I run firewall on my pc but email viruses are a problem for me, norton antivirus is so heavy, it slows down the performance of the muchine significantly.

We (students of the Art Institute and Terlemezian) were the first help to arrive in Nalband village (which was the epicenter of the earthquake). I have seen with my own eyes the ruins of Leninakan and Spitak, you are so right, the blame is on those who stole the building materials, those who closed their eyes on the theft and/or profit from it indirectly. I dont think those people sleep well at night even today. Today Guimri is still in very bad shape, I was there on the way to Agchbat Monastery, we passed Spitak on the way too. So difficult to see how hard the life is there for people. I want you to take a look at this: http://photography.15levels.com/abstract.c...ndonedchild.jpg My heart was bleeding...

There is even something worst that spam- say someone uses YOUR email address to send VIRUSES to people. Most of those a**holes cover their trail and the IP of the sender is difficult to trace. One, however, I managed and reported him, his account was shut. But what to do with others?

Little old but good news for the Armenian community here in Israel, in particular in the Old City- the dispute over Der Baron property near Betlehem is resolved. Israel is prepared to relocate the fence and compensate for damage. Actually its the first time in a long long time Israel is doing something "right" in regards to the Armenians, (it was "wrong" in the first place, to take over the property of the Armenian church, but here everyone is paranoid about the security and when it comes to it - the fence is suppose to prevent terrorists from infiltrating to Israel- then moral sides of this are not really considered). I think its also a wise decision not to push Armenians even further away- sooner or later the Old City Jerusalem will be divided butween Israel and the Palestinians, and it will be up to Armenians to decide which side of the fence they wanna be. Well, my personal opinion is that there is very little guarantee that the law and order will apply to Armenians if Palestinians going to rule over the Armenian Quarter- Israel however can ensure it- but what kind of law is it going to be? Until now it only discriminated Armenians (and everybody else nonjewish). So basicly until Israel adopts a principal that all its citizens (including christian and muslim) are EQUAL there is little hope that Armenian community will enjoy well treatment from the state. So which one of the two evils are we going to choose? Anarchy of Arafat or Israel's "law and order" (to be precise- "law and order" of the right government of Sharon and alikes. There ARE israeli politicians (like Yossi Beilin, Yossi Sarid and others) who will do the policy change when/if they come to power)? [ December 08, 2002, 04:02 AM: Message edited by: Rouben Malayan ]

Hi Arpa. Well, you probably can see that some Armenians in the diaspora have achieved a considerable amount of fame, its not like the whole race fell into the river of darkness and oblivion. Talent is something which is coded in the genetics somehow, and I still insist that there is a lot of talent in Armenia itself as well as in the diaspora. The problem is that we do not work together, we sabotage each other efforts and fail all together. Its very rarely that we see examples of the opposite behavour. For example, someone got talent in arts or music- those who have connections or ability to promote it, stimulate it, should do so. Too often it's just selfish behavour and nothing else. But then, how do you cultivate such thing in nation? So we got funds like Gulbenkian and AGBU, but how many talented Armenians fail to receive any support from anybody, especially in Armenia proper? The other issue you touched is suffering the consequences of events we had no control of. The ghost of the genocide is never gonna leave until Armenian achieve some sort of acknowlegment and apology. Yes, it blocks the development of the nation on the large scale, but could it be otherwise? The modern history of Armenia (and the big chunk of the ancient one) is a history of suffering. We have to solve the biggest problems we have until we can cure the pshyco of the nation. Thats what I think. ps. btw, WHO IS the autor of above mentioned quote, are you saying Lord Byron never wrote that and if yes, who did? I am waiting for my Sony DCSF707 5 megapixel(sold 505v and bought newer much better version)... I can tell you that if you own Epson 2000P for example and use Epson paper you get a very good results from digital sources. Just make sure you are printing at 300 dpi. I also have 35mmm Canon EOS 100 with Sigma 28-200 lense. I did not touch it since I bought digital camera. Why? Because now photography costs me much less than before. btw- if you like to see my results of shooting with 505v go to http://photography.15levels.com/ [ December 05, 2002, 04:34 AM: Message edited by: Rouben Malayan ]

quote:I can tell you are a great admirer of Byron. Rightfully so. You are not alone, you are not the only incurably narcissistic Armenian who are ready to call god any one who says even one nice word about us. This is not the proper subject topic to address that. I must warn you, you will not like what I have to say about the subject. Suffice it to say that that letter by Lord Byron would make an excellent tapanagir, en epitaph, you know, those nice words that we inscribe on the gravestones of the dearly departed. No wonder. We were almost "dearly departed" in those days and if things keep up/down we may be "dearly departed" again in the near future.Arpa, its no shame to take pride in our achievments but still remain realistic and objective to our own faults and flaws. Armenians are talented people who contributed a lot to the world' culture, so it makes me proud (yes, proud) to read such admiration from one of the greatest poets of all times. Lets separate dirt from the gold. We got plenty of both. Regards, Rouben

564312, could I ask you to tell me where did you take that quote from Byron, I need exact refference, if possible. Many thanks, and nice to meet you.

Was surprised to find out that there is a remake of famous Tarkovsky movie "Solaris"... Curiously enough a role of Gibarian in the story is played by Ulrich Tukur (sounds like a turkish name to me, however he was born in Germany). The film is directed by Steven Soderbergh starring George Clooney, Natascha McElhone, Jeremy Davies, Viola Davis. The official site is on http://www.solaristhemovie.com/ Here is a brief introduction by Christopher Null at Filmcritic.com - "Fear not, Clooney fans. Those two already-infamous shots of George's butt are alive and well in the long-talked-about but barely-anticipated Solaris -- a remake of the equally infamous 1972 Russian sci-fi epic (known for its stark photography, a near-three-hour running time that challenges even the most patient viewer, and a reputation for being utterly incomprehensible). I'm pleased to say that the remake is less stark, substantially shorter (97 minutes or so), and makes a little more sense. That said, I'd rather have been watching the original film." I dont know if I agree with definition of "utterly incomprehensible", as I absolutely loved it, as I love ALL Tarkovsky movies for their philosophy, photography and incredible acts. Long doesnt mean boring, does it?

Domino, thanks a lot for your reviews, I haven't seen the movie yet (I will be in London from 12th to 17th of december and hopefully will see it there, if possible), but now after reading your post I will pay closer attention to the story and the characters. Thanks again.

Thanks everyone for your inputs, yes, the catch here is of course the game with Absolut. I removed any reference to the actual trademark from the poster, therefore the connection is purely symbolic. I have made few versions of this concept (in some images of the genocide were used but I wasnt convinced), but this one I liked the most since its very clean and to the point. Red is symbolizing the blood spilled by the Ottomans, the Turkish flag is drowning in it and the rest- you make the assumptions. Of course it might be tricky for someone who has NO idea about the Armenian Genocide, but its not intended for that kind of audience. I tried not to make any connections to alcohol whatsoever, just as it is in many posters designed using the concept of something being "Absolut". The message I wanted to be heard is simple: Turkey is in the state of ABSOLUT DENIAL - does it do it? I hope so. Thanks again for your opinions. Rouben

did it go unnoticed..? i was just curious, someone said to me it's "controversial" so I just wanted some opinions. thanks in advance, Rouben ps. it can be also found online at http://www.armeniangenocideposters.org/ima...solutdenial.jpg

"..Farewell, happy fields, Where joy for ever dwells! Hail, horrors! hail, Infernal World! and thou, profounest Hell, Recieve thy new possessor- one who brings A mind not to be changed by place or time. The mind is its own place, and in itself Can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven." "Paradase Lost" John Milton Book I 249-255 Anyone care to comment on this? If not, just wanted to share this with you, though has nothing to do with Armenian poetry, but still a fascinating poetical language...

I think when humans will depend on the muchines too much- thats going to be the beginning of the end. Computer technogoly will only advance, in a great speed, we will start relying on muchines more and more, until they gain a momentum and we'll have a "Matrix" de facto. And yes, me too, much more affraid of a nuclear holocaust scenario rather than planet earth being drawn to the sun. We did not make this planet, but we can definitely ruin it. Population of this planet grows by 250.000 every day. Do you get it???? 250.000 people EVERY DAY. [ November 05, 2002, 03:13 PM: Message edited by: Rouben Malayan ]

dear friends. we need to raise 100$ to keep http://Armeniangenocideposters.org online. What it takes is one time credit card payment to the host in US. Unfortunately I am in no position to spare any money (no job just yet), so thats why I am asking if anyone knows anybody who'd wish to donate this money for our cause. The domain will be valid till november 2003 but the hosting account expires in 2 weeks time. So we rather act quickly or the site which has already received more than 20.000 visitors in a year will unfortunately go down. If any more information is needed plz write to info@armeniangenocideposters.org many thanks, Rouben

Hello everyone. Google newsgroups introduced lately a feature of "Sponsored Links" on the newsgroup page. I would like to ask for some support, if anyone would like to take a minute and write to Google administration to stop placing "sponsored links" related to Turkey on alt.culture.armenian . I think we have enough to advertise ourselves, its highly unfair that people who read news/postings about Armenia should be fed advertisments about Turkey. Any help would be highly appreciated. The sct can be accessed here I dont know how really to contact the administration of google otherwise I would post the info here. Can anyone help?
