TURKISH SINGER DISTORTS "ADANA LAMENTATION", A SONG DEVOTED TO GENOCIDE

She Calls this Sacrilege a Wish to Talk of Genocide

http://shirakshahrikian.com/tr/images/034.jpg

The first song of Turkish singer Seden Gurel’s "Bir Kadın Şarkı Sylyor" album (2004) is the Armenian song known as "Adana Lamentation" devoted to the massacres of Adana’s Armenian population in 1909. In her album "Adana Lamentation" turned into a love song titled "Sebebim Aşk" - "The Reason is Love".

Sibel Alas is the author of the words, and Istanbul Armenian Shirak Shahrikian’s duduk accompanies the song. The latter’s participation in this sacrilege aroused the indignation of the Armenian community in Istanbul. Shahrikian wrote an article in Turkish for www.bolsahays.com Armenian website trying to justify himself where he says that the Armenians’ disapproval was expressed by numerous phone calls. Seden Gurel, in her turn, wrote a letter in September of 2004 where she tries to convince that the aim of the song was to tell the Turkish people of the Genocide (Gurel used the word "soykırım" – genocide – thus recognizing the Armenian genocide).

It’s hard to say how the Turkish society learns about the Armenian Genocide by listening to "The Reason is Love". The song was broadcasted by one of Turkish state TV channels on April 24 with the accompaniment of semi-naked Turkish women’s dance.

The song’s video clipping is available at http://www.sedengurel.com/video/sebebimask.zip

http://shirakshahrikian.com/tr/images/015.jpg

but even sadder that Armenians in LA continue playing turkish tunes at their weddings, doing exactly the same - taking the melody and changing the words to Armenian

style_images/master/snapback.png

Yes its terrible....

But nothing can be worse than to take a mourning song, convert it to love song and play it on the mourning day with semi-naked women.

it's disgusting, I could not even finish watching that video :(

Yes and we - as Armenians - we should be ashamed of associating ourselves with a nation of crooks and culturally inferior to us!

How does a Turk take an Armenian song and put Turkish words to it and make a video out of it?I dont' get it....just sick...

Exactly what part comes as a surprise to you? Is it the first time you're exposed to Jurks? Their entire identity is stolen and/or fabricated:

1- The Lands

2- The genetic pool

3- Most of their vocabulary

4- The monuments i.e. Cultural Artifacts

5- etc. etc.

Their National Philosophy is based on

1- First stealing

2- Then erasing all traces of the real owners

3- Finally appropriation of the spoils. Appropriation where the spoils are presented as their own heritage.

The only Jurkish element left in them is their Central Asian Mindset of a looter , a criminal, a thief!

Looking at it from a positive point of view: our music is hitting the popular scene in Turkey. What could be better?

style_images/master/snapback.png

Until the day it's true identity is totally disfigured, then appropriated and presented as Turkish!

Many Armenian/Greek Cultural Artifacts have known the same faith in the past. Please keep in mind the Crook mentality of Jurks.

I don't think it's a considerable loss - if any - for us Armenians; it's the disregard of our sensitivities and the lack of consideration of our feelings that we are condemning!

Let me bring you an example. Please dont be offended.

You grandfather was shot by your neighbor on June 17, 1901 because your neighbor wanted your grandfather's home and eventually destroyed the home after shotting to death your grandpa and raping his daughters. Because of the corrupted police, the neighbor of your grandfather was not put on trial. Your grandfather's daughter (might be your mother or aunt) composed a mourning song in the memory of your grandfather and that song was played in your home on every June 17.

The grandson of your grandfather's neighbor denies that his grandfather has killed yours and has destroyed your grandaps home. Somehow that grandson knows about the mourning song composed by your mother. He takes that song, changes the lyrics, has a party in his home [sic- in your grandpas destroyed home] on June 17 and plays that music as loud as he can and 10 naked girls are dancing belly-dance.

Now I ask you the same question.

What could be better?

How does an Armenian take a Turkish song and put Armenian words to it and make a vidoe out of it? ... And just in case you people haven't noticed Armenians have been doing this for years.

PS. I think we should be able to discuss that topic. Just move it in the music section.

Edit note: Anoushik I moved this post out from Rabiz back to this thread

anybody is welcome to comment here, my objection was, this topic does not belong in the Genocide section.

I still have a reservation about this kind of topics being discussed in congestion with Genocide, but I have to go along with wishes of the majority of the forum members and allow it.

Sasun,I realize that...but with Armenians who do that I always assumed t hat they live or have lived in Turkey, and it's just what they like...to be honest with you my husband used to listen to Turkish music, his mother was brought up there,so she listened to it,and his grandmother and he did by default .... I'm not a very bossy person, but I put an end to that in my home....and in his car ;)

The reverse just doesn't make sense to me...
