Wow ... pretty fascinating about Norway. I had no idea. I don't think they have anything like that in Germany. The area we lived in for a while, had a very specific and thick accent. However, they taught us standardized "pure" German in school. It was funny since I had learned German mostly by listening to the kids and people around so I did have some trouble adjusting to the clean written german in school ... I basically did have to relearn some things. Nairi, I think your point is solid and well said and I am definitely not qualified enough to argue with it! However, the more I think about it, the more I realize that it is probably not to the best interest of those kids to cling to their "cultural" roots like that. Suppose I am a boss at some big company one day and I want to hire a new employee ... suppose I got 2 letters from 2 very capable candidates. One says: "Dear Sir, I would really like to join your company and I believe I can be a great asset to the team." The other says: "Yo dawg, this fo be wanting to hang with yo bling bling and I be all dat you dig?" Which one of those two do you think will get the job? What is really in the best interest of those kids? To preserve their culture and be nobodies when they grow up (that's how I see it) or become educated professional members of the society that can THEN go and learn all they want about their culture. Also, I think you especially can relate ... coming from a background of having to deal with multiple languages, I don't think it is that unimaginable to speak one language at home and learn a completely different and "standardized" language at school while still maintaining true identity, culture, roots, etc

Nairi jan, after reading all this, I think I totally agree with you about the "value" of ebonics and the fact that it IS a valid dialect. However, having had the pleasure of going through this wonderful US public education system (at least high school and above personally and my brothers elementary+) , I think they should concentrate on teaching the kids basic reading, writing, and aritmethic before taking on such lofty goals and complex curricula. It may be hard to believe but these kids can't even READ basic english (standardized, professional world, whatever it is called) let alone the American, British, Irish, or the Shakespearian versions. So on the essense of the topic, I am with you. But from the practical side, where the US education system is concerned, I am definitely with Azat. Teach them 1+1=2 before you teach them the dialect where 1+1=10 (But I agree that both are probably equally important )

Yup it is so I have tried my best to discourage anyone who reads this from getting into it but that's as much as I can do. Regarding the forum rules ... as long as you are not trying to SELL your certificates here, and as long as you are not trying to push people to go and participate, there are no rules being broken (in my opinion). After all, it always comes down to "buyer beware" and I think it is important to talk about stuff like this. Good luck with the "investment" The only final warning I have is that please don't sell them to your friends! It is very likely that many around you will become involved in this and it is VERY likely that most will lose money. After thinking about it some more ... I think I should clarify a bit more what I was trying to say. As far as a single individual is concerned, anything can happen!!! So you may well end up making money with this ... basically, I am NOT saying that NO one will EVER get money with this. All I was trying to say was regarding the "scheme" as a whole. It's just that in the long run, most of the participants will lose money (which makes sense since not everyone can make money at the same time, unless something "real" is created). What it really comes down to, is that people pay you some money in the hopes that other people will pay them even more money! Ok my head hurts now ... Oh I just read the thing more carefully ... it looks like it costs you $45 to enter the system. $15 to buy a certificate, $15 to pay to the person on top of the certificate, and $15 for "monitoring". One thing is for sure. Whoever is "monitoring" will make a lot of money.
