Azat should know this, then: Okay I am not sure that it was in the Capitoline Museum and it is Constantine not Alexander. Facing the road, enclosed on three sides with buildings (not sure if they were individual or linked underground)... Bronze, and an emperor other than Constantine (who usually is not depicted with a beard) - can't even say one I know anything about. So who is this equestrian? OK, here's another one. Just a stop-gap on the way back from Pompei, and the picture is not mine, of course, but this place is where Odysseus a.k.a. Ulysses and his men overcame the Sirens. Maybe the only thing it was proportional to was the size of the subject's ego. Azat is right, it was part of a colossal statue of the emperor Constantine - his other foot, head, a hand, a knee, and other assorted body parts are in the Capitoline Museum, Rome. Most of the missing pieces were probably made of bronze, and got melted down sometime. Once upon a time it stood inside a huge civic basilica that became the prototype of all early Christian basilica churches. The equestrian state is also in Rome, is bronze, from about 173AD, and is of emperor Marcus Aurelius. It is the archetype of all equestrian statues produced from the early Renaissance onwards.
