For the record, I don't think he is stupid. hahahaha But about success, I "agree" with you that different people will have different opinions of you. In the eyes of a homeless guy, Azat may be very successful. In the eyes of Bill Gates, Azat may be the biggest loser in the world! Thus, "success" is by no means a Universal absolute metric by which we can measure things. So in the original post that started this thread, when I was talking about people not succeeding in things, it was purely my perspective on things (my measure of their success). But many other Dutch people, for instance, may not be able to tell the difference. Should I care? I don't think you should particularly "care" about it. However I think you should at least be "aware" of it ... That most likely, if you walk, talk, and act like a Turk, you are a turk (I am sorry to say). It does NOT matter to the world what is going on in your head and what you "think". It only matters what you "do". That's my position on the thing and I am fully aware that many people disagree. Many say if you are a good person inside, that's all that matters. I say, NO! You are only a good person if you act like one. If you help the ones in need, if you don't hurt others around you etc. The world couldn't care less if you think about that stuff all the time but act like a Turk!

    Golden-Circle?!

There is nothing "sophisticated" about it. It's a pyramid scheme which never works. It's basically a sham. I hope people in Armenia won't be fooled by their sneaky wordings such as: "network marketing", "advanced database management", "you're in the system for free", etc. Only a very very very small number of people will make a LARGE amount of money in the system. And you can sure that if you didn't start the system, you won't be one of the "lucky" ones! There is a saying here in the US ... not sure where it came from: "If you look around the poker table and you can't figure out who the sucker is, you're it".
  4. quote:Originally posted by nairi: quote:Originally posted by Sip: As of now, I think "success" is what others think of your accomplishments. I truly hope not.Why not? The more I think about it, the more it makes sense to me. It all goes back to my philosophy on "you are what you seem to be" (click for the full thread). If Azat looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then he is a duck! (replace all those with the stuff he said about house, car, job, etc and the conlclusion by "successful"). I really think success is a measure by which others rate your accomplishments. What you think in your head is irrelevant quote:Originally posted by Azat:(Doctor, what should I do? ) Were you referring to me? In that case you still have to wait about a year

  8. quote:Originally posted by BTac:... important to work efficiently ... Yah! That's the word I was basically looking for. I think you got what I was trying to say. To make another simplistic example, let's say I want to build a house. If I get up in the morning, start jumping up and down, running around, digging holes in the ground and then fill them up, even though I WORK very hard, I will NEVER succeed in building the house! So was my observation with fellow students at school. Some of them work amazingly hard. Days before a test they spread all their books over a table, shuffle through pages and pages of notes, make zillions of colorful "flash cards", drink gallons of coffee ... but then they end up not doing too well on the test. All this, even though they suffered hours and hours, "worked" tirelessly taking beautiful notes in class, making those awesome note cards, and then spending all their time in the library flipping pages and "reading" their beautiful notes. Then they wonder what happened... why didn't their hard work pay off as it was supposed to ... Azat: Good question about success. I am not sure how to define it. As of now, I think "success" is what others think of your accomplishments.

    Joke of the day

I just thought this was very funny for some reason --- Every Friday afternoon, a mathematician goes down to the bar, sits in the second-to-last seat, turns to the last seat, which is empty, and asks a girl who isn't there if he can buy her a drink. The bartender, who is used to weird university types, always shrugs but keeps quiet. But when Valentine's Day arrives, and the mathematician makes a particularly heart-wrenching plea into empty space, curiosity gets the better of the bartender, and he says, "I apologize for my stupid questions, but surely you know there is NEVER a woman sitting in that last stool. Why do you persist in asking out empty space?" The mathematician replies, "Well, according to quantum physics, empty space is never truly empty. Virtual particles come into existance and vanish all the time. You never know when the proper wave function will collapse and a girl might suddenly appear there." The bartender raises his eyebrows. "Really? Interesting. But couldn't you just ask one of the girls who comes here every Friday if you could buy HER a drink? Never know... she might say yes." The mathematician laughs. "Yeah, right -- how likely is THAT to happen?"

He also does the voices of Ned Flanders, Burns, Smithers, Lenny (Homer's coworker), Otto, Jasper, Herman (the one-armed military guy), Kent Brockman, Rev. Lovejoy, God, Satan, McBain and a LOT of other misc characters. Oh, and according to simpsons.com, that name is actually Armin Tamzarian. I have seen Malcom in the Middle maybe once or twice. It seems to be pretty interesting ... but no Simpsons

quote:Originally posted by Kazza:... The great thing is that it is NOT a kids cartoon, simply an animated sitcom. I think it is actually both of those AND much more. They manage to somehow appeal to all sorts of people. They got simple "cartoon" type comedy for the kids (like when Homer bangs his head around, falls down, and other physical comedy stuff) ... they have deep story lines dealing with religeon, family, society ... they have a lot of satire-type stuff making fun of popular books, movies, pop-culture, political current events, and a lot of other things. On top of that, they have tons of deep-hidden jokes and messages ... than only a select few in the population would be able to understand. But when you do understand it, it becomes extremely interesting and entertaining. Everytime I watch an episode, I find something new that I didn't notice before. It is amazing how talented their writers, Matt Groening and Dan Castanella (Homer's voice) in particular, are and how much time and effort they put into those scripts. They somehow manage to have something for everyone! That has probably been the key to their amazing success.

quote:Originally posted by Kazza:Did you see they one about principal skinner really being Amarind Tamazarian? (i THINK that's the name, anyway) I been dying to see it but it was never aired on Sky. Yes! Actually it was Armen Tamzarian! My brother and I couldn't believe our ears the first time he said his real name. Actually, that episode is a fairly strange one. It turns out that this whole time he has actually been lying and in reality, he is an Armenian guy pretending to be this "Seymore Skinner" who returned from war. Can you imagine? They picked an Armenian to be the "impostor". But at least he is a very decent and good guy in the show ... who lives with his mother and never goes out!
  13. This thing got me curious ... I was just flipping through the channels when something on Iranian TV (here in LA) caught my eye... this guy was showing a picture of his parrents. His father was 38, his mom was 8 or 9 in that pic He said his mom gave birth to his bigger brother at around the age of 12. After a bit of http://zr2.cs.ucla.edu/Sip/zr2/barf.gif I started to think. Did such things happen in Christian Armenia as well or is pedophilia mainly an "islamic" thing?

Everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING in your computer is done in binary. Amazing huh? You can do all this with just 1's and 0's.
  18. Azat jan, since you started this, I have to post this few short pointers a friend gave me today that I thought were VERY funny. [*]Marriage is a 3-ring circus: Engagement Ring, Wedding Ring and Suffering. [*]Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer gut, and still think they are beautiful. [*]Why do men fart more than women? Because women can't shut up long enough to build up the required pressure. (I appologize for that last one but it REALLY made me laugh)

  20. quote:Originally posted by nairi:10110 ... 16+0+4+2+0=22 Did this make sense? Yup! You got it. quote:Originally posted by nairi:Next, how do you convert decimals into binary? Going the other way is a bit more interesting. The most straight forward way is to repeatedly try to find, and subtract, the largest powers of 2 that go into the number that you want to convert to binary. Instead of trying to explain it using long sentences, I'll just do an example and it should become clear. Example: 432 For reference, powers of 2 are: 1,2,4,8,16,32,64,128,256,512,1024,... We see 256 is the largest one which is still less than 432. Let's take it out: 432-256=176. Now we see 128 is the largest one which is still less than 176. Let's take it out: 176-128=48. Now we see 32 is next: 48-32=16. Now we see 16 is next: 16-16=0. We are done! We used 256 (2^8), 128 (2^7), 32 (2^5), and 16 (2^4). So digits 8, 7, 5, and 4 should be 1 and the rest should be 0. So 432 in binary is 110110000 You may want to try to convert it back to check to see if I did it correctly.
  21. quote:Originally posted by HOVSEP KASHISHIAN:Sip,lets start somthing togather, and we might get rich fast, what do you say. Hmmmm ... that's NOT a bad idea at all! I actually got ordained as a minister once online ... I think it was for ULC (Universal Life Church) They gave me my certificate and everything. I think I am qualified by law to marry people in most states but I am not 100% sure. I'll have to go find that certificate and also work on my "halleluja" and "amen" saying skills. Can you handle the money side? All you have to do is answer the phone and just take the orders. --- On a more serious note: What is our argument now? The thread started off by saying that some things (or many things) in the church are clearly outdated and in need of change. I don't think anyone has disagreed with that so far ... am I right?
  22. quote:Originally posted by hagarag:Be Careful Sip, You may enrage some of the people here. How dare you claim that Christ was a JEW????????? Yah you are right! But I bet you no one would get enraged when I claimed Jesus was Armenian
  23. quote:Originally posted by nairi:120+56+24+8=208 What went wrong? Because if this was right then binary should be: 128 (2^7), 64 (2^6), 32 (2^5), 16 (2^4)= 11110000 Very close but not quite. You did the conversion correctly. The only thing is that at the end, you forgot about the 8. So the binary is actually 11111000. About your "check" 120+56+24+8=208 ... that is incorrect. Those are the left overs after the subtractions. They really don't mean much other than to help us figure out in the conversion process. In the end, you should check to see that the powers of 2 which you picked add up to 248: i.e. 128+64+32+16+8 It basically comes down to splitting the number up into a sum of powers of 2 quote:Btw, I don't have that calculator on my computer unfortunately. I do have a scientific one, but it doesn't have BIN or DEC on it. If you have any MS Windows, you probably have the calculator. If you have win95 and later, click start, select run, type "calc", click on OK. It should come up. Again, assuming you have a PC with Windows. Don't know about MACs But HERE is a page which does just that + it has "explanations" [ August 19, 2002, 03:48 AM: Message edited by: Sip ]

D I sincerely hope I didn't make a mistake on this since I spent about 10 minutes on it and my head hurts! It is definitely one of the most confusing things I have ever had to "solve" I did make an assumption that "after" means to the right and "before" means to the left. Oh and "between the letter just above L and just below O" didn't really make sense to me so I assumed it was referring to F. [ August 19, 2002, 01:15 AM: Message edited by: Sip ]
  25. Oh one thing I just remembered ... if you are using windows, just start the calculator, choose "scientific" from the view menu, and now you can convert numbers to and from binary! Just type a number and either click on BIN or choose "binary" from the view menu. To go back to decimal mode, click on DEC or choose "decimal" from the view menu. That calculator is a GREAT little tool that comes very handy sometimes.
