Armenian policemen asked their chief to allow them to punish citizens

who laugh at police

news.am

March 17, 2012 | 17:04

YEREVAN. - Armenian News-NEWS.am received an open letter by `A group

of policemen on duty in the Yerevan city Mashtots Park' addressed to

the Chief of Armenia's Police Vladimir Gasparyan.

`Mr. Gasparyan, taking into account your position on the role and the

status of the policeman in the society, we want to invite your

attention on the attitude of certain environmental activists in the

Mashtots Park in Yerevan downtown towards the policemen.

There are numerous videos uploaded on YouTube testifying that the

policeman is neglected and even mocked. We understand very well that

there are special people among the activists who intentionally play on

our nerves. Some people do not mock us directly but scold by making us

appear into funny and inconvenient situation, violating our dignity.

In a relevant case when there is no direct insult but there does exist

mock and disregard, what a policeman can do to overturn such an

attitude?

We do not support rude methods and have no intentions to apply force

towards our citizens, however, the society should understand that we,

as law enforcers, have no right to be in such situation. Otherwise,

what steps should be taken against those who abuse the policeman,' the

letter reads.

IF TUVALU RECOGNIZES KARABAKH'S INDEPENDENCE, WILL TURKEY ASK TUVALU TO RETURN FOOTBALLS?

news.am

March 26, 2012 | 14:48

Turkish Hurriyet daily's journalist Ugur Ergan had written that

Armenia recently established diplomatic relations with Tuvalu to

persuade the latter to recognize Karabakh's independence in return

for some measures. And Hurriyet's columnist Yilmaz Ozdil and Radikal

daily's reporter Deniz Zeyrek reflected on this information.

In his column, Yilmaz Ozdil recalled that the aforesaid information

noted that Tuvalu does everything for a 'gift." For example, in return

for the amount provided by Russia last year, this country recognized

Abkhazia and South Ossetia. And in this regard Ozdil noted that Turkey

was the first country to present a "gift" to Tuvalu in return for

something, and the other countries learned from Turkey to do the same.

Deniz Zeyrek likewise recalled that Turkey, in its campaign to become

a UN Security Council temporary member, had started close diplomatic

contacts with Tuvalu. And "Turkey became generous in terms of

constructing public buildings [in] and sending footballs [to Tuvalu]."

And how will Ankara-which manifested a generous attitude to buy the

[uN] vote of Tuvalu-react if Tuvalu recognizes Nagorno-Karabakh in

return for money? Will Ankara ask for its footballs back from Tuvalu?",

Radikal's reporter asks.

Armenia to import pedigree heifer, animal vaccine from Israel

April 16, 2012 | 16:04

YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan on Monday received an Israeli delegation, led by the Knesset (parliament) member and Agriculture Minister Orit Noket, which is in Armenia on a two-day visit.

Karapetyan briefly presented the Armenian Agriculture Ministry’s current description and indicators, and noted that agriculture had started to intensively grow in Armenia solely in the recent years. He stated that the country needs to implement especially Israel’s track-record in this domain, the Ministry informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Also, the Minister expressed a hope that Armenia’s agricultural cooperation with Israel will further expand.

Reflecting on the new agricultural partnership prospects, Sergo Karapetyan underscored the importing of pedigree heifer and animal vaccine from Israel.

“[but] Cooperation must be bilateral. I believe we, too, have domains that interest you, such as exporting Armenian fruits and vegetables, processed agricultural products, [and] brandy and wine,” the Minister noted.

In her turn, Orit Noket invited her Armenian colleague on an official visit to Israel in May, during which a large agricultural fair is scheduled to be held.

“The two countries’ agricultural cooperation agreement is prepared, and I am hopeful we will ratify this important document in those days,” she said.

Also, the parties reached arrangement on the anticipated cooperation directions and the working groups for designing the programs.

Afterwards, the Israeli delegation visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial and laid a wreath in memory of the Genocide victims, paid a visit to the Yerevan Brandy Factory, and toured Yerevan’s Matenadaran (Armenian ancient manuscript museum).

ALIYEV BLAMES 'ARMENIAN LOBBY' FOR INTERNATIONAL CRITICISM

http://www.azatutyun.am/content/article/24551589.html

17.04.2012

Azerbaijan - President Ilham Aliyev chairs a cabinet meeting in Baku,

16 Apr 2012.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has described the worldwide

"Armenian lobby" as his nation's number one enemy and seemingly blamed

it for international criticism of Baku's human rights record.

"The Armenian lobby is the driving force of negative information about

us," he said during a cabinet meeting held on Monday and reported by

Azerbaijani news agencies the following day.

"An information war is waged against us ... The Armenian lobby is

especially active in that information war. Attempts to badmouth

Azerbaijan, to deny Azerbaijan's realities, to present Azerbaijan to

the outside world as a backward and undemocratic country primarily

result from dirty deeds of the Armenian lobby," Aliyev said in remarks

cited by the official Azertag news agency.

"The scope of their influence is quite broad. They [Armenians] are

represented in the leading print media outlets of various countries.

Sometimes they go under different names and hide their ethnic origin,"

added Aliyev.

The Azerbaijani government's human rights record is under growing

international scrutiny ahead of the Eurovision song contest that will

he held in Baku next month. In recent reports cited by Western media,

Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch strongly criticized

the government for breaking up opposition protests, jailing their

participants and suppressing broader dissent. There have even been

calls in the European Parliament and from human rights activists and

Azerbaijani bloggers for an international boycott of the contest.

Armenia withdrew from the annual show last month. It attributed the

boycott to Aliyev's March 1 remark that "Armenians of the world"

are Azerbaijan's main enemy.

The Azerbaijani leader made a similar, albeit more carefully worded,

statement on Monday. "For us, the number one enemy is the Armenian

lobby," he said. "We must be prepared to fight against it."

Joe Biden to Turkish and Azerbaijani communities: ‘you all look dull as hell’

American newspapers are flooded with Vice President Joe Biden’s quotes at sleepy audience of donors Friday when he jokingly berated them for being "dull as hell."

"I guess what I’m trying to say without boring you too long at breakfast –- and you all look dull as hell, I might add," he told a crowd of more than 200 fundraisers from the Turkish and Azerbaijani communities in Washington DC. "The dullest audience I have ever spoken to. Just sitting there, staring at me. Pretend you like me!”

At the end of his remarks -- which included specifics about America's relationship with Azerbaijan and Turkey, "one of our most valuable and proudest allies" -- Biden wrapped up with the explanation that he was "boring you as much as I’m boring myself."

It's not the first time that the affable veep has kidded a less-than-excited bunch of donors with some light-hearted jabs at their lack of attentiveness to his remarks.

Trend, Azerbaijan

May 27 2012

Azerbaijan's permanent representative to UN sends letter to Secretary General

Azerbaijan, Baku, May 27 / Trend /

Azerbaijan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations sent a

letter to UN Secretary General, expressing the protest in connection

with Armenia's military parade in the Azerbaijani occupied town of

Khankendi.

"On May 9, 2012 the Armenian leadership has made another provocative

action by conducting a military parade in the town of Khankendi,

located in the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan," the

letter said. "Officially declared cause of holding parade, the

presence of Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan and demonstration of

weapons deserve special attention in the context of this outrageous

act."

"According to the Armenian official sources, the parade was held on

the occasion of the sixty-seventh anniversary of the end of the Second

World War and the twentieth anniversary of the Armenian armed forces'

occupation of Shusha - Azerbaijani historical and cultural center in

Nagorno-Karabakh," the letter said. "Taking into account the Armenian

policy of aggression, ethnic cleansing and annexation, celebrating

these two dates by the leadership of the country is contrary to

elementary logic. It demonstrates blatant disrespect for the memory of

millions of people who gave their lives for freedom from tyranny and

slavery during the Second World War, the letter said.

The Armenian President's visit to the Azerbaijani occupied territories

and his presence at a military parade and demonstration of the most

modern weapons during the parade destroys the myth that Armenia's

actions have nothing to do with the occupation of Azerbaijani

territories, Mehdiyev wrote.

"Holding the parade filled up a list of evidence of Armenia's direct

military aggression against Azerbaijan and the establishment of its

actual military and political control over its occupied territories,"

the letter said. "In fact, this parade has shown that Armenia

continues increasing its military presence in these areas and deploys

a large quantity of arms and ammunition beyond international control.

If this is not so, the Armenian leadership must explain how the

demonstrated types of weapons, including unmanned spy lethal vehicles,

which were made in Armenia and were first publicly demonstrated at a

military parade in Armenia on September 21, 2011, appeared in the

Azerbaijani occupied territories."

"The Republic of Azerbaijan declares the strongest protest against

Armenia's warlike gesture, and irresponsible rhetoric of its

leadership," the letter said. "Such provocations as a military parade

in the Azerbaijani occupied territories and the celebration of the

occupying forces and the puppet armed gangs that are responsible for

the heinous crimes committed against the Azerbaijani civilians during

the war, are contrary to Armenia's obligations on international law,

and within the ongoing process of the conflict settlement."

All the above-mentioned confirms that the Armenian policy still poses

a serious threat to regional and international peace, security and

stability and requires attention and response from the United Nations

and the international community as a whole, the letter said.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988

when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian

armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992,

including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The

co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France and the U.S. - are

currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four

resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the

surrounding regions.

DNA Study Busts Myth that One Million Appalachians are of Turkish Descent

For decades, Turkish pseudo-historians and propagandists have made bizarre claims about Turks being the ancestors of various ethnic groups around the world, including Native Americans, African-Americans, and the strangest of all -- Melungeons -- a little-known group of dark-skinned residents of Appalachia.

To counter Armenian political activities in Washington, the Turkish government regularly reaches out to anyone who could be co-opted with all-expense paid trips, special gifts, and other financial inducements, including funding studies and conferences on the alleged Turkish origin of Melungeons. Even though these one million Appalachians do not carry much political clout in Congress, Ankara is interested in claiming them to be of Turkish descent, hoping to strengthen its political and economic clout in the United States.

The Turkish initiative faced one ‘minor’ problem: there was no evidence that Melungeons were descendants of Turks. This issue was easily resolved when the Turkish government provided a “research grant” to a Melungeon named N. Brent Kennedy. In April 1995, he flew to Istanbul and wrote a book alleging that hundreds of captured Ottoman sailors were dumped on the shores of North Carolina by Sir Francis Drake in the 16th century!

Kennedy compiled a long list of “amazing” similarities between Turks and Melungeons, such as eating beef and mashed potatoes, the habit of hugging each other, Appalachian quilts having Ottoman designs, Anatolian folk dancers performing square dance, and Turkish music sounding like bluegrass! He discovered that the Turkish word “neyaygara” sounds like Niagara, “dilhah yer” is pronounced Delaware, “tenasuh” means Tennessee, “kan tok” is Kentucky, and “allah bamya” is Alabama!

Kennedy further stated that Turkish scholars have “long believed that a connection existed between themselves and eastern seaboard American Indians, based on both physical appearance and shared words and customs.” He gathered these “important facts” from Turkish “historians” during his meetings at Marmara University in Istanbul. “Several hundred Ottoman sailors could exert a powerful genetic, cultural, and linguistic influence on the sixteenth-century Native American Tribes into which they married,” Kennedy confidently concluded.

Appalachians, however, were infuriated by the distortion of Melungeons’ ethnic origin and exploitation of their history. Historian and award-winning journalist Tim Hashaw of Houston, Texas, sent a letter asking me to “investigate the tawdry connection between the ATAA (Assembly of Turkish American Associations) and the Melungeon Heritage Association.” Hashaw asserted that “Melungeons are an obscure tri-racial (white, black, and American Indian) community in Appalachia -- Virginia and Tennessee. We are not now, nor have we ever been, Turkish. Yet, Melungeons are being wrongly exploited by Turkish associations to deny the Armenian Genocide and to support questionable Turkish agendas in Washington DC.”

Hashaw revealed in his letter that Turkey “sent gifts such as water fountains (cesme) to those who deny the Armenian Genocide. They have said in the press that they expect our support in Washington DC. I kept asking myself: why is the very influential Turkic World Research Foundation bothering to pay for airfare to send waves of humble Appalachian hill folk from the US to Turkey? We are not a large or affluent people. Why do the President and Prime Minister of Turkey give personal interviews to Melungeons from Appalachia when they visit? Why are the ATAA and the Istanbul Alumni group paying to send Melungeons to New York in order to honor them in recognition for their services to Turkey?”

Hashaw’s published works regarding the ethnic origins of the Melungeons were validated by a new DNA study published in the Journal of Genetic Genealogy which disproved the “wild claims” that Melungeons are descendants of Turkish slaves. Instead, the research indicated that they were the offspring of “sub-Saharan African men and white women of northern or central European origin.” Shortly after release of this study, the red-faced leader of a Turkish-American group gave his followers the bad news: “Appalachia’s Melungeons are not Turks”!

Despite the incontestable DNA evidence, incorrigible Turkish propagandists may not be deterred by scientific studies. They will continue to claim that just about everyone on Planet Earth somehow originated from Turks! As Tim Hashaw mockingly wrote:

“Abraham Lincoln was a Turk! Elvis Presley was a Turk! American Indians are Turks! Obama's mama was a Turk! Melungeons were born in the country of the Hatfields and McCoys. The blood feud is in our DNA. The Turks do not know yet, but they will regret bribing greedy ignorant people to deny the Armenian Genocide.”

Erdogan invented regular lie: Olympic Flame has Turkish roots

16:20, 4 August, 2012

YEREVAN, AUGUST 4, ARMENPRESS: Turkey has made regular attempts to

distort history: again discrediting itself in the international

community eye. And when Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan

met with the IOC President Jacques Rogge in London recently he made it

clear that Turkey wants the flame back.

As Armenpress reports, Turkey's Minister for Youth and Sport Suat

Kilic spoke of his Prime Minister's meeting with the Olympic chief .

Olympic Flame traditionally burns from ancient Greek Olympia

settlement .Turkish journalist in his turn misleading the journalists

stated, torchlight roots go back to Turkey.

In the words of Suat Kilic Erdogan's request is `so honest and very

friendly' and "If I had been in Mr Rogge's chair I would have been

very impressed."

When asked about Rogge's reaction Kilic said the IOC President `was

very professional and didn't really give us any clue.'

"But Mr Erdogan made the point that Istanbul is the only city where

you can stage the Olympics on two continents.

BAGIS REMINDS FRANCE OF ITS NATIONAL MOTTO

Turkey

Turkey does not know what genocide is, says EU Minister Egemen Baðýþ.

Turkey's European Union Minister Egemen Baðýþ has strongly criticized

the introduction of the alleged Armenian genocide to French history

textbooks.

Baðýþ called on the French, who take great pride in their state founded

on the worthy precepts of "liberte, egalite, et fraternite" (liberty,

equality and fraternity), to reexamine their understanding of their

own national motto. "I hope they will soon realize this mistake and

correct it," he said, while delivering a speech at a meeting arranged

by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TÝKA).

"Turkey does not know what genocide is. Turkey knows the phrase

'peace at home, peace in the world,' as the founder of our republic,

[Mustafa Kemal] Ataturk said. We try to provide peace all around the

world; we try to give love," Baðýþ said.

:lol2:

"There was no colonial system in the places where we had been before,"

he said, in an apparent reference to France's colonial past. "There

had always been prosperity and tolerance the places that we went.

Instead of putting these absurd things in the textbooks, they should

examine their understanding of 'liberte, egalite, and fraternite.' We

recommend that the OSCE [the Organization for Security and Cooperation

in Europe] end the tension between Azerbaijan and Armenia. We hope

they [can stop focusing on] elections and focus on issues affecting

future generations as soon as possible. We hope that Turkey will be

a means for the European Union to get out of the mental abyss it has

fallen into."
