Armat
I got a few of my friends to read it, needless to say all of them love it. The writing is, and I hate to describe it that way, beautiful that it pulls the reader in. And I am totally interested in Tarkovsky, please don't give it away, right now there is no way I can read it, but come winter I will be begging you. I will give you a notarized slip that I will take care of the book and return it to you in perfect condition. I hope you'll consider me as a possible borrower. style_images/master/snapback.png Ani jan you can borrow it anytime. As a matter of fact I am putting in my fire prove safe

Anoushik
I recently finished The Red Tent by Anita Diamant. I found the book lying around somewhere in the house some months ago. It turned out to be my brother's. He read it in English class in college. I looked it up online and on Amazon.com it had great ratings. So, I decided to read it. It's the worst book I've ever read in my life. The subject matter is very immoral (it's about the Biblical Jacob's family, but with more carnal and less spiritual feel) and the writing is juvenile. After the first paragraph I realized that the book is trash, but wanted to finish it to get an idea of why my brother had been required to read it and why so many people like it. I don't get it. Maybe it's the same reason why people listen to Britney Spears and watch Kim Kardashian shows. I just think it's a pity that colleges choose such low literature for their classes instead of masterpieces of Chekhov, Faulkner, and Tolstoy. Em
Wow! I just read through this thread and was so suprised to see two very speacial and meaningful books (for me) mentioned here. If someone were to go to my bedroom, in the second drawer of my nightstand they would find: The Prophet (Gibran) "Your joy is your sorrow unmasked". & The Little Prince (de Saint-Exupéry ). Anoushik
BTW.. Marquez's "Love In the Time of Cholera" has been made into a film and is playing everywhere currently. I've never read that book and it's been on my list of books to read. Then I read in TIME that they were making a movie and wanted to read it before seeing the movie. But then I read 1984 and The Red Tent But this week's TIME reviewed the film and gave it a "D". So, I think I'm going to skip the film for now and read the book. vava
Has anyone read "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseni? I read it little while back, and was quite captivated by the storytelling. I believe it was a best-seller in the US even though it was the author's first novel.
AK-47
These days I have time to read only in my 'local' Turkish Embassy (i.e. the toilet)! LOL, couldn't have said it any better. I hear you gamavor.

The movie taints my interpretation of the writing and I become torn between my imagination and the director's potrayal/ version. Have you read Great Expectations? Seen the recent movie version? I love both equally.

I did see the movie once, the one with Gwyneth Paltrow.

My infatuation with that novel began in early high school years. And the recent popularity of the book has to do with the fact that Oprah made it one of her book club picks last year. So housewives across America started debating amongst themselves... to cheat or not to cheat....
