays, thanks to the ballot measures passed on Tuesday, cannot get married in 11 new states. Thank God. Just think of all those wedding gifts we won't have to buy now. 10. Five more African Americans were elected as members of Congress, including the return of Cynthia McKinney of Georgia. It's always good to have more blacks in there fighting for us and doing the job our candidates can't. 11. The CEO of Coors was defeated for Senate in Colorado. Drink up! 12. Admit it: We like the Bush twins and we don't want them to go away. 13. At the state legislative level, Democrats picked up a net of at least 3 chambers in Tuesday's elections. Of the 98 partisan-controlled state legislative chambers (house/assembly and senate), Democrats went into the 2004 elections in control of 44 chambers, Republicans controlled 53 chambers, and 1 chamber was tied. After Tuesday, Democrats now control 47 chambers, Republicans control 49 chambers, 1 chamber is tied and 1 chamber (Montana House) is still undecided. 14. Bush is now a lame duck president. He will have no greater moment than the one he's having this week. It's all downhill for him from here on out -- and, more significantly, he's just not going to want to do all the hard work that will be expected of him. It'll be like everyone's last month in 12th grade -- you've already made it, so it's party time! Perhaps he'll treat the next four years like a permanent Friday, spending even more time at the ranch or in Kennebunkport. And why shouldn't he? He's already proved his point, avenged his father and kicked our ass. 15. Should Bush decide to show up to work and take this country down a very dark road, it is also just as likely that either of the following two scenarios will happen: a) Now that he doesn't ever need to pander to the Christian conservatives again to get elected, someone may whisper in his ear that he should spend these last four years building "a legacy" so that history will render a kinder verdict on him and thus he will not push for too aggressive a right-wing agenda; or He will become so cocky and arrogant -- and thus, reckless -- that he will commit a blunder of such major proportions that even his own party will have to remove him from office. 16. There are nearly 300 million Americans -- 200 million of them of voting age. We only lost by three and a half million! That's not a landslide -- it means we're almost there. Imagine losing by 20 million. If you had 58 yards to go before you reached the goal line and then you barreled down 55 of those yards, would you stop on the three yard line, pick up the ball and go home crying -- especially when you get to start the next down on the three yard line? Of course not! Buck up! Have hope! More sports analogies are coming!!! 17. Finally and most importantly, over 55 million Americans voted for the candidate dubbed "The #1 Liberal in the Senate." That's more than the total number of voters who voted for either Reagan, Bush I, Clinton or Gore. Again, more people voted for Kerry than Reagan. If the media are looking for a trend it should be this -- that so many Americans were, for the first time since Kennedy, willing to vote for an out-and-out liberal. The country has always been filled with evangelicals -- that is not news. What IS news is that so many people have shifted toward a Massachusetts liberal. In fact, that's BIG news. Which means, don't expect the mainstream media, the ones who brought you the Iraq War, to ever report the real truth about November 2, 2004. In fact, it's better that they don't. We'll need the element of surprise in 2008. Feeling better? I hope so. As my friend Mort wrote me yesterday, "My Romanian grandfather used to say to me, 'Remember, Morton, this is such a wonderful country -- it doesn't even need a president!'" But it needs us. Rest up, I'll write you again tomorrow. Yours, Michael Moore

    My Works

Armen, I don't like post-processing my photographs. Usually its only correction of white balance/contrast which is necessary because of the digital sources or scans of negatives. About Sinai- if you ever been there then you must know thats the real color of the desert in sunset. Its only of the most incredible places on the face of the earth. Visit it when you can- its an unforgettable experience (the best diving possible, among others...). ps. Thanks for the kind words.

    "mayrig"

I was wondering if anyone can tell me whether its possible to find "Mayrig" with english subtitles? I heard that there was a problem with the distribution of it in US, can anyone provide any details on what happened? I think its a brilliant film, by far better than anything ever filmed on the subject (including Ararat). Incredible cast and direction, emotional, sincere - truly spectacular film.
  11. Its interesting, actually, watching it I noticed that in the years I left Armenia my language became very clean of the slang, as if it was a concious (or subconcious) effort.. its still very funny.. nairi, post more!!!
  12. I didnt like his most popular book. I think he is preaching. I like Milan Kundera far far far more. Still its good he stoped by
  13. Funny about those "Made in Turkey" advertisings. I guess I just have to take time to design another poster for that "Made in Turkey" idea... ..another one for our Posters competition. So lets get creative. Tell me your opinion, what ELSE is "Made in Turkey"?
  14. Armen jan. I dont think all of us live with the "victim syndroms". this is more a matter of honor for me, for example. I dont consider myself a victim and yet I will do anything in my power (design posters for example, raise awareness among those who dont know) to have it recognized by as many countries as possible. Yes, great unjustice was done to us, yet we survived and builded. So we are not victims. We just want justice so we can light a candle for 1.5 million souls which perished under the turkish knife. That's how I see it at least.

    House Music

Yes I agree about Vava's comment on house. Nevertheless there are tracks that stand out, and SomaFM plays a lot of them on Beatblender and Secret Agent. I also like a lot Air and Afterlife, Massive Attack and Depesh Mode So you see, good music is GOOD MUSIC

    House Music

Here is a little something for you: 2 radio stations broadcasting 24/7 the best beats around: http://www.hbr1.com http://www.somafm.com (check out the Secret Agent station - with quotes from James Bond movies in the breaks butween some tracks.. mixes well!) Enjoy! I listen to it all the time online. No more CDs, no more MP3. Just streaming radio online. Only I guess its a little problem to have it on a move in a car (not impossible in Japan thought- they have high-speed WAP everywhere)...

  20. So our kings intermarried as far as Austria? --------- Leo II of Armenia (died 1219 ) / (interesting! - Fifth Crusade (1217-1221) ) was king of Armenia Leo was married twice: first to Isabelle of Austria, and then to Sybilla of Lusignan (was the daughter of Amalric II of Jerusalem and Isabella of Jerusalem.) She was the second wife of Leo II of Armenia, by whom she had one daughter, Isabella of Armenia. Leo named his daughter Isabella There have been several women known as Isabella (or Zabel) of Armenia. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Queen Isabella of Armenia (died c.1252) ruled Armenia from 1219 to 1252. She was the daughter of Leo II of Armenia and Sybilla of Lusignan (daughter of Aimery of Cyprus). Leo named Isabella as his heir, despite the existence of his grandson (son of his eldest daughter Rita) and Raymond-Rupen (grandson of Rupen III of Armenia). He was the son of Stephen I of Armenia and Retha de Barbaron. He had two daughters by his wife, Isabella of Toron: Alice (born 1182), who married Raimund, Count of Tripolis, and Philippa (born 1183), who married Theodore I Komnenos Laskaris, Emperor of Nicea. On his death he was succeeded by his brother Leo II. On his death Leo was succeeded by his daughter Isabella. Here is the link I just came across...
  21. That Mrs. Jones joke rocked!! I dont know if you heard this one (can check it, as this thread is FAAAR TOO LONG), but its a good blonde joke: What does blonde ask when she is told she is pregnant? - "Is it mine?"
  22. Yes, indeed, Azat, his role in Stone's film was astounishing. He will be missed on the big (or small) screen.
  23. Please have your say on BBC website. We need Armenian voices there. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/talking_point/3683204.stm
