Dear Nastratin Actually, Palm Springs is 200 feet below sea level. The Oxigen is not the problem it's the heat. 125F in the summer, hits 95F by 10 am. When I think of Royalty, I think of Royalty in the traditional sense. Real kings, with real power that inspire people and nations to greateness or disaster. You must be refferring to Spain and Bulgaria. I really don't know what to think about that. The Spanish monarchy came to power by a decree established by Franco. However he turned out good for the Spanish people. I suppose, Franco knew his people better than anyone realized. Only a strong leader could keep the country together. The Basks, the Catalans, the Communists, the Phalangists, the church; all pulling in differenc directions. As to the Bulgarian's electing the heir to the throne, well my guess is that the voters had to choose between the Communists, the various Pinco Social this and that. They just opted for something really different. Well the jury is still out on that. Ican't think of any other examples, can you. We have been too long without a king. It's just not part of our tradition anymore. I suppose the Surpazan is kind of a elected nobility. Well, run with it.

dear Nastratin. Iwas feeling a little dejected by the decision. Don't worry, I'm not refferring to myself or anyone I know. But we both know that aspirations denied breeds fanaticism, and the next step is... The Palestinins are a perfect example. What turned a miled mannered people who helped wretched Armenian refugees and took surviving chilldren in at a peril to themselves into monsters who shoot up school busses? It's not genetic drift.

One has to live in the deep south for a few years to understand the southerners. Don't underestimate him. By the way guys. Southerners are not all Cowboys, and Cowboys are not all Southerners. The accent you hear is a slight Texan drawl. Southerners have a self deprecating way about them. Pride is a major sin amoung Baptists and the Southern Baptists reign throughout the South. I might have acquired some of those traits living among them. They are very powerful in government, in the Armed forces and aside from the Jews they are very influential in American foreign policy. We have not been successful in American foregn policy in equal measure that we have not cultivated relations with them. Atlanta, Georgia sports an Armenian population of several hundred and politically, we do well in Atlanta. Unfortunately the South is very large geografically, and it has not been a favored place for Armenian settlers. Turks have been settling in the South. All the Bosnian refugees have been setling there too.

Royalty allways initially establishes itself by extraordinary deeds. No one just gives it to you. Unfortunately, royal heirs do not allways measure up to the founders of their dynasties. You want to be a King? Go and liberate Naxichevan with a band of followers and someone will crown you King of that country. Good luck.

I don't have any problems with living among Turks and Kurds. I don't want to live there as a second class cityzen. You all have seen my more agitated side at times, ang even called me a lunatic. However, I forgive you all for missreading my "total person". It's not important. With a united Turkey and Armenia within a United Europe with guarantees of civil rights is a look forward. All other issues become moot. I have read concerns that the Armenians would multiply and out number Turks eventually and take over. Seriously, look at the numbers. Sixty million turks, with a birthrate five times higher than that of all of the worlds six million Armenians is ludricous. Someone help me here. How many thousands of years would take for us to reach even numbers? Pure paranoya. The money issue? Did it breack the Germans who were on their knees after the war to repay the Jews? I'm so tired of this banter!! But I won't give it up untill I receive justice. -
Everytime justice is denied to a grieved party another terrorist is born. I think the Turks lost more in that decision than we did.

User defined Eh? What the hell is that. I understood as much of your kind , attempt to explain it to me, as others understood om my dissertation about Quarrying methods. I did download something before, it now takes spake on my desktop and does nothing for me. I shouldn't have to go through any agony to read an Armenian news release.

One million Romanians wer placed into boxcars and sent to Siberia after the second warld war. The KGB basically decided that there had to be about a million anticommunists in Romania so their lackeys had to come up with a million bodies. First they arrested all the former military officers and their families. Than all the wealthy peasants. Than anyone that might have been related to any nobility no matter how removed. Then the Clergy. When they ran out of people, than they simply arrested anyone who was denounced by anyone. No proof required. These Communists were generally the dregs of society. None were educated to any extent. In those days, people placed pictures of Stalin where previously Icons had been. We were taught at school to call him Daddy Stalin. Terror ran rampant. You did not dare say good day to your neighbor because he might interpret it as a linckage to some international event. As an amulet, people named their chilldren after some Socialist personality or event to frighten away the evil doers. Much like turkish Armenians giving their children turkish names.

Could you elaborate as to why the return of the lands refferred to in the Treaty of Sevres is against Armenian interests? -
Reffering to names in the Communist and internationalist vein. You need to remember how terribly dangerous the times were during Stalinism. People dissapeared simply because of their name. The lower dregs of society that worked for the NKVD for lack of real suspects would arrest people for such reasons as their Christian names, or distant famous relatives. These "low brow" elements were often afraid to arrest someone for just as innoccuous reasons as the person having a Soviet name, In those days, everyone lived in terror. Victims and victimizers. No one wanted to place his signature on a death warrant for a person with a name such as Lenin, Stalin, or Sovietakan. Names have allways been powerful omulettes agaisnt evil, danger or sikness. Some of our grandparents may not have been rocket scientists, but they were very adept at survival.

I was surfing the Hye forum some time back and I ran accross a lenghty article quoting an Egiptian newpaper that categorically pointed to Azerbaijian as a major training center for Ben Laden's terorists. In a newspaper (Asbarez) the Armenian Official news agency named several villages north of Karabagh that had been converted to Chechen terrorist training grounds. The former Armenian villages, previously emptied of their Armenian population had been resettled by Chechens. We need to get more documentation and uncover Azerbaijians role in the international terrorist network. I have two documentaries, Karabagh's wounds I & II. In a segment, they claim that several hundred Afghani fighters were fighting with the Azery army. Stacks of ID's and personnal letters belonging to Afghani fighters were shown. These had been dead or captured fighters. And that was nearly ten years ago. The American people need to know. if anyone can help me find that article, I will submit it to the authorities and the news agencies.

By the way, the Armenians are not the only ones with claims to Cilicia. France has claims by way of the Lusignan Dynasty. Syria claims part of it too.

Aurguplu I kind of see the reasoning in your logic that Greece is probably Democratic today because the Generals messed up. From their point of view though, a considerable part of turkey had beed theirs, and they consider Cyprus as an ancient Greek Island. Many powers held Cyprus, including the Armenians, but everyone accepts Cyprus as a Greek island. Your history lack somewhat when it comes to the Germans. We know exactly when they arrived in Europe. We know the name of the Germanic leader that led them, and this may surprise you greately, but they asked for permission to cross into then Roman territory and obtained it. They did not massacre the local Celtic population but absorbet it due to their numbers. (Just history no hidden implications) You commented on my last name and others and that they sound Turkish. You are right. Actually, there is a school of thought that subscribes to the opinion that the Armenian population of turkey was so far assimilated that aside from religion they were turks. That is certainly true of my family. My Grandfather did not speak a word of Armenian and was serving in the turkish army at the start of the massacres. There is a book about Armenians in the service of the Ottoman Empire that speaks volumes of the sevice performed for our mutual homeland. The problem had been corruption and lack of equality under the law. Corrupt politicians used Islam as a pretext to humiliate and overtax, and opress the christian population for their own profit. If and when Armenians complained, they used the means at their disposal to cruelly punish. If the turks would have lightened up a bit, or respected the constitution in force, There would have been no discontent. Having said that (i'm going to be in trouble with my fellow Armenians over this)some historians claim that the genocyde reawakened the Armenian spirit in its Ottoman Cristian minority. Please, no more of the Armenians rebelled therefore we punished them. Because there is the fact of the 750,000 Assyrian Cristians that were massacred too. What did they do? They have not been very vociforous about it because so few of them survived that their viability as a people is in doubt. You are right, we are ethnically more alike then different. You could probably say that we are one people divided by religion. As religion becomes more of a personal thing than a state thing, than what is left? I have to compliment Attaturk in his opinion that religion was the enemy of his peoples advancement and therefore tried to suppress it. He gave turkey a good foundation but you failed in equal measure that you departed from his principles. The best thing about America is it's constitution. So the Argentinians copied it verbatum. But they could not leave it alone, so they started to tweak it. Now Argentina is like any other Banana Republic. Follow the thought? You need to look at the founder and the foundation of your republic and do away with all the self serving changes that ruined it. It's not too late. Ten years before the fall of Communism someone predicted that the information revolution was going to bring down the Iron Courtain. When I heard that prediction I agreed with it. It later came through. I contend that as your population's economic status improves, to a point where every turkish family will have access to television or the internet, your society will change so drastically that you won't recognize it. I look forward to that day. -
Warring on Serbia was a big mistake. A lot if not most people were against it. However, we thought we could curry favor with the Saudi's for it. I don't think we will do that again.

So I am a dreamer. Is dreaming so dangerous to you as to need to dismiss and marginalize me. Your collection of migratory bands that numbered 100,000 and no more succeeded into conquering all of Anatolia and most of the middle east. Were they not dreamers? I'm sure that the early Armenians looked at those wretched shepperds and scoffed at the idea of the turks coming to lord over them. You can find a source of pride in that. So I would not discount dreamers.

US AMBASSADOR SAYS GENOCIDE RATHER A SPIRITUAL PROBL EM BUT
edward demian replied to MosJan's topic in Genocide
I take issue with those who say the Armenians are not native to Anatolia. First of all we are "Hyes" from the Country of Hayassa. Yes an Indo European (Aryan) tribe of Armens (Probably of Celtic Origin) invaded and conquered the Hittite Confederation to which the Hayasa belonged, but every Armenian school child knows that we call ourselves Hayes, and our land Hayastan. We use the word Armenian so the non Armenians will know who we are talking about. When the Assyrians first moved nothward and came in contact with the Hayasa, the Armenians were still lording over the Hayasa and had not as yet been absorbed. Eventually, because of their numerical inferiority, they were absorbed into the larger Hayasa population. Of course, the turks being selfconscious about their reacent arrival on the scene, want to cast doubt about our origin, so as to not diminish their right to the real estate. My personal opinion is that if we join the EU borders will dissapear and you will loose the ability to persecute or control anyone. Freedoms of every kind will prevail and proselithism will destroy both your and my culture. We will probably all be Mormons or Pentecostals in a couple hundred years. All that holds your society together now is the fascist military regime. Once gone, there won't be any problem. You seem preocupied with loosing territory. I am not interested in a bloody confrontation with you over real estate. In a future United Europe there will be no borders. What we Armenians are saying is. We have a right to come and go as we please, we have a right to our history and hystorical monuments as much as you. As far as the American Indian analogy. The Native Americans have reservations which are sovereign territories, and they have a choice of living on or off the reservation. I'll take that same deal. It doesn't even have to be that good. An appology, and equal rights seems a good place to start. -
Perhaps I should change mymoniker to lunatic. I think that you folks have missed much of what I said and remember only my reactions to certain comments. One certainty is that hystory is constantly in a state of change. Hodgea missquotes me. I clearly said "all we have to do is wait". You misscalculate power. Power does not come from the end of the gun only. money is power. Guns don't function wthout bullets and bullets costs money. It seems most of the Turks want us to voluntarily give up our land claims before anything. That won't happen. Ter Petrossian contemplated doing that and he was convinced very quickly to step down. If I was a Turk with the decicion power, I would call the Armenian bluff and say: OK, we are sorry, come back and be loyal cityzens. Very few people will come. As for monetary reparations, even if Turkey paid all that it was asked to do, it would still be just paper. Paper for land and blood. All most Armenians want to do is be recognized as the victims so we can put this to rest. And we are tired with this issue. Personnally, I'm spending more time on this issue than I do running my two businesses. This forum is likd drug addiction. Also, because of the law training I've had in my early ears, I make a large distinction between legal rights and the physical implementation of those rights, or the willigness to act upon those rights. Turkey could guide it's own destiny by acting on it's own rather than becarried away by world events. Even this NY incident has changed everything. Don't make the mistake of missjudging the American public opinion. Right now, the muslim world is in trouble. To us, and I am American before Armenian, you are all the same. It is not as you like it to be. The average Americans see Islam as the enemy not just a few missguided elements. America has gone to war against Islam twice in it's short history. The Barbary Pirate war, and the Morro war.

Armenian pie - A love story by the Forum members
edward demian replied to elovna's topic in Love and Romance
Thorny Rose. In getting to know Armenian men, you will find that they are loved and love their families very much. The need to survive has been genetically imprinted in us. It is a form of natural selection. To stay Armenian over 1200 years of Muslim domination was like a natural selection process. The weak ones just could not survive. To give you anexample. You may have heard of the Royal perrogative called "La Prima Nocte". This pracice existed in Keltic Law, Enlish Law, etc. Simply stated, The king can have the perogative of devirginizing your wife on your first wedding night. Shocking? Well, it was not practiced that much. It was not a popular thing with the commoners. In the Ottoman turkey, the same law existed. The turks were not concerned with its popularity. The law applied not only to the Sultan, but to every minor petty prince or regional strong man. Most Armenians resorted to hiding their daughters, or raising them to act and dress like boys. But it gets better. This same law had a special cruel twist when applied to the Armenians. If a child was born of the union, than it was assumed that the child belonged to the Prince who did the deed. And as such the child had to be brought up muslim. And as such muslim chilldren inherited all the family inheritance. Which meant dispossetion of the whole family. Since the law stipulated that it took 3 christian witnesses to equal one Muslim witness, it was very difficult to win in court. How can you produce three witnesses to the act of matrimonial unity? Who does it in front of three witnesses on their first wedding night? Solution, most families opted to kill their first born child in order to secure the family possessions. So maybie you can understand some of the hatred that Armenians harbor towards their turkish tormentors. So marriage became more than just a love match, it was a meticulously planned family decition, more like a conspiracy against the *****s, and the Bey, or Effendi's or whatever. All of them non Armenian and Muslim. So now, we may have forgotten why, but we have remained faithful to family opinion. Going against that and following your heart as I have done, caused me severe pain in life, culminating in divorce, disfunctional behaviour and eventually disinherritance. Welcome to Armenian bliss. -

Dear Nastratin I think that I reached you with my heartfelt statement. If in my lifetime I succeed in reaching and tugging the heartstring of just a few turkish people, than I will feel that I have not lived in vain. -

Cilicia was traded for another piece of land with the Bizantines long before the turks came on the scene. The measuring stick in international law as to apriori right between two different populations viing for the same territory is :1000 years. The Armenians can prove 1000 years of uninterupted posession of any teritory they lived in, and more specifically in Cilicia. You claim to have the strongest military, most numerous population etc. We have heard that argument before. Many times. We have heard that from the Hittites, the Babilonians, the Assyrians, the Medians, the Persians, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Mongols, the Russians and now the turks. Everyone of these huge empires were strong in their own right and became that way through their own prowess and efforts. Turkey has gotten strong through the charity of the western world. You are the Hare- Khrishnas of the middle east. Chant Communism and the coins kept dropping in your outstretched palm. The reason you want to join the EU is for the welfare benefits. The game is over. Oh, you may get a few more miles out of the Secular Muslim power card, but that game is over. And don't kid us about you being a Democracy. Your turkey is a secular fascist government.Ask any turk or Kurd. Muslim fanaticism is knocking at your door, and the enemy is you. All we have to do is wait and the lands and everything else will fall in our hands. It will be given to us by those who will trust us more than you. History and time are our our friends and allies.
