i didnt mean cool as the idea presented in the article is cool- what i meant by cool was that people actually read the New University newspaper- which is mainly known by UCIrvine students- i didn not know that it was this popular- so excuse my misrepresentation of thought

i completely agree- its horrific to be thought of as in the same category as arabs, jews, ... etc. i think it to be ridiculous to categorize (racially/ethnically/ideologically) armenians arabs jews... etc together jsut becasue they/we live in the same region- its degrading-

"One of the peoples that constitute Armenians" would have made much sense. It's altogether possible. That Armenians are Semites, of course, is not, but I don't think he means that precisely anyway. You look at old photos of Armenians from the north, and they're different from those of the south, east vs. west, etc. And who is there along the southern borders? Arabs. Kurds (though in this case you had Armenians assimilated INTO the Kurdish communities)... I'm sure there must have been plenty of interchange and eloping a coupla thousand years ago along those borders before the peoples of Syria were Arabised, forcibly, too.

Why are you guys so concerned about how you're labelled? If it's false - it's false. Great. Why worry?

Would it be so 'degrading' if Armenians were put in the same category as the British? Or the Swedes? Or maybe East Indians would be more acceptable and less 'degrading' ?? C'mon folks - these ideas of racial/ethnic superiority are better left in the trash cans of the past century.

With another thought I want to add is

How ironic, do you actually believe others give a damn (like our other problems and short comings are accomplished) of who we are? And the very last thing we as Armenians need to worry about is being Semitic or decedents of Incas?

People, we have far more serious and immediate problems to solve, when luxury of time permits then MAYBE we can worry what or how they associate as. If one thing there to say is, who gives a damn about it anyways what or few illiterate says or thinks (most of those cant even point out where Armenia is on the map anyways) you worry about your own (collective) survival first, and let the moron educate himself.

even if he is completely correct. what the freaking difference does it make for ANYONE? ... exect for those who make profit by representing armenians as some certain "things".

The paradox of the situation is that we escaped the Turkish scimitar 90 years ago only to face extinction today by our own hands.

Well we have fought for centuries in defence of our Christian Faith only to apostatize it today that we are no longer being oppressed. Aren't you one of those very apostates? You might rant at "modernity" all you want, judging from your ideology whose premises are naturalistic/materialistic, you unconsciously bear its rotten fruit.

Vigil I think you should stop making distinctions between 'humans' and 'Armenians' because a large part of the behaviour you describe is just normal cultural developement, which has happened to every culture and nation, but somehow you seem to think that we are an exception. We aren't, as you well can see. Yes, we have 'thug life' losers as well. There are fools in every country. Women marry odars, yes. But not most of them. If you just let it go, maybe our women won't feel as restrained, ever considered that? If you stop telling people what to do, maybe they will see things for themselves.

Why don't you just let Armenia become a nation like others? We will still have our distinctive features. After all, isn't that what we want? Live our lives like other without having to worry about genocide recognition or whatever?

the very notion of believing in "Christianity" places us behind the "Jew" due to the fact that at the very end the Christian faith places "Jews" as "Gods chosen people".

Your understanding of "God's chosen people" is the judeo-materialistic one, not the christian one.

It’s not "our Christian" faith and it will never be "our faith" because it does not come from Armenia nor does it relate to us in any manner

So please, tell me, what does relate to Armenia? Your ideology itself is not armenian in any sense of the word.

PS: I use the term materialistic and modernity in the "philosophical" sense, not in the common one. (I put the word in quotes for it sounds a bit pretentious ;) )

PPS: Please understand that I'm not pushing for what you refer to as "modernity" or "pop culture" as your friend TAP likes to put it.

Sorry for repeating myself, our assimilation in today's modern/judaized society is first and foremost a spiritual one. biological assimilation is a direct consequence of spiritual assimilation. race in itself is not worth preserving, we are not animals. spirit is, for we are humans. race is only to be preserved if it helps the development and preservation of the spirit. it does to a certain extent but it is clearly not sufficient (just look at some "full-blooded" armenians on this board) and it certainly should not stand as an end in itself.
