This reminds me of how the Turks reduced the khatchkars to the "anchor stones" of Noah's ark. But of course, this is the Turks' own internal propaganda-- one that is viewed mainly by tourists. I see a lot of what Gams sees-- people giving Turkey credit that she doesn't deserve.

At first glance, this looks like a good thing; the movie expresses the current Armenian situation on a more personal level that a documentary about the Genocide could. But then again there's the censorship... Such censorship takes away from the essence of the film.

This is exactly how I put it when I emailed my local PBS petitioning the denial panel. Unfortunately, PBS is still going to air the panel in Houston. I emailed them again last week, and I'm waiting for their reply.

I don't know what Armenak meant by this, but concerning what kakachik said, I think she's right. The Pope has no voice in Armenian social issues. In fact, the Catholicos doesn't even have a voice in it. It's long been the tradition of the Orthodox Church to not meddle with social issues, unlike the corrupt domineering Catholic Church.

I know Shahla is a Persian name, and there's a funny story about how I learned that (right Zartonk ) but that's for another day and another thread. I do know that some Persians' last names end in "ian." Its not common, but there's a good number nonetheless. It goes without saying that there wouldn't be an Armenian-- at least full blooded-- named Ali; its a Muslim name.

So Gams are the Georgians not true Europeans? What about in comparison to Armenians?

And there you have the Vanetsi dialect. It's a shame its extinct. We've lost such unique phrases as: "Ch'asets Ch'asats (Ջասեդս Ջասադս)"-- Don't say that I didn't say [it, or to you] (Equivalent to contemporary Western Armenian's "Chu'ses Chu'si).

I'm not dismissing their intentions, as I believe they are noble. I'm only poking fun at the abrasive "VTEC bro" stereotype that some Armenians choose to unveil at any and every occasion-- even Genocide remembrance.

I wish those statues hadn't been destroyed. Shame. I see what you mean about the quality of preservance and care being better in the West, but the principle stays the same. And what about places that already have adequate facilities? The British take from them, too ;-)

You could say that they're doing humanity a favor by saving it all in one place... ...but the truth is they're just thieves. Its not their right to steal, or as they say, collect or acquire, other nations' historical and cultural possessions.
