Canadian MP Bob Saroya condemns Azerbaijani Military aggression on the Armenian population of Karabakh

“I strongly condemn the acts of aggression by the Azerbaijani Military who launched multiple offensives against the ethnic Armenian population of Nagorno Karabakh, in direct violation of a 1994 ceasefire.

The hostilities that have ensued are a serious threat to the stability of the region. The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group, charged with mediating this conflict, must hold the Azerbaijani leadership accountable for its actions if it is to reach a peaceful solution.

The Conservative Caucus supports an immediate return to a true ceasefire and meaningful negotiations.

My prayers are with the families on both sides of the front lines who have lost loved ones as a result of this reckless aggression.”

The Federation Council of the Russian Federation offered to cease the supply of military equipment to Azerbaijan and reminded that Russia had a strong support to Azerbaijan in the formation of the armed forces, including in the form of supplies of modern technology. “But we are extremely dissatisfied about the way they are now using this technique, and we can say about it, demand and exert some pressure. Of course, Russia can stop the sale of weapons to Azerbaijan, unless the escalation of armed conflict is terminated and, in this case, everything that happens on the border with the use of the armed forces of Azerbaijan, is, we can say, extremely aggressive in nature”, the first deputy chairman of the Defense and Security Committee of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Franz Klintsevich told “Govorit Moskva” radio.

According to him, in this case heavy weapons, reactive systems of volley fire were used. “At the same time, some sources say that a serious types of weapons were used- TOS 1 systems. This is a very modern weapons, equipped with a thermobaric warhead, and it is usually applied when preparing a serious offensive”, Klintsevich said.

The senator added that the question of cessation of arms supplies to Azerbaijan must also be raised by Russian President Vladimir Putin as "it is an issue of very complex contractual relations, many of which are closed”.

YEREVAN, APRIL 5, ARMENPRESS. Selahattin Demirtas, co-chairman of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party, blames the President of the country Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu for inciting war in Nagorno Karabakh. “Armenpress” reports “Agos” periodical informs about this.

“Nagorno Karabakh is a self-governing region. Armenia and Azerbaijan must settle the issue around negotiation table, as war will be of no benefit any of the sides.

Just from the beginning Erdoğan and Davutoglu started to make war inciting announcements: “Azerbaijan should trample and pass” fit in the logic of inspiring war”, Demirtaş mentioned.

Along the entire length of the contact line of Nagorno Karabakh- Azerbaijani opposing forces, on April 1 and throughout the morning of April 2, the adversary undertook large-scale offensive military actions, during which the adversary shelled with missile-artillery units not only Armenian defense positions, but also civilian settlements.

The Azerbaijani armed forces fired MM-21 (Grad) multiple rocket launcher on April 2, at 08: 30 in the direction of Martuni (NKR), killing 12 year old Vaghinak Grigoryan and wounding two other children. 4 other civilians were wounded later. On April 3 the subversive group of Azerbaijan brutally killed 3 elderly and vandalized their corpses in Talish village.

Due to the timely and professional actions of the Nagorno Karabakh Defense Army, it was possible to take the situation under control, and make the enemy suffer considerable losses.

The Defense Army undertook counteroffensive measures and dominated the strategic position in the direction of Talish, which was earlier occupied by Azerbaijani forces.

Adversary’s losses by April 4: 29 tanks, 3 battle vehicles, 1 military/engineering hardware, 2 helicopters, 6 UAVs, 1 MM-21 artillery system, more than 300 casualties. Number of wounded has yet to be clarified.

Nagorno Karabakh losses: 7 tanks, 20 casualties, 6 of whom officers and non-commissioned officers, 72 wounded, 8 of whom officers and non-commissioned officers. 4 casualties among civilians, 1 of them a child. 5 more people who were on their way to Martakert were killed as a result of bombing the bus on April 4.

Losses of the Azerbaijani side exceed 2,000, Karabakh Defense Ministry says

Twenty-nine Armenian soldiers have been killed, 101 wounded as a result of the clashes along the Nagorno Karabakh line of contact, Colonel Victor Arustamyan, Head of operative department of the NKR Defense Army, told a press conference today. He said that another 28 servicemen are missing.

The Armenian side has lost 14 tanks, while the Azerbaijani side has lost 24 tanks, 4 infantry fighting vehicles, 2 helicopters, 12 drones and 1 Grad multiple launch rocket system. According to Col. Arustamyan, the human losses of the Azerbaijani side exceed 2,000.

He said that the status quo that existed before April 1 has been restored, no Armenia positions or regions are under Azerbaijani control.

Col. Arustamyan added that the ceasefire violations by the Azerbaijani side side continued even after the agreement to cease fire at midday. The rival kept firing in the direction for Martuni, Martakert and Talish, although the ceasefire violations were not very intensive.

Australian MP slams Azerbaijan’s aggression towards Republic of Nagorno Karabakh

The Federal Member for Bennelong, John Alexander, has released a statement condemning Azerbaijan’s aggression towards the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh and the targeting of innocent civilian lives.

“I deplore the recent acts of aggression committed by the Azerbaijan military against ethnic Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh, with reports of civilians being targeted including the shelling of a school in the Martuni region that resulted in the death of a 12 year old boy and the serious injury of two other children,” Alexander said.

Alexander has spoken in Parliament on several occasions regarding the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, and reiterated in his statement that it is an Armenian-populated Republic with people who “enjoy a democratic system of government, a commitment to human rights and a free press that lies in start contrast to their closest neighbour”.

In his statement, Alexander reminds us that this year would mark the 25th Anniversary of Independence for the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, the 28th Anniversary of the Sumgait Pogroms, and the 101st Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

While slamming Azerbaijan’s aggression, Alexander also condemned the Turkish government’s recent seizure of Armenian, Assyrian and Chaldean Churches in the Diyarbakir region.

In regards to Azerbaijan’s aggression and Turkey’s expropriation, Alexander said: “These historical events remain supremely relevant to Armenian people in Yerevan, Artsakh, Sur and across the globe.”

ANC Australia Executive Administrator Arin Markarian said: “We thank Mr. Alexander for this highly commendable statement during these tough times. Again, his strong stance and voice has shown why he is a great advocate for human rights issues, and a great friend of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh.”

Can Karabakh Pull Back from the Brink?

After a long simmer, the Nagorno-Karabakh war has once again boiled
over. And turning off the heat at this point may not be so easy.

Three days of fighting have left dozens dead and dozens more wounded.
It marks the bloodiest combat between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces
since the signing of a ceasefire agreement in 1994. International
mediators for the OSCE Minsk Group – which is led by the United
States, France and Russia, and is responsible for trying to broker a
lasting Karabakh peace settlement – were scheduled to convene April 5
in Vienna to discuss responses to the renewed fighting.

The situation all along the so-called contact line, the boundary
separating Armenian and Azerbaijani forces since 1994, remains fluid,
with details concerning casualties and territories changing hands
impossible to independently verify. In the early evening of April 4,
Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry claimed their forces had “neutralized up
to 170 Armenian servicemen and 12 armored vehicles” in combat
throughout the day. According to Armenian official sources, the three
days of fighting have left 20 Armenian soldiers killed in action, 76
wounded and 26 missing. There are also numerous reports of civilian
casualties, including an alleged massacre of several elderly Armenian
residents of the border town of Talish. In addition, a funeral was
held April 4 in the village of Her-Her for 12-year-old Vaghinak
Grigoryan, who died while reportedly heading to school.

The explosion of violence on April 2 followed a prolonged period of
escalating tension along the frontlines, including frequent firefights
and occasional casualties. For the past several years, experts have
warned about the rising chances of renewed warfare.

Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry stated all of the country’s positions
along the frontline had experienced heavy shelling over the weekend.
The tensest areas were Aghdere, Tartar, Aghdam, Khojavend, and Fuzuli,
according to military officials.

Thousands of Azerbaijani citizens living near the contact line have
been evacuated to towns farther away. One evacuee was 36-year-old
Ulviyya Aliyeva, who was at home in the village of Azad Karakoyunlu in
Tartar District when the fighting erupted. When the fighting started,
several families gathered in a house that they believed to be out of
the line of fire. But Aliyeva reported being wounded by an explosion
that shattered windows and sent shards of glass flying about the room
in which she was sheltering.

“We would have all been blown up if the bomb fell a meter closer.
Shrapnel made holes in the walls. The ceiling is shattered as well,”
Aliyeva told EurasiaNet.org on April 4.

Male villagers have remained in the town to help with defense efforts.
Women and children have been removed from Azad Karakoyunlu, she said.
“We are now in the neighboring village, but you can still hear the
sound of shooting from here,” she added.

The fighting erupted while both Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and
his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan were in Washington, DC,
attending a March 31-April 1 Nuclear Security Summit. This fact
prompted some observers in Baku to suspect Russia of stoking the
conflict as a means of reasserting its geopolitical primacy in the
region.

“Whenever Azerbaijan takes a step towards the West, Russia shows
itself. It happened right after the presidents of Armenia and
Azerbaijan held meetings with US officials,” political analyst
Zardusht Alizade.

Stirring up hostilities could be Russian President Vladimir Putin’s
way of telling Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders that “I [Putin] am the
lord of this region [the South Caucasus],” Alizade added, without
providing any facts that could substantiate claims of Russian
meddling.

Russian media outlets have kept up a steady stream of alarmist reports
about the conflict, most of it, arguably, targeting Azerbaijan and its
close ally, Turkey, now a bitter foe of Moscow. The Russian
government-linked LifeNews went so far on April 4 as to claim that
“around 60” Azerbaijani terrorists affiliated with Islamic State were
returning home from Syria to take part in the conflict against
Armenian and Karabakhi forces.

For Azerbaijani MP Ali Ahmadov, deputy chairperson and executive
secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, such coverage means that
Russia is taking sides in the conflict. “Russia is one of the
co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group. The mediator should be neutral.
From this point of view, it’s impossible to understand the essence of
anti-Azerbaijani propaganda,” he told reporters.

Most Armenians consider Russia to be their country’s strategic ally.
Nevertheless, some in Yerevan are wary of Moscow’s perceived
priorities concerning the Karabakh conflict.

Political analyst Aghasi Yenokian, director of Yerevan’s Armenian
Center of Political and International Relations, believes that, after
leaving Syria, Russia is searching for new tools to assert itself, and
the Karabakh conflict provides many opportunities.

“Russia, with its active response, shows that if the OSCE Minsk Group
works slowly, [and] international structures work slowly, then a
serious chance opens up for Russia to resolve [the] Karabakh conflict
in a Russian way; that is, by putting Russian peacekeepers on the
[ground],” he reasoned.

Reports surfaced in late 2015 that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei
Lavrov had proposed international peacekeepers to both Armenia and
Azerbaijan. The potential presence of Russian “peacekeepers” in and
around Karabakh would not necessarily be a welcome development for
Yerevan, Yenokian said, adding that Azerbaijan may believe it could
outmaneuver Armenia to curry favor with Russia and thus “get territory
and solve issues with such a solution.”

The renewed fighting has caused a surge in patriotic feelings, and the
public to unite around President Sargsyan’s administration. Hundreds,
if not thousands, of men across the country have volunteered to go
fight in Karabakh.

Decked out in combat fatigues and carrying rifles, elderly,
white-haired men, often singing patriotic songs, have been boarding
buses throughout Armenia to head to the frontline. Lines also have
formed at medical institutes, where people are registering to give
blood, even though specialists say there is no need at present.

Like men filmed by RFE/RL in Yerevan, many of Armenian volunteers
gained combat experience when all-out warfare raged between Armenia
and Azerbaijan over Karabakh from 1988-1994. Veteran volunteers are
tending to organize their own transportation to the front.

“The past two days have shown that our society is united when the
matter refers to the motherland,” commented 35-year-old communications
technology professional Armen Sarukhanian. “I have not seen such unity
and enthusiasm for a long time, when everyone unites as one and stands
up for a common goal.”

Civil activist Christine Asatrian, 33, added that she is pleasantly
surprised that “people are so alert and conscientious and ready.”

“This is the case when people do not think of the policy run by
oligarchs or the government or the like. They get united for the sake
of the motherland, putting aside everything,” she added.

In 2014, both sides managed to pull back from the brink after
frontline clashes led to the deaths of roughly 20 soldiers on both
sides. But the conditions that encouraged restraint two years ago may
have changed, according to Elkhan Mehdiyev, the director of Baku’s
Peace and Conflict Resolution Center.

“Peace for Azerbaijan means the liberation of its territory,
restoration of its sovereignty and peaceful coexistence [with
Armenia],” Mehdiyev said. “A ceasefire is not peace.”

Israeli-made kamikaze drone spotted in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

Video of what appears to be an Israeli-made suicide drone flying over
the disputed area of Nagorno-Karabakh, where Azerbaijan and Armenia
have clashed in recent days, surfaced Tuesday, in what could be one of
the first instances of such a weapon being used in combat.

The drone, based on its distinct wing shape and nose, looks like an
Israeli Aerospace Industries Harop loitering munition. Unlike, for
instance, a Predator drone armed with a Hellfire missile, the Harop
itself is the munition and destroys a target by ramming into it.

[The crisis over Nagorno-Karabakh, explained]

According to the manufacturer’s website, the Harop can be remotely
piloted or it can find targets autonomously based on radar or radio
wave emissions. These two targeting methods are ideal for attacking
enemy air defenses, as the smaller drone can evade weapons and
detection systems designed to target much larger aircraft. The Harop
is the second iteration of the Harpy drone. Unlike the Harop, the
Harpy cannot be remotely piloted and it is autonomous after it is
launched.

In this instance, the Harop apparently targeted a bus full of
“Armenian volunteers,” killing seven, Artsrun Hovhannisyan, a
spokesman for Armenia’s Defense Ministry, said in an interview with
Ria Novosti, a Russian state-run media agency. Hovhannisyan also
posted about the Harop on his Facebook page, according to local media
reports, indicating that it was piloted by Azerbaijani forces.

The Harop sighting came during heavy fighting across the line of
contact separating the autonomous region of Nagorno-Karabakh and
Azerbaijan. In 1991, a conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan broke
out over the disputed territory. It resulted in the establishment of
Nagorno-Karabakh as a quasi-independent Armenian enclave within
Azerbaijan’s borders after a ceasefire was declared in 1994.

It is unclear how many countries use the Harop, although reports
indicate that the drone has been sold to India and Azerbaijan. In a
news release in June, Israeli Aerospace Industries said that “hundreds
of [Harop] systems have been sold to different customers” and that the
drone had “considerable sales potential.”

In recent months, Israeli surveillance drones have been spotted in
Ukraine and Syria.

The Armenian community of Argentina massively demonstrated outside the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the country to denounce the Azeri aggression against the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh on the night of Tuesday, April 5, Agencia Prensa Armenia reports.

After an intense awareness campaign in the Argentine society, all institutions of the community called for peace and recognition of self-determination of the people of Artsakh. The rally was attended by several community representatives and Archbishop Kissag Mouradian, Primate of the Armenian Apostolic Church for Argentina and Chile.

“Azerbaijan has embarked in recent years in the process of expanding its military arsenal and the externalization of their convictions to achieve their goals through weapons. The continued aggressive attitude of Azerbaijan against the civilian population of the Nagorno-Karabakh confirms that a peaceful resolution of the conflict will only be possible respecting the right of self-determination of its people,” reads the statement signed by all community organizations.

“The Armenian community of Argentina expresses its solidarity with the authorities of the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, supports its self-defense forces and reaffirms its commitment to the struggle begun by its people in 1988 that culminated in the declaration of independence in 1991.”

“Given the serious situation in question, we ask the authorities of Argentina to urge the parties to circumscribe the conflict settlement within the framework of the negotiations held in the Minsk Group, and thus avoiding a regional explosion with unpredictable consequences,” ends the statement.

MP: Russia's supply of weapons to Azerbaijan breaks the balance in the region

Russia's supply of weapons to Azerbaijan is not business. It is a violation of the balance of forces in the region, which hampers peaceful resolution of the Karabakh conflict, opposition Armenian lawmaker Khachatur Kokobelyan said in Parliament on April 6, stressing that Azerbaijan launched the offensive on April 2 with Russian military hardware.

He called on the Armenian authorities and political forces to take all measures to demand that Russia - the strategic ally of Armenia, a member of the CSTO and the EEU, and a co-chair country of the OSCE Minsk Group - should be committed to the first provision of the Collective Security Treaty and to the third provision of the Armenian-Russian treaty on friendship, cooperation and mutual support.

For his part, Hrant Bagratyan, ex-prime minister of Armenia, lawmaker from the opposition Armenian National Congress, said that Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan should refuse to attend the forthcoming meeting of the EEU Prime Ministers in Moscow. Head of the Eurasian Economic Commission Board Tigran Sargsyan should not do it either, he said.

"In these hours of need, that meeting should take place in Yerevan. They should come here to support us," he stressed.

Italian Sponda Sud reports that an unconfirmed number of ISIS militants are fighting in Karabakh on the side of Azerbaijan these days.

According to the source, many extremists that fought under flags of the "Islamic caliphate" have gathered in Azerbaijan. During the last months, mass media in Ankara and Baku wrote about Azerbaijani legionaries that have returned from Syria and Iraq. About 300 were killed in fighting, but more than 2,500 are in the territory of Azerbaijan - their new recruiter. Aliyev can send them to Nagorny Karabakh together with the regular army.

Addressing reporters, the President focused on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the Syrian crisis among other issues.

“It’s deplorable that not only Russia but also other CSTO member states sell weapons to Azerbaijan, but we have limited abilities to influence such decisions,” Sargsyan said.

“Azerbaijan possesses better types of weapons which proved to be operable, but power is not entirely about the modernity of weapons. Power is the Armenian and Karabakh people’s determination to protect the motherland at any price.”

“The last three days revealed how the sides battle, how many losses they registered, how we work with the public and report on casualties and the process of what was going on,” he said.

Commenting on the flow of refugees to Europe, the President refused to give an assessment to EU’s steps.

“I am not eligible. The refugee crisis is a major issue for us too, as there are vast Armenian communities in Syria and the Middle East. During the last several years, Armenia has hosted more than 20,000 Syrian Armenians,” Sargsyan noted.

The parties to the Karabakh conflict agreed on a bilateral ceasefire along the contact line which came into force at midday, April 5.

Prior to that, on the night of April 1-2, Azerbaijani armed forces initiated overt offensive operations in the southern, southeastern and northeastern directions of the line of contact with Nagorno Karabakh.

As many as 29 Karabakh servicemen were killed and 101 were wounded in the course of military operations. 28 Karabakh soldiers have gone missing so far.

As of April 5, the Azerbaijani side has lost 26 tanks and 4 infantry fighting vehicles, as well as 1 BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launcher, 2 military helicopters and 11 unmanned aerial vehicles.

Son of murdered Khalapyans did not manage to take his parents out of the village

The son of Valera and Razmela Khalapyan, who were brutally killed by Azerbaijanis on April 2, did not manage to take his parents and grandmother to a safer place, Kamo Nersisyan, the son-in-law of Valera Khalapyan, told A1+.

Nersisyan lives in Yerevan with his family.

Valera was the father of five children. He lived with one of his sons in the village of Talish in Martakert District of Artsakh.

“The son quickly took his family out of the village and returned after his parents but he came under fire by Azerbaijani troops. He narrowly escaped death when the enemy’s bullet flew overhead. His parents were killed within seconds,” Kamo Nersisyan said.

Talish is a few kilometers inside the karabakh border with Azerbaijan. Only a few residents remained in Talish when Azerbaijani soldiers entered on April 2. Azeris shot Valera and Razmela Khalapyan in their home and then cut off their ears. They also executed Marousya Khalapyan, born 1924.

Notorious Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu’s statement confirms the Turkish authorities’ complicity in Azerbaijan’s acts of terror, Vice-Speaker of Armenia’s Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov has stated.

Turkey has always stated that it is ready to support fraternal Azerbaijan, the Turkish FM stated at a meeting of the Azerbaijani, Turkish and Iranian FMs in Ramsar, Iran.

He was also critical of the OSCE Minsk Group.

“It is not surprising at all. The crimes committed by Islamic State terrorists in the Middles East and by Azerbaijani armed forces, particularly the murder of helpless old people in Talysh, show the same style dictated by Turkey. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu’ statement is nothing but a fit because of Azerbaijan’s failed Blitzkrieg,” Mr Sharmazanov said.

“As regards the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, I should note that turkey, which is sponsoring terrorists, has nothing to do in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process,” Mr Sharmazanov said.

American Breitbart News website writes on the incident occurred in Talish during the days of the large-scale violations of the ceasefire by Azerbaijani forces. Italian SpondaSud referring to the military hostilities unleashed on Nagorno Karabakh by Azerbaijan, in a number of publications, noted that Azerbaijan recruited IS fighters from Syria and Iraq to fight against Armenians.

“Azerbaijani soldiers see no difference between soldiers and civilians. Indeed the extreme cruelty Baku militants apply against Armenian civilians reminds about the events of Syria and Iraq,” the newspaper writes.

As a proof SpondaSud cites the murder of an elderly family and the deformation of their bodies in Talysh village, Nagorno Karabakh.

The agency writes that the international community is used to seeing this kind of crimes against civilians committed only by IS terrorists.

According to SpondaSud, the similarity gives ground to believe that Azerbaijan recruited IS fighters to realize ethnic cleansing of Armenians in Nagorno Karabakh.

Yerevan/Mediamax/. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused Russia of being "a side of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict”.

“Russia says that Turkey is a side in NK conflict. The actual side is Russia,” stated Erdogan, giving a speech to heads of village administrations in Ankara.

According to RIA Novosti, Turkish President also said that “Russia was a conflict side in Georgia and Ukraine, and now is a conflict side in Syria too”.

Mediamax reminds that answering the question on what role Turkey plays in escalation of situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on April 4 that Moscow doesn’t accuse external players in provoking a burst of tension in Karabakh.

“We don’t accuse Ankara, although we heard the unilateral statements of Turkish government, of course. It’s important for our Turkish neighbours to cease the policy of interference into internal matters of other states, be that Iraq or Syria. Turkey continues to support terrorism. The meeting addressed a range of domestic and foreign policy questions.
Special attention was paid to the large-scale combat operations launched by the enemy from on 1 to 4 April along the Karabagh-Azerbaijani borderline and their consequences.

President Sahakyan noted that during this ordeal the entire Armenian nation demonstrated exemplary unity and cohesion, highlighting the role of political forces in this process.

The servicemen killed in fighting in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic are buried almost secretly in Azerbaijan, Ali Karimli, leader of Azerbaijani Popular Front Party, wrote on his Facebook page.

According to the politician, there are many publications about funerals in social networks which are, as a rule, posted after the funeral ceremonies. The time and place of the funerals is not announced in advance. In his words, they are conducted under the control of special services. Only relatives, neighbors and military are allowed to attend the ceremonies, while strangers are not allowed to be present as the authorities fear mass gatherings.

During the funeral of a killed serviceman, special service officers beat up correspondent of Azadliq newspaper TazakhanMiralamliz for taking a photo of major Tabriz Mustafzade who was present at the ceremony. They tried to take away and break his camera. “As there has been no apology for this disgrace so far, it can be claimed that these actions are not just a mistake of some official, but a well thought-out policy,” Karimli stressed.

Three Armenian soldiers were killed by Azeris

STEPANAKERT—Despite a fragile cease-fire that was declared Tuesday by the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and Azerbaijan, three Armenian soldiers were killed, two in the region of Karvachar (formerly Kelbajar) on Tuesday night and one in the village of Talish in the Martakert district, according to reports by the Armenian and Artsakh defense ministries.

In Karvachar Tuesday night, Suren Aramyan and Grigor Avetisyan, both from Artashat and both 29, were killed from Azerbaijani fire. Amen Gasparyan, born in 1974, was killed on Wednesday when Azerbaijani forces fired mortars in Talish at around 6:30 p.m. local time.

On Wednesday, Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan revealed that the cease-fire agreement was reached in Moscow on Monday after chiefs of staff of Armenia and Azerbaijan met in Moscow.

The head of operations for the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Defense Army, Victor Arustamyan, told reporters Wednesday that since Friday’s attacks by Azerbaijan on Artsakh, 32 Armenian soldiers were killed and 121 were wounded, with 25 servicemen still missing in action.

He informed that the ceasefire violations continued all along the line of contact even after the parties agreed to halt all hostilities at midnight Monday. Col. Arustamyan said Azerbaijanis used mortars in the northern direction of the frontline. He also said an Azerbaijani tank hit an ambulance in the.

This morning separate groups tried to attack and conquer military positions in the north, but failed to succeed.

As for the reports that Azerbaijan is bringing its reserve troops to the frontline and preparing for a new attack, Arustamyan said “the reserves are stationed not far from the frontline and it’s hard to assess the plans of a new attack.”
