Aliyev says 'Armenian Lobby is Our Main Enemy'

BAKU—The “Armenian Lobby is our main enemy,” said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Saturday during a reception marking the 20th anniversary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (YAP).

“I have repeatedly said and I want to repeat it in the open that the Armenian lobby is our enemy. This is because Armenia, as a country, is of no importance. In fact, it is a colony, an outpost; a territory governed from abroad which was artificially created in ancient Azerbaijani lands,” said Aliyev who is also the chairman of YAP.

“The Armenian lobby is our main enemy and we are the main enemy for them. In fact, the source of our enmity with them is their enmity with us. Second is anti-Azerbaijani center, structures and circles infected with Islamophobia. Unfortunately, their number is growing all the time,” added Aliyev.

“The growth in their number was manifested during the elections held in some countries. The results of elections make the growth of the rating of Islamophobia forces clear. The young, dynamically developing, independent and modern Muslim country- Azerbaijan – has become a problem for them since it does not fit their stereotypes. Their stereotypes seek to show Muslims in the world as a backward nation and people,” said Aliyev.

AZERBAIJAN PRESIDENT LASHES OUT AT ARMENIA - ON TWITTER

Sergey Guneev

RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, November 20 (Dan Peleschuk, RIA Novosti) - Heads of state

across the world have long since embraced Twitter as a means for

communication with the masses.

But few, it seems, have taken to it as voraciously as Azerbaijani

President Ilham Aliyev, who used the social network on Tuesday

to unleash a barrage of disparaging tweets against Armenia, the

predominantly Islamic country's bitter rival.

"Armenia as a country is of no value," Aliyev tweeted from his official

handle, @presidentaz. "It is actually a colony, an outpost run from

abroad, a territory artificially created on ancient Azerbaijani lands."

He added that his country would "continue to expose Armenia's

aggressive policy in all international organizations."

The comments appeared at first to be aimed at domestic consumption.

The tweets were excerpts taken from a November 16 speech he gave at

a meeting of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, which was celebrating

its 20th anniversary, according to Aliyev's official website.

While Aliyev also hailed in the speech what he said was Azerbaijan's

positive development, his multitude of comments on Armenia were the

first to be broadcast over Twitter.

"I have often talked about it, I want to say it again without fearing

anyone - our enemy is the Armenian lobby," Aliyev added.

Armenia and Azerbaijan have been bitter enemies since the Russian

Civil War, in which inter-communal massacres by both sides took place

in Baku and elsewhere.

Their recent mutual enmity is rooted in a dispute over the breakaway

majority ethnic-Armenian republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, which declared

independence in 1992 but remains internationally recognized as part

of Azerbaijan.

The territory was the subject of a brutal war between the two countries

in the early 1990s that left more than 30,000 dead and drove out most

of the non-Armenian population. Both sides have regularly violated

the shaky 1994 ceasefire, with low-intensity border incidents and

sniper attacks now commonplace.

More recently, a military build-up in both Armenia and Azerbaijan

has led observers to fear another outbreak of large-scale violence

may be imminent.

"Azerbaijan grows stronger and more powerful by the year, while

Armenia weakens and declines every year," Aliyev claimed on Tuesday.

As international powers have unsuccessfully sought a solution to

the frozen conflict - particularly in the form of the Minsk Group,

organized by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe

(OSCE) - officials from both Armenia and Azerbaijan have continued

to trade barbs amid the heightened tension in recent months.

Recently, the Nagorno-Karabakh authorities threatened to re-open

an airport in the self-declared republic's capital of Stepanakert,

attracting sharp criticism from Azerbaijani officials.

Aliyev's latest tirade may reflect the worsening atmosphere.

"We will continue our efforts to isolate Armenia," Aliyev said, his

Twitter page adorned in a blue sunburst and emblazoned with the motto

"We turn initiatives into reality!"

"This policy is working," he added. "We see its results."

Aliyev's counterpart, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, does not

appear to have an official Twitter account.

Azerbaijan’s Consul in Los Angeles Needs to Learn How to Use a Laptop

http://asbarez.com/App/Asbarez/eng/2012/11/harurt2-300x297.jpg

Harut Sassounian

BY HARUT SASSOUNIAN

A funny thing happened to the Consul General of Azerbaijan on his way to make an audio-visual presentation at the Los Angeles World Affairs Council last week.

Consul General Nasimi Aghayev stepped up to the podium, turned on his fancy laptop, and proudly urged the audience to watch scenes of Azerbaijan on a large screen on the wall. To his horror, nothing but a frozen partial image appeared on the overhanging screen. The Consul’s aides and the World Affairs Council’s president rushed to the stage and began pushing all sorts of buttons on the laptop, as the guests waited impatiently. Mr. Aghayev not only was unable to showcase his native land, he could not even present his speech, because the text was locked up in his uncooperative laptop!

In desperation, the Azeri diplomat began speaking off the cuff, after pulling a piece of paper from his pocket on which he had scribbled some notes. This was the inauspicious start of an evening that was intended to show off Azerbaijan’s impressive advances and dazzle the audience with high-tech gadgets.

The Consul General appeared agitated throughout the lecture. Perhaps he was unaccustomed to speaking before such an august gathering or he was nervous because there were “representatives of the Armenian Diaspora in this room,” including myself and a handful of Armenians.

Mr. Aghayev talked at length about Armenia “occupying” a part of his country’s territory, a reference to the liberation of Artsakh (Karabagh). Calling this conflict “Azerbaijan’s top problem,” he expressed his chagrin that “one million Azeris today are refugees.” However, he failed to explain why a government with billions of dollars in oil revenue would allow such a large number of its citizens to live in abject poverty for over 20 years.

Imitating the Turkish regime, the Consul General made a serious gaffe by referring to the Armenian Genocide as a “so-called genocide.” Is it wise for Azeri officials to insult Armenians by denying the Genocide, at a time when they have their hands full with the Artsakh conflict? Why would Azerbaijan’s leaders want to complicate matters by associating themselves with Turkey’s denialism and further antagonize Armenians, making them less likely to sit with them at the peace table!

Mr. Aghayev’s remarks completely ignored the massive violation of the human rights of Azeri citizens, including those of ethnic minorities, as he falsely described Azerbaijan as a land of “religious and ethnic tolerance.” He went on to engage in gross historical revisionism by forgetting the massacres of Armenians in Sumgait and Baku and claiming that Armenians enjoyed their full freedom in Soviet Azerbaijan. He also described Muslim Azerbaijan as “one of the earliest nations to accept Christianity, in 313 AD!”

After several pre-arranged questions from some in the audience on how “tolerant” Azerbaijan is to “Mountain Jews” and the great relationship it enjoys with Israel, the World Affairs Council president cautiously avoided giving me the chance to pose a question. Fortunately, two other Armenians, Aroutin Hartounian, President of Unified Young Armenians and Garo Ghazarian, Chairman of the Armenian Bar Association, were granted the opportunity ask questions. The two Armenians raised the issue of Ramil Safarov, an axe-wielding Azeri soldier who killed a sleeping Armenian officer during a NATO training course in Hungary. After the Hungarian government released Safarov from prison prematurely and extradited him to Azerbaijan, Pres. Aliyev pardoned and glorified the axe-murderer! Foolishly contradicting his President, the Azeri Consul General stated that Azerbaijan “does not condone” Safarov’s crime!

Mr. Aghayev’s appearance before the World Affairs Council raises some troubling questions. Why did the Council take the unusual step of inviting a lowly Consul General to offer “a competing view” to the one presented by Armenia’s Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian, at the same venue, on September 24? One wonders what inducement Azerbaijan offered to the World Affairs Council to secure a presentation by a junior diplomat, possibly undermining the reputation of this prestigious organization!

Days later, when Mr. Aghayev’s lecture was posted on the Azeri Consulate’s website, the laptop glitches were carefully eliminated from the heavily edited video. The 48-minute speech and question and answer period had been reduced to 15 minutes!

The incident with the Consul General’s laptop is symptomatic of a much larger problem for Azerbaijan. The country’s leaders have spent billions of dollars to acquire a massive amount of advanced military hardware. But, if they don’t know which button to push, the sophisticated weaponry will be as useless as Mr. Aghayev’s laptop!

Rather than labeling the Armenian Diaspora as Azerbaijan’s “main enemy,” Pres. Aliyev should be more worried about his diplomats who cannot use a laptop! Incompetent officials are more of a liability for Azerbaijan than the Armenian “enemy”!

The big brother is irritated!

TURKISH PUBLIC SAYS ALIYEV THREATENS REGIONAL PEACE

November 21, 2012 - 16:45 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net - It's no secret that the concept "one nation with

two states" is meaningful only for Baku, the latter treating Ankara

as its big brother. Despite this, Turkey queens it over Azerbaijanis

and is unlikely to make any sacrifices.

Turkish citizens' reaction to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's

cynical statements on Armenia can be brought as a proof.

Aliyev earlier dubbed "Armenia a country of no value, a colony,

an outpost run from abroad." Moreover he called Armenia "territory

artificially created on ancient Azerbaijani lands." "Azerbaijan grows

stronger and more powerful with every passing year, while Armenia

weakens and declines every year," Azeri leader said.

Meanwhile, Turkish readers' reaction to Aliyev's remarks surprised

Baku.

"Not very statesmanlike behavior. His dad was a smart man, but Ilham

did not get any of his tact and diplomacy and he is dragging Turkey

down with him," a Hurriyet Daily News reader commented on Aliyev's

statement.

"This guy is nothing but a threat to the regional peace. Don't

forget that he is responsible for the failure of Armenian-Turkish

rapprochement," another comment reads.

Another Turkish reader posted the following comment, "With oil

declining 8% again this year in Azerbaijan, hysteria is the only way

Aliyev can maintain power. Most industry analysts agree that Azeri

oil output picked about 3 years ago and oil production will decline

every year. Yes, oil made lots of money for some Azeris, but most of

the regular population still lives in poverty. Not saying that Armenia

is paradise on earth, but regular Azeris have just as much problems

as Armenians do." Armenian National Assembly vice speaker Eduard

Sharmazanov dubbed Aliyev "totalitarian leader of a totalitarian

country." "Aliyev shows by his cynical remarks that there are still

supporters of fascism in the 21st century, and that this ideology

flourishes thanks to leaders like him," parliament vice speaker said,

adding that Aliyev's statement is reminiscent of the 1930s-1940s and

Nazi leader Adolf Hitler," he told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

TURKISH MP: 'RAFFI HOVANNISIAN'S BAKU STATEMENT RE: GENOCIDE IS SLANDER'

hetq

14:21, November 23, 2012

According to the Azeri Press Agency, Justice and Development Party MP

Ercan Candan took issue with Raffi Hovannisian's comments at the 7th

General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political

Parties now underway in Baku.

Hovannisian, leader of Armenia's Heritage Party, noted that the

term "occupation" shouldn't be used by Azerbaijanis and others when

referring to Nagorno-Karabakh.

The diaspora born Hovannisian argued that when it comes to the

concept of "occupation", Armenians have suffered to a far greater

degree and pointed to Turkey, implying the usurpation of western

Armenian territories.

APA reports that Candan described Armenian claims of genocide as a

"distortion" of history.

The Turkish MP noted that his country had faced occupation by four

European states early in the past century.

"Though Armenians and Turks had coexisted in Turkey by that time,

later they took advantage of the situation and went for separatism. At

that time we defeated the occupants. B ut we did not expel Armenians

from Turkey; they left Turkey of their own accord."

TURKISH PM CRITICIZES POPULAR TV SERIES "THE MAGNIFICENT CENTURY"

Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan harshly criticized Turkey's most

popular television drama series "The Magnificent Century," and

called upon the country's judiciary to investigate this program which

"insults Ottoman morals and manners."

Erdogan stated that he strongly criticizes the creators of this series

and the heads of the television company that airs this program.

"Even though we cautioned in this regard, everything still continues.

We are waiting for the decision of the judicial system. In reality, the

events that occurred in the [Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent's]

palace did not transpire the way they are portrayed in this TV series,"

Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, Milliyet daily of Turkey informs.

To note, aside from Turkey, "The Magnificent Century" is broadcast

in the Arab and Balkan countries, and, according to Turkish sources,

it has a TV following of close to 150 million.

ARMENIAN GOVERNMENT TO CONDUCT PROSPECTING ON OIL AND GAS EXTRACTION

APA

Azerbaijan

Haykakan Zhamanak: There is a complex in Armenian community due to

the advantage of Azerbaijan in the field of energy resources

Baku. Anakhanım Hidayatova - APA-Economics. Armenian government

made a decision to start prospecting for oil and gas extraction, APA

reports quoting the Armenian opposition newspaper Haykakan Zhamanak.

The newspaper writes that here the talk is about shale deposits: 'It

is impossible to speak about huge deposits of this natural resource.

But, the government that won a little oligarchy will go and not miss

the chance to appropriate the reserve'.

According to the author of the article Aram Amatuni, prospecting of oil

and gas deposits can be pre-election propaganda in Armenia: 'Attempts

to study oil and gas in Armenia are not new. Such attempts were made

during Soviet times, but did not meet expectations. In addition,

there is a complex in Armenian community due to the advantage of

Azerbaijan in the field of energy resources'.

Do they understand what they are saying? is it possible to use mine detectors as weapons? It is absurd no insane!!!!!!

US PRESENTS ARMENIA WITH MODERN MINE DETECTORS APA Nov 29 2012 Azerbaijan It is not known whether these detectors will be used for humanitarian or military purposes Baku. Rashad Suleymanov - APA. The US supplied the combat engineer units of the Defense Ministry of Armenia with mine detectors. APA reports quoting Armenian websites that the number of the mine detectors, presented by the US to the armed forces of this country, was not announced, but it is reported that they are RECON PRO model produced by "Garret" company. The detectors were given to Armenian Defense Ministry by Kansas Army National Guard. Previously, statements were issued on presenting Armenia with metal detectors produced by the German "Vallon" company to Armenia. For information, the United States banned the sale of military products to Armenia and Azerbaijan, referring to the current conflict. In this case, the equipment of the forces participated in international peacekeeping operations is an exception. The military equipment presented to the sappers of Armenian armed forces arises a question for what purposes these detectors will be used - humanitarian or military. Note that the United States provided assistance to Azerbaijan in mine clearing operations. These assistances were provided to the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) for humanitarian purposes, without taking part in any form in the military operations. The similar structure, established in Armenia in early 2000, halted its operations, because of failure.

TURKEY FINES "THE SIMPSONS" TV CHANNEL FOR "INSULTING RELIGIOUS VALUES"

December 3, 2012 - 19:56 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net - Turkey's broadcasting regulator is fining a

television channel for insulting religious values after it aired an

episode of "The Simpsons" which shows God taking orders from the devil,

Reuters said.

Radio and television watchdog RTUK said it was fining private

broadcaster CNBC-e 52,951 lira ($30,000) over the episode of the hit

U.S. animated TV series, whose scenes include the devil asking God

to make him a coffee.

"The board has decided to fine the channel over these matters,"

an RTUK spokeswoman said but declined further comment, saying full

details would probably be announced next week. CNBC-e said it would

comment once the fine was officially announced.

Turkey is a secular republic but most of its 75 million people are

Muslim. Religious conservatives and secular opponents vie for public

influence and critics of the government say it is trying to impose

Islamic values by stealth.

"The Simpsons" first aired in 1989 and is the longest-running U.S.

sitcom. It is broadcast in more than 100 countries and CNBC-e has

been airing it in Turkey for almost a decade.

"I wonder what the script writers will do when they hear that the jokes

on their show are taken seriously and trigger fines in a country called

Turkey," wrote Mehmet Yilmaz, a columnist for the Hurriyet newspaper.

"Maybe they will add an almond-moustached RTUK expert to the series,"

he said, evoking a popular Turkish stereotype of a pious government

supporter.

The Good, The Bad And The Shrewd

Hurriyet, Turkey

Dec 7 2012

Send to friend Â" Share on linkedinEleftherios Venizelos, the

illustrious statesman and former prime minister of Greece, once noted

that the well-being of small nations is guaranteed by, 1) Realism;

2) Avoidance of illusions of grandeur; and 3) Being consistent in

their alliances with powerful, even if selfish, allies.

Apparently, Venizelos' homeland wellness prescription is the

antithesis of neo-Ottoman Turkey a century later. And no doubt,

Turks love that antithesis. Betting and other means of gambling are a

Turkish pastime. I no longer hope to see crumbs of realism in Turkey's

foreign policy calculations, but I am still wondering whether crumbs

of consistency will remain the rare commodity forever.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his foreign policy czar,

Ahmet Davutoglu, should decide, for the sake of an elementary level

of consistency, whether the "world order" they praise and condemn at

the same time is good or bad.

For instance, the United Nations is good when its General Assembly

upgrades Palestine to non-member state status. But the U.N. Security

Council is bad when it does not do as Mr. Erdogan thinks it should

do about Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The U.N. is also bad when

it does not grant Palestine full member state status.

The old League of Nations was bad when it passed resolution after

resolution to condemn the Turkish occupation of Cyprus. It was so very

awful when it treats Hamas as a terrorist entity. But it was good when

its secretary-general did not even bother to reply to any of the 20

or so Israeli appeals this year to stop attacks on its citizens. It

was good when it deplored, condemned or strongly deplored Israel;

called on Israel to do this, took note of previous calls on Israel

or deeply regretted that Israel had done this or that.

The United States is good when it treats the Kurdistan Workers'

Party (PKK) as a terrorist entity. The U.S. is good when it allows

the Islamic headscarf on its campuses, or when Congress blocks a bill

recognizing the Armenian genocide. It is also good when it supports

a concerted move to topple Mr. al-Assad.

But it is bad when its president does not ban a video that insults

Islam, or because its president in fact believes what the Turks did to

the Armenians was genocide. The U.S. is also bad because it refuses to

bomb Damascus and treats Hamas like it treats the PKK. It is so very

bad when some American states allow gay marriages or when Washington

declares that Israel has a right to self-defense.

Just like Russia, which is good when tens of billions of dollars in

trade flow over the border with Turkey, but bad when it holds the

key to topple Mr. al-Assad and remains an ally with him.

Or like France, which is bad when its Parliament makes it illegal to

deny the Armenian genocide and is suddenly good when its Constitutional

Council scraps that bill. France is bad if run by Nicolas Sarkozy

and good if run by Francois Hollande. But France is good because

it has recognized the Syrian Opposition V.2 as the sole legitimate

representative of the Syrian people.

And NATO was good when it bombed Moammar Gadhafi's Libya. But it is

bad because it does not bomb al-Assad's Syria. It was bad because

it forced us to deploy a radar system on our soil to intercept

potential missiles from Iran. We agreed, but we will be angry if any

ally attempted to share any information collected by that radar with

Israel. All the same, NATO is so very good as it has agreed to deploy

the Patriot air defense system on our soil.

The West, in general, is bad because it allowed Israel to have its

nuclear weapons. It is also bad because it does not allow Muslim

Iran to have its own nuclear arsenal. It is especially bad because

thousands of Syrians are dying in a civil war. But it was not so bad

when hundreds of thousands of Iraqis were killed or forced to flee

their homeland under bombs and bullets.

You may not believe it, but all that is not the foreign policy doctrine

at the kindergarten in your neighborhood.

Aliyev Blames ‘Armenian Lobby’ for Fueling Oil Dispute

BATHING IN OIL: Patients in baths of Naphtalan in the Socar Clinic in Baku. Patients pay up to $300 for 20 days treatment with Naphthalan oil, a petrol based miracle cure (Photo by Sipa Press / Rex Features)

BY ARA KHACHATOURIAN

BAKU—Once again, Azeri President Ilham Aliyev has blamed the “Armenian Lobby” for its troubles. This time, according to the president, the “Armenian Lobby” is to be blamed for perpetuating a dispute between Baku and the British Petroleum, the largest investor in Azerbaijan’s oil industry.

Bloomberg reported that production at the BP-led Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli oilfield fell 12 percent in the first half of the year, prompting Aliyev to call on the London-based company to fix “grave mistakes.” BP has since replaced regional managers and brought in technicians to address “challenges” at the Caspian Sea field, which provided 78 percent of Azerbaijan’s total output in 2011.

On Wednesday, Azerbaijan and BP inked a new deal, which was hailed by Aliyev who said, “Starting from next year, our oil production will stabilize and sustainable oil production will continue for many years.”

Following his remarks about BP, Aliyev went on to point the finger at “external forces disliking Azerbaijan, the Armenian lobby, and, unfortunately, internal opposition, which is on the same side with them,” for blowing the dispute out of proportion.

“Let the Armenian lobby, external forces that dislike us and do not accept the successful development of Azerbaijan, not to be happy,” added Aliyev.

German magazine presents Turkey as Christian country

Well-known German magazine Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) while preparing

world religion map presented Turkey as a Christian country,

Turkish-based Armenian Agos newspaper reports.

The countries the majority of the population of which are Muslims,

have been presented in green color, those having mostly Christian

population in red, the others in other colors.

Turkey has appeared among the Christian countries being colored in red.

Nikhet Kirvan, chairman of the Turkish Council of Munich stated that

the mistake by such authoritative magazine is strange and upsetting.

The representatives of the magazine have already released a statement,

saying they have not noticed the mistake earlier and promised to

European Cows Can't Stand Poor

Living Conditions in Azerbaijan

By Harut Sassounian

Publisher, The California Courier

In keeping with the holiday spirit, my last column of the year is devoted

to a light-hearted topic!

In a story titled: "Imported Cattle no Bovine Boon for Azerbaijan," Seadet

Akifqizi of the Azerbaijani Service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty

(RFE/RL) reported that the government of Azerbaijan spent $23 million to

import "4,500 pedigree cows from Germany and Austria in an effort to

improve livestock quality and boost milk production." Each European cow was

expected to produce 40 liters (10.5 gallons) of milk a day compared to the

domestic Azeri cow that yielded only 9 liters (2.4 gallons), Akifqizi

wrote.

Unfortunately, the project was a failure and the invested funds were

wasted. Many of the high-class European cows could not survive the

miserable living conditions in Azerbaijan!

Baku officials blame farmers for "not caring properly for the imported

cows, which apparently require a certain degree of pampering." Azeri

agricultural analyst Vahid Maharramov explains that the cattle brought from

overseas "require high-quality feed and special hygiene."

Farmers, on the other hand, complain that they cannot afford to extend such

lavish care and attention to the foreign cows, because "it is not cost

effective and would lead to a steep increase in the price of milk."

Farmer Tarbiya Yusifova is unhappy that her major investment in imported

cows did not pay off: "The price of the milk we produce is expensive for

most customers because the hay we buy for the cattle is very expensive."

This is how the government's `lease a cow' program works: Farmers pay half

the price of the cows when leasing them from the state-controlled firm

Agrolizinq. The balance is to be paid in three years. Farmers must "have

their own sowing area and adhere to strict guidelines for their barns,"

Akifqizi explained. "The humidity and lighting needs to be just right, and

their diets and hygienic conditions should remind the European cattle of Qushchu

village, she learned that the farmer had to send most of his 30 pedigree

cows to relatives in the Baku area because he was unable to provide the

proper living conditions for them.

Akifqizi describes Hasanov's farm as "a squalid barn that looks like it

hasn't been cleaned for months. It is littered with manure, spiders climb

the walls, and flies buzz around the feed containers." Hasanov explained

that he "couldn't afford to upgrade his barns because in the countryside he

can't sell his milk" at a price that would cover his costs.

To make matters worse, farmers have to pay Agrolizinq the full amount of

the lease, even if the cows die prematurely. RFE/RL reports that "at least

260 of the imported cows have died since 2009, equal to around $1.3 million

in losses." It is not known how many of these cows committed suicide

because they could not stand living in such unbearable conditions!

The story takes a more serious turn when the RFE/RL reporter raises serious

questions about the price of the European cows and the identity of the

companies that imported them.

Agricultural analyst Maharramov notes that "the prices Azerbaijani farmers

are being asked to pay for the pedigree cows is significantly higher than

in other countries." RFE/RL revealed that "pedigree cattle imported from

Austria cost $5,000 per head, as opposed to around $3,000 in Turkey."

According to Agrolizinq, three little-known companies had won the tenders

to import European cows to Azerbaijan: Rista Alliance, Ninox Alliance, and

Swisspoint Merchants Limited, which was registered in New Zealand from 2009

until 2011. "The website of the New Zealand commercial registry says the

firm was directed by a Latvian citizen named Inta Bilder," RFE/RL

discovered. A search of the registry identified "Bilder as the director or

shareholder of hundreds of companies. Earlier this year, the Ukrainian

newspaper `Dzerkalo Tyzhnia' reported that one of those companies, Falcona

Systems, was linked to an alleged fraud worth more than $150 million

involving state-owned companies."

Maharramov is suspicious. He told RFE/RL: "Considering that the government

directs budget resources [to buy cattle from abroad] hastily and without

any preparation, you can suspect that there were some other intentions in

this."

Maharramov should be very cautious when talking about imported animals. In

2009, Azeri blogger Emin Milli was jailed for reporting that the government

of Azerbaijan had paid exorbitant prices for imported donkeys!

Since he felt neglected by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Ankara and the Azerbaijani Consulate General in Kars alike, Bayramli suspended his march and decided to return to Ankara. `I will protest the [Azerbaijani] ambassador and the [Azerbaijani] consul at the press conference I will hold in Ankara on [Friday,] December 28, and then I will continue my march from where I left it in Kars. I will cross from Kars into Georgia, and, from there, I want to go to Armenia, if they accept [me]. [but] If they would not let me enter Armenia, I will speak at the Georgia-Armenia border,' Kalender Bayramli stated.

Turk's march to Yerevan stopped because of Azerbaijanis' behavior

16:28, 27 December, 2012

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 27, ARMENPRESS. Kalender Bayramlı stopped his march

to Yerevan, which was organized on the occasion of the so-called

"Khojali genocide" representing a fabrication of the Azerbaijani state

policy. As reports "Armenpress" Turkish Radikal periodical stated

about this. After walking 100 km Kalender Bayramlı reached Kars and

expressed a wish to have a meeting with the Consul General of

Azerbaijan Ayhan Süleymanov. Notwithstanding the Consul General of

Azerbaijan refused to receive Kalender Bayramlı.

Kalender Bayramlı was greatly disappointed. He stated: "Probably my

march caused more inconveniences to the Azerbaijani embassy and

consulate, than to the Armenians. I was sad and angry to know that the

Azerbaijani consulate in Kars refused to have a meeting with me."

Among other things he underscored that it was the reason to stop his

march and go back to Ankara.

NEW AZERBAIJANI PR: ATTEMPT TO CORRUPT ARTSAKH CITIZENS

news.am

January 09, 2013 | 02:09

YEREVAN. - Azerbaijan still hopes to raise the image of the country

and improve at least some part of it by realizing a new PR project,

the motto of which may fully be called as follows, "Artsakh residents

are you ready to be corrupted?"

The idea is a chance of returning the Soviet bank savings to those

citizens of Arstakh of the Armenian nationality, who will turn to

Azerbaijan for being issued an Azerbaijani citizenship.

"The citizens of Azerbaijan of the Armenian nationality, who live

in the territories of our country [note that Azerbaijan refuses to

recognize the independence of Artsakh] have also the right to submit

the documents on receiving back their investments made in the Soviet

period in the banks. They are to confirm their nationality through

a notary of other or our country. They may receive the compensation

in the banks of either Azerbaijan or other countries," an Azeri MP

told Ekho.

WHO IN BAKU NEEDS GREAT KARABAKH WALL?

Karine Ter-Sahakian

PanARMENIAN.Net

January 11, 2013

Construction of the 3-meter-high wall was launched in 2011 and mostly

aimed to protect the front-line villages.

Construction of a wall between the conflicting states has become, so

to say, trendy during the past few years. Israel built a wall at the

Egyptian border, Cypriote Greeks isolated themselves from the Northern

Cyprus, and the U.S. is going to fence off Mexico. Baku decided to join

the "trend" by building a wall between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan.

PanARMENIAN.Net - Construction of the 3-meter-high wall was launched

in 2011 and mostly aimed to protect the front-line villages.

Azerbaijani media already labeled the project the "Great Karabakh

Wall", failing, however, to provide a reasonable explanation of its

purpose. The Azerbaijani Agency for Rehabilitation and Reconstruction

of Areas has undertaken the initiative which is preliminary estimated

to cost around 300 mln euros. The lion's share of the allotted funds

will probably be pocketed; so, what's the purpose of this wall?

According to Azerbaijani observers, the construction of the wall

contradicts the statements of the Azerbaijani government that speaks

of prompt "liberation" of Karabakh. They also claim that the Armenian

politicians and media present the construction project as Azerbaijan's

reconciliation with the loss of Karabakh. Well, a different opinion

would have been strange in Armenia. However, Ilham Aliyev needs to

construct the wall, both for self-assertion and to demonstrate his

care for his people, namely the population of the frontier regions

"suffering" from shootings. Such logic implies that a wall built by

Armenia would appear more reasonable: the snipers are killing the

Armenians, and not Azerbaijanis. Still, a wall is necessary for safety

reasons; in addition, it is needed to prevent cases of desertion. In

a word, this is going to be sort of a Great Chinese Berlin Wall.

Actually, Aliyev is keen on gigantomania; he built a huge palace for

Heydar Aliyev Foundation which later burned down, then he constructed

a tower to rival BurjDubai, not to mention the giant flag which

has fallen and torn so many times that even Baku media have stopped

mentioning it at all. In addition, there are numerous monuments to

Heydar Aliyev worldwide, and now comes the wall...

Well, if we take the matter seriously, the construction of the fence is

first of all a fortification facility which can house sniper loopholes,

radars and lots of other tools to track the enemy, including air

defense. The latter is hardly feasible, but still, who knows? No wonder

the information on the wall construction was publicized just now as the

preparations for flights from Stepanakert airport are in full swing.

The thing is not whether the wall will be constructed or not;

Azerbaijan will hold presidential elections in fall, with Ilham Aliyev

winning the race. The information on this project is most likely a

well-thought move for launching the election campaign. Aliyev will

indeed win the vote, but he needs to provide sort of a show for the

West so that the outcome of elections - approximately 70-75% of votes-

is acceptable. Such unpopular moves will help Ilham Aliyev; they can't

but help since too much is put at stake. If suddenly he shares the fate

of Mikheil Saakashvili, he'll have hard times handling the situation;

Georgia was a "beacon of democracy" for the West, and this is not the

case with Aliyev at all. Meanwhile, the wall will be soon forgotten

since nobody except for Azerbaijani leader really needs it.

Who knew? Armenian Lobby had this much power!

Brussels Think-Tank: Armenian lobby plays major role in enmity in Armenian-Azerbaijani relations

Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 21 /Trend E.Tariverdiyeva/

The Armenian diaspora and their lobbying efforts worldwide have successfully protected Armenia's interests in the international arena to the detriment of Azerbaijan, concludes a report issued by the Brussels-based think tank European Strategic Intelligence and Security Center (ESISC).

The Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act (a U.S. law that bans Azerbaijan from U.S. aid) and the campaigns against the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and the Southern Gas Corridor meant to reduce Europe's dependence on energy supplies from Russia, are only some of the most evident examples, say analysts at the ESISC, PR Newswire reported.

Propaganda campaigns have been carried out in order to depict Azerbaijan as a pariah state in Europe, while at the same time promoting the image of Armenia as a well consolidated democracy.

"Armenia has been using pressure groups in order to influence the political agenda in the USA and Europe toward Yerevan's interests," the report declares.

"Isolating Baku from international assistance and depicting it as a rogue state are some of the activities carried out by Armenian lobbies worldwide," the report says.

According to the report, since its independence, Baku has had to struggle for its territorial integrity, against poverty and the risk of domestic terrorism. In this regard, the Armenian lobby has contributed to isolate the country from international assistance, hence slowing down the process for the building of a stronger civil society and a more democratic form of government.

"Armenia occupies around 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territories such as Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts as a result of an armed aggression by separatist Armenian paramilitary groups in the aftermath of the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s."

However, Baku has turned out successful in coping with other contingences such as poverty and terrorism, says the report. In fact, according to the World Bank, Azerbaijan has been able to reduce poverty from 50 percent to 7.6 percent in the period 2001-2011, with a drop in unemployment to 4.2 percent and the implementation of social welfare reforms contributing to such decline.

What an idiot!!!!!!

TOP AZERBAIJANI RULING PARTY OFFICIAL: WE ASSASSINATE ONLY OUR IMPORTANT OPPONENTS http://azerireport.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3841&Itemid=42 BAKU. January 23, 2013. "Who is he, to be assassinated by us? He does not have such an important statue...". This is what deputy secretary of Azerbaijan's ruling YAP party and one of the leading members of national parliament Siyavush Novruzov said about one of the critics of the Aliyev regime in his interview to APA news service yesterday. He was responding to the allegations of former president of Federal National-Cultural Autonomy of Azerbaijanis in Russia "AzerRos", Soyun Sadigov, who stated that the Azerbaijani authorities intend to assassinate him. Mr. Sadigov has recently resigned from his post as the leader of "AzerRos", so that he can concentrate on political activities. He then directed sharp criticism at Azerbaijan's ruling Aliyev regime and its policies. Interestingly enough, the pro-government APA news portal removed Siyavush Novruzov's interview from its website shortly after posting it, perhaps after the higher-ups in the Aliyev regime realized the damaging nature of Mr. Novruzov's statement. The original link to APA's Azerbaijani language news story on the interview now simply times-out. However, another news portal FoxNews.az still had the story listed later in the day. It is not clear whether Mr. Novruzov's comments about Soyun Sadigov's qualifications for an assassination were a rare burst of honesty on the part of the Azerbaijani government, a simple gaffe, or a calculated threat against Mr. Sadigov. Aliyev regime of Azerbaijan had been frequently accused by rights groups in being responsible for the murders of journalists, political opponents, key witnesses in high-profile cases and the deaths of dissidents in police detention. Muslims launch a “Star War” against Lego

The Turkish community has accused Lego of racism over a Star Wars toy allegedly depicting the Hagia Sophia mosque in Istanbul, one of the world's most renowned mosques, calling for official apologies from the toy manufacturer.

The Turkish community members claim that the Jabba’s Palace toy, with its domed roof, takes its design from Istanbul’s famous mosque and the Jami al-Kabir mosque in Beirut, and that the separate watchtower resembles a minaret. Moreover, the slug-like toy creatures are associated with terrorism, slavery, murder and human sacrifice.

The statement posted on the organization’s official website refers to Jabba the Hutt as a “terrorist” who “likes to smoke hookah and have his victims killed”. Moreover, as many of the Lego figures carry weapons, the Turkish organization also urged parents “not to buy toys of war or toys of discrimination” as the model goes against the “peaceful coexistence of different cultures in Europe” and cannot be appropriate “for children between 9 and 14 years old”.

Dr. Melissa Günes, General Secretary of the Turkish Cultural Community, sent an official complaint calling for an apology from Lego for its cultural insensitivity. She added that the organization is planning legal actions in Austria, Germany and Turkey against Lego if the community doesn’t get a satisfactory response.

In its turn, Lego insists that this Star Wars toy “does not reflect any actually existing buildings, people, or the mentioned mosque” and are based on characters from the movie.

“We regret that the product has caused the members of the Turkish cultural community to come to a wrong interpretation, but point out that when designing the product, only the fictional content of the Star Wars saga were referred to”, said Katharina Sasse, Lego's spokesperson.

The Hagia Sofia, a converted Christian basilica famed for its massive domed roof, is one of the most famous mosques in the world and served Istanbul’s Muslim community for over 500 years before becoming a museum in 1943. It is also regarded as one of the finest, and largest examples, of Byzantine architecture.

:silly: Braying Burro :goof:

Braying donkey used as getaway car by dumbass thieves

Donkeys don’t make good getaway cars. Just ask the three Colombians whose Laurel and Hardy-style burglary plan included speeding off on an elderly ass (not the animal shown above). The trio had slipped through the roof of a shop in the Caribbean town of Juan de Acosta, pilfered a buffet's worth of rum, sardines, rice and other victuals and carefully loaded it onto 10-year-old Xavi the donkey. Perhaps annoyed at being awake at 2 a.m. (or maybe because he missed his owner, from whom he'd been stolen the day before), Xavi began braying. The thieves took off when the cops showed up, abandoning the loot-laden creature. All the swag was returned — including the noisy donkey.
