Stormig Posted October 20, 2005 Report Share Posted October 20, 2005 For us Armenians, peace is when Turkey deblockades their borders, that is after 'chicken flu' passes away I think that the avian flu doesn't pose an obstacle as far as the borders are concerned. Capote wrote "In Cold Blood", "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and alongside Harper Lee he had written a great portion of "To Kill A Mockingbird". Typical Hyeforum responses to the given question On a personal level I think peace means when one has a goal and one knows that he/she has the means to achieve that goal. On a bigger scale maybe peace is when a family, a neighborhood, or a nation accepts its place in the world and that realizes the existence of other such entities and their rights to have a place in the world. But what came to mind was an interview with him about his residence. He said something to the effect that in New York even the police sirens make you aware of LIFE. Just about every generation has exercised their potential to systematically kill masses of people thru war. it's interesting to note, maybe, that most civilized human societies create efficient organizations and processes to systematically kill masses of people (ie. National army) one is left to wonder what alternatives humans have to resolving conflict other than killing each other. Conflicts have different levels of granularity, a problem between two neighbors can't be solved as that between two nations, and so on...the main obstacle to peace is that not all problems are created equal. history contains overwhelming evidence of man's ability and exercise of murdering masses of people as a way to resolve conflicts. another worthwhile thought maybe to understand the correlation between intelligence and violence.
