How to break the news to the parents of an Armenian
Sip replied to BrianWood's topic in Love and Romance
No matter what the nationality, I can find it VERY hard to imagine any parent being able to easily accept the "news" if a strange guy shows up one day and says hey, your daughter and I are going to get married First meet, let them get to know you, you get to know them, spend some time, then ease into the marriage thing a few months later. I am not saying this because you are not Armenian ... just put yourself in their shoes and imagine your daughter shows up with some guy one day. How would you react? -
The salt can't be good Mosjan ... the only thing that is good is "aratsel" koveri nman

Haha ... Well Sony is traditionally more on the expensive side. I have had a tiny portable one (Vaio T-series ... T350 to be exact) for several years now with heavy daily usage (goes everywhere with me). It has never missed a bit though most of the parts on it are now really worn out from over-use. It has really been an exceptional laptop. The new ones are the TT series that are will in the $2000 range. The Dell XPS 15... are pretty decent. I can definitely see myself buying one. That's not to say Dells don't have problems but they are usually pretty good with warranty. My brother had a Dell 13xx (I think) with some bad hardware parts in it and they sent a guy to our house to replace the parts. Of course he screwed it up and would have had to come back to re-fix it if my brother hadn't figured out what the guy didn't do right To be honest, it is very hard for me to decide whether a $1000 laptop is worth it these days with all the sub $500 "netbooks" running around. Heck there are some that are even in the $300-$400 range. But if the person you are taking it for doesn't have access to any other computers, then a full laptop is a good idea (just in case he or she needs to do some work where teh cheap netbooks might fall short). So about the Dell, I'm not up to date on prices but it's a decent machine with the caveat that I don't know how Dell warranty will work if the machine is physically in Armenia.

Nice! That thing probably has 2 engines in it, right? With twin jets? I think that one should be around 200HP but with the 2 motors, I can imagine it can take off like crazy from stop. My guess is these are the older 2 cylinder rotax engines but I really don't know much about the old ones. Mine is a single 3 cylinder rotax engine but it is supercharged. It is very light so I could probably beat you in the first few seconds ... my guess is on the top end, you will probably overtake me in straight speed ... especially in slightly choppy conditions. Are you going to take it out in salt water or just lakes? Has it ever been in salt? I have to get things ready again to go hit up Lake Powell in August. This will be my 4th year straight if I go.

No PC should "crash frequently". If it does, that is a serious problem which could either be due to software (operating system or applications) or hardware. Software problems are much easier to diagnose and fix than random crashes due to hardware problems. If it's an older laptop, it might be a lot easier to just re-image the thing to factory condition (basically reinstall everything from scratch). Usually sony ships DVDs (or has some built in functionality) to do that easily. In terms of hardware problems, sometimes older laptops just get clogged with dust and dirt and start to overheat. Of course there could be a number of other reasons things can be crashing. A bit more info about what is happening with the PC might help here.

Linux and Android (linux based). In the near future, expect to see a bunch of really cheap and very cool Android devices. I would also like to see what Microsoft is planning about Windows Mobile ... with Android, iPhone, and Blackberry charging hard, I really hope they are not going to just sit on Windows Mobile 6 and wait. By the way, did you know they are actually going to version Windows 7 as "6.1"? I guess it's to keep compatibility with Vista which is technically version 6.0.

Windows OK but who cares about Internet Explorer. Why would they need to "import" Internet Explorer?

I have always hated kids (smaller than say 8 or 9 years old). I will never intentionally try to have one. Ok well I don't mind the "trying" part. It's the "having" part that I will try to avoid very vigorously.

What is amazing is that he created this thread pretty much a full year before The Da Vinci Code came out. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Khodja (aka Hagarag etc) is either related to the head, or has slept with the head, or knows someone who has had an affair with the current head of the Priory of Sion.

By the way I didn't provide a suggestion cause I don't have any so I wasn't being a smart ass However, I usually get some neoprene (or some other tight) sleeves for my laptops and then it doesn't matter what I carry them in.

NOTHING beats watching them actually do something. Give them a couple of things to interpret. Forget the resume, forget whatever bullsh!t they are going to tell you about themselves. Watch how they perform. Then if they are not looking like complete losers, have a conversation and measure up how they are as basic human beings and whether they will fit the culture of the work place. The caveat is you don't want to throw them into a difficult problem first. Give them something trivial to boost confidence and let them have a chance to shake the initial interview jitters ... then, just let them have it! Be ready to make things more and more complicated or to dumb things down depending on how they are moving along during the interview.

Mos, didn't you recently get an iPod?

So are you saying, in such a hypothetical case, we should do what a jew would do in our place?
-
That may be true so perhaps you should ask Arrata why he felt the need to bring up Gaza. I didn't mention anything about Gaza until it was brought up by him. It is sad to see what Israel is doing as it was very sad to see what Nazi Germany did to the jews, as it was very sad what the Turks did to the Armenians. My comments about kittens was purely in reference to the Armenian Genocide and has nothing to do wiht Gaza. NOTHING.
-
Have you seen what we do with Denialists here? They are handed their asses back to them faster than they can hit enter on their second or third post. Pepole have a right to speak their mind but I too have a right to call racist bull-crap as I see it. If you guys think trying to "discuss" jews carrying out the Armenian Genocide is a smart way of addressing current problems in Gaza, by all means, entertain yourselves as you wish. I will go and write my book about kittens.
-
Arrata, before you misunderstand me, I am NOT making ANY light of the horrible situation going on in the gaza region. My problem is anti-jewish agendas that desparately try to disguise themselves as somehow being sympathetic to Armenians.
-
Let's follow the logic here: Israel is killing children in Gaza Bunch of people really hate Israel A lot of Armenians died in early 20th century Therefore the jews did it. Yup ... sounds like flawless logic to me.

Barska-hye's also say "plav" which is probably comming from the same place as the english pilaf ... my guess is polo is from those roots (the cooked version of the food) where as my guess is brindz/berenj is the rice grain itself.

Did you have pomogranate molasses? Usually that's the key. If you have options, maybe try a different brand.
