Terrible 2nd half from Italy. I don't know what was wrong with them! It was as if they didn't care anymore! What on earth were they thinking?! Playing defense is one thing, but they weren't even doing that! But I must say, brilliant penalty shoots. At last the Italians know how to actually SHOOT penalties. :o

Wow I think Zidane definitely deserves the award for best header

Christ, he looked like a Caucasian ram during mating season. So childish. Instead of becoming the second Beckenbauer, he will be remembered as a shocking capitain who walked past the trophy into the locker rooms.

And henceforth that game will be known as

FUTT@-BOLL@, or PEDA-BALLO

:) :)

Too bad we could not call it VOTNA-GNDAK

By the power invested in me from here on football will be called VOTNA-GNDAK in Hyeforum nation.

Those who fail to do so will receive Qarsoun lashes from Arpa for Qarsoun days and Qarsoun nights.

Repeat offenders will be suspended from forum for Qarsoun days. :P

Yervant, you devil!

(I love people with a sense of humor, at least those with a sense as crude as mine.)

You are remanded to the dungeon for a “Qarsun or ev qarsun gisher of apashkharanq!

Had you lived during the 1880’s you would have made a good subject to Yacob Baronian’s deliciously incisive pen. In his “Azgayin Jojer" we read about Mkrtich Tigranian, the then Patriarch of Istanbul, the “anor al ays juren“ fame, who was so satanic that during his “qarsun or” a*****kharanq/repentence in the dungeon, when the devil refused to come and stir the ashes at the fireplace, he ran out of patience and took upon himself the devil’s task of “stirring the ashes”.

You, irreverent ingrate, :) :) you are remanded to the dungeon for “qarsun or ev qarsun gisher” until you complete your course of “qarsun mtraki harwats/lashes“.

There you can stir all the ashes you want.

Oh come on. The girls on the Italian team kept flopping and hit him all through the game yet the ref did nothing and when you have a ref who looses control of a game crap happens. :(

In any case I was sad for what he did but I dont think it was too bad a thing. Sad to see him end his glorious career with that but I dotn think people will remember him for that as the US commentators kept saying. US commentators should worry more about how their own stinking players will be remembered and should dream of someday having a home grown player who can play half as good as Zidane.

As for the game, I am happy Italy won. Between the 2 lousy teams that made it to the final I guess they deserved it better, but the reality is neither was that good. But such is the world cup...

Cant wait for Euro 2008. See you all in Austria and Switzerland. :)

I thought Zidane was one of the coolest players, I can only imagine what Italian said to him, as you know he is Algerian dessent

agree, it was a very booring game, Italy-Germany game was the best game of 2006 (in my openion)

I hate when it goes to penalty shots, not on a finale game!!

The man is the #1 European player of the past 50 years according to Uefa, and justly so. So even if Materazzi insulted Zidane's kind and kin, it didn't justify such a thing. He could have gone out on the very top even if France lost.

I mean the only reason I sided with one of the finalists was to see Zizou end it in legendary style.

(I'm DYING to know what insult was exchange during that goalkick...)

Cheers to that... :)

Yeah Italy-Germany was the best. Italians looked like they had no legs left in the second half. That was wrong with them. Fatigue.

Agreed - he's a professional football player. He definitely shouldn't be prone to letting an opponant get under his skin and talk him into getting kicked out of the game.... Totally unprofessional conduct IMO, and unworthy of the great player that he is. I wonder if the rest of the game (what was left of it) would have turned out any differently had he remained on the pitch....

Somehow I doubt it. Well, we can't tell, really.. the French weren't that bad at penalties, it was a matter of luck I guess, and even if Zidane weren't booked w/ red card, who knows what might've happened.. I doubt it would've been decisive in any way. I mean, Trezeguet's miss was purely a matter of luck (or rather, lack thereof). Though if you're going to talk in such terms, then the Italians also missed one way before that, and it could've been far more decisive, when the header hit the crossbar. :o Anyway, I doubt anyone would've scored in those 10 minutes after 110 minutes of game play.

If that thunderbolt of a header saved by Buffon was any indicaton, it wasn't impossible.

BTW, did anyone notice that just as the Azzuri converted all five penalty kicks Buffon dived the opposite of the ball on every single French attempt? :)
