What the "newspapers" and people of the former Soviet Union classify as Mafia would generaly fall under the Category of business men or entrepreneurs in the US. Eighty years of voodoo economics went along with eighty years of brainwashing the population that being a value added merchant was akin to being something slimy and deserving of banishment or worse. In the Communist world the attitude was and is that the small merchant is a blood sucking leech who made a profit without producing anything. Yet we know that in an advanced economy the wholesaler, the middlemann, the financeer, the transport carriers, the customs brocker, the insurance brocker, etc. all play an instrumental part between the manufacturer and ultimate consumer. Armenian businessmen and other businessmen whose ethnicity does not attract much attention, rely on strong arm thugs and their tactics because of the lack of competent and complete laws to secure the Creditor against the default by the Debtor. In the US, our laws are mostly written by businessmen. Therefore, the laws protect the creditors efficiently. In Russia the laws were written by a wise tribunal of Genghis Khan, Rasputin and Michey Mouse. If a merchant sells on credit and the receipient does not pay, the recovery system through court action is too cumbersome, and uncertain. Sending a group of smelly, hungry, unshaven[the darker the better] thugs to collect is, more certain. The need for products and services attract Armenians and other business people to the market and the infrastructure for credit and payment is not supported in law or in enforcement by the Russian authorities. Beating up on Caucasian refugees and immigrants won't help anything. Perhaps the Russians could improve the welfare system and then they could place all their Caucasian refugees on American Style welfare. There is always something........

I read an interesting history book written by a rabi about judaic hystory. he said that the ashkenatzi jews were jews taken into captivity by the babilonians, and resettled in the Armenian province of Ashkenavar. I believe that. The tzi part of their name seems to be Armenian. I wonder why he would make that up if it wasn't true. The book, written about 30 yars ago was for a Jewish readership. As far as the Azerbaijianis are concerned, they are Mongols. more specifically Tatar. The Tatars are the more bacward and primitive of the allready backward Mongols. Among the Turks, beig called a Tatar is an insult. Same as the Dadjig appelation.

I finally received a reply assigning me a person to speak to which will return next week.

I went to Romania Last Year and everyone is down on drugs there. As they were telling / asking me about drugs, I was watching the cows munching on the Marihuana growing on the side of the road. I just thought . Isn't ignorance bliss? So I left those ignorant cows to their doile rumination as I agreed with my hosts that there is just no hope for America. By the way, a Lb of Marijuanna Bird Seed is 13 cent a Lb. It makes the birds sing more carefree. Seriously folks, wake up amd smell the Currency. If Cannabis was to be Legalized, what are the tabbacco companies going to sell then? It's too easy to grow it.

Do Kurds Make Territorial Claims On Armenia?
edward demian replied to MosJan's topic in International
It seems to me that the Kurds physically populate Western Armenia even though they themselves are under the Turkish Yoke. So if we want any part of old Armenia, we would have to make our peace with the Kurds. They seem to be favorably disposed to have the Armenians on their side. We should do more for them. We should represent them at the UN. Give them a voice now, for a place at the table later. -
I starte to eat Ak-mak in the 60's. I think those early armenians called their bread Ekmek which is a Turkish word for bread. Very tasty, very pricey.

I would think that if you wanted Armenian Linguistic Purity that you should try to approach it through the Krapar Dictionary. That language was written down in its present form 1700 years ago. You will probably find a lot of Aryan words, Indo European, Sanscrit, Hitite, Proto Keltic etc. But are these loan words derrived from a Blood/linguistic contact or are they derrived from others from whom we had contact with and copied. i.e. Persian, Turkish, Russian, Tatar, Georgian Greek, Latin, Middle French, etc. The real test of a languages roots is it's grammar. And since my grammar sucks in any language, I'll let others step in.

I just did. Thanks. E-mailed them and I am wayting for a response.

There are many myths about Armenian Origins. What is true is that the Hittites, which were a confederation of Kingdoms and people, but of Indo European Origin were conquered by a Light skinned tribe, probably Kelts about 1250BC. This tribe was called Armens but called Phyrigian by the Greeks. These Armens lorded over the general population for about 600 yars, by which time they were absorbed in to the larger genepool. These conquerors seemed to be more predominant around lake van and in severtal other population centers, where there was a larger preponderence of red haired, blue eyed Armenians than most. Don't forget, that for 1200 years of Muslim domination, we and the other Christian minorities paid all the taxes. Muslims were tax exempt due to their military responsibility. When you fell behind, the tax collector came to your house and took a cow, some sheep maybie a child. They prefferred Light skinned children because they fetched a better price on the slave market. So by process of natural selection, the race became darker with the ages. As far as the Aryan thing. Aryans are a group of people that speak a group of related languages. The Aryan Determination has gotten a bum rap due to the Hitler thing. So it is not used any more in polite educated society. Indo european, Caucasian, Proto Indoeuropean are now the buzz words. Armenian seems to have a very rich vocabulary. As rich as the English language. A third of the words Ethymiologically seem to be of Aryan Origin, A third is of Persian Origin which is itself a different branch of the Aryan tree and the last third is probably of Hitite Origin but we don't know because Turkey does not want much Armenian Origins research to happen on their watch. I would like to say that the Kurds claim to have a Hitite Origin too. Others too.

I tried to do business with Armenia. Tried to have some metal castings produced and deliverred to the US. The factory that I finally contacted did not have a working Fax number or machine, and did not bother to follow up on my written correspondence. Some woman answerred the phone and she was so untrained, I could not even communiucate with her in Armenian. That was enough for me. <_<

I did all that. I was hoping for someone from Iraq who knew some builders or construction development type of Armenians in Iraq.
-
At the urging of some American colegues, I 've decided to explore some business opportunities in Iraq (They will need a lot of recycling Equipment). So in order to meet and speak to a knowledgeble Iraqi Armenian, I obtained the phone number of the local Parish in Baghdad and tried to call; Shades of Joseph Stalin!!! The tape tersly said: Calls to this country are not allowed. OK, not to be deterred. Anyone here from Iraq? How do you call? How do you visit?

It seems to me that one would have to make certain decisions such as what kind of crop to cultivate. And that is dependant on availability of labor. So perhaps cattle farmning may be more realistic than raising grapes in an area where there is a shortage of labor. However, since there seems to be a lot of unused pastures, and if the Government won't sell it yet, than perhaps they will lease land. Sort of like grazing permits out west.It seems to me that cattle breeding / raising is the best solution and if the area becomes unstable, your capital is on the hoof, so you and your Armenian cowboys, perhaps there are still a few men who ride in the mountains, hoof it out to a better market. As far as subsistance farming, forget it. Tou'll bury yourself with it.

I thought Armenians were smarter than to participate in Pyramid schemes. Or embarassed enough not to admit it to other Armenians.

If our geography had been different and the Mediteranian would have been the border instead of Turkey, what then? The real key to the success of the Armenian nation is in its economy. With an open economy like that of the US, and with equal property rights for cityzens and nationals, the country would surely have a labor shortage. I wonder if opening the borders with Turkey would not be the end of Armenia. An influx of milions of Turks for jobs would overwhealm and out populate Armenia. In some respects Armenia is stronger now than before the independance. It is self sufficient in Energy production. Not many countries can boast of that. If only free banking laws, of the Swiss Variety and other Tax Haven countries, could be enacted, There would be an influx of money which would drive the cost of borrowing down which would stimulate all industry. Once again we revert back to the "Cityzenship" issue. Universal Armenian Rebulic Cityzenship to all for the asking, much like the Israeli's law of Return. That is a must. Smart money wants to be safe money. A business man want to know that he has the same rights as the locals. To join the EU a country has to adopt property rights laws. As such, Turkey will have to return all the Armenian properties on individual basis. Perhaps that would accomplish what the polititians can't.

important about Armenia or The Changes That We* like To S
edward demian replied to sen_Vahan's topic in Republic of Armenia
The real secret to atracting men into the Army is the benefits one gets from the army as a veteran. As a US military veteran I am entitled to many things. 1. I can purchase with just 1 US Dollar "downpayment" any approved home or farm up to (last time I checked) $175,000 2. I am entitled to tuition for up to 4 years of University Education or vocational training. (The money was sufficient to sustain a family with) 3. Free lifetime medical care. 4. Entitled to a business loan or farm loan equal in value to #1. 5. Free burial plot and service. 6. If I die before my children mature, survivor benefits go to my family and chilldren until they are 18 years old. 7. If I die in the service, my family gets $10,000 8. If I'm not a cityzen, I'm guaranteed cityzenship after my first term of enlistment. However it is not automatic and one has to apply like all others. All the same laws and rules apply as to criminal record etc. Additionally, As a California Veteran, I can buy another House or farm anywhere in the country for an amount comparable to the Federal Package. These benefits change for new comers but they stay the same for the veterans. So the deal you make when you sign up or are drafted is the deal you die with. That's what inteligent nations do for their veterans. The Romans used to offer cityzenship and 40 acres and a mule upon retirement from the Legion. Both the American Army and the Roman Legion had a surplus of volunteers. Before you say that Armenia is too poor and cannot afford this. Let me tell you that the program is self sustaining financially. The mortgage payments from the Home and Farm loans pay for everything. The government does not have to add anything to the fund. The problem with the Armenian Army is the political leadership of the country. The same old Communists running the country and keeping all fresh ideas and diasporan Armenians from participation. Armenia has an opportunity of becoming the Switzerland of the Caucasus instead it chooses to be the Albania of the Caucasus. Without universal Armenian cityzenship for all Armenians, it will remain as is. -
Very interesting. Where did you find this out? I thought that I had exhausted all there was to read about our history, and now another pleasant tid bit. Please keep it up.

Hey guys, you missed the point to all this Jewish influence and power. They strived and sacrificed to get it. Crucial comment just made above, "most of the negociators are Jewish". That is right. If most of the Presidential cabinet was of Greek and Armenian background, we would be in a different position. We won't get anything out of the melting pot with a paper spoon. We need Iron Spoons like our opponents. If Armenians want influence, they have to manuever and arrive to positions of power. And that will not happen if we send our kids to schools to learn commerce. Some of our kids have to attend military schools, diplomatic schools, become involved in politcs, join the civil service, etc. How many Armenians are attending the West Point military academy today. Probably none. We have had one Armenian General and he was incharge of all the cooks in the armed forces. I doubt that he sat on any strategy meetings. How many general circulation newspapers are owned by Armenian interests? How many "news services"? None!!!! GET THE PICTURE NOW?

These is ample evidence that the Arab conquest of Armenia was brutal swift and deep. There is much evidence of that in the history books. However, because of the conquest and subsequent expulsion of the Arabs by the Turks, we have forgotten that part of our history. Today, Arabs are not concerned with their Christian minorities, but it is Islam that threatens the Christians, not the Arabs. Some of us Armenians that grew up in Arab lands seem to be somewhat enfatuated with the Arabs which are basicly a laid back bunch typical of peoples from hot tropical places. But place a little rabble rousing Mahdi type in their midst and they will rise up and butcher anyone non muslim in their path. We exist at their pleasure and they view us and our successes in their midst with amusement; much as a benevolent despot tolerates a court jester. We, as Christians live as second class citizens in the realm of Islam. We are Europeans, and we better remember that because thats where our future lies.

ANKARA TELLS US UNDERSECRETARY TURKEY DOES NOT WANT TO FACE
edward demian replied to MosJan's topic in Genocide
Why is this news? I believe that they don't want to face Genocide bills in the US Legislature, or anywhere else. All this shows that they are worried and scared. With Communism gone, the Gravy Train may stop any day, and once again the sick man of Europe will fall back into some bacward State rife with discontent. Without Europe to act as a relief valve for the unemployment problems, and no US massive military investments, Turkey may disintegrate. The Kurdish problem is far from gone. The Persians are of no help to them, Whats left ecxept begging the American legislators for help. -
Is seems to me that we may have made some chices in the past that may have brought us to this. As Armenians we should have clearly stayed newtral in the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. Yet, it seems that the Armenian community in Jerusalem has been aligning itself with the palestinians. Perhaps we are begining to see the fruit of that mistake. The Jews are there to stay. Whether you like Jews or not, you have to admire their success in getting their lands back. We have real estate in Jerusalem and Bethlehem but not the population to support it. We should relocate some Armenian refugees from other parts of the world to those lands in order to solidify our hold on them. The Armenian government should become more proactive in these kinds of affairs. Perhaps establish a "Department of Diasporan Affairs", with Cabinet level staus. Right mow we are faint screams in the dark. If we get sucked into this conflict we will loose. Even if the Palestinians were to win, and we ended up on the winning side, we will still loose in the long run, because the majority of the Palestinians are Moslems, and there is no future with the Moslems for the Armenians.

America is a wonderful country. The oportunities are limitless. You just have to be driven and take advantage of those oportunities. If the jews have influence, it is because they dedicated their lives and careers to government work and have gravitated to positions of power and influence. It was not allways so. WWII experience woke them up. Before that, the Jews stayed out of the limelight and gravitated to Commercial ventures; sort of like us. There is hope. The Legal apprenticeship program is just starting to pay off. There are a few Armenian politicians allready, far more than justified by our numbers. There are other more numerous ethnic groups who do not have as much representation as we do. Vietnamese, Albanian, Arabs are perfect examples. Also, we should not expect all the polititians of Armenian descent to march in locked step. They are diverse from each other as their respective constituencies. We are doing well and we could do better. We just have to encourage our chilldren to go into politics. A profession not much esteemed in our culture. One thing that Armenians have an advantage over the Jews is religion. We have a chance at the presidency. It is clear that the American people will not elect a non Cristian for the presidency.

Tufa in Armenia jas been priced at about $1.50 per square foot. Thats 12 X 12 inches. Thats 25.4mm per linear inch. An eighteen ton container should cost no more than $2000.00 to Israel.
