ArmoBlog
Hi guys, I just finished with a top-10 list of Yerevan's statues, with pictures! I know, I know: you're thinking that statues are boring, right? Wrong! Statues represent your history, your country, maybe even your name. Each one is a snapshot of an important individual, event, or idea. I included pictures and descriptions with each one. I hope you enjoy it! phantom22
You mean the guy descended from the Han Dynasty Emperors of China who emanated from the Chinese province of Taron and named the province where all the Chinese allies of Mamik and Kon landed in Armenia as TARON province (nor Taron to these Chinese ancestors of Vartan). Oh how I love making money for the pharmacies selling anti-acid tablets in the Albany, New York region!! Vartan Mamikonian is my favorite. He is my hero. SanVal
In statues, does the fact that the horse is on all fours instead of the two hind legs have any significance? Somebody told me it has to do with whether the person died in battle.
Armenak
Hands down Sasuntsi Davit is the best statue. Its brother statue is a few hundred miles north of me, in Fresno. Wow... it looks pretty bad compared to the one in Yerevan... http://farm1.static.flickr.com/92/220403570_d9c8c8d09f.jpg
Nazarian
Its brother statue is a few hundred miles north of me, in Fresno. Wow... it looks pretty bad compared to the one in Yerevan... http://farm1.static.flickr.com/92/220403570_d9c8c8d09f.jpg Yes, that is bad. Maybe its because of the angle. There are a handful of statues I like in Yerevan - Sasuntsi David, Vardan Mamikonian, Komitas, Arno Babajanian and the Two Hands. There are quite a few talentless and crappy ones. Andranik Ozanian statue tops that list.
Azat
the status in Fresno is a sad tasteless example of a status. I have seen it a few times and have nothing good to say about it

SanVal
Maybe I'm the only one who's seeing this, but the statue of Vahagn looks obscene.
HyeFedayis
Maybe I'm the only one who's seeing this, but the statue of Vahagn looks obscene. He used to be the god of the Armenians. Describing him: Historian Khorenatsi's report of an ancient song gives a clue to his nature and origin: In travail were heaven and earth, In travail, too, the purple sea! The travail held in the sea the small red reed. Through the hollow of the stalk came forth smoke, Through the hollow of the stalk came forth flame, And out of the flame a youth ran! Fiery hair had he, Ay, too, he had flaming beard, And his eyes, they were as suns!
