Not exactly a typical Christmas story. Maybe in reverse?

Robber rob robber. :P

How the Grinch Stole Christmas! is a children's story by Dr. Seuss written in rhymed verse with illustrations by the author. It was published as a book by Random House in 1957, and at approximately the same time in an issue of Redbook.[1] Critics argue that the book criticizes the commercialization of Christmas and satirizes those who profit from exploiting the holiday.

Two accused shoplifters got a taste of their own medicine when they sought to clear out of the crime--and found that a passing malefactor had broken into their own car.

Security personnel were in the process of questioning Korin Vanhouten, 47, and Eldon Alexander, 36, at an Ogden, Utah WinCo supermarket, accused of stealing makeup, energy bars and batteries. At the end of the interrogation, they left with a citation for attempted shoplifting.

However, they soon stumbled on to the scene of a successful carlifting, with the awkward discovery that while they were in the WinCo, someone--or several someones--had broken into their car.

And as it turned out, the ironies were just starting to multiply. For Vanhouten and Alexander proceeded to report the ransacking of their vehicle to the same officer who had issued them their shoplifting citation.

In the process of leaving the WinCo lot, the officer came upon "the two suspects trying to flag him down in the parking lot," as Ogden Police Lt. Eric Young characterized the surreal moment for the Deseret News. "And he goes over to their location and realizes that their vehicle has actually been burglarized. They ended up having their stereo and amplifier, a drum machine and some cigarettes stolen from their vehicle," Young said.

The car break-in reportedly happened while the police officer's car was parked nearby.

Turkey recalls Ambassador from Paris

Ankara has begun to implement measures after the French National Assembly passed the Armenian Genocide bill today.

Turkey has recalled its Ambassador Tahsin Burcuoglu from Paris for consultations for an indefinite period of time, Turkish daily Sabah reported.

We will remind that Turkey had lately threatened to recall its Ambassador from Paris if the French National Assembly approves the bill criminalizing the denial of Armenian Genocide.

What is his name? :censored: am-basturma?

And when that ambasturma do when gets back to ankaga?

Turkish Nationalist Movement Party MP, former chairperson of the Turkish Historical Society Usuf Halacoglu again tried to refute the historical fact of the Armenian Genocide during a TV program on a Turkish TV channel. He announced that there are still over 20 Armenian clans in Turkey which have changed their identity.

The historian, who is famous for his ridiculous attempts of denying the Armenian Genocide, announced during a live show that there are still over 20 Armenian clans living in Turkey which have changed their identity and represent themselves as Kurds.

Halacoglu presented a list on which apparently the names of the representatives of Armenian races, the villages where they live and the Kurdish names they use are listed. He stated several names including Mamikonyan** and Rshtouni.

What an idiot! He is fit to be tied. :silly:

WHAT A BLITHERING IDIOT!!!

He excels even our own house historian-schmistorians.

He does not even know that the Mamkonyans are Chinese and the Rshtounis are either Arabs or hryas, just like the Bagratunis. :goof: . He should ask our house “historians” , aka village idiots about the matter. :jester:

Does he mean that as long as there is EVEN ONE Armenian left in furkey or anywhere else, be they covet or overt, then it was not a genocide?

** How bout all the Armenians with family names like “halajian” or “kurdoghluian“? Search and see.

BTW. The headline of the above News-AM article reads-

Armenian clans became Kurdish and leave in Turkey

Was it meant to be "live"? I doubt if it was meant to be "leave/left/remain". Did someone type" leev" to mean "live" and that stupid spellcheck corrected it to "leave"?

What Santa Brought Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia

By Giorgi Lomsadze

Euresianet.org

It’s gift-opening time here in the hung-over South Caucasus, and early reports indicate that Santa Claus left more sweets than switches in the stockings of all three of the region’s countries.

Armenia’s present came, of course, from France. Le Père Noël brought preliminary passage of a bill that bans the denial of Ottoman Turkey’s 1915 massacre of ethnic Armenians as genocide. If the upper chamber of the French parliament approves the bill, France will become the first major country to pass such a law — an event eagerly awaited in Armenia, where memories of the 1915 massacre run strong and bitter.

Turkey, now barely on speaking terms with France, says that the massacre was — to paraphrase a Russian saying — too long ago to be true.

Azerbaijan, Ankara’s longtime pal, shares Turkey’s anger over this pro-Armenia move, but it also has reasons to celebrate. On December 26, it signed an agreement with Turkey on a $5 billion pipeline that will bring Azerbaijani gas to eager European customers, and even more cash to its cash-rich coffers.

But Santa also brought Baku the chance to show some policy panache with its energy pedigree. In 2012, Azerbaijan wakes up in the city that never sleeps as the new, non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, an historic first in the country’s short history as an independent republic. Its New York run kicks off on January 4, when the Council settles down to talk sanctions against Iran and the turmoil in Syria, among other topics.

And Georgia also found a little something when it reached into its stocking. What can it be? Membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization? News that Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin was kidnapped by aliens? No, it’s a US defense weapon.

On December 31, President Barack Obama signed a bill that allows the sale of much-wanted American weapons to Georgia. It is not yet clear what kind of toys Georgia can buy with this gift card, and Obama may have included a disclaimer “for defensive purposes only,” but, for Tbilisi, it’s the thought that counts.

2012 is shaping up as an interesting year, but, for now, longtime observers refrain from predicting whether the region’s threesome will be naughty or nice.

CAMEL DROPPINGS and CAMEL JOCKEYS

http://www.armenianweekly.com/2012/01/06/a-story-about-the-magi-in-armenia/

As we prepare to celebrate the Feast of the Nativity and Revelation of Jesus Christ on Jan. 6, I thought you might be interested in an important part of history that involves the Magi who followed the Star to Bethlehem, and then traveled to Armenia.

As Matthew 2:12 confirms, the Magi decided to return to their homeland via a different way. According to the Gontag, the Magi struck northward from Bethlehem and arrived on a plain outside the ancient city of Moush.

In Matthew 2:1–12, we read that when Jesus Christ was born during the days of Herod, Magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem. They told Herod that they had seen the Star, and had followed it with the hope of finding the one who was to be born as the new King. The Jewish scribes confirmed that the Prophet Micah foresaw that the new King would be born in Bethlehem, and so the Magi set out from Jerusalem, following the Star. The Star led them to the place where the newborn Child was, and the Magi entered into the place, and found the Child with His mother, Mary. The Magi bowed down to the earth in adoration, and then, opening their gifts, presented gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And then, having been warned in a dream not to travel back through Jerusalem and encountering Herod there, the Magi returned to their homeland using a different way.

The Gospel account contains many beautiful facts, but alas, does not provide certain crucial information. We do not know how many Magi there were. Supposition indicates that each Magus presented one of the three gifts, and therefore, there may have been three, but we do not know for certain. Nor do we know the exact location of their ancestral homeland “in the East.” Because the word “magus” may be interpreted as “astronomer” or “astrologer” (from the root “M-G” meaning “star”), many suppose that they originated in either Babylon or Persia, which were famous centers of astronomy and astrology. Again, we do not know for certain. Lastly, the Gospel does not supply the names of the Magi. Later traditions assigned to them the names of Gaspar, Melchior, and Balthasar, and further traditions claimed that Gaspar was the eldest in age and Balthasar the youngest.

In Western Armenian, the names are pronounced Kaspar, Melkon, and Baghdasar.

In the course of one of my arcane research ventures, I stumbled across a rare book that included a history of the Armenian Monastery of Saint John the Baptist (“Sourp Garabed Vank”), outside the ancient city of Moush. I discovered a fascinating document: It was the text of a “Gontag” (an official encyclical from a church functionary, from the Greek word Kontakion), asking for donations for repairs needed for a dilapidated sanctuary outside one of the villages of Moush.

The Gontag, sadly, does not include a date or the name of the official who issued it. Nevertheless, the text, written in Classical Armenian, provides a piece of information that is both beautiful for Armenians and critical for Christianity.

As Matthew 2:12 confirms, the Magi decided to return to their homeland via a different way. According to the Gontag, the Magi struck northward from Bethlehem and arrived on a plain outside the ancient city of Moush. There they set up camp to rest from their weary travels. In the middle of the night, Gaspar, who was apparently the eldest of the Magi, passed away peacefully. Melchior and Balthasar were naturally grieved by the passing of their older friend, and set upon the solemn task of arranging his proper burial.

Local people were commissioned, and Gaspar was buried at the brow of a hill overlooking the plain where they had encamped. The local people then constructed a sepulcher over the burial place. After a respectful period of mourning, Melchior and Balthasar resumed their journey home.

For 300 years, the local people continued to maintain the sepulcher, and passed on the oral tradition that a wise man had seen a great star, traveled to Bethlehem, witnessed the birth of a great king, and had passed away on his return journey.

The tradition of the Magi in Armenia may also have been known to King Abgar (Apkar) of Edessa (Urfa) who, according to church history, wanted to know more about Christianity, and wrote a letter to Jesus Christ, inviting Him to come to Edessa to heal the king and remain in that city (see Eusebius, History of the Church). After the Resurrection, the Apostle Thaddeus journeyed to Edessa, preached about Christianity, healed Abgar, and baptized him, making Abgar the first known Christian king of Armenia.

Before Gregory the Illuminator returned to Armenia after being consecrated a bishop in Caesarea in Cappadocia, he was entrusted by Bishop Leontius with several venerated relics. As Gregory traveled back to Armenia, he stopped outside of Moush. He ordered that a monastery be constructed there to house the great relic of Saint John the Baptist. Until May, 1915, the famous Sourp Garabed Vank stood as a sentinel of Armenian Christianity.

While Gregory was sojourning in the area, the local people told him about the burial place of the wise man. At that time, the vast majority of people living around Moush were still pagan. They understood that the sepulcher contained the relics of an important person, but they were unaware of the specific connection of Gaspar and the Magi to the theology of Christianity. Gregory immediately journeyed to the place, and recognized the sanctity of the sepulcher. He ordered that a monastery be built around the sepulcher in order to preserve and protect the relics of Gaspar. The monastery was henceforth known as “Sourp Kaspari Vank” or “Kasparavank.”

Every year, on Theophany, when the Christmas Star appeared in the night sky, the priests, monks, and pilgrims would gather at Sourp Kaspari Vank would offer the first Holy Eucharist of the feast-day on the altar-table that was constructed over the sepulcher of Gaspar the Wiseman.

In the West, many believe the relics of the Magi were discovered in the fourth century in Milan, Italy, and were later transferred to Cologne/Koln, Germany. To this day, visitors to Cologne may see the beautiful golden shrine inside the cathedral that, according to Western tradition, preserves the remains of the Magi. For centuries, pilgrims from all over the world have flocked to Cologne at both Christmas and Epiphany to venerate these relics.

But what about Armenia? If the Gontag account is accurate, then it would indicate that the more important relic–the entire body of Gaspar–has been preserved and venerated in Armenia since at least the time of Gregory the Illuminator. How a fragment of this relic arrived in Europe requires serious research, and why Armenia is not accorded a superior place in the Christmas narrative remains inexplicable.

Sourp Kaspari Vank appears to have functioned both as a monastery and a place of pilgrimage for Christians from the 3rd century until the early 19th century. The monastery was still visited up through 1915, although the building was apparently pillaged and ruined in the early 1800’s during a series of raids by Kurdish tribes. Nevertheless, the traditional resting place of Gaspar continued to be venerated by Armenians from all around Moush and the surrounding areas.

As we gather to celebrate Theophany and Armenian Christmas, I hope that you will take a moment to offer a prayer for the Magi. I also hope that you will remember the many pilgrims who traveled to Sourp Kaspari Vank year after year to celebrate Armenian Christmas Eve upon the altar-table that was constructed over the sepulcher of Gaspar. I also hope that when we discuss the issue of genocide, we take into account not only the people who perished, but the precious relics that have been lost or stolen, and the centuries of cherished traditions that have vanished.

To you and for us all come these glad tidings of great joy:

Christ is born and revealed to the Magi!

Blessed is the Revelation of Christ’s Nativity brought to the Armenians by the Magi!

This so called theologian Rev. Dr. George Leylegian better stick to his calling of Religion and Theology rather than hide behind the curtain of Mythology. Go back to his cloister and perfect the art of onanism. How did he earn his PHD, doctor of phallacy? Who bestwed him with a PHD, proffesor einstein/comedistein? Talk about the Armenian religion of today than tell us Sunday School fables intended for 3 year olds. Like what does “Ter Voghormia” or “Ee Verin Yerusaghem” means? Just like that stupid docu? “From Ararat to Zion”!

Where is Ararat and a thousand miles away zion, Yeah, yeah we know Mount Sinai, or is it the Mountain of Moses/Musaneri Ler?

Like those camel jockeys were Armenian, and they traveled to Armenia?

What happened to their astrological star guided compass ! Did they not have GPS? Was the Satellite (star) System down? Did they trade their camels for esheks?

How come they traveled north instead of east to their home in Persia? Of course, we know they were men who hate to ask for directions.

Yes, some may take us for esheks to believe such fables.

http://thewritersguidetoepublishing.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/We-three-kings-for-website1.jpg

One would only wish that the likes of him would talk about religion and theology of today instead of delving into mythology’. What will this Rev. Dr. Rev. Dr. George A. Leylegian write next? **

That ԹաթեոսTateos/Thaddeus Բարթողոմեոս Bartholomew ԱբիսողոմAbshalom (Hi Hakob Baronian) were Armenian? That they were lost in their way back to Assyria and ended in Armenian?

He may also tell us that Գրիգոր Բարթեւ Gregor Partev, just as Sahak Partev w ere also Armenian..

Above all, this Rev. Dr. could delve into religion, specially the religion of today instead of wasting all his half dozen PHD-s in MYTHOLOGY.

Can we hear him talk about Religion-Christianity of today, be they in the Homeland and the Diaspora?

No, no. It is not wearing a necklace with a 6 inch cross, it is not knowing how to make the sign of cross on one’s chest, neither it is going to church once a year to offer a “matagh”.Or, for that matter, going t o church three times in one’ lifetime, christening, wedding and funeral. In the first case one cannot understand, in the second no one cares and in the third , dead as a doornail one cannot hear or see..

http://www.achikian.com/images/jewelry/LargeArmenianCross.jpg

http://www.achikian.com/images/jewelry/LargeArmenianCross.jpg

**Before anything he should consider to defurkify his surname “leyleg’=stork”, instead adopt a surname like ‘”ARAGIL-ian” .At times “leyleg” is used in its pejorative sense meaning bow/long-legged. Some use it to mean those who cannot walk straight as in Cerebral Palsy-“STUPID”.

Mythology is very entertaining for three year olds., like when Noah built a thousand meter long ark to include all the creatures, from Aardvarks to Zebras , but one has to know the line between “mythology/religion” and “history”.

We will see what ՄՈԳ Magus/Magi really means.

Hi Merlin the Magician, Magus, ՄՈԳ!!

Turkish columnist calls Perry an ‘idiot’ for Monday debate comments

Turkey's envoy to the United States expressed disappointment and concern over comments made by Texas governor Rick Perry in Monday's GOP debate in which the candidate described Turkey's moderate Islamic leadership as Islamic terrorists. A leading Turkey lobbying group also called on the candidate to apologize for his "appalling" and "uneducated" comments, which have been greeted with disbelief, ridicule and anger by Turkey's press corps.

Turkey is "a country that is being ruled by what many would perceive to be Islamic terrorists," Perrysaid, in response to a question about whether Turkey, a top American ally, should remain a member of the NATO alliance.

The NATO ally had moved "'far away' from the country in which he'd served as a U.S. Air Force pilot in the 1970s," Perry said.

"Rick Perry: what an idiot," was the reaction from top Turkish Hurriyet Daily News columnist Mustafa Akyol on Twitter, according to CNN's Ivan Watson and Yesim Comert.

Turkey's main state broadcaster TRT added, "The debate that the Republican candidate Rick Perry attended on American Fox TV turned into a scandal that contained very ugly statements about Turkey," also according to CNN.

TURKEY: EU NEGOTIATOR, TODAY WE ARE MORE DEMOCRATIC

No genocide of Armenians, Minister Bagis in Doha

(ANSAmed) Turkey's European Affairs Minister and chief negotiator for

EU accession, Egemen Bagis, has said that "today Turkey is wealthier,

more democratic and more transparent thanks to the reforms imposed

by the European Union," adding that "the reform process required

to enter the Union is more important than the final result." Bagis,

talking during a conference in the Brookings Doha Center in Qatar,

discussed the questions that currently keep Turkey out of the EU,

including the issue of admitting the Armenian genocide now that

France has passed a law that criminalises denying the event. "What

happened in 1915 cannot be called a genocide in my view, anyway I

was not there in 1915," said Bagis.

"I am a politician, my task is to define the future, not the past," he

added. Asked whether he believes the fact that Turkey would add around

80 million Muslims to the EU is an obstacle to the country's accession,

Bagis said that "the European Union is not a club of Christians,

it is political union, the largest union for peace in the world. So

this is not a problem, also because Turkey is broadly secularised."

Bagis concluded his speech with a historical diplomatic incident. He

said that the word "Europe" has Turkish origins, annoying the Greek

ambassador to Qatar, Helen-Elsa Zorbala: "Europa was one of the lovers

of Zeus in Greek mythology, everybody knows that!", the Greek diplomat

pointed out.

PAYBACK: TURKISH MEDIA ENCOURAGE RESIDENTS TO FILE SUITS AGAINST FRANCE

http://www.armenianow.com/genocide/35310/armenian_genocide_bill_france_turkey

Genocide | 06.02.12 | 12:19

Since January 23, when the French senate passed a bill criminalizing

denial of the Armenian Genocide, Turkish retaliation toward France

has included lawsuits charging France with wrongdoing during the same

period of history.

As reported by News.am, interesting developments have unfolded

since Ahmet Karadag, a 57-year-old resident of Turkey's Gaziantep

(Ayntap) city, filed a lawsuit against the French President, France,

French-Armenians, and four Armenian foundations in Istanbul.

Ever since a Gaziantep court accepted the lawsuit in which Karadag

claims that the French had killed his grandfather in 1919-1920, and

taken his 25 camels and 3.5-kg gold, the city's media has called upon

citizens to file similar lawsuits. Ready-made petitions are provided,

and the claimants simply have to fill in their name and the date.

In the petition, Armenians are likewise accused of pillaging and

killing the Turks, and in assisting the French, for which the petition

also notes the French Armenians and the four Armenian foundations

in Istanbul.

The petition also states that the French bill was a heavy moral blow

to the Turkish people, and therefore the claimant demands a symbolic

10,000 Euros for material, and 5,000 Euros for moral damages.

TURKEY'S EU MINISTER CALLS ON GERMANY TO OPEN ARCHIVES REGARDING ARMENIANS

Cumhuriyet

http://en.cumhuriyet.com/?hn=313974

Feb 8 2012

Turkey

Turkey's European Union (EU) minister and chief negotiator, Egemen

Bagis, has called on Germany to open archives regarding Armenians to

help illuminate the issue.

BERLIN- German Welt Online posted Egemen Bagis' remarks on its web-site

and quoted the minister as saying that Germany should open its archives

regarding Armenians and help illumination of the issue.

"Germany was a strong ally of Armenians in 1915, therefore Germans

should open their archives and give documents to historians to be

examined," Bagis said.

Bagis said all documents he had seen regarding the issue did not

define the incidents of 1915 as "genocide", and freedom of thought

was among European values.

"There are people who see incidents of 1915 as genocide and there are

as many people as those people who do not see them as genocide. There

is not any inconvenience in expressing this view," Bagis said.

Bagis said both nations had losses during the World War I, and almost

2.5 million Muslims and 650,000 Armenians died.

Politicians had a responsibility about the future, not the past,

he said. Bagis said politicians were elected to make laws for the

future, not to pass laws regarding 500 years before, adding that it

was nonsense for parliaments to decide how history would be written.

French Senate adopted a law which penalizes the denial of Armenian

allegations regarding 1915 incidents during Ottoman Empire period.

Under the law, people, who deny the Armenian allegations, are sentenced

to one year in prison and 45,000 euro fine. On Tuesday, 77 senators

and 65 parliamentarians in France applied to French Constitutional

Council for the annulment of the law. The Council will announce its

decision within a month.

TSARUKYAN-PALACH WAR

Story from Lragir.am News:

http://www.lragir.am/engsrc/country25223.html

Published: 10:36:23 - 23/02/2012

Nothing is heard from state body

The "balloon" dispute between the BHP and the Republicans is escalating

into a bus war. Gagik Tsarukyan, the leader of BHP, has declared a war

on his former brother-in-arms Arthur Harutiunyan, nicknamed Palach,

who has recently defected to the Republican Party, taking along with

him a group of other members of the BHP. Now Gagik Tsarukyan wants

to punish Palach by adding Abovyan-Yerevan free buses for students,

which are also used by other people.

This is actually "dumping" by Gagik Tsarukyan. Palach runs a public

transport company, and Gagik Tsarukyan thereby deprives him of part

of his profit.

While Gagik Tsarukyan and Palach are involved in this dispute,

the question occurs where the government is. After all, this is

a case involving coach service. Do the Ministry of Communication

and Transport, the regulatory services, and generally the public

authorities operate at all? Or does everything depend on how strong

and rich the so-called Palach or Gagik Tsarukyan are?

The bus war continues for a long time, and press reports appear every

day, but the authorities are silent. Perhaps, there are no grounds to

deal with it but the situation is suitable to speak about empowering

the competent authority to deal with such cases as well.

UK recognizes Syrian rebels

Britain will recognize the Syrian National Council as a "legitimate representative of the Syrian people," Foreign Secretary William Hague said in the run-up to the "Friends of Syria" meeting in Tunisia.

In a move that is unlikely to placate Chinese and Russian concerns over taking sides in a civil war, Hague further condemned Assad's government as "a criminal regime."

Just minutes before a sideline meeting with members of the Syrian opposition on Friday, Hague urged the international community to "tighten the diplomatic and economic stranglehold" on Syrian president Bashar Assad's regime.

After pledging to intensify links with the opposition, Hague continued “we will now treat them and recognize them as a legitimate representative of the Syrian people."

He further claimed “it is very important in Moscow and Beijing for there to be a re-evaluation of the position” as Syria continues to slide “towards greater chaos and bloodshed.”

Hague also expressed frustration at those who had accused the UK of arming the Syrian opposition.

"We have in the European Union an arms embargo on Syria, so of course we will observe that arms embargo in all directions."

The meeting of world leaders at the Friends of Syria conference in Tunis comes as the country slides deeper into conflict.

With the situation drastically deteriorating, those in attendance hope to pressure Assad to allow a ceasefire in order to provide humanitarian assistance to the worst affected areas, especially in the besieged city of Homs.

Russia and China boycotted the meeting over its inherently unbalanced approach, which they say favors the opposition.

However, Moscow remained committed to ending the violence in Syria and supported a UN plan to institute an immediate ceasefire.

“We call on the Syrian government and the armed groups…to immediately take all necessary steps to prevent further deterioration of the humanitarian situation," Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Aleksandr Lukashevich said on Friday.

Lukashevich further urged both sides to cooperate with humanitarian relief efforts by the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

However, Moscow remained adamant that both sides were responsible for the violence, and maintained that humanitarian relief must not be used as a pretext for military intervention.

Russia also expressed its support for the appointment of former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan as the UN and Arab League envoy for the crisis in Syria.

Although Moscow remains committed to ending the ongoing crisis in Syria, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had previously characterized any “demand of regime change” as the direct path to “even more deaths” and “full civil war.”

Ziyad Samadzadeh: `Most of the Armenians withdrew deposits from bank

accounts and left Azerbaijan before Nagorno Karabakh conflict'

[ 17 Mar 2012 11:47 ]

Baku. Ali Ahmadov - APA-ECONOMICS. Return of USSR bank savings will

not cause problem with Armenians, who lived in Azerbaijan USSR and who

left here later, MP Ziyad Samadzadeh said.

To him, the decree issued by Azerbaijani President noted that citizens

must present ID cards in order to receive compensations: `That is, all

Azerbaijani citizens will be able to receive compensations. It is

already known that on the eve of Karabakh conflict, most of the

Armenians living in Azerbaijan withdrew their savings and left the

country. That is why, there is no problem in connection with their

savings'.

Samadzadeh says Azerbaijanis, formerly living in Armenia, put savings

in Armenian Savings Bank that time, could not get their savings, too:

`Those citizens will not be able to get money back, and what is their

fault?'
